2018 Houston Restaurant Week | The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas

August 3, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

James Coney Island | Katy, Texas | Texas Chili Dog

Scruffy came over with Luna after I got off work. We decided to hit up our first Houston Restaurant Week place tonight but since our reservation was not until eight pm we decided on a light snack at James Coney Island. This is the first time that I’ve been here and I was surprisingly not as bad as I thought it be.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas

Afterwords we chilled at home for a bit before heading to The Melting Pot.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Fat Tire & Wine Flight

He started off with a flat tire while I went for a wine flight. The one flying consisted of four different wines to pair with our four courses. For the cheese, a Meiomi, Pinot Noir, California. For the salad, a Starborough, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand. For the entree, a Portillo, Malbec, Valle de Uco, Argentina. For the chocolate, a Luccio, Moscato d’ Asti, Italy.

My favourite wine was the salad wine while Scruffy enjoyed the entree one. Overall it was a great experience because I’ve never had a different one pair for every course before.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Loaded Baked Potato Cheddar

Her first entrée was the loaded baked potato cheddar cheese fondue which comes with cheddar cheese blend potatoes, garlic and wine seasoning, bacon, green goddess, and scallions. It came with bread, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers and apples.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Scruffy Cheese Pull

Look at that cheese pull!

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | The Melting Pot House & Caesar

Our second course was a type of salad. I went with the melting pot house which came with romaine iceberg mix, cheddar, eggs, tomatoes, croutons, with a white balsamic dressing. Scruffy opted for the Caesar salad. Both, we felt was just a filler but nice to have since there wasn’t much vegetable overall.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | The Classic Entree

We were starting to get full but we pushed through to the third course. We decided on the mojo broth, a Caribbean seasoned bouillon with distinctive garlic and citrus flair which was super limey in our opinion when the broccoli and mushrooms came out. We both got the classic entrée which came with certified Angus beef sirloin, shrimp, Memphis style dry rub pork, herb crusted chicken breast, and teriyaki marinated sirloin. The told us how long to cook everything and it all tasted fantastic.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Flaming Turtle Chocolate Fondue

We were stuffed to the brim and didn’t actually finish every single meal that we had on our dish. But we knew that we had to try the flaming turtle chocolate fondue which is a combination of milk chocolate, caramel and candied pecans flambeed table side. The strawberries and chocolate covered  marshmallows were my favorite.

[2018] 215/365: Date Night with My Mustache Boo

I’m glad we finally had a romantic night out and we both got to experience a new way of eating together. Scruffy said he’d come back for the cheese course whereas, I am okay never coming back. It was delicious but definitely not worth the money.

Now it’s time to snuggle up for some Shameless. Night everyone.

Treebeards | Houston, Texas

Free Chobani at Work

Whenever there’s no free breakfast at work we have yogurts and bars and poptarts to pick from. I usually go for the Chobani yogurt but that could only mean one thing …

2018 | 214/365 | Treebeards | Houston, Texas | Chicken Fried Chicken

[2018] 214/365: Delicious Comfort Food

… I’m usually starving before lunchtime and I chow down on some almonds that I have stashed at my desk. I was extremely happy that I was invited to go to lunch at Treebeards with Noah and Prisila.

I have found my favorite lunch place near work. I mean I don’t know if it’s my favorite but it sure is one of the best things that I’ve eaten here. It is southern comfort food and I ordered the chicken fried chicken, gravy on the side, with green beans and mashed potatoes. It came with a roll which had butter sandwiched in between and I even ordered a yellow cake with chocolate frosting for my coworker whose birthday is this weekend.

We ate, we had laughter, and soon it was back to work. Having that break was actually pretty nice. It made work go by a little bit faster and soon enough I was on my way home.

Tomorrow is date night with Scruffy and I cannot wait! We will be attacking one of the Houston Restaurant Week restaurants!

Me, Myself, and Kindle

Wetzel Pretzel Jalapeno Dog

After work I ran MANY errands. I haven’t had so much time to myself in such a long time. But truthfully, once I’m out, I rather stay out because once I’m home, I never want to leave. I picked up a Wetzel Pretzel Jalapeno Dog once I got to the mall. I’ve always wanted to get one and eat it while I shopped and I finally did. Someone, please tell me where I can buy a bulk of that dog. It was SO juicy and delicious.

2018 | 194/365 | The Pho Shack | Sugar Land, Texas | Kindle

[2018] 194/365: Alone Time with My Kindle

After my errands and shopping, my stomach was ready for a full meal. It’s been a while since I sat down in a public place, ate and read a book because I’m all alone. I actually enjoy it a lot. I went through one and a half chapters. So so nice and I had a lot leftover, per usual when I eat pho.

Churrasco's | Sugar Land, Texas

Later in the evening, Scruffy and I went to Churrasco’s. He just got some dental work done so he had to opt for soup. Luckily his other side worked and he was able to chew on some of my meal and more. I have so much leftover as well. Now I have two meals to finish.

Tomorrow’s going to be a long day but I’m excited to see little Peyton!

Date Night with Scruffy

Peli Deli | Houston, Texas

Work has been AMAZING since I now hang out with nineteen year olds. I’m not even kidding. I went to lunch with the three of them to Peli Deli today.

Peli Deli | Houston, Texas | Curry Chicken Plate and Wings

Natalia and I’s meals of their wings and curry chicken with Mac and cheese and mushrooms. Everything was delicious. I wished a Peli Peli was close by since they have better options but this satisfied me enough.

Gyu-Kaku Japanese Barbecue Restaurant | Houston, Texas

After work Scruffy and I met up for dinner at Gyu-Kaku Japanese Barbecue Restaurant.

Gyu-Kaku Japanese Barbecue Restaurant | Houston, Texas | A La Carte Style

It’s basically Korean Barbecue but with different cuts of meat and flavour. We ordered two different types of meat then a lunch menu with three different other types of meat that came with a salad and miso soup. We upgraded to the garlic rice and added zucchini and mushrooms and beef tounge.

Gyu-Kaku Japanese Barbecue Restaurant | Houston, Texas | This Grill Is On Fire

Burn, baby, burn. The only complaint was that their fire burned on one side and left the other flameless so things cooked unevenly. Scruffy was a trooper and I didn’t have to cook much this time. Instead, he served me which made me feel like a queen.

Gyu-Kaku Japanese Barbecue Restaurant | Houston, Texas | Beef Tounge

My favourite was the beef tounge. My goodness. I can’t even describe just how amazing it was. It’s really rare for me to find beef tounge, not that I’m always in search of it, but when I see it, usually when it’s grill your own, I’m always down.

2018 | 192/365 | Gyu-Kaku Japanese Barbecue Restaurant | Houston, Texas | Lady M's Green Tea Millie Crepe with Ice Cream

Lady M’s Green Tea Millie Crepe with Ice Cream | $10

[2018] 192/365: Lady M’s

This has been a very popular dessert as long as I can remember. So popular that Brudda got it shipped from New York for SIL’s 30th birthday celebration in Dallas so I just had to try it when I saw it on the menu. Scruffy’s not that big of a fan with matcha but he actually tried it and ate two bites before he called it quits. I on the other hand, though delicious, did not think it was worth the $10 price tag but glad I finally got to cross that off the list.

Astros vs Athletics | World Series Championship Replica Ring

The Astros vs Athletics tickets I won from work a few weeks ago was finally used tonight. Club seats, which made me feel very fancy. To top it off we received replicas of the World Series Championship rings. It was very heavy and sparkly.

Astros vs Athletics | Free Pluckers

Although the game wasn’t that great, upon exiting we received free Pluckers. Ain’t no complaining here. Now we just have to find a time to go.

It’s been a fabulous day of eating and just spending time with Scruffy outside of our houses where we eat somewhere new and do an activity.

Now it’s time to get ready for bed. Night, y’all!

Family Day in Waco, Texas

May 26, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Uber Eats Breakfast Tacos

Sissy and I ordered breakfast tacos through Uber Eats while everyone ate kolaches Mum brought up from Houston.

George's Restaurant and Catering | Waco, Texas

After Emmy had her socializing class, we all headed to Waco. We had plans to check out Magnolia Table but due to the long wait, we headed to George’s Restaurant & Catering instead.

George's Restaurant and Catering | Waco, Texas | Food

Dad and I shared our foods while Sissy and I shared our drink. The food wasn’t bad. I would opt out of getting the corn though. That was our least favourite.

Dr Pepper Museum | Waco, Texas

We then headed to the Dr Pepper Museum since Mum is their “biggest fan”. She even ordered it with her lunch, per usual. The museum, though small, was a bit fun. I liked that they had some interactive things for the viewers to take a part of.

Dr Pepper Museum | Waco, Texas | Complimentary Drink

We all got complimentary drinks. I went with the Sunkist. I drank a couple sips before Mum downed the rest.

Legends Thai Cuisine & Kung Fu Tea | Plano, Texas

We were going to stop by somewhere else too but decided to head back to Dallas. Sissy, SIL, and I played with Emmy while Brudda, Mum, and Dad went to Walmart and then picked up foods from Kung Fu Tea and Legends Thai Cuisine. This is one of the best Thai places I’ve had in America. It’s spicy and they give you so much for your buck!

2018 | 146/365 | Rockets vs Warriors | Game 6

[2018] 146/365: Game 6 Rockets vs Warriors

Though I’m extremely happy we had an amazing day with the family, my happiest was when I realized I finally get to watch the Rockets game. I haven’t been able to see any since I don’t have cable. Sadly, they are losing right now. Come on, Rockets, push on through!! Sigh …
