2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine

2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine | Work Recognition and Cornoa Kits

Many said that since my name appeared on the list of recognitions for our Asset’s townhall on Tuesday, I have a higher chance to get a job when we reapply this upcoming week. I’m not sure that’s how it works so wish me luck!

I stopped by work and picked up a care kit Thursday during lunch. They decided to give each employee a bottle of hand sanitizer made in house as well as four cloth face masks. It was nice that I just drove up and they dropped it in the car.

It was also nice seeing one of the maintenance/movers that I’ve known for over a decade there yelling my name when he saw me.

2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine | Red Meat for Blood Donation

When I headed home after picking up the kit, I decided to pick up a cheeseburger for the red meat I needed since Mallory and I signed up to donate Friday afternoon.

Mum was nice enough to bring home red meat kabobs to help my iron levels as well.

2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine | Walk with Ed and Haircut and Bath for Rizzo

Friday morning Ed came over and we walked Rizzo around the park across from my house. We both wore masks and caught up and after almost an hour we headed back since Rizzo was dying from the heat. I said bye to Ed and ended up going Rizzo a bath since it’s been a while.

After relaxing for a bit I met Mallory at the Blood Center to donate. My screener was horrible at using a temperature gun and deffer me even after I told him to get a different one to ensure I really didn’t have a fever first. I ended up not being able to donate due to human error which is the stupidest reason especially at a time like this.

2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine | Texas Sno | Katy, Texas | JJ

I ended up going over to Mallory’s house. Mallory, JJ, Jacob and I went and got snowcones from Texas Sno. They had colour changing cups which was pretty cool. We took them home and JJ literally slurped up the syrup. I threw away the last half since it was too much for me. I’d probably opt for a kids size next time rather than a medium.

The treat was great for such a hot day and probably the one and only snowcone I’ve ever had that’s worth the money. I joked wanting to come every time I come over now.

2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine | Starbucks Free Pastry and Chick-fil-A Free Cookie

After hours of hanging out I stopped by Starbucks and got my free bakery treat then to Chick-fil-A for my free birthday cookie. The rest was ordered since I was there anyway and knew others might enjoy.

2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine | Souq International Market | Katy, Texas

Saturday we went to Souq International Market. It opened last Sunday and we were able to do ALL our shopping in one place. I found my name as a brand and found it funny. I miss Mediterranean food and exited to see so many ingredients. I need to look up some recipes and get to work! If anyone wants to share, I’m not opposed.

2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine | Smoothie King | Katy, Texas

We picked up pho and Smoothie King on the way home. I’ve been craving a good veggie juicing and this hit the spot. A little too sweet for my taste but beggars can’t be choosers.

2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine | Thuy & Vu Zoom Baby Shower for Chloe

At 2 pm, Thuy and Vu had their Zoom Baby Shower. It was nice seeing everyone’s faces. They had so many friends on the call that there was a page two but I could only get so many in the pic. We all did a round of shots to celebrate Baby Chloe. I cannot wait to meet her as she’s due anytime soon!

2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine | Hot Pot

Later that night we did hot pot. We are having less and less foods on the table and more vegetables which means our stomachs are getting smaller and we’re eating healthier which is good. It’s taken me years to get to this state.

2020 | Week 13 of Quarantine | Rizzo Outside Chill

Today has been straight relaxing. Rizzo and I chilled outside listening to the birds and wind chimes. I cannot believe the weekend is already over but it’s been a very relaxing weekend so no complaints.

2020 | Week 12 of Quarantine

June 7, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

12 weeks.

It’s been 12 weeks in quarantine. 12 weeks of working from home. No one really knew it’d be this long. And we really don’t know how long it’ll be this way. But better safe than sorry.

2020 | Week 12 of Quarantine | Work Feedback

Since let gos are around the corner, hearing this from a pretty high source is always nice. Maybe one day I’ll get there but I am not amazing at work politics so who knows if it’ll actually happen.

2020 | Week 12 of Quarantine | Dad's Quarantine Birthday

We celebrated Dad’s birthday on the actual day with petit fours. Nothing fancy since we already did all of that last weekend. I gave him the second part of his present, hip jackets, that is for Father’s Day as well.

2020 | Week 12 of Quarantine | Air Fryer Steak

I killed it on making a medium rare steak all thanks the the air fryer. Will need to make a post on it for rememberance sake so I can do it again!

2020 | Week 12 of Quarantine | Sonic Haul

I offered to go to Sonic to get milkshakes and June tagged along. She saw the menu and wanted everything possible. So unhealthy but she was happy. My favourite were the pretzels after I dusted off some of the salt.

2020 | Week 12 of Quarantine | Blueberry Streusel Coffee Cake

I promised to make blueberry muffins but ended up making a Blueberry Streusel Coffee Cake. It tastes amazing and June couldn’t stop eating it. Will definitely share this recipe as well to save for future bakes.

What else should I make?

2020 | Week 11 of Quarantine | Pizza Hut and Wingstop

Our week of ordering out, Pizza Hut and Wingstop. Ever since June’s become a vegetarian she only craves pizza and it’s getting a little too much for me. Thank goodness they serve other things.

Is anyone still in quarantine? I am majority of the time but went to Mallory’s on Friday after hearing I wasn’t going to be mapped into a role – meaning I have to reapply in two rounds within the company and if I don’t get anything, I’ll be jobless come September.

2020 | Week 11 of Quarantine | Dinner and Drinks with Mallory and Beth

We ordered food from Local Table and drank mimosas and screwdrivers and had some random conversations before I had to leave and pick up Dad’s birthday present from the store.

2020 | Week 11 of Quarantine | Rocky Rizzo

Rocky and Rizzo still love sitting outside. The rain has helped cool the weather and our fans help to keep the flies away.

2020 | Week 11 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee Masked

Saturday morning we decided dad can finally chauffeur us for our errands. He couldn’t get out of the car but it was better than nothing.

Mum thought first stop to the garden center to buy literal chicken shit was the best idea. I thank goodness for masks since I couldn’t breathe without wanting to hurl if I didn’t have it on.

2020 | Week 11 of Quarantine | Dad's Chinese 70 Zoom Birthday Surprise

Sissy, Brudda and I planned a surprise birthday call with the whole entire extended family. It was BYOD: Bring your own device. Bring your own dinner. Bring your own drinks.

His surprise was also that we gave him the laptop the Zoom call was on and Sissy and BIL came and sat the the kitchen table while we were in the dining.

Dad finally got his steaks and it was nice to get everyone together. The kids played a few rounds of online Pictionary before calling it a night.

2020 | Week 11 of Quarantine | Spring Roll Everything

I’ve been putting random things in spring rolls all week and making special sauces for them. Since I couldn’t finish my burger yesterday night, I rolled the rest without the buns into rice paper along with the leftover green beans. I made a delicious ketchup hot sauce to dip it in.

It’s been a crazy week and this one won’t be any different. I’ll be fixing up my resume, applying to jobs outside of my company if I find any that fancies me and wait until the two rounds open within the company to apply to. Wish me luck!

2020 | Week 10 of Quarantine | T-Mobile Tuesday Fail

The week started out a little rocky. I used T-Mobile’s free Popeyes sandwich deal but I didn’t get it. A little peeved, I went out of character as you can tell from my Tweet. T-Mobile made up for it so I’m happy again.

2020 | Week 10 of Quarantine | Free Medium Size Pizza from Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut was giving away a one topping medium pizza Friday so I took advantage of it. Luckily this actually came and my family was able to enjoy it.

2020 | Week 10 of Quarantine | Kendra Scott Birthday Present from Patricia

I got a little surprise in the mail from Patricia. Second part of my birthday gift! Now I just need a place to wear it to. Thanks, boo!

2020 | Week 10 of Quarantine | Birthday Present from Sissy and BIL

The second surprise was my Origins delivery. I was ordering the week of my birthday and Sissy decided her and BIL will pay for part of it as my gift. Buying the left four gave me the right nine things and a bag for free. Eek!

The third surprise was from Caitlin. It was her birthday Friday and I texted her my usual happy birthday message to which she replied by calling me on video chat! It was a nice surprise since we hadn’t spoken since pretty much when Scruffy and I broke up. She works in the same company as I do now and caught up on a lot of other things. There was a lot of laughter. I wonder if it’s a one time thing but it was nice nonetheless to be able to see how everyone was doing.

2020 | Week 10 of Quarantine | Rocky and Rizzo

Rocky, Rizzo and I are still doing the usual outside chilling as much as possible. I think it’s been helping them, getting so much outside air and sun.

2020 | Week 10 of Quarantine | Crawfish Boil at Gordon's and Patsy's

Gordon and Patsy decided to have another Crawfish Boil Saturday and invited me and Timothy again. We are now pros at the Asian sauce you tend to eat at restaurants. So unhealthy but so delicious. We had a lot of conversations, one of which was what is the difference between walk, run and jog in Chinese/English. A debacle that I ended up calling Mum and it was still questionable.

2020 | Week 10 of Quarantine | Pastries Delivered by Sissy and BIL

This morning, Sissy and BIL came and delivered pastries. The crawfish etouffee and elote ones were the best! We all sat outside with them 6 feet away. We video called Brudda and made it a party. We’ve been doing a lot more calls than before and if you know my family that was already a lot. It’s been nice though.

2020 | Week 10 of Quarantine | Hot Pot for Dad's Birthday

We had Hot Pot, because as Mallory says, that’s what my family does to celebrate things. Since June has to work next weekend, we figured this can be a super early birthday celebration for Dad. For his day of birth we would do delivery from somewhere he’d want … maybe steak.

2020 | Week 10 of Quarantine | Mojitos by Mellie

June wanted mojitos and asked me to make her some. I’ve never really mixed drinks before but I gave it a whirl and made pineapple mojitos. They actually liked it! Dad even wanted seconds. It doesn’t look traditional since I didn’t put in mint leaves for decoration but for my first time, I’m happy.

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine | If 2020 was a dessert - Friends -- Feet Trifle

One of my friend’s sent this to me and my answer was “what’s not to like?!”, pretending to be like Joey loving the feet trifle. I don’t think I can say it enough that quarantine life is SO good to me – less stress for sure. Mostly because I can work from home and do not need to bother with the traffic. I think if I continued this and being able to see people when I want, it would be the perfect medium.

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine | Snapchat Mellie Dee Filter

Anyway, this past week was my birthday week. And I don’t feel any bit different. Still a kid as you can tell from these pictures.

The only difference is that I’m starting to feel more like an adult, only because I have to put in my Individual Development Plan (IDP) and Talent Card into the HR system at work for the first time. I had to use a lot of brain cells to figure out what I want to do with my career. I hope I get to climb up some kind of ladder because boy am I getting old to be where I am right now.

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine | Rizzo & Mellie Dee Before Turning 31

This was my last picture at being 30. And the only picture I took of Rizzo this week. I look beat. It’s been hard to sleep but if I keep my job, I’m going to get me a whole new bed.

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee Seafood Birthday Dinner | Yummy Seafood & Oyster Restaurant | Katy, Texas

I took off work “early” on my day of birth. And we ordered Yummy Seafood and Oyster for dinner. The shirt Lily gave me was perfect for this occasion!

They had a deal going on where you buy 4 pounds and get 1 free and also every 2 pounds you get one free potato and corn. We ended up with sweet potato fries, 10 pounds of crawfish + 5 corn and potatoes, 2 dozen shrimps, and 5 clusters of snowcrab. They gave us an extra snowcrab for free!

We had a lot leftover for me to enjoy the next day as well.

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee Birthday Dinner | Cake

June got me a birthday cheesecake and a fruit tart. I got to make two wishes this year. During this part of my celebration, we video called Brudda and Sissy so that both of their families can celebrate with me.

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee Birthday | Presents

I’ve been receiving gifts all month but this week, other than my usual red envelopes, I got something from Wacko, Monica and Emma on the right. Amazon does some dang good packaging! I was joking to June that we need to put everything as a present so that we can collect those bags.

I also got some sweet earrings that reflect rainbows depending on how the light shines from June and a mug from Patricia.

I felt so much love this year. Phone calls, text messages, Facebook messages, Instagram messages. ALL the ways you can message, I got them all. But my favourite would have to be the video messages from Emmy, Katrina, and Jasmine. They all sang happy birthday to me in the sweetest way that I will forever cherish.

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine | Popeyes, Black Pearl, Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodle, Gong Cha | Katy, Texas

This weeks outside orders also includes Popeye’s, Black Pearl, Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodles, and Gong Cha. I applaud Ten Seconds for their innovative way of delivering food. The noodles stack on top of the soup and comes with a lid. This way, you know which one is exactly yours and you can eat right out of the bowl. AND the noodles won’t get soggy. Pho places and other noodle places need to learn!

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine | Beet Overload and Fish Filet & Chicken Fingers

Is there such a thing as too many beets? I ate three in one sitting because it was going bad and let me just say, my stomach was not a happy camper.

I also finally went and got myself chicken fingers and fish filets. These bring back memories. I’m glad I stuck with fish filet rather than fish fingers. They just wouldn’t have the same meatyness.

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee Facebook Avatar

Has anyone created their Facebook avatar yet? They have better features than Bitmoji even though Facebook has more limited choices.

I found it hilarious that I’ve been living without pants on as much as I can and have funnily been wearing an oversize sweatshirt at times so seeing that was perfect!

2020 | Week 9 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee Facebook Avatar and Bitmoji Comparison

I found some pictures and did some comparisons. The top one is Bitmoji and the bottom one is the Facebook avatar. How do you think I did? Ignore the fact my braid is on the wrong side! haha I don’t think I did too badly. I also realized I have no eyebrows with my hat on in the avatar.
