2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Part II

April 14, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Crown Seafood Restaurant | Houston, Texas

This morning, we went to the cemetery to do some Buddhist/Daoism thing for Grandma. We aren’t religious but we do it for her when she asks. Afterwards, we went to lunch at Crown Seafood Restaurant.

Timothy, Peggy and June ordered way too much food. This scene brings me back to Hong Kong with the family when Dad ordered a table full of food. It was fun trying new things though.

We stopped by Eck Bakery on the way home.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Eck Bakery | Houston, Texas | Egg Tarts

They have the best egg tarts in Houston. Houston because everything in Hong Kong tastes better of course! This would have been my picture of the day but there’s something better down below!

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Fresh, Live Lobsters

Wilson went to the market and bought live, fresh lobster to cook for the ENTIRE family.

He even took time out to crack the shells beforehand for easy eating.

This is the end result. The picture doesn’t do it justice. It was steaming and fogging up my lens but my dang, was it good.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Fresh, Live Razor Clams

The best thing was seeing razor clams in a stainless steel bowl. I was so surprised because I didn’t know these were sold here. I’ve only had it once by June’s sister back in Hong Kong in 2012.

The end product was DANG good. This was the highlight of the day. Razor clams and getting to spend time with my cousin. He taught me a lot of new skills. There was a part where I got teary-eyed because I wished we saw each other more.

We stopped by Katie’s house a bit for Wilson and Mei Mei to see before we headed home. Tomorrow is a new day and a long drive ahead so, peace out world!

An 8-Hour Interview

March 29, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Leftover Kim Son's Vegan Pho

I started off the day eating my leftovers for breakfast before leaving for my interview at 9 am. This was the longest, brain powered interview I’ve ever had. We ended at 4:45 pm! How crazy is that?! Have you ever heard of an 8 hour interview, because that was the first for me!

[2018] 088/365: Interview Lunch

They did give me a swag bag in the beginning for showing up, validated my $40 parking, and took me out for lunch at Azuma. For being downtown and the price, I would have hoped for a better chicken katsu. It was a bit on the dry side but with the amount they gave, I had enough for another meal so I cannot complain much.

After all of that, even if I didn’t get the job, it was nice to have met so many smart people. It’s been a while since I’ve had conversations for eight hours straight but now, I have a headache so time to relax and forget about the interview! Peace out, world!

Beating the Traffic

Kim's Teahouse | Katy, Texas

This morning Joanna, Jasmine, and Katie came over to play with Rocky and Rizzo. After they left, I decided to head to Kim’s Tea house for lunch and I brought along my laptop to work on some coding exercises while chowing down.

[2018] 087/365: Pho Goodness

I’m currently at Sissy and BIL’s, spending the night since I have things to do in the morning and it feels good not having to sit in traffic.

It took us a good hour to figure out where we were going to order food from then another hour for it to be delivered so at the end it was the best pho I had in forever. Obviously, everyone knows that there are better places but we make do.

Sleepy bed time. Night, y’all!

Rizzo Sleeping On Me

Today has been a whirl. Rizzo has been sticking by me non-stop, even during nap time, afraid that I’ll leave without him. He’s been watching me pack and wanting to jump into my purse or bag, wherever he can fit. So freaking adorable.

Jin Korean BBQ | Plano, Texas

We made our way to Dallas for Emmy’s 1st birthday party this weekend and had dinner at Jin Korean BBQ. YUM!!

[2018] 061/365: Korean BBQ

We usually do this at home so getting to do it, all-you-can-eat, is pretty great! We were so stuffed.

Right now, I’m watching Z Storm with the parents and June, along with Rizzo, Pluto, and Krypto while Sissy, BIL, Brudda, and Scruffy are downstairs with Rocky, Bruno, and Kato playing games.

I cannot wait to see little Emmy. We got here too late so we missed saying good night to her.

Happy Derpy Luna

China Bear | Stafford, Texas | Crawfish

I started out the day with some crawfish with Scruffy at China Bear. It wasn’t the best so it was disappointing. Overcooked but I guess it’s what you’d expect from a buffet. I did fill up with some veggies, shrimps, and lo mein.

99 Ranch Market | Sugar Land, Texas | Coconut Bread

Afterward, we headed over to 99 Ranch Market to get his GMama some green onion crackers. We stopped by the bakery in there for some coconut bread to take back to my family. Look at all that bread!! My goodness!

2018 | 057/365 | Luna Happy-Derp Face

[2018] 057/365: Happy Derpy Luna

Luna kept wanting us to throw the ball for her. This girl never stops with the ball. This is her face when I said “NO MORE!”

Luna | Tongue Out Waiting for the Ball

Later we went out where I helped his dad broom some of the leaves/dirt. Here’s Luna with her tongue out, waiting for me to throw the ball. Sigh … at least Daisy lives on.

Tahdig with Vegetables and Ground Meat

Ashy made us some delicious tahdig with some veggies and ground beef mixed in. We slathered on some Harissa Hot Sauce for some flavour since his GMama can’t have sodium.

Now I’m back at my own house, while Rocky and Rizzo sleep in my bed.
