2017 New Year’s Eve

January 1, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

You know how people do the picture of the day type deal on Instagram? I want to do the same but knowing me I won’t keep up with it so we’ll see how well I do with putting it here on my blog.

[2018] 001/365: Where Sleeping Beauties Lie

A recap of last night into the new year follows:

Scruffy and I were able to celebrate together this year. He came over with Luna and we spent it with my parents, June, Rocky, and Rizzo.

We had hot pot for dinner.

Scruffy and I learned how to play Mahjong … I won big!

Lit up the sky with fireworks.

Trying out that cotton candy champagne fad for funsies. Happy 2018 y’all!! Here’s to the new year, new happy memories. . . . . #newyearseve #newyear #champagne #cottoncandy #foodpic #foodie #foodblogger #blogger #houstonfood #boomerang #melliedeephotography #melliedeeeatery

Drank champagne and rose. Cotton candy champagne fad verdict: color change was cool to see but it didn’t add any sweetness to the drink.

Scruffy and I played Mario Party and then he went to bed with the pups while I searched for jobs. The next morning we went and got lunch at Los Cucos, one of his favourite restaurants for a Chimichanga. We walked around the mall a bit then went home, played a round of Mario Party before parting ways.

It was a busy but fun night which will stay in my memories forever. Here’s to more happy memories ahead!

December 31, 2017 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Recap of 2017 New Year Resolutions

  • Focus more on health and fitness
    • What a joke. I did none of that. I was more focused on being lazy and shoveling food in my face.
    • I definitely read more this year, thanks to the Kindle, but I will say I read more in the beginning of the year than the end.
  • Travel somewhere new
    • Japan layover for Vincent and Rachel’s Wedding
    • Illinois and Wisconsin for Sarah and Jacky’s Wedding.
  • Blog at least once a week
    • Total failure on this. I was lucky to get even one a month!

My 2018 New Year Resolutions – pretty much the same as last year

  • Get a job and get off unemployment
  • Refocus on health and fitness
  • Travel somewhere new
  • Blog as much as possible
  • Save money for a new place

Relaxing Weekend

October 16, 2017 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Scruffy's Swimming Pool

I’ve been asking for a relaxing weekend and I got one! If I look at my boyfriend’s backyard at this angle, it feels like a resort. Love it!

Good Thins Sweet Potato

Friday night was fairly stressful since I advanced into the next stage of a job I applied to. They sent me a two/three hour online test. There was a timed word problems portion which pretty much killed me. I haven’t taken maths in years and was not too sure why I had to take it. Thank goodness for these Sweet Potato Good Thins making me feel better. Crispy like a chip. I ate my feelings.

Shrimp Boil Ingredients by Scruffy

Saturday, Scruffy and I went to the store and came home with these goodies.

Scruffy's Swimming Pool - Daisy

He cooked as I swam and threw the balls for the pups.

After an hour later, lunch was served. This is one of my favourite meals in life … add in crawfish and it would be the best meal ever.

Rizzo Asleep on Rubber Bone

Rizzo was pooped from being out in the sun. Daisy and Luna were both tired from running around. The pups slept a lot which was perfect because soon enough it was time for dinner.

Creamy Tuscan Pasta and Chicken Thighs with Bacon Asparagus Pastry Twists

Creamy Tuscan Pasta and Chicken Thighs with Bacon Asparagus Pastry Twists

I kicked Scruffy out of his own kitchen so that I could make him dinner. The chicken was the only thing I wasn’t a great fan of. Next time I’ll probably stick to chicken breasts since they cook better in a skillet. But overall, I was happy with how things came out.

Hazelnut Chocolate Puff Pastry Flowers

Hazelnut Chocolate Puff Pastry Flowers

Since a box of puff pastry comes with two sheets and I used one for the asparagus, I decided to make a dessert out of the other. Hazelnut chocolate is just a fancy way of saying Nutella and who doesn’t like Nutella?! These came out better than I thought, though I could have done better with the flower petals. These were the only ones that looked decent.

Chicken Pesto Pasta with Zucchini, Carrots, and Mushrooms

Chicken Pesto Pasta with Zucchini, Carrots, and Mushrooms

Sunday, Scruffy made little weenies and we ate that along with cheese as a snack since we had a late breakfast. I made dinner and the leftovers were packed as my lunch the rest of the week. I can seriously eat pesto pasta forever as well. So freaking yum.

Super MarioWorld

In between everything we switched off watching telly and playing Super MarioWorld, reminiscing about our childhood. How did we ever beat the levels when we were younger?! We were having such a difficult time beating certain levels. So sad.

7th Wonder with Scruffy

We also played a few rounds of 7th Wonder which has become one of our favourite go to games. I really need to look into an expansion pack but not too sure if it’s worth it.

Always thankful for weekends like these, where I can just relax with the pups and boyfriend doing nothing but play games, cook, and watch telly.

I Survived Hurricane Harvey

2017 Scruffy Birthday Perry Steakhouse Pork Chop

Scruffy’s Birthday at Perry’s Steakhouse

These past three months we’ve celebrated a bunch of graduates, Dad, Scruffy, BIL and June’s birthdays, went to South Padre with Sissy, BIL, and Scruffy, saw Emmy couple of times, had Michelle’s baby shower, bid farewell to Michelle as she traveled to New York with her husband for residency, bid farewell to Apurva as she traveled to Pennsylvania with her family, got into a car accident, had a ton of crawfish, went to breweries, and played house with Scruffy which actually worked out pretty well.

Rizzo Looking Out the Window

I survived Hurricane Harvey and although we came out alive with our house still intact, I took a beating from the constant worry that we were going to flood, that our family and friends were going to flood. Our neighborhood was one of the ones that were on voluntary evacuation and we were lucky the rain stopped just enough for the flood to not reach our house. Rizzo was able to spend a big chunk of a month (three weeks) with me literally every waking moment due to this disaster but he’d have to miss me while I’m gone this upcoming Monday when I go back into the office.

Killen's Texas Barbecue | Pearland, Texas

Speaking of my job, I found out I will be let go from a company I’ve been with for over ten years. Bummer. But with how the oil and gas industry has been I can’t blame them. They’ve already let go so many people that I’m lucky I’ve survived as long as I have and it won’t stop even once I’m gone. I’ve been constantly job searching with no avail. I haven’t given up but I’m slowly getting frustrated.

Wish me luck!

Happy One Month, Emmy!

April 6, 2017 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Pool Day | Rizzo & Luna

Scruffy and I celebrated Emmy’s one month early by taking a couple of days off for a pool day with the pups and relaxation. Luna looks so serious.

Emmy & Rizzo Meet

Rizzo finally had a chance to meet her when she came down. How cute is this? He was so hesitant and gentle. He’s such a good puppy.

Emmy's One Month | Jenny & Mellie Dee

Jenny and I being aunties at Emmy’s one-month celebration. We had dinner where the extended families finally got to meet the little princess. She pretty much slept through the entire event. I cannot wait for the end of May to hold her again.

Gold Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Scruffy was the bestest and drove me to a couple stores so that I could get the gold Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Since the 8 is coming out, they were having a promotion so I had to cop one for myself. Other than having issues with tempered glass and cases, I’m loving it. Off to mess around with my phone some more. Ciao!
