2019 Valentine’s Week

2019 King Cake

Erin and I’s King Cake pieces after a stressful Monday.

I forgot to save my picture but I went to Mallory’s after work and we had wine and ate heart shaped ravioli with pesto. It was much needed after a crazy-like weekend of mixed emotions.

Tuesday, February 12th

Walking Trail at Work

Christopher, Erin and I blocked off the day and worked in a huddle room. We took a walk at work’s walking trail and it was actually pretty nice. I just wished they grew more trees because it’s very bare.

2019 Girl Scout Cookie Haul

I went and picked up my Girl Scout cookies as well. I’m not sure what I’m doing with them yet. I wish they sold smaller boxes as I can never finish them and get sick of them fairly quickly.

Wednesday, February 13th

Late Night Work Views

Erin and I worked late but I didn’t mind much since we did get what we set out to do complete. Plus having this view is pretty nice.

400GB SD Card for Switch

I came home to a Valentine’s Day present to myself. A 400 GB SD card for my Nintendo Switch. I figure I will download games that are crazy cheap than the physical copies or if I already know I would love it and play it a lot. I ventured to the store and downloaded Diablo III (on sale!!!) and Puyo Puyo Tetris. I’ve been playing non-stop and in love.

2019 Valentine's Day Treats

This is why people are usually heavier in the corporate world. This isn’t even half of it! Bigger corporations do have people that are more into the holidays which is nice when you need a pick me up.

2019 Valentine's Day Crawfish with Erin and Christopher | Cravin' Cajun | Katy, Texas

Christopher, Erin, and I went on a crawfish dinner at my favourite location, Cravin’ Cajun! I even ordered some to go for my family.

I put this picture up on Instagram and a lot of people asked who I was on a date with. Fail times 1000. But I’m starting to not care about what others think because those who cared would ask, right?

Friday, February 15th

Car on Fire at Work Garage

In the morning, I got a jarring text from Christopher that a car in the work parking garage was on fire! He didn’t have any details so I was worried it was mine. Luckily we were able to move our cars to a different garage after a few hours later. We still haven’t heard what had happened but it’s scary nonetheless.

2019 Katy Rodeo Parade

I woke up bright and early, headed over to Mallory’s. We, along with John and JJ, and met up with Madison and her three girls to watch the Katy Rodeo Parade. It was freezing cold, the girls were all complaining but when the people starting throwing candy, they soon forgot all about it. Afterward, we picked up Chickfila and I spent a good few hours with Mallory playing Nintendo Switch.

Buffalo Wild Wings with Ed and Henry

I went home, took a nap, and headed to Ed’s. He was spending the weekend at his parents so that meant the thirty minute drive to his place turned out to be a nine minute drive to his parents. He was dog-sitting Henry and we ordered Buffalo Wild Wings while catching up and mostly talking about boys and girls and watching Iron Chef re-runs.

This whole week has been filled with some of my favourite people which was much needed. I’m hoping work dies down and I can get back to the swing of things like I used to.

The whole reading twelve books this year feels shot as I’ve read none. But today I was able to work out so I feel accomplished enough for now.

I hope everyone’s week/weekend was as eventful as mine.

2019 Chinese New Year & Nintendo Switch

February 7, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2019 Chinese New Year at Work

On Tuesday, the Asian organization at work was having a get together with food. It’s only natural Erin, Christopher and I made a stop. We didn’t eat with everyone and instead went outside to eat by ourselves.

2019 Chinese New Year at Work | Fortune Cookie

I got the most legit fortune ever because I’m already bogged down by projects and for a bigger project to show up is going to be killer. I wonder what it’ll be.

2019 Chinese New Year Dinner

I went home early for the first time and got home by six! I am in love with the meal Dad put together. The abalone is my favourite!

Huddle Room Work Day

Today, Erin, Christopher and I went into a huddle room and worked on our project while doing our own work in between and leaving for meetings when needed. It’s nice to get away from the crazy and have time to get our work done, with laughter of course!

Nintendo Switch

So, remember my fortune? Chill while you can? Well, I went and got the Nintendo Switch for myself. I picked up Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Party, and Mario Kart 8. The last two I am okay with but since everyone seems to have it, I figure it’ll be great to play with them online. I hope to add Diablo and Super Mario Bros U Deluxe to the mix one day. Games are so expensive so when I saw that these were $45, I jumped on them. Thanks, sign-on bonus!

Off to test it all out with June!

2019 Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner

February 3, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2019 Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner

Yesterday night, our family got together along with Timothy for our Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner. We forgo the usually dishes that mean good luck and went with hot pot instead. We figure the actual day is when we’d do something like that since not everyone likes those types of foods.

2019 Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner | Sushi Game

After dinner, Sissy, BIL, Timothy, and I played a few rounds of Sushi Go. One of the easiest games because Timothy and I have been working so much we didn’t want to use our brains.

2019 Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner | The Grizzled

Funny enough we played The Grizzled right afterward, a game you need to use your head for. Luckily it’s a cooperative game (as the box says) so it made it easier. Although it’s hard to win, this is still one of Sissy and I’s favourite game.

Los Balitos Breakfast | Texas Burrito

This morning, Sissy and BIL picked up breakfast from Los Balito’s and Timothy came over to play The Grizzled again because he didn’t like that we didn’t win any rounds after four rounds! We won on our second today so we felt accomplished.

It’s been a weekend of fun and working from home. There’s still so much to do and I feel like I’m drowning but I know there’ll be a light at the end of the tunnel. Things will get easier.

Also, who can agree that was the lamest Superbowl ever? The game and the half time show.

Long Work Days and Friends Keeping Me Sane

February 1, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

First Work Lunch Meeting

When I told myself I wouldn’t worry about posting everyday, I never imagined I’d go so many days without posting. Work has taken a toll on me. I’ve been doing almost 15 hour work days this week. Luckily, they feed us once in a while. And having some great people on the team really helps.

Texas T Tavern with Erin and Christopher

Yesterday was Erin’s birthday and she didn’t get a break. Meetings upon meetings with frustrating people so I asked if she wanted to get a drink afterward. We left the office at 7 pm and met up at Texas T Tavern with Christopher, another new hire. It was nice getting a chance to get to know him outside of work and so far, he seems like a pretty cool dude. They keep me sane at work among a couple others. I hope it never changes.

Cravin Cajun Crawfish Season!

Today at work, my boss didn’t even bat an eyelash when I told her I was going to leave a little after noon. I took it a chance to have some alone time. I noticed a lot of people have been eating crawfish so I went to my favourite spot and enjoyed one of my favourite meals.

Snooze with Rizzo

I went home afterward and spent some quality time with Rizzo. It’s been a while since I was able to just relax with him. He’s been ignored for weeks now and I usually come home, shower, eat dinner, and sleep. Poor baby needs a haircut as well.

JJ in the Baking Drawer

After a nice nap, I headed over to Mallory’s. JJ is so grown that he can get into things himself and he can comprehend what you’re saying. He’s starting to like me more so yay!

Mallory's Nintendo Switch

Mallory went and bought the Nintendo Switch today and I was so honoured I was able to unbox it with her! This Mario Party has some similiarties but overall, I wouldn’t mind playing this one as it is SO much easier due to the motion sensing and the likes. Mario Kart has always been my least favourite but now that I understand how to throw stuff, and with guidance from John, I was able to be first in a few rounds, something I never accomplished growing up.

I am going to splurge on one as well as a present to myself celebrating my new job and working so hard all month. Question is, what games should I buy? What colors should I get? Choices, choices.

Catch Up with Rose

January 27, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Dimassi's with Rose

Having a Friday off really does help in having a more relaxing weekend. I was able to tackle more of my errands Friday and enjoy doing a whole lot of nothing during the weekend.

I met up with Rose today for dinner at Dimassi’s to catch up. I haven’t had Meditteranean in a long while and it’s obviously not the best but it was close enough to satisfy my taste buds.

Afterward, we headed back to her house to hang out with her daughters. I cannot believe I’ve known her for 12 years come May! And to watch her daughters grow up has been unbelievable too. The youngest one already has a mind of her own and it’s wonderful to watch. Soon enough they won’t care to hang out with me and have their own lives. Sigh … stop growing up.

One of the greatest things I took from seeing Rose was hearing that my old boss, Andrew, was very excited and happy for me in finding a permanent position at the company and all the praise he gave about how wonderful I am. He even asked if I went back to get my masters since Engineering Tech isn’t easy. I can sleep easy knowing my old boss believes in me even though we don’t keep in touch.
