Reunion with Nickie

August 16, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Fancy Coffee by Justin at Work

Justin made me a delicious cup of caramel cappuccino with a shot of espresso using one of the many fancy coffee machines we have at work. I paired it with my leftover breakfast from Sunday. Twas delicious.

Poblano's Mexican Grill | Houston, Texas

I was still a bit full from breakfast so when it was time to meet Nickie, I wasn’t ready for a full meal at Poblano’s Mexican Grill.

[2018] 228/365: Reunion with Nickie

We both ordered a soup with a side of torta. I couldn’t make a dent in my torta but the soup was on point. Now I know where to get yummy Caldo de Res! Makes me miss Patricia’s!

I haven’t seen Nickie since summer of 2008. I was a bit weary but excited. Butterflies flew in my belly as I walked out the elevator but they soon subsided when our conversation striked. I kept it going on her since she had so much going on lately. Becoming a lawyer, getting engaged and married. It was nice to talk to someone outside of work about anything but work. I’mhoping for more of these lunch dates and hopefully it opens doors to other lunch dates. Anyone up for one? Hit me up!

Dinner at Scruffy's | Veggie and Meat

After work I headed over to Scruffy’s for dinner. We were able to sneak in an episode of Shameless before dinner and I left their house in record time.

I’ve been looking at houses but got sad because I’m poor. Someone, donate. Haha

Cosa Bella Salon & Day Spa | Houston, Texas

I got a haircut today. I’m still in search of a new place so I ended up at Cosa Bella. I feel like not too long ago (two months?) I had my hair cut and it has grown a lot so I snipped off over four inches of hair!

Cosa Bella Salon & Day Spa | Houston, Texas | Haircut

It’s a quaint little place and right when I walked in people were ready to work on me  I first got my brows done then I had a very nice lady cut my hair.

Cosa Bella Salon & Day Spa | Houston, Texas | Facial

I wanted to book a facial as well but the front desk lady wasn’t so nice and said there wasn’t any opened slots. Luckily the lady who did my brows had time and she gave me a very relaxing facial. As relaxing as it could be since I had a lot of blackheads and she needed to get into them. She asked me to come back and book a larger section of time and we could get more done but we’ll see. I might go somewhere else for a full facial one day.

I was there for two hours but they were both super nice and kept the conversation going making it a fast visit. They were very informative as well which is always great.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas

I had thirty minutes to kill before dinner for Houston Restaurant Week with Juhi and Erin at Kitchen 713. I drove over and relaxed in the car as I waited for time to pass.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas | Crispy Eggplant & Gumbo

Soon enough we were seated and were served our first course, Crispy Eggplant and Gumbo. They picked the same thing while I went the less traditional route. Everything tasted delicious.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas | Black Vinegar Braised Oxtail, Shrimp & Grits, & Bourbon Glazed Pork Chops

We couldn’t put a dent into our second course and packed most of it away. Black Vinegar Braised Oxtail, Shrimp & Grits, and Bourbon Glazed Pork Chops. There was so many oxtail portions that I brought it home for my family!

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas | Espresso Creme Brulee & Sweet Potato Bread Pudding

We all saved room for dessert. They both ordered the Sweet Potato Bread Pudding and the Espresso Creme Brulee for me. We polished these off.

[2018] 226/365: Juhi & Erin

It was nice getting together with these ladies and being able to enjoy a joyouse evening together. We talked nonstop for two and a half hours and if it was the weekend I’m sure we could have talked for many more hours.

It sucks that they have their own stories together now without me but I guess that’s just life. I can only hope we have more of these moments together.

Now to get ready for bed and cuddle with Rizzo. Night, everyone!

2018 Houston Restaurant Week with Mum

August 12, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Black Bear Diner | Katy, Texas

Sissy and BIL came to visit and picked up Mum, June and I. We went to Pet Supplies Plus, Buy, Buy, Baby and Bed, Bath and Beyond before heading to lunch at Black Bear Diner. They have locations all over the states so it was about time we had one. They have super big portions. I ordered the big portion of chicken fried steak and it came with two giant biscuits. I also added an order of bacon.

I ended up eating half a chicken fried steak, the bacon, a bite of potatoes and the watermelon. I ate a third of a biscuit and gave the rest to June before packing everything up. I was stuffed.

We stopped by Kroger so that they could pick up their groceries before we went home. They left and I went a took a nap.

[2018] 224/365: 6th Houston Restaurant Week With Mum

When I woke up I went to Mum and I’s annual Houston Restaurant Week. We picked McCormick’s and Schmick’s this time.

Bread and butter for the table. We each ate a slice and pushed it away to save room for the our three course meal.

First course, Crab and Corn Chowder and Buttermilk Fried Scallop. We both agreed the chowder was the best.

Second course, Steak and Lobster (an additional $10) and Pan Seared Sea Scallops. Though it was delicious, I thought the steak and lobster was more worth the money. I even added the Foie Gras Butter with it for that extra oomph. The scallops were great but I wasn’t a super huge fan of the risotto that came with it. I had to pack more than half my steak to go!

We ordered off the Houston Restaurant Week menu and got the Lobster Mashed Potatoes. Mum LOVED this mostly because of the lobster and sauce on top.

Third course, Upside Down Apple Pie and Florida Key Lime Pie. We both finished the Key Lime and wrapped the apple one for June. We were stuffed.

Mum even ordered a cappuccino which was bitter up the wazoo but I guess that’s how it is since it’s not Starbucks. Haha

I went home, meal prepped chicken lettuce wraps for the week and am now ready to shower and head to bed. Night, everyone.

Leeland House | Houston, Texas

Leeland House | Houston, Texas

This morning Scruffy and I woke up for some brunching with Sissy and BIL at the Leeland House. I rarely get to brunch so I was super excited to hear that they were okay it wasn’t tacos.

Leeland House | Houston, Texas | Shrimp & Grits, Brisket Hash, Bloody Mary

Scruffy and I got the Shrimp and Grits and Brisket Hash with a Bloody Mary. I could do without the Bloody Mary but the dishes were ON POINT. I scarfed down the grits in record time. I know they butter it up to make it so great but I didn’t care.

Leeland House | Houston, Texas | Sweet Potato Hash & Big Daddy Benedict

Sissy and BIL got the Sweet Potato Hash and Big Daddy Benedict. They were both equally delicious. This is a place I’d take people to if I lived out there and had people visiting. No bad dishes so far and I want to try all the others.

Fireman Board Game

We went back to their house where we played Exploding Kittens and some fireman board game. Both surprisingly fun. But Scruffy and I had to call it and we headed back to my place and we took an hour nap before heading to Andrew’s.

2018 | 223/365 | Dinner at Andrew’s

[2018] 223/365: Delicious Steak

We all went to HEB to buy groceries for dinner. We made delicious steak, salmon stuffed with crab, vegetable skewers, mac and cheese, and French fries. It was definitely too much food but it was a delicious one especially since I’ve been craving a steak for the longest time.

I cannot believe the weekend is almost over.

Crazy Rich Asian Premiere

August 8, 2018 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

Rizzo in a Bag

After work I went home and relaxed a bit before getting ready for the premiere of Crazy Rich Asians at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.

I went to grab some earrings out of this bag and he decided to climb into it thinking that this bag was going with me but boy was he was wrong. He’s cute though.

Mellie Dee Waiting Outside Alamo Drafthouse

This is me, waiting patiently for the sisters to arrive. I was lucky enough to get front row parking and I just wanted to show I wore a colored lippy. Very rare sight.

Crazy Rich Asian Premier | Black Tie Party

When Madison arrived, we walked in to a waiter serving free champagne and there was a violinist and cellist playing beautiful songs. They even played a piece that I played back in high school as my solo that received a I! Good memories.

2018 | 220/365 | Crazy Rich Asian Premier | Mellie Dee, Mallory, Madison

[2018] 220/365: Paparazzi

Mallory showed up soon after and we were downing our champagnes and taking pictures. They even have a glamourous photo booth and a lady taking pictures on the red carpet.

The sisters wore their old bridesmaid dresses while I wore my work clothes. As Madison puts it, I’m already rich so I don’t need to try as hard. Hahaha

P.S. I’m not rich. It was a joke.

Crazy Rich Asian Premier | Alamo Drafthouse

You can see the red carpet in “greetings from” picture. You even get your own tables and a place to hang your purse! I will say that the table was way too small though. But man did Alamo Drafthouse upgrade from their old one!

Crazy Rich Asian Premier

Soon enough we were seated and a lady shows up on stage. Since it was sponsored by Kendra Scott, the company gave away twenty jewelry sets for everyone that had a gold sticker on their menu. The three of us were not lucky as we watched everyone get up and grab their prizes.

The movie itself was pretty great. I was surprised to see that the main cast was Asian. In the last post, I talked about how there aren’t much Asians on the screens so this was a big eye opener and to know so many people in the theater liked it was a plus.

We joked that I should have tried out to be an extra or something. Sigh … maybe one day.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Alamo Drafthouse

The three of us ordered off the Houston Restaurant Week menu. I ordered their special popcorn and an avocado burger. Since we ordered off that menu we all received a movie ticket to come back and use. How great is that?!

The only thing horrible about this theater was the service. I’m not sure if it’s because it opened recently and they’re working out the kinks, or because there was a lot of people at the premier, or because they were just sucky. Either way, I’ll give it another try before I never come back again.

Oh wow, it’s getting late. Time to unwind and hit the hay.
