2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Plant Owner

September 27, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Big Brother Big Sister Zoom

I had my first Big Brothers Big Sisters Zoom call with my new little, Cristina. It’s definitely weird doing it online but I’m just glad we finally connected and know what one another look like. Here’s to hoping for a good relationship!

2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee Sissy Gift

I’ve still been cleaning my room and found one of my favourite presents that I’ve ever recieved. Hand made from Sissy. This picture is from our 2006 family trip taken right at a beach in Maine.

2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Tacos, Shrimp Boils and Breakfast

I’ve been feasting really well this week. Los Roberto’s tacos and a lot of shrimp boils because when the weather gets cool, the spices will keep you warm!

2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Daily Walks | Mellie Dee and Rizzo

As usual, good eats equals lots of walks. I’ve hit 54 consecutive days of hitting the 10000 step goal. We’ve been missing the sunset and sunrise lately but I’m still thankful to be able to see ever since Mum found out she has cataracts and needs surgery.

2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Rizzo

Rizzo looks so chunky in this picture but he’s been gaining all muscles lately from all our walks and eats SO fast now to where he’ll try to steal Rocky’s! Oh how the tables have turned.

2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Corner Bakery's White Chocolate Mint Cold Brew

Today was a pretty relaxing day. Goodwill to donate some of June and Mum’s things and a stop at Corner Bakery for some coffee since Starbucks was busy up the wazoo.

I ordered a White Chocolate Mint Cold Brew. So sugary but worth it since it’s been a while.

2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Tall Plants | Houston, Texas

Mum, June and I met Sissy at Tall Plants. I heard of this place when I worked at my previous job. A guy used to come for plant maintenance and we got to know each other. His family owns this place and after over a year, I finally made it to check it out. He was there too!

P.S. I really want a Christmas Tree like plant. They’re so cute!

2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Calathea Ornata ‘Pinstripe’ Sissy Plants

I am now a plant owner. Sissy and I decided to get the same plant as sister plants. Mine is on the left, hers on the right. Mine will probably die real fast.

2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Calathea Ornata 'Pinstripe' and Painting

This is a Calathea Ornata also known as the Pinstripe. I gave my plant some things to look at. Fingers crossed he stays healthy! I’m afraid my sunny room will fill it’s colours. Eek.

2020 | Week 28 of Quarantine | Piano Keyboard Learning

Speaking of new things, I’ve practiced a total of three times and got down a lot of chords to where I can play songs and sing along. Now I just need to learn to play actual music rather than just chords but I’m proud of the muscle memory!

2020 | Week 27 of Quarantine | Dip Nails

What do you do when you you have four meetings back to back? Do your nails of course. Getting the hang of it and the meeting felt like it wet by faster because of it.

2020 | Week 27 of Quarantine | L&L Hawaiian, Tea Top with Jeff

On Friday, I met up with Jeff. We got L&L Hawaiian and Tea Top and talked about life. I had plans to go to Mallory’s afterward and found it funny that she chose the same drink I had.

2020 | Week 27 of Quarantine | JJ, Jacob and Mallory

I delivered her drink and we hung out for a bit. I even got fed some spaghetti. It’s been a while so it was hitting the spot. Jacob eating cheeto puffs is so adorable. And JJ there some beans everywhere hoping it’ll grow randomly.

2020 | Week 27 of Quarantine | Basil Picking and Wong Fu

Mallory gave me a big bushel of basil and so after a walk with June I watched Wong Fu episodes whole picking them off the branches. I’m excited to try and make pesto. Hoping it’ll be as good as Ashy’s. Fingers crossed!

2020 | Week 27 of Quarantine | Jared, Charlie, Rizzo at Terry Hershey Park

Saturday morning I opted out of walking with June and met up with Jared and Charlie instead at Terry Hershey Park. Rizzo didn’t care much for them and just wanted to walk.

Charlie is a ball of fire. Only 10 months old and love to run. He got Jared running too and it was hilarious. The boy also loves sticks and grabbed a giant one that he ended up slapping Jared in the shin. Charlie was sweet when he realized he hurt his owner and dropped the stick and went over to Jared.

2020 | Week 27 of Quarantine | Wendy's Frosty, Rizzo and Mellie Dee

On the drive home I stopped by Wendy’s to cool down and took a nap with Rizzo. We were pooped.

2020 | Week 27 of Quarantine | Daily Walk Scenery

We walked with June later that night and my steps count went through the roof. Still blessed with the views for the week. Dad even walked with us today and was amazed he was able to keep up.

2020 | Week 27 of Quarantine | Hot Pot, Sonic, Charcuterie, Spicy Noodles

Hot Pot. Spicy AF noodles that is my new love. Charcuterie going strong when I don’t have time during the week. And today, Sonic.

This weekend went by way too fast but I guess that’s what happens when you’re having fun.

2020 | Week 26 of Quarantine | Flip n Patties | Houston, Texas

2020 | Week 26 of Quarantine | Labour Day Walk

We had a super long walk to start off Labour Day. Accomplishing over 3.5 miles so early really makes you feel better about taking a nap later in the day.

2020 | Week 26 of Quarantine | Daily Walk Views

These were the other views I saw all week on our daily walks. Never taken for granted the views. Rizzo even climbed a tree that was knocked down.

2020 | Week 26 of Quarantine | Dip Powder Manicure

I got rid of my dip and redid them and did better the second time around. I had bought more colours and opted to try out the colour changer. I’m a pro now. Get at me!

2020 | Week 26 of Quarantine | Flip n Patties | Houston, Texas | Jeff

Since I worked so many extra hours this week, I left work thirty minutes earlier and met Jeff at Flip n Patties. This has been on my list since it opened! And I was beyond excited to try them out.

Skip their hand sanitizer though … It smelled horrible.

Their food on the other hand was friggin bomb and I am kicking myself for taking so long to get here. We ordered the regular burger with the fried mushroom on it, pupu platter and flan. Sigh … I loved the pupu so much I was debating ordering another for my family to try. Their rice … only dear if you love garlic because your breath will stink after. Well worth it though!

2020 | Week 26 of Quarantine | Chinese To Go Rice Boxes and Popeyes

Other eats from the outside world was authentic Chinese Take Out and Popeyes. Drool. I’ll be eating my leftovers for days.

2020 | Week 26 of Quarantine | Tuft & Needle Queen Mattress

If you know me well, you’ll know I’ve been looking for a bed since probably 2014. And I finally made the purchase! I debated on different brands and deals and decided Labour Day was the best time. It came two days later all roll neatly in this box. I have 100 days to try it out to decide if it is for me or not. I’ve been cleaning all weekend making room for my first queen sized bed. So far I’ve had a Sunday nap on it and I’m loving it.

2020 | Week 26 of Quarantine | Mercedes and Sebastian Baby Shower

Saturday, in the middle of cleaning, I took a two hour break to attend Mercedes and Sebastian Baby Shower, Live on Facebook. They had three different games in between opening presents and I think it went really well. I actually won on the second game! They asked for my address but no clue what I’ll be receiving. Knowing them, it’ll be hilarious. She also looks damn great for someone about to give birth in a little over a month!

2020 | Week 26 of Quarantine | Goodwill Donation

Sissy and I did a video chat for over four hours. It started as random conversation to me modeling clothes for her to help me get rid of junk. Sissy kept telling me I’ve lost weight but I didn’t believe her. (Mallory has said the same but I feel the same.)

I was never in the midset to lose weight so I was surprised I can fit into clothes back from prior to dating Scruffy. I guess they were right.

From purses to shoes to clothes. SO MUCH CLOTHES. I found clothes from elementary school all the way to present day. All the free shirts/hoodies I got through life especially college and donating blood. Clothes that will never fit my curves ever again.

Today, I have purged so much out of my life and donated it all away. June threw in some things but they were mostly mine.

I’m still nowhere near complete with my purge but I’m happy that it jump-started June and Mum in doing the same … or hoping to do the same. We are planning to donate more next week.

2020 | Week 25 of Quarantine | Kimchi Soup, Eggs and Pickles

Kimchi Soup going strong with the amount of kimchi we have. Apparently someone said eating kimchi will help you not get corona which I doubt is true. But still yummy.

Also been loving my everything but bagel eggs with pickles.

2020 | Week 25 of Quarantine | Dermatologist and Whataburger

Friday, I finally went and got a tattoo. Just kidding. I got shot up again. Hoping one day it’ll stick.

i grabbed Whataburger on the way to Mallory’s since I hadn’t eaten all day. I forget how good their chicken strips are.

2020 | Week 25 of Quarantine | JJ and Jacob

Jacob is so grown! He doesn’t mind me holding me anymore with my mask on. And JJ is going to be a pro at Mario Kart and will beat me soon enough.

2020 | Week 25 of Quarantine | Nail Date with Sissy

Saturday, Sissy and I had a manicure date on video. She got a polymer gel kit and I got a dip kit. It was actually pretty fun doing it together. I loved mine so much I bought more colours. I haven’t painted my own nails since college so it’ll take practice but not bad for my first time! I stayed on with her while she finished up .. four hours later. She’s got the hang of it now though.

2020 | Week 25 of Quarantine | Hot Pot and Mulan

Family had hot pot after my video chat. Then Disney+ Mulan. Even though it’s in English, Dad even joined in. It’s not the same as the cartoon but it was a great movie overall. I cried at the proud parts, sad parts and happy parts … of course. It was nice being able to see Chinese people I watched growing up on the big screen.

2020 | Week 25 of Quarantine | Daily Walk, Sunset, Sunrise, Rizzo, Rocky

Blessed to have these views. It’s been over a month hitting my steps goal … over 10000 daily now. Not sure how long I can keep it up but if I’m able to hit 5000, I’m happy.

2020 | Week 25 of Quarantine | Smoothie King and KFC

We went to TJMaxx to get out of the house then picked up Smoothie King. We picked up Pho and KFC. KFC is not as bad as I remembered back in college.

We watched all three John Wick movies today. Oh the life of quarantine and holiday.

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | Rizzo Sleepy

Rizzo sleeping peacefully while I’m busy at work. Sammi sent me a picture of Pluto and Emmy asleep, asking me if I was safe from the hurricane so I sent this picture back to her.

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | Chinese Food

Mum and June were off Wednesday so they went to Chinatown and bought some goodies back. I ate my share for days after but I didn’t mind it at all.

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | Cauliflower Gnocchi & Meatballs and Kimchi Soup

I did cook my own foods as well. Cauliflower Gnocchi and Meatballs as well as Kimchi Soup. This type of soup is always a default for me when I’m cleaning out the fridge, trying to use vegetables that are going bad.

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | Rizzo & Mellie Dee Forest Park Walk

Since I’ve been working so hard/much, my boss said I can pick whatever day I want to take off as a free vacation. I could have chose a day I worked more hours but chose Friday since June was off. I finally got her to agree to go to “the forest” walk with me. Rizzo did well off leash.

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | Forest Park Walk Views

And the views. THE VIEWS. So much path left uncovered. Loved seeing runners/bikers while we did our almost 3.5-mile walk. I wanted to continue but Rocky was about to be done.

For anyone that knows Rocky, he’s a big chunk. He did the walk with us and afterward, wouldn’t move for a while. Trooper. He’s doing so well with these daily walks.

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | La Baguette Bakery & Bistro | Katy, Texas | June
Tequenos [5 fried breaded cheese stick served with a side of our house sauce] • Cachapas [one sweet corn pancake sliced in half topped with white cheese with a side of shredded beef] • Causa de Pollo [masked potato topped with avocado, hard boiled egg, and chicken salad] • Veggie Arepa • Shredded Beef Arepa • Sauces • Alfajores

We went back home, showered and relaxed a bit then headed out for our annual birthday lunch where I chose a place and I treat her to it.

I’ve been wanting to try La Baguette Bakery & Bistro and was so happy she was down to go with me.

La Baguette Bakery & Bistro
21821 Katy Fwy
Katy, Texas 77450

Yelp

Everything was so good. Our favourite was the cachapas. The lady was nice enough to let us know that we can buy a bigger version without the meat. Definitely will be doing that next time.

I’ve converted June to loving Tequenos more than American Mozzarella sticks. Seriously, if you haven’t tried Tequenos yet and you LOVE cheese, this is the better version, especially when you dip it in their green sauce.

The arepas are great but wish my bottom wasn’t so soggy. I slathered Causa on the arepas which made them taste even better. I’ve had other Causas before and this one fit the bill. I want to come back for this and the Alfajores that melts in your mouth.

I’ve been to other Venezuelan places before but this is one of the best in Katy. I love that I can bring my laptop here and order a coffee too. Debating and really wanting to.

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | Texas Snow | Katy, Texas | June

We walked around Daiso a bit to get our food moving through our bodies then stopped by Texas Sno for dessert.

Texas Sno
3130 Katy Hockley Cut Off Rd,
Katy, Texas 77493

I was so happy she loved it — especially since it was over 100 degrees out!

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | Houston Restaurant Week | Urban American Kitchen | Mum
Bellini | $7.50 • Urban Brussel Sprouts | $5 • Herb Crusted Salmon [served with saffron cream sauce, asparagus, and cheesy risotto] | $16.95 • Houston Restaurant Week Brunch | 1st Course: Blueberry Pancakes [fluffy buttermilk pancakes served with blueberries and syrup] | 2nd Course: Chicken Wings & Waffles [crispy chicken wings over Belgian waffle served with habanero syrup] | $20

On Saturday, after stopping by Hobby Lobby, I took Mum to our annual Houston Restaurant Week meal at Urban American Kitchen. Sadly I thought they’d have the lunch menu but ended up with the brunch menu.

Urban American Kitchen
14008 Memorial Drive
Houston, Texas 77079
urbanamericankitchen.com

We made do. I ordered off the brunch menu and she ordered off the regular menu. It wasn’t what we expected but it ended up being better than we thought.

Their brunch is nothing special. Their blueberry pancakes were normal, the waffle was soggy, and the wings, though crispy lacked flavour. Overall disappointed with their Houston Restaurant Week brunch.

But their salmon and Brussels were a hit. We loved it SO much. I don’t mind coming back to try their main menu more to see if there are other hidden yums.

This is super close to work, so if we ever do go back to the office, this could be a place to go with coworkers — but who are we kidding, I rarely go out at work time.

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | Smoothie King

After an amazing meal, we went and got groceries from H-Mart and a car wash, we decided to pick up Smoothie King and Pho for dinner. I never get to go to Smoothie King so I asked for 40 oz of Daily Warrior for myself. I wish I was in walking distance to Smoothie King – or any juicer place. What we make at home never compares.

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | June's Birthday Cheese Souffle Cake

Today, we went to 99 Ranch to pick up some essentials. Then it was laziness until dinner time when June came home. We had a tiny Cheese Souffle cake for her to blow out one last candle for a wish.

2020 | Week 24 of Quarantine | Daily Walk Views

These are different sunsets during the week on our daily walks. Y’all sick of these yet? Because I’m not. I love how every day is unpredictable. You never know what colours you’ll get. Or what you’ll see. The cat wasn’t afraid of us but also didn’t like when Rizzo got closer.
