Life Lately | Interviews, Birthdays, & Cookoffs
I find it hilarious that cats and toddlers are so similar. They just need an iPad with moving objects.
02.26 Still mentoring and made a pit stop at Starbucks for the first time in a long time. When did they change the cups?! It looks like a college coffee shop now.
02.27 Rarely do the kids, my pets, gather together like this. We joke that Hubble is holding a session and they’re all complaining that they aren’t getting fed on time.
I went to Coco Crepes for the first time in a long while to blog and work on a few things. I had an online meeting with Jenn about our company and then headed to the car for some quiet to take a pre-interview call. Let’s call this Company P.
Later that day I went back to the house and found my last red envelope from Gma and wanted to take a pic for remembrance.
Jenn and my rooftop plans with friends got cancelled, but we decided to still meet up. We had to wait almost two hours for a table at Crawfish Cafe, so we walked around At Home and got a lot of ideas for our company. We made a pit stop at Sushi Haya for shots, where Jenn ended up bumping into her cousin and cousin-in-law before we got our table.
We ordered our first seafood boil together and ended up eating until after the restaurant closed. Whoops. We were too into the food and our conversation.
02.28 Franco and I met up with Sissy and BIL for TUTS’ Million Dollar Quartet. We weren’t exactly sure what we’d be seeing, but it’s mostly a concert featuring four famous musicians. It recreates a historic jam session between Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins at Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee on December 4, 1956.
Finding out that “Blue Suede Shoes” was actually Carl Perkins’ song, not Elvis’s, was wild.
Later that night Franco and I met up with Jenn for our first Rodeo Cookoff! I won’t be attending the rodeo this year, so this felt like a good substitute. We met up with some old company coworkers, and Jenn was able to get us into two tents, one of which belonged to the Brisket Champion for the year. Would I ever go again? Probably. Who could say no to free food and drinks?
Now if the cookoff did crawfish boils, then there will be no doubt about it.
03.03 We had rescheduled a meeting with Jenn and my friends, but due to travel plans we had to cancel again. So what do Jenn and I do? We decide to go back to Crawfish Cafe—this time with JC and Franco. Jenn and I talked business for a bit, then we ate and spent the rest of the night chatting about random stuff.
03.04 Happy Birthday, Franco! It was a chill day. We stopped at Andretti so he could run a few laps while I played in the arcade.
Later that night we went to Perry’s Steakhouse for his birthday dinner. Their bar bites are definitely more budget-friendly and perfect since I wasn’t really that hungry.
We went back home afterward and watched a couple of episodes of Fallout.
JC’s birthday happens to be a few days after Franco’s, so Jenn and I decided to celebrate both of them together—surprise party style. Jenn and I each had a friend of theirs show up to celebrate with us.
We ordered a lot of food from the menu and played a bunch of darts. Franco got first place, Jenn second, and I came in third.
03.06 Emmy turns 9! I road-tripped with Sissy and BIL to celebrate Emmy’s birthday. As if I haven’t had enough crawfish, Sissy really wanted some and so we got some for lunch. We then went shopping for a bit and relaxed with the kids at home where we had a nice dinner with both sides of the family to celebrate Emmy.
03.07 Emmy is a published author! Her book can be found on Amazon.
She had a book signing at Half Price Books and will have another one at Barnes & Noble in a few weeks. I’m so proud of her for hosting Storytime Saturdays before her book signings. She was nervous but got through it and even made some good sales. I can’t wait for her next book.
Everly could not stay seated. As you can see, she was making faces at the crowd during the reading.
03.08 We went back home, and later that night I recorded my interview and written responses. We’ll call this Company E. It’s so weird answering questions without a person there, but also nice to be able to re-record. If it works out, I’ll be having a second interview, this time virtually with an actual person.
03.09 I had my second interview with Company P! I think it went well. They’re still finishing two other interviews before deciding. If they decide to move forward with me, I’ll be having a third interview with the company.
03.10 We had our board meeting in person over lunch today at Bloom & Bee. The food was delicious, and we spent most of the meeting working through committee updates and everything currently on our plates … both literally and figuratively.
Overall, it’s been a pretty full couple of weeks. Between interviews, birthdays, cookoffs, and book signings, we’ve definitely been busy.
Wish me luck with the interviews and that at least one sticks!
Let’s see what the rest of March brings.
