2020 New Year Resolutions

December 31, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2019 Best Nine on Instagram

My top nine filled with family, friends, and travels. What more could I ask for?

I’m currently hanging out with Mallory, John, and Trey to ring in the new year. Recap to come. Until then …

Recap of 2019 New Year Resolutions

  • Refocus on health and fitness – I failed on this. Mentally, I’m healthier but physically, I could do better. I did lose weight but it’s never enough. Since BBBS gave us free YMCA and work gives us $250 a year on fitness, I’ll hopefully be putting it to use this coming year.
  • Read, Read, Read! – my Goodreads stats are below. I made a vow to read twelve books by the end of the year. I freaked out when June came around and I had only finished three. I was so behind but by the end of August, I completed my twelve and it’s been a bit stagnant since.
2019 Goodreads Recap
  • Travel somewhere new – Pennsylvania (x2), New Jersey, Marble Falls, Ohio, Montgomery, Arizona, Midland, Denver
  • Save money for a new place – I’m still working on this though I will say I am doing great but the fear of having to pay for so much is a little frightening to me.

My 2020 New Year Resolutions

  • Focus on health and fitness
  • Read my usual 12 books a year
  • Travel more
  • Save money for a new place
  • Continue building strong friendships

The same goals that have made me mentally happier this year so I will continue them, plus one.

Music | Save Myself by Ed Sheeran

December 29, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

It’s crazy how much a year can change a person. 2018 was pretty rough. I wasn’t sure why I had such dark thoughts. I didn’t know what I was going through other than feeling as if I was floating through the days and the days started to blur together. I tried cutting myself off from everyone at the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 to stop hurting those around me. For those that wouldn’t let me, I acted like I was okay until I couldn’t anymore. It was selfish and I’m sorry.

I had all of 2019 to reflect on what went wrong; I put myself first and promised to focus on myself. My goals and dreams have changed and although they might still never come true, I’m learning to be okay with it.

Before the year closes, I want to thank those for all the silent phone calls and car rides, conversations, and hangouts, for sticking by me when I said I just needed time and space and giving it to me, yet being there when I reached out, for believing in me when I stopped believing in myself, for standing by me as I found myself again, as I made myself mentally healthier. Thank you.

Mahal kita.

I gave all my oxygen to people that could breathe
I gave away my money and now we don’t even speak
I drove miles and miles, but would you do the same for me?
Oh, honestly?

…

I gave you all my energy and I took away your pain
‘Cause human beings are destined to radiate or drain
What line do we stand upon ’cause from here looks the same?
And only scars remain

…

Life can get you down so I just numb the way it feels
I drown it with a drink and out-of-date prescription pills
And all the ones that love me they just left me on the shelf
No farewell
So before I save someone else, I’ve got to save myself
And before I blame someone else, I’ve got to save myself
And before I love someone else, I’ve got to love myself

Flu Shots, Mimosas, and You

December 28, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Finn is going to be born soon so Brudda asked us all to get flu shots so Mum and I went and got ours this morning. Work gave them out for free but since I was getting Lasik at that time, I wasn’t allowed to get the shot. I’m glad I got pretty good insurance now so my shot was free, unlike last year.

I grabbed some wines and snacks and took Mum home. Then I headed over to Mallory’s. Leah was coming over for a visit again so we got some girl time in.

Mint + Dark Chocolate KitKat

Anyone that knows me knows I love KitKats. I saw this Mint + Dark Chocolate combo and had to get it. It’s probably now my favourite KitKat, other than the BigKat of course. It’s so good, I had to write about it.

Mimosas and JJ

Mallory, Leah, and I had mimosas with fresh-squeezed orange juice by John. Yum! It wasn’t as sweet as the store-bought juice but still super delicious. JJ had fun with his new toolset he got for Christmas. Maybe he’ll be a little builder when he’s older.

Mallory & Mellie Dee Color Street New Year Nails

Mallory and I put on new Color Street nails, new year style with the sparkles. It is definitely cheaper doing this than getting nails done by a professional. I do miss the pampering though.

John took JJ to go play at the park while we girls and Jacob watched two episodes of season 2 of You. It’s much gorier and disturbing this season but so far, so good.

Alicia's Mexican Grille | Katy, Texas | DoorDash

We ended up ordering DoorDash from Alicia’s Mexican Grille. The fajitas were very good, as well as the guacamole. I loved that they gave chips and salsa as well which some places don’t do when you order to go. The downer was the soup. Although it was good, I wish that they put the rice on the side rather than in it. It also needed a little more spice. Mallory liked it though since it was very mild. Overall, not a bad experience. We were just happy that the food made it to us and in a timely matter.

I’ve been working on a project for Finn’s room and my fingers are crossed they come out okay! Maybe if it does, I’ll share it with you all.

Jollibee with Noah & Joel

December 27, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Jollibee | Houston, Texas | Noah & Joel

I finally met up with Noah & Joel today for a super late lunch at Jollibee. It’s been a long time since I’ve been and it’s easily become Noah and I’s go-to place when we can’t figure something out.

Still delicious as ever and bought a lot of extras so my family can have some. They were in love as well. I wish they’d make one closer to Katy so I can get it more often. But then again, it’s probably a good idea that they don’t.

I finally got my ski pants back from Joel after a year later and Noah finally gave me my pottery that we did together half a year ago. It’s crazy how much time has passed but it doesn’t feel any different. I’m hoping I can hold on to this friendship because I love watching them grow up!

Afterward, I ran some errands and went home for a guitar jam session before Katie, John, Joanna, Katrina, Jasmine, and Timothy came over for dinner. They mostly came over to play with the pups. They’re still a bit afraid but hopefully as they get older, they won’t be scared of them.

Godiva Dark Chocolate Ganache Heart | Marriage Superstition

One of Mum’s coworker’s daughter got married and there’s an old Chinese superstition where you eat the offering and you can be next. Mum joked I should eat some but little does she know, I’ll probably eat the whole damn bag because they’re actually one of my favourites. It makes me laugh that a couple of hearts and Chinese word makes it “blessed”.

Soul Food and Makeup

December 26, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Yo Mama's Soul Food | Houston, Texas

Priscilla and I finally had our catch up today! I went to pick her up from her work and we went to Yo Mama’s Soul Food Restaurant. I haven’t seen her in months so it was nice to catch up with everything. And I mean everything. It’s crazy how much can change in just a few months.

Yo Mama's Soul Food | Houston, Texas | Meat Loaf, Pork Chop, Oxtail, Green Beans, Cabbage, Mac & Cheese, Sweet Potato, Cornbread

The food wasn’t what we expected. We thought it’d be better but it just didn’t meet our expectations. I felt the sides tasted better overall and she didn’t feel the sides were great. Luckily we went next door to the Mexican mart and got some chicharrones to make up for it.

After dropping her off, I braved the malls all by myself to do returns. It’s crazy how many people go to the malls the day after Christmas! I was even able to buy a pair of heels for work which I am super excited about!

Full Face of Makeup

I was cleaning out my makeup and started playing with it. This is a full face of makeup and I’m surprised how lightweight my foundation is. It’s also probably the reddest lips I’ve ever had and I don’t think I’m a fan so that’s definitely going in the trash. I need help putting on lips because you can see the unevenness and the lip gloss on the edge of my lips. HAHA And my brows, don’t get me started on my brows.

Time to wash it all off and take a shower and relax.

P.S. I need more of these pajamas. They are SO freaking comfy.
