2018 | 031/365 | All The Peppers For The Harissa Hot Sauce

[2018] 031/365: Peppers for Days

Guys, look how gorgeous these peppers are. Red jalapeños, green jalapeños, and serranos!

Harissa Hot Sauce

Jamie shared the recipe for Harissa Hot Sauce with me and gave me permission to share with the world. You can find the recipe at the bottom of the post.

Rizzo, Poolside Chillin'

Rizzo chilled poolside while I read my book. I was joyous that I get chances like this. It reminds me of being back in college, sitting on the balcony, studying. Soak it up, Riz!

La Michoacana Natural | Rosenberg, Texas

After Scruffy and I picked up the goodies to make the hot sauce we saw this little ice cream shop, La Michoacana Natural at the red light and decided to stop by to check it out.

Oreo Cream Ice Cream, Pine Nut Ice Cream, and Fried Wheat Dough

I think I’ve found my favourite ice cream flavour. Have you ever heard Pine Nut Ice Cream? I could have heard wrong, but the pink ice cream bar was heaven. It was so dang good that I bought a 16 oz home! I’ve already told Scruffy I want to go back. The only problem is that the parking sucked. This little shop has been here for fifteen years though so it’s doing something right!

Harissa Hot Sauce
Course: Dips & Sauces
Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 lb red jalapeño peppers
  • 1/4 lb serrano peppers
  • 1/4 lb green jalapeño peppers
  • 1 bulb of garlic
  • 2 tbsp caraway seeds
  • 2 tbsp coriander grounded
  • 1 tbsp cumin grounded
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil + a little more to seal jar
Preparations
  1. For the peppers, using gloves, slice the tops off, then in half. Discard the white membrane and some of the seeds as desired.

  2. In a blender, add peppers, garlic, caraway seeds, coriander, cumin, salt, and 2 tbsp of olive oil. Blend into a salsa consistency.

  3. Pour into a jar and add a little olive oil on top to seal the jar.

  4. Store in the fridge and after each use, add a little bit of olive oil to reseal the jar.

Notes

*Use gloves. The peppers will burn and send you to the emergency room!

**The olive oil will help keep the hot sauce fresher for longer.

[2018] 030/365: Family Dinner at Scruffy’s

I finally finished a novel super early this morning ! I couldn’t put it down and ended up sleeping at four in the morning. Whoops.

We had dinner at Scruffy’s tonight with his grandparents of fetticinie Alfredo made by Ashy.

I’m now currently watching the rest of this Chinese soap opera at Andrew’s and hoping we get some Game of Thrones in tonight.

Drinking Alcohol After A Blood Donation

January 29, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 | 029/365 | Blood Donations

[2018] 029/365: Saving Lives

Finally had a chance to donate some plasmas today while Mallory donated whole blood. I haven’t been to this location in a year or so and surprisingly they remembered me! After much catch up, I was able to read a few pages off the Kindle while snacking on some treats before the guy next to me was freaking out. He was a first-timer with automated blood so freakout was much understood.

Hasta La Pasta | Katy, Texas | Happy Hour

We went and got our eyebrows and lips waxed before heading over to Hasta La Pasta. Everyone knows after blood donations one should never drink alcohol but for some reason, Mallory and I always break that. No one tell on us, please!

Hasta La Pasta | Katy, Texas | Chicken Parmesan, Stuffed Mushrooms, Brussels Sprouts, Toasted Ravioli, Bread

Bread | free • Stuffed Mushrooms [spinach, bread crumbs, and three-cheeses in mushroom caps drizzled with parmesan cream sauce] | $8 • Toasted Ravioli [breaded cheese ravioli served with tomato sauce] | $8 • Chicken Parmesan [breaded chicken topped with tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese, served with house pasta penne with Cesar salad] | $15 • Blistered Brussels Sprouts | $3

We shared all the food on the table but we were not able to finish anything. We think the management might have changed because the food wasn’t like how it used to be. It’s not horrible, but just, different.

Rizzo In A Box

When I got home, a box was waiting for us. Puppies for sale!! Haha Just kidding. The box was filled with Whimzees and Rizzo was very excited and jumped into the delivered box hoping to earn some treats. Since he just got his dental work done, I have to wait to feed him any. Sorry baby!!

RECIPE | Sausage Green Beans

2018 | 028/365 | Sausage Green Beans

[2018] 028/365: Best Dang Sausage Green Beans

I was supposed to go with my parents and June to visit Grandma but Rocky had the horrible cases of the poos so I stayed behind. That boy signaled me five times throughout the day. Poor baby.

So instead of having lunch and dinner with my family, I whipped up the best dang Sausage Green Beans instead. I didn’t measure out my ingredients but I feel like it’s how you like it, right? Maybe one day I’ll have this updated with the portions I used.

Sausage Green Beans

Course: Side Dish
Cuisine: American
Servings: 6 people
Author: Mellie Dee
Ingredients
  • sausage
  • butter
  • garlic minced
  • green beans
  • cayenne to taste
  • chili sesame oil to taste
  • salt to taste
Preparations
  1. Cook the sausage in a skillet and break up into bite-sized pieces until done then put it aside.
  2. Stir butter and garlic together in the pan then add the green beans in.
  3. Add cayenne, chili sesame oil, and salt.
  4. When green beans are done, mix in sausage and it’s ready to serve.
Notes

You can add practically any type of vegetables in here and it'll still be delicious!

You can even add in onions and bacon instead of sausage which is the norm but I didn’t have either on hand. Seriously, easy and delicious. It isn’t even worth the “RECIPE” title.

Drugged-Up Rizzo

2018 | 027/365 | Drugged Up Rizzo

[2018] 027/365: Drugged-Up Rizzo

Rizzo had his first dental cleaning today and it went well! His teeth are pearly white and his stinky breath isn’t there anymore. I’m certain after a couple meals later, his breath will be back especially since he eats a fish based diet. He’s currently drugged-up and it’s a little hilarious to watch him.
