2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Rizzo’s 7th Birthday

October 4, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee, National Coffee Day, Flu Shot, 2nd Place Trivia Winner

Did you know Tuesday was National Coffee Day?! I was able to grab a White Chocolate Mint Latte at Corner Bakery after getting my flu shot at work. Then for the rest of the day, my heart was beating crazy.

I also won 2nd place from work’s Trivia which means $10 gift card to Amazon! Cha-ching. I felt smart for once.

My hair is growing crazy long. I need to trim it to keep it healthy but usually when I do a video call, I keep it in a bun so my coworkers were shocked at how long it was.

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Crackle Yankee Candle

Since it’s finally October, I am channeling my inner basic biyah. I lit my last pumpkin candle in my arsenal. I went to Yankee Candle online but couldn’t find their crackle candles. I only have a mint crackle left — someone find me some!

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | JJ & Mellie Dee Photoshoot | Chuy's with Mallory & Beth

Friday, I picked up Chuy’s and headed over to Mallory’s. Beth came over as well and we feasted! JJ and i had a photoshoot. He’s growing up to such a sweet, sweet kid.

JJ was on his iPad playing his games and Jacob came over and slapped his hand all over the screen. My heart melted seeing the way he was so calm and patient waiting for Jacob to stop. Instead of yelling, he just moved over just a little bit so Jacob couldn’t reach. What a lovely big brother.

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Rizzo's New Collar

Rizzo’s collar broke last Sunday and his replacement came in Thursday! The lady was SUPER nice and understanding as we had plans and I wanted to make sure it came in time for …

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Galveston Sunrise

watching the sunrise at Galveston Saturday morning. If you look at the top right picture close enough, you’d see the red sun popping up from the water.

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Galveston | Sissy & BIL Sunrise

The views. My heart. I love the picture I took of Sissy and BIL at the top. they cute sometimes. It was also awesome to see the Sun and Moon up at the same time.

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Galveston | Rizzo and Mellie Dee

In my head, this was my way of celebrating Rizzo’s birthday. It was so relaxing – I was able to get a lot of reading in. He didn’t love the water much but he loved running up and down the beach with me.

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 5k

He was able to do a 5k with me as it was the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 5k day. Running/walking on the beach is definitely killer on the legs but the burn the next day is worth it!

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Yumcha, Whataburger, Yummy Seafood

On our way home, we picked up Whataburger. I was able to try the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. It wasn’t spicy enough for me but my parents think it’s the spiciest one from a fast food restaurant. My thoughts, it’s not that great compared to Popeyes but better than Chick-fil-a.

We went home, showered, and relaxed a bit before going to HMart for groceries. Parents and June got Ten Seconds Noodle to go for lunch. I opted for Yummy Seafood (OF COURSE!). June and I also picked up boba from Yumcha.

We feasted while watching The Accountant. It was actually a very good movie in our opinon.

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Monat Haircare & Stryve Jerky from Trisha

I found my package in the mail. I had bought some Monat haircare for Mum’s birthday coming up and Trisha was sweet enough to stuff jerky with different flavours for me to try. She’s the sweetest! I hope Covid goes away so I can visit her and go on her boat! Rizzo thought the jerky was for him and wouldn’t leave it alone.

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Daily Walks with Rizzo

We’ve continued with our daily walks! Today’s Rizzo’s birthday and he did 3.5 miles! So proud of him. He is so toned!

2020 | Week 29 of Quarantine | Rizzo's 7th Birthday

I made him pup cakes and bought him some dog bone and donut treats. I also got him a pumpkin ice cream. Don’t worry though. He shared one pup cake with Rocky. The rest is saved for a later date. I need more puppy friends so I can give them some goodies too.

Rizzo’s taken a lot of naps today so it’s safe to say, he’s enjoying life.

I have things to look forward to the next few weeks so here’s to hoping work goes well — and fast.

2020 | Week 23 of Quarantine | Big Brothers Big Sisters Close and Match

My Big Brothers Big Sisters Match closed this week. She had to move and a new school means not being in the program anymore. It’s been a bummer. Although we didn’t have much in common we got along so well.

On Tuesday I had my reinterview and by Wednesday I was rematched. Our coordinator thinks we’re an even better match but we’ll have to wait and see how we pan out. I’m excited and hope this one will last.

2020 | Week 23 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee & Rizzo

Work is starting to move to Microsoft Teams which means the use of video might happen more. Top left was my look during a team meeting. My hair is so long. Told Sissy I’m going to see how long I can get it then donate it when I have to go back to the office. I have been trimming the dead ends but I might give in soon and chop it all off.

Rizzo loves sitting in the sun when I let him out during the afternoon. I’m guessing because he practically sleeps all day. His favourite is still snuggles with me. On good days he gets so close like this and warms my heart.

2020 | Week 23 of Quarantine | Chikfila, McDonald's, Pizza Hut

We’ve ordered out a few times. Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s (twice cuz we fatties), and Pizza Hut.

2020 | Week 23 of Quarantine | Home Cooking

I did do a lot of homecooking though. Working from home has big perks. Stuffed salmon and veggies is still my number one dish. Just wish I had some pilaf to complete it.

2020 | Week 23 of Quarantine | Houston Restaurant Week | Babin's | JJ

Since I was off Friday I went and picked up Babin’s Seafood for Houston Restaurant Week and headed over to Mallory’s. Beth came over as well. Their etouffee was so bomb. Their gumbo needs some help though. It tasted like muddy water with shrimp. There was no veggies like other gumbo’s I’ve had. Definitely not worth it.

JJ was busy the whole time I was there which means he’s growing up! Mallory have me some spiked iccees and test tube shots. The test tube is DELICIOUS! Super sweet but still good. We looked at houses online for me and joked after a few more test tubes, I’d be signing on the dotted line.

2020 | Week 23 of Quarantine | June's Birthday | Zoe's Kitchen

Saturday night, we celebrated June’s birthday early. Sissy and BIL came over with Zoe’s Kitchen. They ate at the kitchen table and we are in the living room. I opted to make myself a steak, veggies and mashed potatoes since I had to donate blood the next day. I did try their lentil soup, falafel and hummus though and all is ever as tasty.

We played Houseparty Uno and Drawing games before video calling Brudda to sing, cut the cake, and open presents.

2020 | Week 23 of Quarantine | Daily Walks

Walks are still going strong! My step goals keep going up and it’s getting harder to meet the goal during the week day but I push on. We see so many sunrise and sunsets these past few weeks that I’ve decided sunsets are my favourite.

Rizzo has always been great off the leash. We’ve been training Rocky to be off leash and he’s doing well. The main reason is because no one and nothing is around else he’d probably haul ass to whatever he sees.

2020 | Week 23 of Quarantine | Blood Donation MD Anderson

Today after our one hour walk, shower and a quick breakfast, I was off to donate blood. I was very worried I wouldn’t pass the temperature test since I usually run hot but all was well. I was in and out in about an hour. I got jipped. Mallory and her family all got tshirts for donating but I didn’t. It is a dang good shirt too! I guess I went too early and they didn’t have them ready. I’m still bummed but I’ve had bad luck for a while so nothing new.

This week is the last week for some folks at work. Not sure how it’ll go after they’re gone and new people start but I’m ready to take on the change!

2020 | Week 4 of Quarantine

2020 | Week 4 of Quarantine | Kim's Teahouse | Rizzo While I Work

Fourth week. You’d think I’d be tired of this life but I’m not. Rizzo also has started laying to where he can always view me. He’s also realized I’m not leaving and if the light is still on in my office but I walk away, he knows I’d come back so he doesn’t following me like he use to.

2020 | Week 4 of Quarantine | Gift to JJ

I sent two lucky three year olds, JJ and Emma, a presents so that the parents can have a little relax time. They are black papers where you scratch the surface and rainbowness shines. I heard from both parents that they love them so yay!! Maybe I should get some for Emmy.

2020 | Week 4 of Quarantine | Home Cooking

I’ve been cooking throughout the week a lot more since I have more time. Loving all my creations and hope to bake something for June soon as well.

2020 | Week 4 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee Unwashed Hair

Another thing I’ve been doing a lot, or not doing, is washing my hair. Hear me out. It’s gross but it’s not. I’ve washed my hair every single day since forever and after less than a day it’ll usually get all nasty. This has been a blessing being in quarantine to do what I’ve always wanted to. Skipping every other day or more of washing means less oil build up in the end. Here’s to hoping I can keep this up in the real world and do every other day.

2020 | Week 4 of Quarantine | Kim's Teahouse | Orleans Seafood Kitchen | Katy, Texas

Joy now is ordering food at the end of the week. Crawfish from Orleans Seafood Kitchen again because my favourite place still won’t deliver. Kim’s Teahouse because I needed a break from drinking water. I ordered grocery delivery again and put some alcohol in my cart so after a month of not drinking, I just might take a swig.

2020 | Week 4 of Quarantine | Crawfish from Gordon

Funny enough, Gordon and Patsy made crawfish. Timothy went to eat at their place and since I have a tiny cough, Timothy was nice enough to drop some off for me.

2020 | Week 4 of Quarantine | Diamond Painting, Mahjong, Rizzo While Ukulele

To pass time, I’ve completed my diamond painting! I love it so much and cannot wait to put it in my future music room (10 years from now). Sissy, Brudda, and BIL made an online account to try out online mahjong. It was actually not bad. Ukulele learning has been going well and Rizzo laying on my case makes my heart melt. I’m currently debating to get a kalimba or not. Currently in a collect-all-instruments mood.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Work from Home Rizzo

Work was horrible in the beginning of the week but it was nice getting Friday off even though everyone knows I have issues signing off. Turning around working on my secondary work laptop and seeing this face makes my heart so happy.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Rizzo and Ukulele

I took the plunge and finally got myself a ukulele, mostly because Brudda wants me to teach Emmy. It’s super easy since I already know guitar. Only thing I need to work on is getting my huge fingers to fit on the fret well enough. This came with a case, capo, electric tuner, extra strings, picks, strap and a little guide book – amazing! I also like that it’s not the usual hole in the middle so it gives it a little flair. I’m getting concert requests from friends like the college days with the guitar so we’ll see how comfortable I am.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Egg, Beet and Veggie Bake

I had time to cook lunch Friday and opted to use up some old vegetables lying around, zucchini, Brussels, and carrots. I added in beets and eggs all baked to perfection. This is definitely my easiest bake meal.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Orleans Seafood Kitchen | Katy, Texas | Door Dash

We decided to get crawfish for dinner. Mostly for me since everyone else had their own food. This is from Orleans Seafood House. They don’t have the usual flavour I love, just Cajun, but was still super flavourful, spicy, and cooked perfectly. The lemon garlic butter was perfect for the potatoes. Definitely putting that in my boils in the future!

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Rizzo Freshly Cut and Clean

Many people complained of Rizzo’s crazy hair so I went and trimmed him up and gave him a wash. Fresh and clean! He was so good and even let me do the bottom of his paws too.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Diamond Painting

Other than phone calls and video chats to keep busy, I jumped on the bandwagon with Diamond Painting. More like diamond placing. It’s actually very relaxing and I’m already more than halfway done and have another one waiting for me. I might share the end product once I finish.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Rizzo Watching Me Diamond Painting

This was Rizzo’s stages of watching me do this project. He’s so cute.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Tandoori Grill | Katy, Texas | UberEats

June and I have been obsessed with Tandoori Grill and ordered it AGAIN. We convinced Mum she had to try it so the outcome looks as if we ordered the whole store. They are awesome and added a ton of papadum when I asked for it – all for free! Love this restaurant and the fact that they’re not stingy with the servings too!

We’ve been told that quarantine life will last till May or even up to July. So far, the introverted me is okay with this life. Especially if Amazon stays open and we have enough alcohol to spray everything down, I’ll always be able to get my groceries and fun project stuff to fill the time.

I hope the rest of y’all are doing well.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3

February 21, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Breakfast Republic | San Diego, California

No alarms yet again. We were so comfy in our beds we had conversations through the walls before finally waking up to get ready and head to brunch at Breakfast Republic. It was a last minute find and we were not disappointed. The shrimp and grits were to die for and Amy loved her Crawfish and crab cake Benedict more today than yesterday. My favourite was seeing cute hard-boiled eggs chairs. So adorable.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Cute House | San Diego, California

We started our walk to Balboa Park and I ran into this beautiful house. California has such unique house designs that I’m super jealous about.

This was also the time where we decided to take an Uber for less than 1.2 miles when we didn’t see a sidewalk. We thought we made a mistake for doing so and the Uber driver even laughed a little. If wasn’t until we saw how many hilly ups and downs, twists and turns we would have had to go through to get to our destination. Amy swore I would have killed her or killed herself if we ended up walking it.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Balboa Park 1 | San Diego, California

Balboa Park has a lot of different museums which we walked into none. We looked at sidewalk vendors and took in the breathtaking views.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Balboa Park 2 | San Diego, California

This was my favourite building and shot. The mosaic on the building and detail took me away. Not to mention, the weather made it perfect.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Mattarello Pasta Class | San Diego, California

We were going to grab juices before heading to our pasta class but when the Uber showed up, we realized we would be late so we went straight to Mattarello’s instead.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Mattarello Pasta Class | San Diego, California | Process

The owners weren’t available to teach us due to a family emergency and having to fly back to Italy but our lovely instructor tried her best to fill in those shoes.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Mattarello Pasta Class | San Diego, California | Amy Mellie Dee

We had a lot of fun making a lot of different types of pastas. Apparently we were to take our pasta home and cook them to eat. Instead, someone else from San Antonio spoke up if anyone wanted to take theirs since they couldn’t cook it at the hotel. We raised our hands feeling the same and the instructor was nice enough to cook our raviolis and tortellinis and sauce them for us to try. Our other pastas went to other pasta makers to take home. I cannot wait to take my learning’s home. But first, someone buy me a pasta attachment for my KitchenAid. Kthanks.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Vitality Tap | San Diego, California

We went and got our juices. I opted for a smoothie and it was super refreshing. We sat outside searching for our next activity.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Le Parfait Paris | San Diego, California

We talked about getting pastries the whole trip and decided Le Parfait Paris was perfect. We were aiming to grab some pastries, eat them, and head to Little Italy. Instead we ended up staying there for almost two and a half hours in deep conversation.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Gaslamp Mardi Gras | San Diego, California

We decided Little Italy was a wash and to stay in Gaslamp instead. I wanted a little snack and Amy found a good paella place. We walked past some Mardi Gras decorated buildings but it’s definitely nothing like how New Orleans celebrates.

2020 San Diego Trip | Day 3 | Sevilia Restaurant & Tapas Bar | San Diego, California

We made it to Sevilla where we were told paella was sold out. I was super bummed and so we decided on getting our free Yelp check in appetizer sampler that the chef chooses (ceviche, potato concoction, and dates and blue cheese wrapped with bacon) and wine to start.

We heard paella was back in the table next to us and my heart was all smiles. We opted for the traditional one where it came with seafood, chicken and sausage as well as some cheese stuffed croquettes and brussel sprouts.

Amy loved her croquettes and I believe these were the best brussel sprouts all trip. The paella was the best decision ever and we both agree this entire meal was the best one overall.

When we were in our Uber the driver asked us how we like San Diego and the weather differences with Texas. Then he asks, “Are you enjoying all the wind in California?” To which I happily reply, “oh yeah I love it!” He asks a few more questions but I couldn’t hear and told him so. I hear him turn on the radio so I look over at Amy giving me a giant wtf face, unsure why. I realized I heard wrong when she says “oh no, I get drug tested”.

We’re back at the Airbnb watching Always Be My Maybe since Amy’s never seen it. I’m sure we’ll be heading to bed soon so bye bye for now!
