2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Mandeville, Louisiana

July 18, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Mallory & Mellie Dee | Gloria's | Soju 101 | HMart

On Wednesday, Mallory and I had a girls night. We met up at Gloria’s for dinner and drinks. I am in love with their tamales and I am down to go back again just for it! We had some margaritas and then headed over to HMart to buy some goodies before going to Soju 101. We had soju shots and a sake bomb before calling it a night. It’s been a while since we’ve done something like this and it was a great time.

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Rizzo Packed Bags

Thursday nifht was packing day. New bag and new purse. Definitely the best way to travel for a weekend trip. Rizzo wanted to come with.

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee | IAH to MSY

The airport was crazy busy Friday morning but I was able to get there early and even get a dragon fruit lemonade thing from Starbucks. I snacked on my yummies from HMart while listening to a podcast.

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | MSY & Cafe Du Monde

Flight was pretty quick. I watched part of The Tomorrow War on the plane and when I landed I watched some more while snacking on Cafe Du Monde, waiting for Michelle to pick me up. The MSY airport had a cute wash your hands sign and seat covers. So clean and nice.

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Dexter, Mellie Dee, Jack, Zea Rotisserie & Bar

Michelle and I caught up a lot in the car and Dexter came up to me when I got to the house. Either he remembers me or he just wanted love .. or both. I was able to get a good picture with Jack.

We hung out a bit and ordered food from Zea’s through DoorDash. I actually like grits now! How crazy.

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Meribo | Covington, Louisiana | Michelle & Mellie Dee

At night Michelle and I had a girls night. We made different stops but due to the how busy all of them were, we ended up at Meribo and I am not disappointed. We had the biggest bowl of brussel sprout appetizer ever that I ended up having it with a total of four meals. And their pasta was great. I told her if I ever visited I wouldn’t mind coming here again.

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Max | Bubble Bath

Jack and Claire got the stomach bug from school and so we stopped by Walgreens and picked up some meds. Max finally came out and said hi and I took my first real bath while watching Mother’s Day.

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee & Dexter | Skooter's Grill | Madisonville, Louisiana

Saturday morning I found out that Matt and Michelle were all throwing up too. I kinda knew that would happen. I hung out with Dexter, watched and finished Never Had I Ever and ate lunch through Door Dash by Skooter’s. I was surprised by how much they gave and the food was very delicious.

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Jack, Dexter

I took a nap then went to Target to pick up some things for them. Came back and made chicken noodle soup for Jack and played with him a bit. When I went to the bathroom, Dexter followed me and Jack tried to shove toys (train track) under the door and started crying because I was in the bathroom. Haha

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Max & Dexter | Felix's Restaurant and Oyster Bar | Mandeville, Louisiana

Later that night I ordered food from Felix’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar through Uber Eats. Super expensive and not a good portion size. But it was good enough to keep me full. Max came to say hi but always at a distance and Dexter scared me because he was in my room chilling and I didn’t even know.

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | ER with Michelle

This morning Michelle and I went to the ER since she was feeling a lot of pressure and since she had the stomach bug, most likely dehydrated. Luckily they checked her out and she was all good.

2021 | Week 70 of Quarantine | Frog | Skooter's | Madisonville, Louisiana | MSY to IAH

We went back to the house, ordered Skooter’s again as I finished watching TVB’s Sinister Beings. I got to finally see a baby frog (they croak a lot at night) as we walked out the door to the airport. Michelle took me and it was nice to have a good hour with her again before leaving. My flight got delayed but luckily I’ve finally landed and am on my shuttle to my car.

We obviously didn’t do much and it sucked everyone was sick but I’m glad I didn’t get sick. But most importantly glad I got to spend time with Michelle. 3 years until she moves back home! #fingerscrossed

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Waco Family Trip

June 20, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Local Table | Katy, Texas | Beth

Wednesday, I had plans to get dinner with Mallory and Beth at Local Table. Sadly, Mallory couldn’t go since Jacob ended up not feeling well.

First time Beth and I hung out alone together and I very much enjoyed our conversation while enjoying delicious foods. We both shared things to one another we never really opened up to many people about so it was nice being vulnerable together.

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Waco, Texas | Nitelight Donuts and Coffee

Friday morning the whole family started our drives to Waco. We stopped to get McDonald’s breakfast and once we arrived to Waco we picked up some cronuts from Nightlight. They were even good after being in the fridge a day plus later!

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Waco, Texas | Airbnb

Our view of the backyard. And all the free drinks the last group left over. Saved us a bit of money not needing to buy much.

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Waco, Texas | Mac House

My car went to HEB and picked up some weekend goods while Brudda’s car went and picked up lunch from Mac House. Their menu is very limited and doesn’t taste as good by the time we were back at the Airbnb to eat.

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Waco, Texas | Emmy, Ethan, Rizzo, Bruno, Kato

After eating we all jumped into the pool and had a blast racing. We put each kid in a float while Sissy and I rickshaw raced from one end of the pool to the other. Winner was obviously me every time with Emmy in my rickshaw.

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Waco, Texas | Moroso Wood Fire Pizzeria

After swimming Sissy and I went to Target then picked up food from Moroso. Pizza and risotto. Their risotto was bomb but everything else was just okay. This place was popping though when we picked up our food so must be one of the better food places.

We enjoyed ice creams and mochi ice creams we picked up from Target then all headed to bed.

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Waco, Texas | Magnolia

Saturday morning we left and headed to the Magnolia Silos and Market. We walked around mostly because we were waiting for our table at Magnolia Table.

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Waco, Texas | Emmy & Mellie Dee | Magnolia Table

While we waited for our food I brought out the glow in the dark tattoos and Emmy chose everyone’s. Something to keep her entertained.

The food came but nothing to special to write home about. Mostly busy due to Chip and Joanna Gaines being famous else, I douby it’d be a hyped up place. Also our food was super cold but our server was perfect!

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Waco, Texas | Kindle, Watermelon Margarita, Blasian Asian, Marvel Card Game

Back to the house where I enjoyed some fine reading and swims with everyone. I went with SIL to pick up dinner from Blasian Asian whole Sissy made watermelon margaritas. Since a lot of people had leftovers we didn’t order as much food. Yay for cleaning out the fridge!

Sissy, BIL, Brudda and I played a few rounds of Marvel card game before calling it a night. But at 3am I got a phone call from our security system that our alarm went off. And my car decided to leave early but no worries. All is good!

2021 | Week 66 of Quarantine | Sushihana

Getting back early meant a lot of relaxing time. I went grocery shopping with Mum and June and we ordered different foods from different places. The sashimi hit the spot.

It was a nice trip where our family was finally able to be together in the same house for the weekend and I won’t take it for granted.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | A Week in San Antonio

May 23, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | Daily Coffee by Patricia

My work days begin with a cup of coffee made by Patricia every morning. It’s not a bad way to start the day and makes me wonder if I ever end up with someone, would they do the same. Something to keep in mind, I’m not a big fan of coffee unless it’s a latte and she came through for me. All the mugs were different too. Can you guess which one is my favourite?

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | Sari-Sari Filipino Restaurant | HEB Meals

Monday was a pretty chill day. I ordered lunch from Sari-Sari Filipino Restaurant. It’s been on my list of places to try since day one. It’s opened by one of my old collegemates from when we were in FTK. Their lumpia and lechon were amazing and I would order again in a heartbeat even though I feel they are a little overpriced. The rice and Kare-Kare was a little on the miss side. The peanut soupiness was not flavourful enough and was very bland. The peanut butter didn’t come out enough. The rice was also mushy and with the stew it made it a big ole no-no. But I had it for lunch a few other days because no waste over here.

For dinner, we had bought some HEB meals to make and it came out great. We watched Thunder Force before heading off to bed.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | 54th Street Restaurant & Drafthouse with Doug and Patricia

On Tuesday, Moises and Emily got me a poke bowl from Hula Poke for dinner but I saved it for breakfast for a couple of days since Patricia and I had plans to see Doug. We met at 54th Street Restaurant where we had not so great old fashions, tater kegs, dressed roasted Brussel sprouts, and rattlesnake pasta.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | Rock and Rye with Patricia & Doug

We then went to Rock and Rye for real old fashions. Note for Patricia in the future — she likes the Pimms drink because she couldn’t figure out what she liked from here and made the guy keep guessing.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | Toro | Amy, Thuy & Chloe

On Wednesday, we all took a bit of a half day from work. Patricia and I met up with Amy and Thuy. We finally got to meet Chloe and she is the CUTEST. Her back bends made us laugh SO much.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | Toro Tapas with Patricia, Amy, Thuy & Chloe

We ordered the WHOLE menu at Toro — or it felt like we did. Huevos Rotos, Patatas Bravas, Champinoes Lugo, Tacos de Cochinita Pibil, Calamares Fritos, Toro Pallea, Valencia Gin, Red Sangria Pitcher, Torrijas a la mode.

This is my new favourite tapas place. Why does it have to be so far away?! I definitely want to come back here next time and try their other stuff.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | Thuy's with Amy, Patricia, Mellie Dee | Ube Crinkle Cookies & Pop Tarts

We went to Thuy’s afterward so that she could put Chloe away. Patricia worked while Amy, Thuy and I sat and had girl talk and caught up a lot. It was nice. Thuy even made us Ube Crinkle Cookies and Ube Pop Tarts. All delicious.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | El Mirasol with Andy, Jakob, Amy, Patricia

Later that day Patricia stopped by James Avery and then we headed off to El Marisol where we met up with Andy, Jakob, and Amy.

There is too much food that I don’t know what everyone ordered … and Andy’s is not even in the picture. But EVERY SINGLE thing was good. I was lucky enough to try them all and it sent me in a whirlwind of wanting to come back next time.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | El Mirasol | Andy, Jakob, Amy, Patricia Texting

I made a joke that I drove 3 hours for them to be on their phone while they spent time with me.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | El Mirasol | Andy, Jakob, Amy, Patricia, Mellie Dee

But overall, lots of new memories were made.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | Bovinos Churrascaria with Patricia

On Thursday, Patricia had made reservations for Bovino’s Brazilian Steakhouse. We did the seafood choice and it was somewhat worth it since I ate some of Patricia’s too. I would be fine with just the meat and salad bar choice since the salad bar had an amazing fish ceviche!

When the server asked if we were here for a special occasion, Patricia told them it was for my birthday and so we were surprised with a show and a free cake. Probably one of my favourite cakes now because it wasn’t sweet at all.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | La Cantera | Patricia & Mellie Dee

Since we overate — mostly me — we walked around the closed La Cantera and took lots of pictures to commemorate our time together.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | Emmy & Mellie Dee Video, Patricia Lasik, McAllisters, Las Palapas

On Friday, we ordered McAllister’s and I had a video chat with Emmy. She said she loves my hair and wants hers to be purple and pink too. haha Dad was not too happy with that conversation.

I then took Patricia to her Lasik surgery appointment. I took care of her and then Andy, Ana, and Amy came over. Amy came first and we were able to have one on one conversation and it was what I’ve been missing. Whenever you hang out with a group, it’s hard to have in depth conversations with each individual so I was happy that we had that time together.

We ordered dinner from Las Palapas and Andy and Ana were nice enough to pick it up for us. We then watched What a Girl Wants. Andy and Ana had never seen it and I loved watching their reactions. Patricia fell asleep on the couch while Amy and I planned our trip. We ended up choosing Charleston and Patricia will be joining us as well. Cannot wait! Planning has begun.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | San Antonio | Ida Claire with Patricia

Saturday morning, Patricia had to go to her next day Lasik check up so we went there and the drug store to pick up some eye drops for her. She was doing so well she ended up driving and even was down to go to Ida Claire for brunch.

This place has been on my list since forever and I was ecstatic! Mimosas in orange juice and grapefruit juice, French Press coffee, Nashville Cauliflower, Gristmill Asiago Grits, Chicken & Waffles, and Ida’s Fried Chicken – Nashville style.

Seriously thankful for our server for letting me know that I could Nashville style the fried chicken because I was between that and the Nashville chicken made a different way. I am so coming back here next time I’m back. I had a lot leftover, packed it to go and ate it for breakfast this morning after making some sunny side eggs.

2021 | Week 62 of Quarantine | Hot Pot | Rocky, Rizzo, Mellie Dee

I spent some time taking naps and waking up then left back to Houston. I was greeted with hot pot for dinner. Lots of veggies as requested.

Rizzo loved having cuddle time and Rocky even came and slept on my bed for a long time.

It’s Sunday. Workout, Charleston trip planning, bachelorette planning, and lots of Rizzo cuddles. I’m so pooped. It was a great week filled with great friends and laughter. So many new memories made.

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Dewberry Farms, Crawfish Boil, & Kemah Boardwalk

May 9, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Frankenstein | La Centerra | Bar Louie

I started off the week by taking off a couple of hours early on Monday. I met up with Frankenstein at La Centerra. We walked around to different shops and ended up at Bar Louie. Drinks and apps before heading home since Emmy had Kumon online. We had gone to a spice and tea shop and I bought some pretty awesome blueberry black tea leaves.

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Mallory & Mellie Dee | Blood Donation | Tacos El Grande

After work Wednesday, Mallory and I donated blood. Her neighborhood was having a blood drive with a Star Wars themed shirt giveaway. She ALWAYS finishes before me no matter what order we go in.

I stopped by Tacos El Grande since it was Cinco de Mayo for some tacos with consume. It wasn’t bad but I think I would like it better if the consume was a little thicker so that it could adhere to the taco better. I know, I know, that’s now how it’s suppose to be, but it’s how I’d prefer it.

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Emmy, JJ, Jacob, Mellie Dee | Mary Jo Peckham Park

Thursday, I took off a couple of hours early again and took Emmy on a playdate with JJ at Mary Jo Peckham park. Emmy walked too close to the edge and ended up having a wet shoe/sock. Luckily she didn’t freak out too much. They liked messing with the ducks so much we had to leave. We went over to Mallory’s where we played on the playset and had popsicles. She met some of JJ’s friends and wouldn’t top talking about it when we got home.

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Dewberry Farms | Mallory, Beth, JJ, Jacob, Connor, Mellie Dee

Friday, I took Emmy to Dewberry Farms. We met up with Mallory, JJ, Jacob, Beth and Connor. We did SO many activities that I was pooped. I cannot wait for Connor to be more grown so that they could all play together and maybe I’ll bring Ethan as well in the future.

It was sad since it was the last time they’d see each other since Emmy was leaving. Their conversation was the cutest. It went something along the lines of:

Emmy: I have to go back to Dallas.
JJ: Why do you live so far?
Emmy: We need to move closer
JJ: Next time I see you I’m going to slap it (slime Mallory bought) on your face.
Emmy: OK! Hold my hand.
JJ: Come back soon.

And then they proceeded to be sad. They hugged goodbye and did a group hug with Mallory at the end. It was the cutest. Mallory, Beth and I all got matching Dewberry Farm shirts as well. Can’t wait to be matchy matchy with them!

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Emmy | Petland | Freddy's

After we got home, Emmy took a nap and Brudda, SIL, and Jenny arrived from Dallas. We went to Hobby Lobby and got some Freddy’s. We stopped by Petland as well and played with THE cutest goldendoodle. He kept eating Emmy’s dress and although it’s bad, it was the cutest!

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Katrina's Birthday

Saturday, we stopped by Grandma’s to wish her a Happy Mother’s Day, then headed over to Katrina’s birthday party. It was a small party but it was nice to be in a house full of family again.

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Mellie Dee, Emmy, Ethan, Crawfish | Mother's Day & Birthday

Parents got us 2 GIANT bags of crawfish. There were A LOT of leftovers. This is the first time our family were all in the same house eating together at the same table. It’s also the first time in a long time that everyone chipped in to help. I’ve mastered the Viet Cajun sauce and am estatic that everyone loved it. I think it’s too salty so there’s still tweaking but overall, it was a BIG hit. BIL even took some home!

I’ve always wanted a cute cake to celebrate my birthday so I was very happy to see a unicorn ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. Definitely not the norm and it made Emmy and I VERY happy. Glad to have everyone together with me. I am blessed.

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Jenny & Mellie Dee

Jenny and I don’t have much one on one time together since we graduated so it was nice that she came and stayed a few days and even celebrated my birthday with me. We were able to catch up and we did some bachelorette planning with SIL.

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Ethan, Emmy, Mellie Dee, Rizzo

Ethan and Emmy left this morning. I’m sad. The house is so quiet but they’ll be back in June! Rizzo hasn’t had much sleep since they’ve came so he’s been sleeping A LOT. He’s knocked out as I’m typing this.

2021 | Week 60 of Quarantine | Frankenstein | Mellie Dee | Kemah Boardwalk

After they left, I grabbed Starbucks and met up with Frankenstein. We went to Kemah Boardwalk – such perfect weather. We walked to various stores and we played some arcade games again. We got matching bracelets. The two coins were worth 10 tickets but we (I) decided to keep them because memories.

It rained for a little bit but we made shelter inside the Aquarium where we went to feed the stingrays. We both chickened out after one and gave the rest to the kids next to us. We just petted one instead and called it a day. We then had a late lunch at Bakkhus, a Greek restaurant. Their lamb shank and grits were freaking amazing. I wouldn’t mind going back for that. Then we walked around the lighthouse area before heading back and calling it a day.

It’s been a very eventful week and weekend. I’m tired but the memories will stay with me forever and totally worth it.

2021 | Week 58 of Quarantine | US Golf & Games, Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, Loch Bar | Houston, Texas

April 25, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 58 of Quarantine | Emmy & Rizzo Walks, Mellie Dee

We did some swell walks with Rizzo and Emmy. There were some days that weren’t good for walking but overall I think it went well. I put Emmy’s hair in a crazy bun like my own and she’s in love with it. Everyone says she looks great with it too.

2021 | Week 58 of Quarantine | US Golf & Games | Frankenstein

Thursday night I met up with Frankenstein at US Golf & Games at eight. The place is in a not so great area but we made due with what they offered. We played basketball, putt putt, skeeball, and various arcade games like Mrs. Pac Man and Jurassic Park shooting. We also tried doing baseball but it was too slow and practically at our dollar.

Speaking of baseball, I went and tripped over a few bats as we were leaving. Yep, this is me, y’all!

We had given our tickets to the little boy next to us but when it started clearing out we kept our tickets and I went and got a duckie and snake. I said it was for Emmy, but it isn’t. The guy at the counter let Frankenstein get the same even though we didn’t have enough tickets. I wonder what he did with his toys.

2021 | Week 58 of Quarantine | Emmy, JJ, Jacob, John | Sparkle Wine

Friday, I ended up working and then took Emmy to play at JJ’s. The first picture kills me because she literally sat there waiting for me to get off work so we could go.

All smiles, so much fun was had. Mallory and I had some wine that sparkles rose gold which was pretty cool.

JJ showed her his pokemon card collection as well as his new playground set. Emmy wasn’t a big fan of bugs and I’m certain JJ only remembers her wailing about them as he “killer” them for her.

Over 3 hours later we had to leave. The cutest thing happened. JJ went over to Mallory and said something along the lines of, Emmy is leaving and I’m sad. It’s crazy how they weren’t playing together in the beginning but ended up they were both sad to say goodbye.

2021 | Week 58 of Quarantine | Emmy | Hobby Lobby, Whole Foods, World Market

Saturday morning, to get out of the house, I took Emmy to Hobby Lobby, Whole Foods and World Market. She was hungry but she LOVED shopping and asked if we could go to one more store. This girl is crazy.

2021 | Week 58 of Quarantine | Emmy | Cornelius Nursery, Target, Zero Degrees

After dinner Emmy, Mum, June and I went to Cornelius Nursery and Target. Mum and June went to Fiesta while Emmy and I went and got drinks at Zero Degrees.

She ended up drinking pretty much all the pink and purple drinks. She said we had to share which is true but she hasn’t learned to not take all of everything. Slow and steady … She’ll get there.

2021 | Week 58 of Quarantine | Automatic Hair Curler

There was a sale for an automatic hair curler and I snagged one. I was tired after doing a few strands since my hair is so long but this morning I went and did my whole hair for testing purposes and it’s worth it. I just need to cut my hair though so it’ll finish quicker.

2021 | Week 58 of Quarantine | Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Frankenstein

I met Frankenstein at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center at noon. We walked for over three hours until I had to call it a day on walking. I went and got us palletas: watermelon for me and a passion fruit mango, I believe for him. So perfect due to the hotness.

I had my own water bottle and he kept it in his backpack with his water. I didn’t find out until I finished my water bottle that he had one for me too! I’m over here conserving my own when I could have drank so much more. We walked around their Nature Center as well and then decided on a whim to get drinks and snacks.

2021 | Week 58 of Quarantine | Loch Bar | Houston, Texas | Frankenstein

We ended up at the Loch Bar .. the fancy area, Rover Oaks. We were both in workout gear so I felt a little awkward but we both ended up getting two old fashioned each and shared the pork belly and mussels appetizers. We talked about so many random things and by the time I looked at my watch, it was flashing six pm. We bid farewell and I headed home.

I went home to an Emmy asking why I was gone so long. Sadly after my shower I started getting chills and now I’m just hot all over. Definitely red from the sun. He had sunscreen in his backpack too. I should have reapplied. Hoping I’ll feel better tomorrow.

2021 | Week 58 of Quarantine | Emmy, Ethan, Rizzo, Rocky, Mellie Dee

So much Emmy and Ethan time was had this week. I’m hoping work won’t go over too late again so I have even more time with them. I will say Ethan is not a fan of my curled hair and would scream. So weird. He probably thinks I’m someone else.
