Happy Thanksgiving!

November 24, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

It’s my blog’s first Thanksgiving!! Smile

I am safely in Houston as of 10am. It’s great to be back.

Home Sweet Home.

I was thinking of doing a very short “What I’m Thankful” post so here goes.

Family

We fight, we argue … it’s normal and pretty much inevitable. With that aside, I love them with all my heart. They are the only ones that will stay by you no matter what because that’s what family is. I’m happy I’m with every single one of them tonight. Without them, it won’t be right.

I’m also thankful that I get to spend so much time with my brother these past few days and upcoming days. I rarely get to see him so it’s really a special treat.

And for my brother’s girlfriend, and sister’s boyfriend. We don’t have that weird awkwardness that some families get when their significant others are around. We can joke and laugh and have a good time.

Family also counts for the dogs: Rocky, Pluto, and Krypto. I love and miss them so much when they’re not around.

Blog

I’m very happy I’ve made this blog. It’s been my outlet for pretty much petty things. But it’s also made me happier. For a long while I’ve been stuck in, I wouldn’t say depression, but sadness. Everything wasn’t going right and I felt everyone I trusted would stab me in the back. I’ve been told I need to not let people use me and find better friends.

Once I started this blog, I’ve been happier. I’ve “met” people I would have never met but they (YOU) have motivated me. I have fell off the wagon but you’re still there and never left. And I thank you. I know it’s not a reason to say I’m busy so I haven’t ran … but I know I’ll start again soon. Promise.

Thank you for reading and being there for me. You guys mean a lot and has helped me when no one else could because sometimes, strangers are better at understanding you when they don’t even know you!

Those are just a few things I’m thankful for. Winking smile Don’t want to bore y’all too much.

Hope you all enjoy Thanksgiving and don’t worry about eating a little more than you planned.

Happy Birthday Brother!

November 24, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

It was my brother’s birthday yesterday … one of the reasons I went to Dallas.

Dude … look at this car Jenny and I passed on the way to Dallas Tuesday night.

2011-11-22 17.22.51

Can’t read that? I’ll help you out. It says “I <3 Gym”. Jenny asked if he was in shape … I laughed so loud.

My brother’s birthday celebration started at 2:30pm yesterday.

We started out with food in the tummy!

2011-11-23 14.36.21

Doan Restaurant
3530 West Walnut Street
Garland, TX
(972) 494-5213

I didn’t get any pictures of my food but I got the Korean BBQ | $7.50. It was delicious. They remodeled and made it bigger so it has to be good!

Then we went shopping for a good three hours or so. I bought nothing. It felt good to not use money.

We then went for my brother’s birthday dinner at:

2011-11-23 19.50.48

Mr. Wok
2600 14th Street
Plano, TX
(972) 881-1888
www.mr-wok.com

2011-11-23 20.04.04

We started off with the Peking Duck. For this dish, you had to preorder it since it’s high demand and it takes a while to make.

The dude is slicing up the duck right at our table! Smile

270_2

All excited. Ugh … need to start weight loss NOW. Sad smile

2011-11-23 20.07.39

This it what it looks like when it’s done. YUM!

2011-11-23 20.02.032011-11-23 20.17.50

This goes with the duck. It’s Hoisin Sauce and shredded green onions with a type of bread. Mmmm.

2011-11-23 20.19.27

Mmmm … and you make a sandwich out of it!! Delicious! This dish is very popular for big dinners … or at least to me and my family so it was much needed and much deliciousness … Hmm … weird word choices. Winking smile

2011-11-23 20.12.08

They then take the leftovers of the duck back and fry it and mix in some kind of vegetables. Yum. It’s very fattening but so good. Winking smile

2011-11-23 20.06.392011-11-23 20.09.06

There was also fried rice, asparagus with beef and onions,

2011-11-23 20.09.312011-11-23 20.11.14

curry onions and chicken, and pad thai.

2011-11-23 20.18.00

It was a lot of food …

2011-11-23 20.46.13

and we ate it all!

747443

We had apple pie with ice cream as a birthday cake. Mmm … yums!

724

Then we played a board game my brother got as a gift from a friend. It’s called Quelf. (Qu –elf). Let’s just say, I kept calling it something else the whole night. Whoops!

P.S. I won! Winking smile

It was a fun day and night but we had to cut it short for our roadtrip back home.

Freedom

November 23, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Whoo!

Freedom came to me at 3:10pm!

He let us out 5 minutes early.

Jenny came and picked me up from school so we could go straight to our destination.

Sadly, she forgot something so we had to swing back to the apartments.

Then we were on our way to Dallas.

I had a class. A test. And another class.

I never understand why professors give us tests few days before we get out.

Horrible.

I bumped into Marisol.

Picture0313

She gave me a thank you card for donating a little something to FTK for the gift cards. And then she gave me a clown chocolate on a stick type thing.

It’s in Spanish so I don’t know what it is exactly. It fills soft so maybe it’s some kind of marshmallow covered chocolate? Hmm ..

Anyway, we got stuck in a 6 hour car ride that was supposedly suppose to be a 5 hour car ride. A little over. Not that terrible … I guess.

I got to Jenny and Tammy’s house at around 10:30pm and we ate their mum’s homemade pho. Yum!

Now Jenny’s asleep next to me on the couch while I watch Malcolm in the Middle and typing this up.

Can’t wait for the rest of my adventures here in Dallas, Houston, then back to Dallas, and Austin before heading back to San Antonio.

Whoo! Road trip galore!! Smile

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema | San Antonio, Texas

November 21, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

This weekend has been the most amazing one this whole semester.

I got to spend it with some amazing people.

I’ve already covered Friday night but I found a picture in my phone so you’ll just have to suck it up and hear it again!

Friday:

2011-11-18 20.20.27

After working hard on a partnership packet, a group of us went and ate at Cheddar’s. Gary, Ryan, Patricia, Katrina, Andy, Preston, and I all squeezed into a booth. Drinking was in order. Ryan and Patricia ordered margaritas while I chose the oh so wonderful Fat Tire. The others were underage.

Our waiter was DUMB. He didn’t know what a Fat Tire was and when we said separate checks, he said “Huh? What do you mean?” Really now?

Saturday:

Jenny, Tammy, and I went to the mall. Tammy needed to buy a birthday present for my brother so we shopped around. Then afterward we shopped around for ourselves. Winking smile

I got cute little fingerless mittens that can change to where my fingers are covered at Forever21 for $6.

I even got a nice looking jacket at Macy’s for $25! What a deal!! It’s a nice jacket that I can wear with my nice clothes. Much needed since I own a lot of hoodies.

I had gotten a text from my high school friend, Nicole, that she and her boyfriend were going to be in town. So we planned to get dinner with Stephanie (another high school friend who has been interning here in San Antonio).

We went to Taqueria Data Point. We talked and chilled. It was great. That was the first time I’ve met her boyfriend, and he was amazing!! He could definitely hold a conversation.

The only thing missing was Michelle. She’s coming home from New York this upcoming Sunday!! Finally, we’ll be in the same state again!

Jenny and Tammy wanted to watch Breaking Dawn so we had agreed to meet back at the apartments at 9pm. Then we headed to:

2011-11-19 21.40.00

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
1255 SW Loop 410
San Antonio, TX
(210) 677-8500
www.drafthouse.com

2011-11-19 21.44.052011-11-19 22.22.30

Our tickets. We are nerds. And we sat all the way at the top … that’s the view I saw. That’s not really the movie on the screen. Before they movie, they played all the spoofs. It’s hilarious!

2011-11-19 22.17.38

There was a lot of things on the menu. Definitely not your usual candies, sodas, popcorn, and nachos at the regular movie theaters.

After you figure out what you want, you write it down and stick it on the metal rail in front of you so it looks like a “flag”.

2011-11-19 22.37.21

Toasted Orzo [olive oil toasted Orzo pasta tossed in red vinegar, parsley, sun dried tomatoes, artichokes, and green onions] | $2.99

This was actually A LOT of food. The dude said it came In a small bowl. I beg to differ. I ate some and gave the rest to Jenny.

This was dang delicious and for such a low price. (It was a side.) The only thing I’m confused with is, it says it’s pasta … but I got rice. Unless Orzo means rice. Oh and the dish is cold. Like a salad!

I would order this again when I go because it’s cheap and delicious.

2011-11-19 22.37.48

Guinness Milkshake [Guinness and vanilla ice cream] | $5.00

OMG … I love it. I wished they would of told me that it had whipped cream because I would of told them NO THANKS! It was very delicious though. I would love to go and just order this. So delectable. So smooth.

2011-11-19 22.49.15

“Royale With Cheese” Burger [100% hormone and antibiotic free Angus patty with lettuce, tomato, onions, Cheddar cheese, bacon and chipotle mayo on a toasted sweet bun] | $9.99

The burger was very juicy. Cooked perfectly. The fries had a special type of seasoning so my ketchup as very unnecessary. The fries were a bit on the hard side. Not crunchy … hard. Yep.

I don’t think I would order the burger again though. It was good but not GREAT.

The theater itself … there are little lights underneath the long table where you sit. Luckily the ones under Jenny and I were out so it wasn’t super bright. The people came at the WORST times possible. But it was still a great experience.

The movie itself … was great! I’m not a die-hard Twilight fan but I love when people will do anything to protect those they love. Go watch it. It’s not terrible!

Sunday:

It was supposed to be study day but Jenny, Tammy, and I were lazy and were on Pinterest laughing away. When they went to H-E-B, I started my laundry, showered, and printed out all my slides. Productive?

2011-11-20 15.59.08

A bee flew into our humble abode. Sad smile They were scared. I wasn’t scared … as long as it wasn’t close to me. He was pretty dumb. He kept flying into the window and couldn’t get out. Took him about a good hour. I tried to help but you could hear he was getting angry.

After dinner, we watched Water For Elephants. Such a good movie. Robert Pattinson isn’t as terrible as everyone thinks. I find him attractive. Winking smile

This weekend was filled with fun and I cannot wait for this upcoming Thanksgiving break. I get to see my whole family as well as Tammy and Jenny’s family. It’s going to be amazing!!

We Really Want That Wine

November 21, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Jenny and I have had Krypto all semester pretty much. Sadly, he’ll be leaving us next semester so that we can focus on our studies more since we should both be graduating.

2011-11-21 00.08.54

Super blurry ugly picture I just took. Smile

But Jenny and I always make it a habit to go to PetLand once in a while.

Last Saturday, we went. Look who we found!

2011-11-12 14.22.49

Look at him all chill and stuff.

He’s a Shiba Inu. A dog Jenny and I have been wanting since the end of time. We go crazy when we see one.

Sadly they cost as much as $1300 if not more.

We bid farewell to him and went home.

Later that night, Jenny wanted to open her bottle of wine. We don’t own a corkscrew so she went and YouTubed a video a while back and saw a method of opening it by using a shoe. We also saw that you can open it with a book … we tried that method first. (These pictures aren’t the best ….)

2011-11-12 21.55.582011-11-12 21.59.37

The book method. The book on the table is not the same as the one Jenny’s holding. It was too heavy for her. Winking smile

2011-11-12 22.01.452011-11-12 22.07.59

The book method failed us. So we went and used the shoe method … then changed and used the towel method. Pretty much it all involved us pounding it against the wall.

2011-11-12 22.09.44

She resulted in knifing that in the end. Yet we still couldn’t get it to work.

We had to go over to the guys for help. (Funny story: They heard the pounding and thought someone was trying to break into someone’s house! haha)

Travis and I laughed while Jenny and A.V. tried hard to get that cork INTO the bottle instead of out just so they could taste that wine.

Let’s just say … too much pressure so it sprayed everywhere. But Jenny got her wine!

On Wednesday Katrina and I hung out a little before a benefit night.

2011-11-14 16.45.31

Don’t know if you can make out the words on the floor. It says “Kat” and “Mel”. Teehee

2011-11-16 18.22.17

We went to Walgreens so she could print out some pictures. While we waited, we walked around. Uhh what are these? Weird looking … scary, actually, is more like it.

2011-11-16 18.20.28

We also came across this. Is this really what kids are playing nowadays?! “Monster High”? Sounds about right … it looks like she’s holding a marijuana fan … horrible. Plus, look at the clothes she’s wearing … or not wearing. And her sickly skinny figure shows kids what the society wants them to look like. HORRIBLE!

2011-11-17 22.41.58

On Thursday I finally finished the week off strong. No more projects or presentations so I spent time with Jenny and her friend and painted while watching The Country Network. So Fun!

A very random post for a very busy week. Smile
