Free Snacks and Coffee at Work

I went a little crazy with the free breakfast snacks this morning. Don’t worry though, I only drank the coffee and ate my Chobani.

I was so surprised to see a text from Scruffy asking me to lunch and even offering to pick me up! I let him decide where we go and chuckled when he said he wanted to go to Tacodeli, a place he goes with his boss every Tuesday. I would think he’d pick something else but I guess he wants me to try it.

It wasn’t bad, I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest. I still put Jarro Cafe and Pacific Coast Tacos ahead of this but maybe I just need to try a few more different tacos to make a firm statement. Their scallop special taco was the shiet though.

Their Salsa Dona is a favourite so much so that you can buy a small size of it and dip it with their chips. I did just that so that I could have a snack while I worked but mostly so that I can bring it home for the parents to try. Mum loved it but I didn’t really get a response from Dad.

I was happy I had this as a snack since I was at work from six am to seven pm! And in my first week! I forgot to leave when I was doing something and it became a two-hour drive home so I opted to stay later, rack up some hours and drive home later for a way lesser commute.

Tieks

I came home to my lovely new Tieks!! But I’m not 100% sure if I’ll keep them both, especially since I shopped on DSW last night and have a few wedges coming in. I need to pull back on this shopping spree I’ve been on the last couple of weeks. And I don’t even LIKE to shop!

I’m excited for Saturday when I get to return everything I don’t like and get that money back though.

Rolling Out the Door Like Violet

This job is going to get me fat fatter than ever. Like when Violet ate a piece of candy and ballooned up and needed Oompa Loompas to roll her out. That’s going to be me soon. They apparently have free breakfasts Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. (Yes, Fridays. I don’t have every other Friday off like I did with my old job. I’m not too sure how I feel about it yet.) I didn’t grab any Monday since I just started, nor did I today because I was a little too shy and was afraid I’ll end up at the wrong place. But come Friday, everyone better get out of my way. I’m ready!

Free BBQ at Work

While in the break room, a random lady getting coffee introduced herself and has been super nice and showed me around, telling me more about the company. Later at lunchtime, she even invited me to lunch with her gal pals. I told her I would have to grab a quick lunch to which she replied she can score me some free BBQ since there was a lunch meeting with leftovers. I grabbed my plate and followed her down two floors to a bigger break room to eat. They were all super nice and even invited me to join whenever I wanted. I am conflicted because I’d like to join, but also because I’m not a fan of long lunches because I just want to go home to Rizzo. Sigh …

Afternoon Hazelnut Coffee

The afternoon hit me … groggy. I went to the break room to try a hazelnut coffee but it didn’t do anything to me. Everyone who knows me knows I’m not a super coffee fan so best believe there’s a lot of hazelnut creamer in there making it more milky than coffee.

I received a text from Ashy with tonight’s dinner menu, inviting me to join. So I did. The steaks were PERFECT, as well as all the veggies and potatoes. Drool! I was craving a steak and this hit the spot! And I even have leftovers. Happy tummy.

Luna and the Orange Ball

I know it’s only been a few days since I’ve had their cooking and seeing Luna’s face but I really miss the freedom to come over whenever I wanted to and spend the night doing nothing.

I received my parking badge yesterday and parked there this morning. It resulted in me getting lost when exiting the building but I still made it on time. I filled up my Thermos cup with water and noticed all the fresh fruits they had sitting out. I also realized that they had Chobani and Yoplait yoghurt, sodas, water bottles, espresso/latte maker, coffee/tea maker, as well as instant chicken noodle or instant veggie soup mix for grabs. All great for when you’re in that slump and need a pick me up.

When lunchtime hit, I was super tired and happy to get away from the desk to fuel back up. I went back into the tunnels and ended up with a bad choice: Wok & Roll. I need to start hitting up non-Asian places and get out of my comfort zone.

[2018] 218/365: Greasy Asian Food

A bad choice because it was greasy. It was good though but I’ve definitely had better. I did slurp up all the soup and saved a lot of the plate for tomorrow … possibly for breakfast.

Since I went in a bit earlier today, I was able to leave a bit early as well. I was able to find my car quite simply this time around and with the time I left it worked SO much better with less traffic. Now it’s showering and getting ready for bed, cuddling with Rizzo and watching TVB’s Apple-Colada.

[2018] 127/365: First Day Look

Today marks the first day of my new job. I woke up a bit groggy since I didn’t fall asleep until after midnight, thanks to not having a consistent schedule since unemployment. I soon kicked into a full go-go-go mode and got ready while Mum took Rizzo out to potty for me. Rizzo was sitting on the stairs waiting for me to go back upstairs for more cuddles, poor baby.

After almost an hour of driving, I finally made it to the office, sitting in the office for over an hour since my new line manager was stuck in a meeting. She showed me around and introduced me to a few people and threw me to the dogs! Ha Just kidding. I pretty much shadowed someone throughout the day.

Downtown Tunnels

Time flew by VERY fast and I didn’t realize it was time for lunch. I ventured into the tunnels on my own in search of lunch around 12 PM. This is where a giant corporation differed where lunch is usually with the whole team but I made do and picked up my own lunch.

I found a nice little sitting area and had my lunch all by my lonesome, enjoying some Parks and Rec on the side. The dumplings aren’t the best things ever but were able to keep me a bit full. The lobster ball is ridiculous and not that great – rip off. Their tea was overly sweet and I had to throw it away after drinking a third of it. Just water for me, please! I don’t mind coming back for some dumplings and hot and sour soup though.

After a little over an hour drive, I made it home. Little Rizzo was so ecstatic to see me. My little baby. Time to cuddle with him. Bye y’all!

[2018] 126/365: Celebratory Lunch

Scruffy loves the chimichanga from Los Cucos so I was able to convince my parents, Sissy, and BIL to go there for lunch. Sissy and BIL wanted to pay to celebrate me finding a job, Dad and Mum wanted to pay to celebrate the same thing but also to celebrate Sissy and BIL’s 5 years of marriage. I ended up winning and paid as thank you for taking care of me while I was jobless.

They have some great food. My favourite is their green tomatillo sauce that comes free with chips and red salsa. Scruffy found a recipe for the sauce so I’m excited to make it one day soon!

Afterward, we hung out for a short bit before saying goodbye to everyone. I’ve been lazy ever since. Tomorrow’s my first day. I’m ready! But I’m not.
