One Year At My Job

August 6, 2013 by Mellie Dee 9 Comments

Remember that time I wrote my One Month Anniversary?

Well, today marks my one year. Gah, time has definitely flew by. And my feelings I wrote about in the one month has changed.

Here’s a quick update on how things are going:

    • I’ve grown closer to Wacko (who I’ve known for 6+ years now), Zuco, and Tony. They’re a family so it’s kind of cool to hang out with their family and friends. Get to know them outside of work.

    • My team is still amazing … minus some people like B.A.B. but I can live if B.A.B. is civil enough.
    • Happy Hours are getting more inappropriate sometimes but I guess when you’re out of the office, anything goes. Still getting use to that.

    • Fruit: still free and still delicious.
    • I still think I’m super lucky to have a job. My fear is that I can lose it very easily so I try and work my hardest. Sometimes I get intense so I need to pull back from that.

I’m planning to buy a book about my line of work so I can understand it better. It’ll be $130 well spent … hopefully.

Thinking about going back to school is … tough. But hopefully I figure it out soon. Yes. I’ve been studying GRE … well I bought the book. The studying hasn’t started yet.

Now to maybe reward myself. What shall I get? Hmm … possibilities.

Great Memories

August 4, 2013 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

Last night I went out with a few coworkers and their family members at Wild West. The coworker’s were all related so it’s pretty much the same family.

We mainly went there for Tylor … remember him? (JK) Well, he apparently does not work there anymore and now works at a closer country dancehall … by me. Who wants to go? 😉 I’m just kidding … maybe.

While I was there, Blake’s post came to my head. Thanks, Blake, for your lovely post that still resonates with me. Glad to know I’m not the only one that feels that way. Although my clothes aren’t sexy, I was comfortable and had a lot of fun.IMG_20130804_050416

I get told I need to grow a pair of balls … and maybe I do need to. Figuratively of course.

There was a cute guys standing by himself with a couple and two of my friends went up to him and asked him if he’d like to dance with me. I ran away. Literally. It’s weird for me to dance with random people I don’t know. I understand that’s how it’s done nowadays but it’s still foreign for me.

IMG_20130804_050715

One day, I’ll grow some balls. But until then, I’ll continue partying with my friends like I’ve always done.IMG_20130804_025248

When I got home … around 2:30am. I chilled with Mum a bit then I went to the kitchen to … food prep! Yes. At 3am. What do you do when you can’t sleep?

I got done around 5am, watched a Chinese Soap then fell asleep at 6am. Waking up at 12pm on a Sunday was glorious.

And my brother’s home! Along with Pluto & Krypto. I love when the house is full … of doggies! Wishing Sissy, BIL, and Bruno were here! We miss y’all.

*hmm .. hope y’all don’t mind the pictures on here.*

Just Another Friday Off

August 3, 2013 by Mellie Dee 4 Comments

Went to Kohl’s for a good hour and bought two things for $25! Yay!

Friday off … and I went to McDonald’s. I had been craving the fries from there which is horrible but I figure I don’t eat that bad during the week so it should be okay. Darn Smurfs got in my Kid’s Meal instead of those Minions. *sigh*

IMG_20130802_125237

Curled my hair waiting for Apurva. I wish I had more time to curl my hair but laziness is a factor as to why I don’t. Can someone have like a party or something so I can do this again?

I need a haircut. I keep saying that but I am going to get one … soon.

Apurva and I went shopping at Katy Mills Mall and I found these cute cards and envelopes. Perfectly cheap and great to write people birthday notes or just a hello note. I also bought other things for upcoming birthdays and Christmas.

I am a bargain shopper but these things make GREAT gifts. Does that mean I’m a bad friend? I hope not. It’s the thought that counts, right?

We went to Target afterward and we stopped by Starbucks. Mmm … haven’t had one in forever. All thanks to Britt for always having pictures of Starbucks on her page.

I had to decline spending time with some coworkers/friends since the rest of the night was spent spending time with the family. I rarely get that because our schedules are so busy so it was nice.

Happy Weekend!

Welcome to the Ray-Ban Club

August 1, 2013 by Mellie Dee 8 Comments

Happy August 1st!

I cannot believe July is already over. This time last year I was homesick for Hong Kong but excited about Alyssa and Greg’s wedding. And my first day at my big girl job was coming up. Now that it’s been almost a year a lot of things have definitely change. But that’s a post for another day.

IMG_20130730_193434

I just joined the Ray-Ban club. No more $5 sunglasses for me! Reason I decided to spend so freaking much on sunglasses is because I use my eyes so much for work and after work on computers. This is to ensure I get a least some protection.

This one is the RB3362 – 004/58 Cockpit Sunglasses. In other words, redesigned aviators. The lenses are smaller than regular sized aviators so they fit better for people with high cheekbones or those with smaller faces. (They’re so smart!) Plus I got mine polarized. Here’s a snippet of the difference between polarized sunglasses and non-polarized sunglasses:

Another valuable benefit they offer is almost complete protection against the sun’s horizontal glare, making the reflection of the sun almost unnoticeable for a clearer more defined vision. The intensity of the emission of sun waves is much higher than the scattered ones. Thus, making this kind of light harmful for the eyes and especially for those who are driving. The polarized lenses are used to block this intense light that is reflected from flat surfaces. The reason for this is that polarized sunglasses are made with vertical polarization, while the light reflected by the sun on flat surfaces is horizontally polarized. – via

Here’s a video on Polarized vs. Non-Polarized Sunglasses Lens Test. It’s not perfect but it’s a good indication of the difference.

I feel so grown up with them on, as dumb as that sounds.

No work tomorrow so it’s straight up Chinese Soap Opera night.

For those reading on Friday, Happy Friday!! 🙂

Baker’s Worst Nightmare

July 30, 2013 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

Saturday:

Michelle and I finally got to catch up about life, work, and of course, her wedding! A possible 2015. Dress is picked though and it looks LOVELY on her. L-O-V-E-L-Y. We had a late lunch date for over two hours at:

Zoe’s Kitchen
2643 Commercial Center Blvd
Ste 300
Katy, TX 77494
(281) 347-1017

Hummus with Pita Bread (Appetizer) – I wasn’t impressed with their hummus. It wasn’t grainy and perfectly smooth, but the taste wasn’t as flavorful as I’d hoped. The pita bread is pita bread. Nothing wrong there.

Grilled Vegetables (Side) – They probably made it with pats of butter on those bad boys … who knows. But whatever the case it was good. Is it worth the price for a size that small? No.

This place is like Panera Bread to me … but not as fancy. Will I come here again? Possibly. But do I love it enough to want to, probably not.

We said our goodbyes and I went home and took a glorious nap, waking up to a KitchenAid. YEP. You read that correctly. I am now an owner of a KitchenAid. Kenson and his parents got me one. I’ll let it sit in it’s box for a little bit until I can think of what to make.

IMG_20130727_203328

We headed off to Katie’s for an early birthday celebration. A wonderful Tres Leche cake from Whole Foods filled our tummies. Super creamy frosting and moist layers of cake. Just how a tres leche should be. Too sweet for my non-sweet tooth.

Sunday:

Went shopping and lunch with Mallory and Samantha. Mallory loves anything with skulls and Samantha loves anything that is red, white, and blue.

After a few hours of fun at the mall, I went home to use my computer to find out … it’s broken. What the eff, right? This one is my NEW one too. The one I just bought in December. I figured out a way to fix it so hopefully it works. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Monday:

IMG_20130729_211427

I made a coconut cake and a devil’s food cake for a coworker’s birthday but …

Tuesday (Today)

… upon taking it to my car, the coconut cake fell out of my hands and shattered on the floor. Worst. Day. Ever.

Baker’s worst nightmare is either the baked goods tasting bad, or dropping the baked goods. I did just that. *sigh*

Super long post but that’s what happens when your laptop fails on you.

Happy Tuesday, y’all.
