Hallacas

2018 | 356/365 | Hallacas

[2018] 356/365: Hallacas

I finally had time to make my Hallacas! They are SO pretty compared to tamales. When it comes to comparing the taste though, I’m not able to. They are so different in texture and flavour. I was taken aback by the olives but other than that I thought it was delicious! I have my fingers crossed that Salim follows through and save me a few he’s making with his family. If I have those I can make a better judgement.

Designated Gift Wrapper

I’m pretty much the designated gift wrapper in my family. I remember wrapping my own gifts when I was younger so I was never surprised when I opened it. It’s better now. They just throw me everyone else’s gifts instead.

2018 | Christmas Gift from Liliana

Liliana sent me a Christmas present! And I love it!! Thank you so much! Emmy helped me unwrap my presents and she couldn’t stop playing with the cup.

Pedis and Tamales

Wine and Pedis with Mallory

Work was a little whrilwind. Not many people were getting work done since many were on vacation and sat talking, mostly.

After work I met Mallory to get pedis. She then went to pick up JJ and I met her at her house.

2018 | 355/365 | Homemade Tamales and Salsa

[2018] 355/365: Homemade Tamales and Salsa

John came home with two dozen chicken tamales and a dozen dessert tamales as well as salsa made by someone at his work. I was drooling because I’ve been wanting tamales!

They were super delicious with the home made salsa! The dessert tamales were not a bit and I didn’t feel well eating that. More chicken tamales please!

I am really hoping I will learn how to make tamales but lately people have been telling me Hallacas are way better, a Venezuelan tamale. I have one in my fridge not yet eaten but if that’s better then I’ll be aiming to make that instead. Haha

Indianola | Houston, Texas

Downtown Views and Lunch

Today at work, I spilled the beans. I spilled them once everything is finalized though! I went out to lunch with Salim, Fahad, Vicky, and Vicky’s friend. We we’re going to go to Flynn Hall but it was packed so to the Conservatory it was. It was a windy walk but it was nice to get away.

2018 | 354/365 | INDIANOLA

[2018] 354/365: Indianola

After work Sissy, BIL, and I went to Indianola to celebrate some exciting stuff. Apparently they recently opened and are owned by the same people as Coltavarie. I will say that this place is way better than Coltavarie. Everything was so dang delicious. My favourite was definitely their lamb. I would go back just for that!

One more day of work until it’s Christmas break!! Or in my world, a long weekend. Haha

Familiar Places and Faces

2018 | 353/365 | Lunch and Good News

[2018] 353/365: Lunch at a Familiar Place

I have exciting news that cannot be shared yet! But I will once everything is finalized. I also had lunch in a familiar place.

Other than that work has been very tedious but I’m getting so much done lately since Prisila has been taking care of the kids more, giving me more time to focus on my deadlines.

Couple of days left before it’s Christmas break! Eek! Can’t wait to see Emmy!

Heights Houston with Erin

Hickory Hollow | Houston, Texas | Chicken Fried Steak with Erin

I met Erin at her place after work where we caught up for a few hours before heading to Hickory Hollow. John was working so she ended up bringing him food back. The chicken fried steak are the size of our faces and then some. I wouldn’t say this is the best I’ve ever had. Probably The Black Bear Diner beats them with their thick juicy steak where the breading doesn’t fall off.

Waiting for the Train to Pass

As we were walking back to her apartment and me to my car we got stopped. The train literally started right as we were about to cross. We couldn’t believe our luck. Fortunately it was only less than ten minutes long and didn’t stop like it usually does.

[2018] 352/365: Heights Houston

The view from their rooftop parking. It is so gorgeous but with the tracks being so close I wouldn’t want to live here. Loudness and always getting stuck. No bueno. But the view …

I’m hoping to move out in the next year but we’ll see how things go.
