Ono Poke | Houston, Texas

Ono Poke | Houston, Texas

Work hard, play hard. Or in my case, eat hard. Scruffy picked me up for lunch and we went to Ono Poke.

Ono Poke | Houston, Texas | Prep

I wonder how long the fish has been sitting out in their bar. It’s kind of cool to see them prep our bowls though.

[2018] 142/365: Lunch Date with Scruffy

I got the Classic Ahi (adding seaweed salad, masago, and avocado) and Scruffy got the Spicy Salmon and Tuna. It was very delicious but we got sick of eating the same flavour and was happy we had each other’s to pick at. It would be pretty cool if they had a split bowl like boba places have split cups. Can I patent that?

Meet the Parents

Katz Breakfast Delivery at Work

Breakfast was served from Katz at work today. Sorry for the blurry picture. I am a bit shy to take pics of my food at work. They’ll get better.

Brooklyn Meatball Co. | Houston, Texas

The college girl showed me around the tunnels and I grabbed lunch to bring back to my desk afternoon. Brooklyn Meatball Co. is one of the select few that isn’t Asian or Mediterranean.

Brooklyn Meatball Co. | Houston, Texas | Spicy Marinara Spaghetti and Meatballs

I got the spicy marinara spaghetti with meatballs. They give you so much food and the marinara is definitely spicy enough to give it that pow but not so spicy you’re dying for water. I have enough left over for another meal!

Brooklyn Meatball Co. | Houston, Texas | Cannoli

I cannot resist a cannoli so I went ahead and got one. Not really that great and I will say that I am starting to feel a bit meh about cannolis. Sigh, I’ll never find an amazing one.

Alonti Market Cafe | Houston, Texas

When we were walking around, she stopped by Alonti Market Cafe to pick up her foods.

Alonti Market Cafe | Houston, Texas | Roasted Red Potatoes

I couldn’t resist getting the roasted red potatoes, especially since she said it was one of the best she’s ever had. It’s not bad, but I’ve had way better. It’s enough to curb my potato cravings though.

After work, I went and got an oil change at the dealership. Dad picked me up and I was able to go to the bank and pick up a gift for Grandma for Mother’s Day. He then dropped me off to pick up my car and I went to Sprouts and World Market. Shopping for gifts, oh how I missed you.

2018 | 131/365 | Crown Seafood Restaurant | Houston, Texas | Birthday Dinner with Parents, Sissy, BIL, Scruffy, Ashy, and Jamie

[2018] 131/365: Meet the Parents

To kick off my birthday weekend, my parents, Sissy, BIL, Scruffy, Ashy, Jamie and I all met up at Crown Seafood Restaurant for dinner. From what I can tell, Ashy and Jamie seemed to like it, their first real Chinese food experience.

This is officially meet the parents. Dun Dun Dunnnn.

Fruit Tarts from Sissy and BIL at La Madeline's

Sissy bought me little fruit tarts from La Madeline since they’re one of my favourite things. YUM!

2018 Birthday Present from Ashy and Jamie

The gifts from Ashy and Jamie to use for our upcoming family trip. I’m excited! Everything is super cute, especially the flip-flops. You cannot tell but they have glitter bands!

Now to experiment with a new recipe in hopes it goes well so that I can bring it to Mother’s Day dinner tomorrow night!

Wok & Roll | Houston, Texas

May 8, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I received my parking badge yesterday and parked there this morning. It resulted in me getting lost when exiting the building but I still made it on time. I filled up my Thermos cup with water and noticed all the fresh fruits they had sitting out. I also realized that they had Chobani and Yoplait yoghurt, sodas, water bottles, espresso/latte maker, coffee/tea maker, as well as instant chicken noodle or instant veggie soup mix for grabs. All great for when you’re in that slump and need a pick me up.

Wok & Roll | Houston, Texas

When lunchtime hit, I was super tired and happy to get away from the desk to fuel back up. I went back into the tunnels and ended up with a bad choice: Wok & Roll. I need to start hitting up non-Asian places and get out of my comfort zone.

[2018] 218/365: Greasy Asian Food

A bad choice because it was greasy. It was good though but I’ve definitely had better. I did slurp up all the soup and saved a lot of the plate for tomorrow … possibly for breakfast.

Since I went in a bit earlier today, I was able to leave a bit early as well. I was able to find my car quite simply this time around and with the time I left it worked SO much better with less traffic. Now it’s showering and getting ready for bed, cuddling with Rizzo and watching TVB’s Apple-Colada.

First Day on the Job

May 7, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 | 127/365 | First Day of Work Look

[2018] 127/365: First Day Look

Today marks the first day of my new job. I woke up a bit groggy since I didn’t fall asleep until after midnight, thanks to not having a consistent schedule since unemployment. I soon kicked into a full go-go-go mode and got ready while Mum took Rizzo out to potty for me. Rizzo was sitting on the stairs waiting for me to go back upstairs for more cuddles, poor baby.

After almost an hour of driving, I finally made it to the office, sitting in the office for over an hour since my new line manager was stuck in a meeting. She showed me around and introduced me to a few people and threw me to the dogs! Ha Just kidding. I pretty much shadowed someone throughout the day.

Downtown Tunnels

Time flew by VERY fast and I didn’t realize it was time for lunch. I ventured into the tunnels on my own in search of lunch around 12 PM. This is where a giant corporation differed where lunch is usually with the whole team but I made do and picked up my own lunch.

Baoz Dumplings | Houston, Texas

It took me a while to decide on Baoz Dumplings where you order and take it to go.

Baoz Dumplings | Houston, Texas | Chicken Dumplings Special with Lobster Ball and Hot and Sour Soup & Passion Fruit Green Tea

Chicken Dumplings Special with Lobster Ball and Hot and Sour Soup • Passion Fruit Green Tea

I found a nice little sitting area and had my lunch all by my lonesome, enjoying some Parks and Rec on the side. The dumplings aren’t the best things ever but were able to keep me a bit full. The lobster ball is ridiculous and not that great – rip off. Their tea was overly sweet and I had to throw it away after drinking a third of it. Just water for me, please! I don’t mind coming back for some dumplings and hot and sour soup though.

Rizzo Asleep with the Red Ball

After a little over an hour drive, I made it home. Little Rizzo was so ecstatic to see me. My little baby. Time to cuddle with him. Bye y’all!

Stuffing Our Faces

May 3, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

85°C Bakery Cafe | Sugar Land, Texas

I was running around like a headless chicken finding a place that notarizes I-9 forms for work. After a few attempts and getting back so many nos, I headed over to Scruffy’s where we hung out for a bit before heading to lunch. We stopped by 85 Degree Bakery since the restaurant wasn’t opened yet and grabbed a handfuls of goodies, mostly for my parents … if Ashy doesn’t eat it all.

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar | Sugar Land, Texas

Once Kura Revolving Sushi opened we started to feast. Fifteen plates later, we got our little gift (sushi washi tape) and Scruffy scarfed another one before we called it quits.

2018 | 123/365 | Venice Nails & Spa | Sugar Land, Texas | Pedicure

After eating, I dropped Scruffy off at his house and stopped by the new job’s company to sign the I-9 form in front of them since I couldn’t find a place to notarize. After that I went and got my nails done at Venice Nail & Spa since Jamie and Ashy got me a gift card at Christmas time.

The Rouxpour | Sugar Land, Texas

I went back to Scruffy’s, hung out a bit and after a few hours of trying to decide where to go for dinner. Scruffy wanted to treat me to celebrate finding a job and we ended up at The Rouxpour for a drink and some delicious oysters. The one with spinach, crab, and hollandaise oyster was our clear winner as well as the original with nothing on it. As Scruffy describes it, super buttery and easy to go down.

The Sugar Refinery | Sugar Land, Texas

Few doors down was the The Sugar Refinery where we grabbed some Saloon Door Tasty AF, calamari, and an old fashioned.

HEB Seafood Stuffed Salmon and Frozen Brussels Sprouts

Since a lot of places were closing, we went to HEB and picked up things for our main entree meal. I went for the seafood stuffed salmon and frozen Brussels sprouts while Scruffy opted to fry fries, corn dogs, and whatever else he could get his hands on since Mum gifted him a fryer.

I am now tired and ready to just lay down and relax.
