World Market Date

August 5, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Square Root Poke | Katy, Texas

Scruffy and I woke up in search of delicious raw goodness and landed in Square Root Poke. It’s in the new Asian area in Katy!

We shared a small poke bowl and the place has a pot of miso soup, complimentary! We drank two mini bowls worth. I’m not a super big lover of miso but this one was actually pretty tasty.

The poke bowl didn’t have enough sauce. They did say we could go back up and ask for more but there were customers and we weren’t about to stand and wait I’m line.

Gong Cha | Katy, Texas

We drove slow around the area to see what new stores were going to pop up and found Gong Cha. We shared a Taro Milk Tea with tapioca. We should have said less sugar because we were in a sugar rush after.

2018 | 217/365 | Whole Foods Date

[2018] 217/365: Whole Foods Date

We walked around World Market and Whole Foods before grabbing a chicken noodle soup and a slice of pepperoni pizza from the self-serve bar. We then pay for everything and sat down at the bar they had in the middle of the store and he ordered a beer, I got a rose and we ate our foods.

I’ve always wanted to do a Whole Foods date so I was glad we crossed it off the list. Can we have more my love?

Korean BBQ Dinner

We went back to my house where we watched Shamless and fell asleep. We woke up in time for Korean BBQ with the family before he called it a night. This boy loves Bulgogi and I love that he eats so much because he’s a small eater.

Tomorrow, it’s back to reality. Sigh … I need a vacation.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas

August 3, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

James Coney Island | Katy, Texas | Texas Chili Dog

Scruffy came over with Luna after I got off work. We decided to hit up our first Houston Restaurant Week place tonight but since our reservation was not until eight pm we decided on a light snack at James Coney Island. This is the first time that I’ve been here and I was surprisingly not as bad as I thought it be.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas

Afterwords we chilled at home for a bit before heading to The Melting Pot.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Fat Tire & Wine Flight

He started off with a flat tire while I went for a wine flight. The one flying consisted of four different wines to pair with our four courses. For the cheese, a Meiomi, Pinot Noir, California. For the salad, a Starborough, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand. For the entree, a Portillo, Malbec, Valle de Uco, Argentina. For the chocolate, a Luccio, Moscato d’ Asti, Italy.

My favourite wine was the salad wine while Scruffy enjoyed the entree one. Overall it was a great experience because I’ve never had a different one pair for every course before.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Loaded Baked Potato Cheddar

Her first entrée was the loaded baked potato cheddar cheese fondue which comes with cheddar cheese blend potatoes, garlic and wine seasoning, bacon, green goddess, and scallions. It came with bread, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers and apples.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Scruffy Cheese Pull

Look at that cheese pull!

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | The Melting Pot House & Caesar

Our second course was a type of salad. I went with the melting pot house which came with romaine iceberg mix, cheddar, eggs, tomatoes, croutons, with a white balsamic dressing. Scruffy opted for the Caesar salad. Both, we felt was just a filler but nice to have since there wasn’t much vegetable overall.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | The Classic Entree

We were starting to get full but we pushed through to the third course. We decided on the mojo broth, a Caribbean seasoned bouillon with distinctive garlic and citrus flair which was super limey in our opinion when the broccoli and mushrooms came out. We both got the classic entrée which came with certified Angus beef sirloin, shrimp, Memphis style dry rub pork, herb crusted chicken breast, and teriyaki marinated sirloin. The told us how long to cook everything and it all tasted fantastic.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Flaming Turtle Chocolate Fondue

We were stuffed to the brim and didn’t actually finish every single meal that we had on our dish. But we knew that we had to try the flaming turtle chocolate fondue which is a combination of milk chocolate, caramel and candied pecans flambeed table side. The strawberries and chocolate covered  marshmallows were my favorite.

2018 | 215/365 | The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Scruffy & Mellie Dee

[2018] 215/365: Date Night with My Mustache Boo

I’m glad we finally had a romantic night out and we both got to experience a new way of eating together. Scruffy said he’d come back for the cheese course whereas, I am okay never coming back. It was delicious but definitely not worth the money.

Now it’s time to snuggle up for some Shameless. Night everyone.

Treebeards | Houston, Texas

Free Chobani at Work

Whenever there’s no free breakfast at work we have yogurts and bars and poptarts to pick from. I usually go for the Chobani yogurt but that could only mean one thing …

2018 | 214/365 | Treebeards | Houston, Texas | Chicken Fried Chicken

[2018] 214/365: Delicious Comfort Food

… I’m usually starving before lunchtime and I chow down on some almonds that I have stashed at my desk. I was extremely happy that I was invited to go to lunch at Treebeards with Noah and Prisila.

I have found my favorite lunch place near work. I mean I don’t know if it’s my favorite but it sure is one of the best things that I’ve eaten here. It is southern comfort food and I ordered the chicken fried chicken, gravy on the side, with green beans and mashed potatoes. It came with a roll which had butter sandwiched in between and I even ordered a yellow cake with chocolate frosting for my coworker whose birthday is this weekend.

We ate, we had laughter, and soon it was back to work. Having that break was actually pretty nice. It made work go by a little bit faster and soon enough I was on my way home.

Tomorrow is date night with Scruffy and I cannot wait! We will be attacking one of the Houston Restaurant Week restaurants!

Jollibee Experience Makes Me Wanting More

July 27, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Jollibee | Houston, Texas

Work was way too long because Noah and I had planned since the beginning of the week to get out of work early to have a meal at Jollibee!

Jollibee | Houston, Texas | Mascot

I don’t think anyone can understand just how excited I was to walk into this place. They have horrible reviews but mostly due to their service, having to wait for the chicken to fry.

I was mostly off the walls excited because during my whole college career, every Filipino person I knew that has had Jollibee praises it.

2018 | 208/365 | Jollibee | Houston, Texas | Food

[2018] 208/365: Jollibee Happiness

  • Original and Spicy Fried Chicken – spicy is the way to go so I’m glad I got six of those as opposed to the two originals. They come with gravy to dip the cluckers. I don’t care for the gravy. Next time I come I’m getting a bucket of Spicy Fried Chicken (six piece for ten dollars) … for myself.
  • Spaghetti with Hot Dog Bits – I’m pretty sure there was only two little bits of hot dog in there. Pretty ridiculous. Super sugary.
  • Hot Dog – nothing too special. I make hot dogs better than this.
  • Mashed Potatoes – they are mashed potatoes. Nothing to rave about. Not enough gravy in it so glad I had the free side of gravy to add to it.
  • Pineapple Soda – I’m not a fan of pineapples but was floored but how much I didn’t hate it. I’m sure it’s filled with sugar too.
  • Halo-Halo – we weren’t too happy about this. I actually meant to order the taro or pandan drink but failed and got this but was still excited. There was way too much crushed ice that melded into a giant ball of ice and just didn’t hit the spot for us.

They’ve been opened for a while but I’ve never had a chance to go until today so we practically ordered everything off the menu. We have to come back for the rest another day but spicy fried chicken is a must!

Total Wine | Sugar Land, Texas | Free Wine Glasses

I dropped Noah off at home and headed to Scruffy’s. We went to the new Total Wine in Sugar Land and both won free wine glasses. I’m saving them for my new house (whenever that is).

We went to PetsMart next door to get Rizzo a new bed for his cage but couldn’t find any for his tiny crate so we headed back to his house.

Sunglass Hut | New Ray Bans

If I could make another picture, picture of the day, this would be it!

We had plans to go get me new sunglasses and a dinner as date night but Ashy convinced us to stay for dinner so we decided to get my sunglasses before dinner.

My sunglasses were crushed somehow and I needed new ones due to all the driving I do from home to work now. I made a quick decision and walked out with these beauties.

Fuzzy's Tacos | Sugar Land, Texas

Scruffy was craving tacos so we snuck to a pre dinner. He ordered two tacos, one for me, and a beerita to share.

Luna and Ball

We went back to his house and had about an hour and a half until dinner. Luna slept next to me when she realized I wasn’t going to throw the ball. So cute.

Ashy's Adas

Ashy’s Adas with some okra I brought back from Brenham. It was actually super delicious. Everything was great though I wish there was a spicy level to the adas. Regardless, it was a great decision to stay home for dinner.

Scruffy has been playing video games with Blake over the net and I am enjoying their conversations. Too funny. I’m about to fall asleep. Bye everyone!

Corner Bakery | Houston, Texas

2018 | 207/365 | Corner Bakery Lunch

[2018] 207/365: Date with Interns

I went to lunch at Corner Bakery with Noah and Joel. I’m surprised that I actually liked the lunch! I had a free soup and dessert coupon as long as I buy a lunch so it was a big win! I shared the lemon squares because sweets aren’t really a big deal for me. I’m excited to eat here again because i get an employee discount too so it’s another win.

Scruffy came and took Rizzo after work. I’m excited to see him interact with Bailey. From the videos I see it seems that results to sniff her butt. Haha Silly boy.
