Long Work Days and Friends Keeping Me Sane

February 1, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

First Work Lunch Meeting

When I told myself I wouldn’t worry about posting everyday, I never imagined I’d go so many days without posting. Work has taken a toll on me. I’ve been doing almost 15 hour work days this week. Luckily, they feed us once in a while. And having some great people on the team really helps.

Texas T Tavern with Erin and Christopher

Yesterday was Erin’s birthday and she didn’t get a break. Meetings upon meetings with frustrating people so I asked if she wanted to get a drink afterward. We left the office at 7 pm and met up at Texas T Tavern with Christopher, another new hire. It was nice getting a chance to get to know him outside of work and so far, he seems like a pretty cool dude. They keep me sane at work among a couple others. I hope it never changes.

Cravin Cajun Crawfish Season!

Today at work, my boss didn’t even bat an eyelash when I told her I was going to leave a little after noon. I took it a chance to have some alone time. I noticed a lot of people have been eating crawfish so I went to my favourite spot and enjoyed one of my favourite meals.

Snooze with Rizzo

I went home afterward and spent some quality time with Rizzo. It’s been a while since I was able to just relax with him. He’s been ignored for weeks now and I usually come home, shower, eat dinner, and sleep. Poor baby needs a haircut as well.

JJ in the Baking Drawer

After a nice nap, I headed over to Mallory’s. JJ is so grown that he can get into things himself and he can comprehend what you’re saying. He’s starting to like me more so yay!

Mallory's Nintendo Switch

Mallory went and bought the Nintendo Switch today and I was so honoured I was able to unbox it with her! This Mario Party has some similiarties but overall, I wouldn’t mind playing this one as it is SO much easier due to the motion sensing and the likes. Mario Kart has always been my least favourite but now that I understand how to throw stuff, and with guidance from John, I was able to be first in a few rounds, something I never accomplished growing up.

I am going to splurge on one as well as a present to myself celebrating my new job and working so hard all month. Question is, what games should I buy? What colors should I get? Choices, choices.

Catch Up with Rose

Dimassi's with Rose

Having a Friday off really does help in having a more relaxing weekend. I was able to tackle more of my errands Friday and enjoy doing a whole lot of nothing during the weekend.

I met up with Rose today for dinner at Dimassi’s to catch up. I haven’t had Meditteranean in a long while and it’s obviously not the best but it was close enough to satisfy my taste buds.

Afterward, we headed back to her house to hang out with her daughters. I cannot believe I’ve known her for 12 years come May! And to watch her daughters grow up has been unbelievable too. The youngest one already has a mind of her own and it’s wonderful to watch. Soon enough they won’t care to hang out with me and have their own lives. Sigh … stop growing up.

One of the greatest things I took from seeing Rose was hearing that my old boss, Andrew, was very excited and happy for me in finding a permanent position at the company and all the praise he gave about how wonderful I am. He even asked if I went back to get my masters since Engineering Tech isn’t easy. I can sleep easy knowing my old boss believes in me even though we don’t keep in touch.

Lazy Sundays with Rizzo

January 20, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Rizzo Stares

Today has been such a lazy day. I slept in due to sleeping SO late last night and I love that Rizzo never complains to get up because he needs to pee or eat. I know he’s starting to look scraggly. He’ll get a haircut soon!

I spent a while last night and today working, catching up on everything. Tomorrow will officially be my first day and the other new hire who started in December will be back from his vacation. He is on the same boat as me. Though we will be doing different things, we both did not get enough time with our predecessor.

Luckily I was able to watch a few Hong Kong drama episodes today. I hope work settles down a bit to where I get to leave at a reasonable time and be able to do things after work like I used to. I’m also thinking of waking up early and working out. Does anyone want to be my workout partner? I wish my friends live closer. Sigh …

Fifteen Years of Friendship

January 19, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Thai Cottage with Mum

Last night I had a mother-daughter date night. We went to Thai Cottage for dinner then Sprouts to buy groceries. It’s been a while since it was just the two of us so it was nice getting that time together.

When I got home, I had a VERY long video chat with Noah. It’s funny how we can go from talking about life to us both just looking at cute Panda and Polar Bear comics and sending them to one another. Since we both broke up with someone recently we have been leaning on one another so it’s nice to have a friend in that aspect.

Chuck E. Cheese with Mallory, JJ, and John

This morning I met Mallory, JJ, and John at Chuck E. Cheese. We had our favourite pizzas. JJ is not afraid of riding the rides anymore and he even reached out to hold my hand and asked me for help. I felt so loved! I had a few good minutes of having JJ in my custody while his parents competed with one another on basketball. It was a great time.

Throwback of Mallory and Mellie Dee

We went back to their house and I just relaxed with Mallory talking and watching telly. The bottom right picture popped up on Mallory’s Timehop so I decided to make a collage of a couple pictures I found in my phone. Top picture was almost three years ago, bottom left was almost twelve years ago, and the bottom right was six years ago. It’ll be fifteen years of friendship come August. It’s crazy how time flies. We both asked how we could get back to our skinny selves. Sigh ...

I’m currently working overtime trying to catch up on everything but mostly to rewrite notes. Why am I working so hard already? Help me. I need to get out more.

Work Vent

January 16, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Today was the first day without the lady I was replacing. She was still able to assist on some things through messaging but it was HARD. So hard that my boss had to tell us we should all leave at 6:30 pm at the latest. Luckily, Erin has been super helpful and when she started explaining one of the lady’s workflows to me (the lady never got to it) I questioned some things to where we giggled forever because it didn’t make sense. I love being back and working with Erin because we work through the pain with laughter and that makes everything so much easier.

Erin kept having to tell me to breathe. She can sense my aura and while I’m trying hard to catch up on everything, as days go by, I find more and more missing gaps. I have just started and some people trust me more than others that have worked there for a while. It’s hard trying to keep your reputation while you’re sinking. Fingers crossed the dust settles soon.

I had lunch with Monica and we caught up about our families, our jobs, and our significant others or in my case, lack of. Our one hour lunch became two and it was just SO freaking easy to talk to her. It was our first time having one on one with each other after ALL these years and I really treasured it. Added bonus was getting away from the desk.

I am shocked to realized I haven’t watched telly (Netflix and Chinese Drama) in almost two weeks. It’s funny how I thought I’d have more time moving to this job since it’s closer to home and it’s definitely not the case. Someone save me!
