Homemade Moscow Mule

Sissy and BIL came over to Scruffy’s to watch the Superbowl tonight. Sissy made herself a Moscow Mule. She is fancy.

2018 Rizzo During the Superbowl

This was Rizzo during the whole game. He is a cutie!! He was on high alert to make sure I was never out of his sight though.

OG Tea | Sugar Land, Texas

The Bagel Cafe | Katy, Texas | Sunrise Bagel

Scruffy was nice enough to go out and grab our breakfast this morning at The Bagel Cafe. This doesn’t look appetizing but it was the best ever. Delicious, homemade bagels, fresh daily. This is a blueberry with sausage, egg, and cheese. Yum!

OG Tea | Sugar Land, Texas | Milk Tea

[2018] 034/365: Milk Tea Goodness

Scruffy left with the pups back home and I ventured out to OG Tea for some me time away from my usual home office. The lady working here is very personable. This place used to be called Rayley but they’ve updated their name and redecorated inside, change of owner I’m sure. It doesn’t look kiddish anymore and it feels comfortable to stay and work. I remember walking into this place when it was still Rayley and there were kids everywhere walking around barefoot. It seems much more classy now.

Too Much Food

February 2, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

99 Ranch | Katy, Texas | Milk Tea and Portuguese Egg Tart

Scruffy came over today. I made him Kimchi Soup Noodles and we headed to 99 Ranch so that he could pick some things up. I picked up a little snack for myself while we were there. Yum!

2018 | 033/365 | Cravin' Cajun | Katy, Texas | Crawfish and Shrimp with Potatoes and Corn

[2018] 033/365: Best Meal

Always a lover of crawfish and shrimp boils, we headed to Cravin’ Cajun mostly for me to get my fill. This place seems to be going downhill. Maybe it’s because it’s not in season but even the shrimp was overcooked. The flavour is still spot on though.

Texas Mesquite Grill | Katy, Texas | Original Burger with a side of Green Beans and Tasty AF Beer

Since Scruffy didn’t eat much, we went to Texas Mesquite Grill for him to get his burger. We told the server we were sharing but … we didn’t. I ate a few bites here and there but Scruffy polished it off as we both enjoyed one of our favourite beers, Saloon Door Tasty AF. Yum!

We seriously eat too much food lately. We want to go on a cruise but we both feel we need to lose weight beforehand. haha We’re not on the right track.

Babysitting Luna

2018 | 032/365 | Luna and Rizzo on the Stairs

[2018] 032/365: Two Little Puppies On The Stairs

I brought Luna home last night and she’s been having a ball. Literally. She’s always with a ball in her mouth. When she’s not though, she’s bugging Rizzo or Rocky or taking a nap. This girl has so much energy. I’m excited for her to be calm. She would be the best pup.

RECIPE | Harissa Hot Sauce

January 31, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 | 031/365 | All The Peppers For The Harissa Hot Sauce

[2018] 031/365: Peppers for Days

Guys, look how gorgeous these peppers are. Red jalapeños, green jalapeños, and serranos!

Harissa Hot Sauce

Jamie shared the recipe for Harissa Hot Sauce with me and gave me permission to share with the world. You can find the recipe at the bottom of the post.

Rizzo, Poolside Chillin'

Rizzo chilled poolside while I read my book. I was joyous that I get chances like this. It reminds me of being back in college, sitting on the balcony, studying. Soak it up, Riz!

La Michoacana Natural | Rosenberg, Texas

After Scruffy and I picked up the goodies to make the hot sauce we saw this little ice cream shop, La Michoacana Natural at the red light and decided to stop by to check it out.

La Michoacana Natural | Rosenberg, Texas | Oreo Cream Ice Cream, Pine Nut Ice Cream, and Fried Wheat Dough

Oreo Cream Ice Cream, Pine Nut Ice Cream, and Fried Wheat Dough

I think I’ve found my favourite ice cream flavour. Have you ever heard Pine Nut Ice Cream? I could have heard wrong, but the pink ice cream bar was heaven. It was so dang good that I bought a 16 oz home! I’ve already told Scruffy I want to go back. The only problem is that the parking sucked. This little shop has been here for fifteen years though so it’s doing something right!

Harissa Hot Sauce
Course: Dips & Sauces
Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 lb red jalapeño peppers
  • 1/4 lb serrano peppers
  • 1/4 lb green jalapeño peppers
  • 1 bulb of garlic
  • 2 tbsp caraway seeds
  • 2 tbsp coriander grounded
  • 1 tbsp cumin grounded
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil + a little more to seal jar
Preparations
  1. For the peppers, using gloves, slice the tops off, then in half. Discard the white membrane and some of the seeds as desired.

  2. In a blender, add peppers, garlic, caraway seeds, coriander, cumin, salt, and 2 tbsp of olive oil. Blend into a salsa consistency.

  3. Pour into a jar and add a little olive oil on top to seal the jar.

  4. Store in the fridge and after each use, add a little bit of olive oil to reseal the jar.

Notes

*Use gloves. The peppers will burn and send you to the emergency room!

**The olive oil will help keep the hot sauce fresher for longer.
