Rizzo & Luna’s Reunion

October 26, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Rizzo and Purple Dog

Scruffy and I met up to catch up at the dog park and Rizzo got to see Luna. It’s funny how the world works because I realized today marks one whole year since we broke up. Per usual, Luna was too into the ball but I got some pets in and was able to throw her a few balls. We all walked several laps as well. I’m sure Rizzo was happy to get out of the house because after his shower all he wanted to do was go under the blankets and sleep.

Yummy Crawfish and Seafood | Katy, Texas | Snow Crab, Shrimp, Oysters

My boss gave me an okay to use the corporate card for a certain amount to take a loved one somewhere nice to dinner this weekend. I took Mum and we chose Yummy Crawfish and Seafood since it was close and we got to get a lot for our buck. My eyes, per usual, was bigger than my stomach.

Kim's Teahouse | Katy, Texas | Taro Smoothie

We stopped by Kim’s Teahouse to pick up a few drinks as well. We’re sipping and watching the Astros dominate. Come on ‘Stros!

Matching BBBS, Mentoring, Initial Lasik Checkup

October 22, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I received an email from Big Brothers Big Sisters today! I’ve matched with a mentee! I’m excited to see where this goes. I heard it’s hard to get selected and once selected you don’t always get matched so my heart is a little on the happy side right now. Eeep!

Elementary Mentoring | Guess Who

I finally got to see my 3rd grader today. We played with Christopher’s kid as well. War, Connect Four, Guess Who, etc. All the kids were a little off the walls today but I guess it was a nice break from work.

Joffe Medicenter | Houston, Texas | Initial Checkup

Luckily I got to leave early so that I could make it to my initial checkup on my eyes. Their machine goes down to 20/15 so I’m not sure if my eyes are better than that but what good news! The only thing is waiting for my astigmatism to slowly correct itself. It’s not horrible but they said that my eyes will adjust with time so fingers crossed!

Baby Finn’s Baby Shower

October 19, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Mum, June and I woke up early to pick up Sissy and headed off to Dallas. I slept most of the way to rest my eyes. It was nice not having to drive all day!

Wu Wei Din | Plano, Texas

We left with Brudda, Emmy, and Sammi for lunch at Wu Wei Din. The Xiao long bao aren’t the very best but still one of the bests in Houston other than Wanna Bao.

QQ Teahouse | Plano, Texas

We went next door to QQ Teahouse And it ended up being one of the worst teahouses I’ve been too. That’s all I’m going to say on that.

Baby Finn's Surprise Baby Shower

Sissy and I went and picked up surprise things for baby Ethan. Brudda went to bed and SIL was still at work. SIL’s mum, Jenny, and Le showed up. It was successful!! Sissy made the teddy bear and I made the decorations for the cake. We all are and talked and had a grand time.

Bols | Plano, Texas

We were supposed to go to the State Fair but ended up against it. We went and got Bols for dinner with Jenny and Le. This place is definitely one of the best ramen places we’ve been to.

Fat Straws | Plano, Texas

We stopped by Fat Straws for another Team but mostly for their mochi donuts. We got the blueberry, strawberry, black sesame, and matcha. We’re saving that for tomorrow’s breakfast though.

We’re back at the house watching the rest of the Astros game. All on the edge of our seats!

Lasik Procedure at Joffe Medicenter

October 18, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

WARNING: there are eyeball pictures that can be a trigger for some towards the end.

Last Day of Prescription Glasses

Yesterday was the last day I wore my prescription glasses for a full day. I was surprised by how many compliments I got wearing them. I guess I’m still scarred by being made fun of when I was a kid.

Joffe Medicenter | Houston, Texas | Lasik | Consent Forms

This morning, June took me to see the wizard for new eyeballs. I signed my life away and swiped my cards to pay for everything.

Joffe Medicenter | Houston, Texas | Lasik | Procedure

After having much laughter with the nurse I went into the room and got my procedure done. They were nice enough to take pictures for me.

Joffe Medicenter | Houston, Texas | Lasik | Procedure Monitor

This is what you see on the monitors. How crazy is this?! You can see the flap they made too.

Joffe Medicenter | Houston, Texas | Lasik | Dr. Kevin Merkley

The whole procedure took 10 to 15 minutes. I really don’t even know because the Xanax made me so chill. All I remember is taking a picture with Dr. Kevin Merkley and walking out the door.

Joffe Medicenter | Houston, Texas | Lasik | Stunna Shades

As we drove home we stopped and bought food but since I was woozy I ended up sleeping the whole time until 6pm. I had a long phone call with Delisha, ate dinner, and am already ready to go back to bed.

There is little discomfort but nothing too major. I do have to keep up with artificial tears constantly so it won’t dry up. The other drops I need to take are four times a day for a week. These do burn just a bit. I cannot wait for this to all be healed so i can live a life without contacts or glasses. Last time I remember that life was back in 1st grade.

Lasik Consultation + Gaining a Few Pounds

October 12, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Joffe Medicenter | Lasik Consultation

I took the plunge and went to my Lasik consultation this morning. I put in the max amount in my flexible spending account to force myself to get this procedure done before the year was over since you lose what you don’t spend.

I chose Joffe Medicenter because my coworker’s mentor went there with his wife a couple of years ago. And plus they had 5 star ratings on Google and Yelp so I assume it has to be pretty darn good.

My consultation went well and I passed all the tests. My procedure will be done next week. I’m scared but excited. It would suck if it failed in the end but I guess I’ll never know until I try. Wish me luck!

Pokeworks | Houston, Texas | Foodie Tasting

Tan invited me to a Foodie event at Pokeworks and I got to play around with the props along with the food we ordered. I was told I’m good at that which made me happy and sometimes makes me wonder if I’m in the wrong line of work.

Pokeworks | Houston, Texas | Foodie Tasting Simple

I like simpler pictures though and these made me happy enough. It’s currently soft opening but their grand opening, on October 19, 2019, will have the BOGO deal along with a chance to win an Apple Watch!

8550 South Main Street, Houston, Texas 77025

Flower & Cream Artisan Ice Cream | Houston, Texas

We then went and got dessert at Flower & Cream. I opted for Unicorn Tracks that tastes like Lucky Charms cereal, Caramel Apple Pie with real bits of apples in a Salted Blue Corn waffle cone. Everything was delicious though I would stick with just the Unicorn Tracks next time. I loved it more than I thought I would!

The Path of Tea | Houston, Texas

He suggested we go to The Path of Tea. I’ve been wanting to go here since forever and was happy I finally made it! So many different teas to chose from! I chose the Relaxation Blend. It had a bit of mint in it but it made me so relaxed I started getting sleepy … or maybe my food coma was kicking in. I ended up getting some to go for nights where I can’t unwind (every night).

I am stuffed. It’s crazy how Tan and I lost contact due to going to different colleges and from one response on Instagram we had our reunion and our life is just talks on relationships with guys and food. He says he’ll invite me to more events in the future so fingers crossed!
