Roll Me Into Bed For A Food Coma

February 23, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Jarro Cafe | Houston, Texas | Pastor Tacos

Scruffy came over with Luna this morning and after a few ball throws and work on the laptop, we headed to Jarro Cafe for the beloved tacos we’ve missed so much.

Freedom & Company | Houston, Texas

Afterwards, we headed over to Freedom & Company for a haircut. Go check her out! She’s pretty great and listens to your opinons.

Himalaya Restaurant & Catering | Houston, Texas

Since Himalaya Restaruant was close by, we had to try it out – mainly because everyone says it’s the best!

Himalaya Restaurant & Catering | Houston, Texas | Lamb Biryani

Lamb Biryani [tender pieces of lamb cooked in a magical blend of dry whole spices and then layered with fragrant Basmati rice. This is the Indo-Pakistani version of the Spanish Paella] | $12.92

This wasn’t up my alley. Scruffy liked it but I wasn’t a big fan.

Himalaya Restaurant & Catering | Houston, Texas | Side Dishes

This side dish with a dipping sauce that Scruffy says is chutney was free. We didn’t really touch it.

Himalaya Restaurant & Catering | Houston, Texas | Garlic Nan

Garlic Nan | $2.99

This is bomb. I wish it was as fluffy as the tandoori nan but it was still amazing mostly because of the garlic. YUM!

Himalaya Restaurant & Catering | Houston, Texas | Pre-Set Lunch Special

Pre-Set Lunch Special Combo [delicious platter that changes daily: incles all of the following – tender boneless chicken curry, boneless lamb curry, grilled or dry appetizer, dal or vegetable (their choice), steamed basmati rice, and a fresh tandoori nan] | $13.75

This was my favourite. I liked the lamb curry, vegetable curry, rice and the nan. Other than that, I was meh about it.

I think Bombay Grill is still probably my favourite Indian food.

Kirby Ice House | Houston, Texas

After being home for a while, we headed out to Kirby Ice House for Saleh’s early birthday celebration.

2018 | 054/365 | Kirby Ice House | Houston, Texas | Frosted Rose and Beer

[2018] 054/365: Out After 9 PM

Scruffy and I are never out late anymore. Not too sure if it’s because we live in the suburbs or if we’re just both lazy and over it but I thought we should commemorate this. This frozen rose drink was bomb. I loved it but not so much the price.

The Waffle Bus | Houston, Texas

They had two food trucks there but we ended up picking The Waffle Bus.

The Waffle Bus | Houston, Texas | Chicken Thunder Fries

Chicken Thunder Fries [buttermilk fried chicken bites on top of seasoned waffle fries with spicy mayo and ancho chile honey butter] | $10

We got our usual and scarfed it down.

It was nice to see and meet other people, hang out and talk with them about things that mean nothing but we soon bid farewell since we still had to drive back and the pups were waiting for us.

Please roll me into bed now. I’m ready to be in a food coma after today’s foods.

2018 Chinese New Year’s Eve

February 15, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Laikh House Gourmet Cafe | Houston, Texas

Scruffy and I went to Laikh House Gourmet Cafe for lunch since there were such great ratings.

Laikh House Gourmet Cafe | Houston, Texas | All American Burger with Parmesan Fries

All American Burger [beef, American cheese, mayo, mustard, pickle, tomato, onions, lettuce] | $5.99 • Parmesan Fries | $3.99

We shared the burger and fries and were quite surprised to find that it wasn’t bad. I was even more surprised when Scruffy said he’d come back.

Laikh House Gourmet Cafe | Houston, Texas | Honeymoon Latte

Honeymoon Latte | $3.50 • Almond Milk | $0.50

The guy did forget to serve me my coffee but when I walked to the counter, he remembered before I had to say anything and had it out soon after. It was actually not bad but not sweet enough for my taste.

The only complaints I have is mostly that the floors were sticky and there were sewer-ish smells when you walk in. Not enough to deter us though.

2018 | 046/365 | Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner

[2018] 046/365: Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner

Now that my Dad’s retired, he wants to go all out and be more traditional so ten dishes for five people. Everyone helped out in making this dinner happen. We have SO much leftover. It was delicious though and I was so happy to see that Scruffy ate more than he usually does.

We’re going to watch Megan Leavey together after the adults get home from buying flowers. haha

It’s been a great day.

Eating Out Alone

February 12, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 | 043/365 | Pho Tau Bay Vietnamese Restaurant | Houston, Texas | Eating Alone

[2018] 043/365: Eating Out Alone

Guys, I did it again! I went out and ate at a restaurant all by myself. The first time I did it was a La Madeline which I actually blogged about! It was two years ago and I still remember that experience.

I was busy running errands all day and decided to grab some food before my appointment at the Subaru Dealership. I chose Pho Tau Bay Vietnamese Restaurant. It was a completely different experience than La Madeline. Here, I didn’t hide behind a book. People were not on their laptops or studying. Here, everyone was eating and talking with their mates.

I was a little weary when I walked in but I persevered and actually enjoyed my meal by myself, without distractions. I saw a guy from Acura eating by his lonesome as well and we exchanged awkward glances. haha

I will say that this isn’t the best pho place, the broth was good but the meat was not up to par nor was the eggrolls. The price was too high for the amount of food and there was a lot of miscommunications.

Subaru Dealership | Kindle and Coffee

I was happy to get through four and a half of my chapters before my car was ready to go. Is it weird that I actually like waiting at the dealership so that I can read? Ever since I got a Kindle, life has been great being able to pull it out whenever I want.  #thanksboyfriend

Lunch Date With My Boo

2018 | 042/365 | The Halal Guys | Gryo Platter and Baba Ganoush

Gyro Platter and Baba Ganoush

[2018] 042/365: Lunch Date With My Boo

I met up with Scruffy at The Halal Guys for a late lunch before heading to WalMart to pick up something for Jameel’s birthday. We opted for candy, every little kids favorite and not so much the parents.

After the party, I went home to have dinner with my parents and am now rewatching a TVB series, Tiger Cubs.

Relaxing before bed. #check

Catching Up With Old Co-Workers

February 9, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 | 040/365 | Saeed’s Mediterranean Grill | Houston, Texas | Kefta Kabob Plate

Kefta Kabob Plate [grilled ground beef, onion, parsley, spices and two sides: spicy hummus and eggplant casserole] | $12.99

Met up with my old co-workers today for lunch at Saeed’s Meditteranean Grill and got a free meal from Erin! Thanks, Erin! One of my favourite meals is Mediterranean so I was super excited to stuff my face! I got the eggplant casserole for the first time today and it was THE BOMB. Way better than baba ganoush!

Beans Cafe Coffeehouse | Houston, Texas | Iced Coffee

After many hours with Angie, Erin, and Paola, Juhi and I bid them all farewell since they had to go back to work. Juhi and I went to Beans Cafe Coffeehouse for a long coffee chat and she was nice enough to pay for my coffee. It was nice to talk to her one-on-one. It felt like it was when she was sitting next to me! I’m excited I get to see her again Tuesday night!!

After you spend so much time with them daily and having it taken away in a blink of an eye is tough so I’m glad I got to see them again and catch up with them.
