How Are You Related To Your Cousin’s Kid?

August 13, 2012 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

BURNING CALORIES

I’m not sure if I mentioned this but Sissy brought up me playing the guitar and singing a song at their wedding. I’m not sure if she’s joking or not but it was pretty nice for her to say that. Then Mum and I went all crazy looking up songs. Let’s just say, my fingers have been back to it’s usual callus state. Mmm sounds delicious, right? What boy would want to hold my hand now?

Joking or not, one of my usual passtime is playing the guitar and singing but I haven’t done much of that lately. So I’m pretty sure I burned A LOT of calories doing so today. I’ve got down “Remind Me” by Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood and I would like to think I sound good. Both boy and girl part. But of course, you always think you sound better than you really do …

POP PILATES

I just did my FIRST EVER POP Pilates by Cassey Ho. (Check her out at Blogilates!) And I’m in love. I’ve always loved Pilates when I first did it in Junior High. My then Coach just had a baby and wanted to get rid of her excess weight so she made all of us do it with her. It’s so simple and not so bad for those with injuries.

But POP Pilates is so different compared to the regular Pilates. This one is more upbeat, at least this one that I did today. And not good if someone has injuries or is prone to injuries. Let’s just say work is going to be tiring because I am certain I will not be able to walk or lift my fingers and my job involves a computer and typing all day. Joy! At least I don’t have to walk much.

I’m happy I played the guitar before this … burn, baby, burn.

DEBATE AT WORK

Speaking of work we had a big debate and if you’d like, you can share your answer.

I tweeted about it:

And here’s two replies I saved out of a few:

Rachael from Happy Healthy Run and one of my friends.

The majority of people at work says nephew/niece while some said second cousin. And we’ve come to a conclusion, everyone other than THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA says that when your cousin has a kid, they are your second cousins while everyone else in the entire world says it’s your nephew/niece. Funny, huh? Guess it’s a cultural thing.

Or maybe the Americans are just plain wrong. Smile with tongue out Oh and the whole cousin once removed stuff is just confusing. And a little depressing if you ask me. It makes it sound like they are strangers or you don’t like them.

It was a fun debate to ease into the work week which luckily is only 4 days total for me!

What do you think? Is your cousin’s kid your second cousin or your nephew/niece?

Work = Lazy Days

August 7, 2012 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

Work is getting a little … tiring. I guess because I’m starting up with the schedule of lesser sleep than usual. Eep! But I’m very grateful to have a job. I hope I get use to this whole waking 9 hrs of work per day type deal or else I’m going to be crashing during the weekend.

Work is pretty great. I get every other Friday off. So that means 3 day weekends! Sometimes it could be more if a national holiday comes through or whatever. I am hoping I can visit SA on one of those weekends. Fingers crossed. I hope FTK has something going on that weekend or something. It would give me an excuse to visit and see everyone. Winking smile

I am hoping I have time this weekend to write out a fitness plan. I am in need of it badly. Apparently I lost a few pounds when I was in Hong Kong and now I’m struggling to have it kept off. All I do is wake up, walk to my car, drive to work, sit in my chair for almost 9 hours give or take a good 10 minutes when I walk to the restroom or heat up my lunch, then drive back home, and sit. I am actually quite sad that I am too tired to workout. Why am I even tired? I don’t even move at all! So I’m giving my body a week’s notice to get use to the new schedule because this isn’t going to cut it!

Any tips on how to stay active/healthy while working?

Much appreciated.

Proud Owner of a Foam Roller

August 1, 2012 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

Want to hear a funny story? No? Well tooooooo bad.

An old friend of mine who I haven’t really talked to since three years ago (?) just caught up a little on Facebook. Oh the joys of social media. And she told me she has a blog and all that other jazz. Surprise! ME TOO! You didn’t know that huh? Anyway, I told her I had one too but that I wasn’t ready to share. And she understood but will be willing to read it once I was comfortable. Thanks, Dhvani. I’ll keep that in mind! Smile

Then I did what any normal person would do … I Google’d myself with keywords that connect to me. And found out I have a Blogspot. Which I started in 2009. And where I was actually funny. I guess it was easier to let my sarcasm show up in my writing more back then.

***

Anyway, Sonja and I had plans to meet up at Rudy’s for lunch. I love it because it’s only a good 10 minutes from my house. As I was driving, I got stuck in traffic. Not on the freeway or anything. On a street. Why? Because everyone was waiting at the drive through of Chic-Fil-A. Ridiculous. Get out of the damn car.

Sonja and I got to catch up for a good 2 1/2 hours. Everything from boys to school to work to family to random crap. We only see each other two times a year. But only get to catch up once a year. I’m lucky to have friendships like this.

***

After we said our goodbyes I walked around Wal-Mart. I got use to walking around after eating in Hong Kong so I’m trying to keep up with that. I don’t know how that’ll work once I start my job though.

But … I finally bought a foam roller!

It’s from Gold’s Gym the 3-in-1 Massage Roll.

  • 18” High Density Massage Roll Layer
  • 18” Low Density Massage Roll Layer
  • 18” Rolling Massage Stick
  • Instructional DVD

Hot guy not included … boo.

It’s wrapped in cellophane and as nasty as it sounds, I tried it out on my back. If it didn’t work, I was going to return it. Don’t judge me. I don’t care if it was the right form or not or if it was the right layer but my back feels better. So I’m keeping it! I’m excited to roll every part of my body so all the pain goes away and better my muscles! Hopefully this will also mean, less injuries for me. Fingers crossed!

Goodbye San Antonio

San Antonio Part III

Yesterday was my last day in San Antonio which meant it was a sad, sad day.

*The first two pictures you see are from when I was running errands with him the day before and took them. They’re pretty.

IMG_20120629_234856

Made with pans … at the Culinary Institute!

I woke up early to pack up the rest of my things and then went to Patricia’s to drop off silverware that I would never need again. Said my last goodbye to her and then went to lunch with him and his friend. We spent a good 3 hours sitting there talking about the randomest things … those always makes the best conversations. A lot of times they talked about people I didn’t even know and I didn’t mind at all. Just listening to them talk was nice. We talked a lot about marketing, advertising, and computer stuff. And I loved every second of it.

Some building … it looked like it was decorated with puffy paint. Happy colors.

After we departed, I went and packed the rest of my car. Turned my keys in. Hugged everyone, stared at the apartment complex, and drove away. I’m sad I’m not coming back in August, but I’m happy knowing that I will be back to visit and to see all these people again. I’m aiming for November since I have an excuse to go back: FTK’s Fashion Out Cancer Show. Smile Cannot wait to see what they come up with this year for that. So excited.

“You brighten up the sky.
Like a rainbow after the storm.
”

The drove back to Houston was long though. Sleeping for a total of 3 hours those past two days didn’t help. But it felt nice coming back home and knowing that I won’t have to move again … for a while.

My twin bed is now filled with 7 pillows and three blankets. And even with this heat, it feels nice to be surrounded by softness. I cannot wait for a bigger bed though.

Liliana mailed me a belated birthday card. And it made me tear up.

2012-07-01 14.35.432012-07-01 14.36.49

“I wonder whether you know how the good things you do ripple out to make things nicer for other people. I wonder whether you realize you have a gift for listening with a gentle heart when someone needs to talk. And I wonder how you do it all, day in and day out, with such grace. It’s no wonder I love having you for a friend. Happy Birthday”

I hope that it’s true. That other people see me as that because that’s not a bad reputation. I should have studied to be a physiatrist or something. So I guess if you ever need someone to talk to, I’m a good one to chose from. My email’s always open …

Sadly I didn’t get to see her in San Antonio; she wasn’t in town. But I know for a fact I’ll see her in November when I go and I. Can. Not. Wait.

I already miss them all. Now I’m back to being by my lonely self.Crying face

Workout

45 min cardio

My plan has completed. I am so thankful for that because this 3 week plan was killer! Mostly on the legs.

I cannot wait for Hong Kong. That means a lot of cardio since you walk and sweat everywhere. That only means strength training at nights. Sounds good to me.

I’ll be taking a lot of pictures of my food because well … it’s Hong Kong. That’s pretty much all you do.

I Never Want To Leave

June 29, 2012 by Mellie Dee 1 Comment

San Antonio Part II

If anyone was wondering … I haven’t seen him yet but hopefully I do before I leave and before he leaves out of the country for study abroad. I just want to give him his present. No big deal.

Jenny finally arrived … with Krypto and Pluto last night!! Ahhh … my heart skipped a beat. Love those two puppies (who aren’t puppies anymore).

IMG_20120628_202105

Then I went to Patricia and Shayna’s and we made dinner with Gary and his boyfriend Matthew! Getting to catch up with them is heaven. I’ve missed them. I also got to meet a guy named Chris tonight. Nice man. So far nothing bad to say about him. Guess my friend picked a good one! Love seeing happy people. Warms my heart.

Today I have great things going on and I cannot wait to start my day!

Workout

30 min cardio
Arm: no breaks; 5 lb. weights
     – Tricep Extensions – 30 sec
– Bicep Curls – 20 sec
– Shoulder Presses – 30 sec
– Pushups – 30 sec
Ab: 3 sets
     – Plank – 45 sec hold
– Leg Raises – 30 sec
Leg: 3 sets
     – Dumbbell Lunges – 5 lb. weights; 30 sec
– Squats – 5 lb. weights; 30 sec
– Wall Sits – 40 sec hold

I woke up at 9am … to work out. Who am I? What happened to the girl that worked out at night times? I think this is only temporary.

Not being able to go out and run is one of the hardest things here in San Antonio. Don’t get me wrong, I can. But it’s hard because you have to drive to a trail. Sorry, I’m not about to waste gas.

Just did my usual cardio of jumping jacks, run in place, etc. And then I just about died when arms, abs, and legs happened. Luckily it’s my last one for this plan. Hurray! So that kept me going. I feel it the worse in my legs. Bleugh!

After today, only one more workout and my plan is complete! And then it’s packing and off to Hong Kong! Eeep a dee doo da!

Funnies

Okay, I won’t keep you much longer. Here’s some things to look at while you wait patiently for work to end so you can go home!

Yes. Preach it sista. I understand if you want to show a little cleavage … but yeah. Seriously, stick them back in.

My people will never live this down. haha

Me to a tee. My uncle got me a Medium sized football jersey and I love it. But it fits my body but my boobage area. I have squashed boobs. Oh, hi uniboob …

With this heat we’re having in Texas, it’s necessary. Now I just need to find someone with a truck …

His hips don’t lie!

Happy Friday! Stay cool! Smile
