2019 Daniel & Jade’s Crawfish Boil

March 25, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2019 | Daniel and Jade's Crawfish Boil

Daniel and Jade had their annual crawfish boil and I finally got to go! Jade did a great job flavouring it Cajun style since they’re both from Louisiana. I thought it was adorable that both boys asked for my validation. Apparently people told them I was a master at crawfish and if I signed off on it then they are golden.

It was mostly old team members and now that we are kind of spread out throughout campus it’s nice to see them outside of work and to talk about non-work related things. We talked about game night in the near future which sounds fun.

A bunch of us decided to meet up online to race on Mario Kart with our Switches and after a bunch of races I’ve come to the conclusion that I am not that great and the more I play the worse I get.

Work has still been hours on hours. I do miss being a contractor because I’d be banking with all this overtime. I’m hoping all the hours I’m putting in will make a difference for my future. I’m currently learning a lot since this position is outside my scope and it’s been a tough journey but as my mentor says, “Take it one day at a time because at the end everything will work out.”

Last Night’s Shenanigans

March 22, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

The Heights Day and Night

It’s crazy how a few hours can change how things look and the view from The Heights is a gorgeous one. The moon was big and bright last night. The moon will forever remind me of him and his love for the universe.

Porch Swing Pub with Erin, Juhi, Christopher

Christopher made a random decision to ask Erin, Juhi, and I out to grab drinks after mentoring some high school kids. These kids are so amazing and I am lucky to be able give back.

We went to The Porch Swing Pub afterward since it was near Erin’s and we shared a lot of laughter and tears. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. These past few months I have learned a lot and it has opened my eyes to so many new things I’ve always been afraid to admit.

One of them having to do with alcohol. I’m not a drinker and can go months without a drop but I’ve realized, though I do love beer, liquor is better for my stomach issues (and insomnia) and I am loving old fashioned. Only downside is the money aspect.

Tomorrow is crawfish time and I am ready!

2019 Valentine’s Week

February 17, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Monday, February 11th

2019 King Cake

Erin and I’s King Cake pieces after a stressful Monday.

I forgot to save my picture but I went to Mallory’s after work and we had wine and ate heart shaped ravioli with pesto. It was much needed after a crazy-like weekend of mixed emotions.

Tuesday, February 12th

Walking Trail at Work

Christopher, Erin and I blocked off the day and worked in a huddle room. We took a walk at work’s walking trail and it was actually pretty nice. I just wished they grew more trees because it’s very bare.

2019 Girl Scout Cookie Haul

I went and picked up my Girl Scout cookies as well. I’m not sure what I’m doing with them yet. I wish they sold smaller boxes as I can never finish them and get sick of them fairly quickly.

Wednesday, February 13th

Late Night Work Views

Erin and I worked late but I didn’t mind much since we did get what we set out to do complete. Plus having this view is pretty nice.

400GB SD Card for Switch

I came home to a Valentine’s Day present to myself. A 400 GB SD card for my Nintendo Switch. I figure I will download games that are crazy cheap than the physical copies or if I already know I would love it and play it a lot. I ventured to the store and downloaded Diablo III (on sale!!!) and Puyo Puyo Tetris. I’ve been playing non-stop and in love.

2019 Valentine's Day Treats

This is why people are usually heavier in the corporate world. This isn’t even half of it! Bigger corporations do have people that are more into the holidays which is nice when you need a pick me up.

2019 Valentine's Day Crawfish with Erin and Christopher | Cravin' Cajun | Katy, Texas

Christopher, Erin, and I went on a crawfish dinner at my favourite location, Cravin’ Cajun! I even ordered some to go for my family.

I put this picture up on Instagram and a lot of people asked who I was on a date with. Fail times 1000. But I’m starting to not care about what others think because those who cared would ask, right?

Friday, February 15th

Car on Fire at Work Garage

In the morning, I got a jarring text from Christopher that a car in the work parking garage was on fire! He didn’t have any details so I was worried it was mine. Luckily we were able to move our cars to a different garage after a few hours later. We still haven’t heard what had happened but it’s scary nonetheless.

Saturday, February 16th

2019 Katy Rodeo Parade

I woke up bright and early, headed over to Mallory’s. We, along with John and JJ, and met up with Madison and her three girls to watch the Katy Rodeo Parade. It was freezing cold, the girls were all complaining but when the people starting throwing candy, they soon forgot all about it. Afterward, we picked up Chickfila and I spent a good few hours with Mallory playing Nintendo Switch.

Buffalo Wild Wings with Ed and Henry

I went home, took a nap, and headed to Ed’s. He was spending the weekend at his parents so that meant the thirty minute drive to his place turned out to be a nine minute drive to his parents. He was dog-sitting Henry and we ordered Buffalo Wild Wings while catching up and mostly talking about boys and girls and watching Iron Chef re-runs.

This whole week has been filled with some of my favourite people which was much needed. I’m hoping work dies down and I can get back to the swing of things like I used to.

The whole reading twelve books this year feels shot as I’ve read none. But today I was able to work out so I feel accomplished enough for now.

I hope everyone’s week/weekend was as eventful as mine.

2019 Chinese New Year & Nintendo Switch

February 7, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2019 Chinese New Year at Work

On Tuesday, the Asian organization at work was having a get together with food. It’s only natural Erin, Christopher and I made a stop. We didn’t eat with everyone and instead went outside to eat by ourselves.

2019 Chinese New Year at Work | Fortune Cookie

I got the most legit fortune ever because I’m already bogged down by projects and for a bigger project to show up is going to be killer. I wonder what it’ll be.

2019 Chinese New Year Dinner

I went home early for the first time and got home by six! I am in love with the meal Dad put together. The abalone is my favourite!

Huddle Room Work Day

Today, Erin, Christopher and I went into a huddle room and worked on our project while doing our own work in between and leaving for meetings when needed. It’s nice to get away from the crazy and have time to get our work done, with laughter of course!

Nintendo Switch

So, remember my fortune? Chill while you can? Well, I went and got the Nintendo Switch for myself. I picked up Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Party, and Mario Kart 8. The last two I am okay with but since everyone seems to have it, I figure it’ll be great to play with them online. I hope to add Diablo and Super Mario Bros U Deluxe to the mix one day. Games are so expensive so when I saw that these were $45, I jumped on them. Thanks, sign-on bonus!

Off to test it all out with June!
