Survey #5

May 23, 2013 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

I’m currently in San Antonio. Sucks since a lot of people are off on their summer vacation. But all is good. I only want to hang out with some of them anyway … just kidding.

Hope you all have a great weekend! I’ll try my hardest to get on but you know how it is.

Saw this on Hollie’s blog a long while back and since I haven’t done much of a know me type deal, here I go.

Age: recently turned 24! One of the best birthday ever! Thank you to everyone that spent it with me!

Bed Size: Sissy finally gave me her bed … hello Full size. Diagonal sleeping. 🙂

Chore You Hate: I don’t like chores. I weirdly rather clean other people’s shiet then my own.

Dogs? My parents have Rocky. Sissy and BIL have Bruno. Brother and Tammy have Krypto and Pluto. I have none. One day though!

Essential Start Your Day Item: Glasses. I’m blind as a bat.

Favorite Color: I don’t have one. I love all colors equally?

Gold or Silver? Jewelry wise … silver.

Height: 5’7.

Instruments You Play: Violin. Guitar … ish. Just certain songs.

Job: For an oil company.

Kids: I have none. But I’m ready for my siblings to start. *winkSISSYwink*

Live: Houston. But currently in San Antonio.

Mom’s Name:  Joyce.

Nicknames: Cripple.

Overnight Hospital Stays? Never. And hopefully it stays that way.

Pet Peeve: People saying they’ll do something … but end up not.

Quote from a Movie: “To protect the sheep you gotta catch the wolf, and it takes a wolf to catch a wolf.” – Training Day

Right or Left Handed? Right. But I can be ambidextrous if needed.

Siblings: 1 sissy. 1 brother.

Time You Wake Up? 5:15 at the latest for work.

Underwear:  I don’t wear underwear. JK. That’s gross. Yes I like underwear.

Vegetable You Dislike: Bitter melon and celery.

What Makes You Run Late: Netflixing. The dog whenever I have to take care of one. Internet stuff.

X-Rays You’ve Had Done: Teeth-ers. And all my injuries got a shot at it too.

Yummy Food You Make: I guess baking is my thing?

Zoo Animal: Monkeys!

[2013] 011/365: And Liebster Award Goes To …

February 20, 2013 by Mellie Dee 14 Comments

2013-02-20-19-59-32_deco

A few months ago, I took Mum to Whole Foods so she can see why I love quinoa so much. She got hooked and made her first batch today! Ah happy day. It was delicious. I was asked a few days ago what quinoa tastes like … but I have no clue how to describe it. Anyone have a proper description of the taste?

*********************************

liebsterblogaward

I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award by a gorgeous girl who’s a Texan like me! Everyone meet Blake from Steady Three Sixty and send her some love! If I get nominated every time, best bet I’ll do them all the best I can. These are so fun to me!! Thanks, Blake!

RULES:
1. Link back to the person who nominated you
2. Write 11 facts about yourself once nominated
3. Answer 11 questions from the person who nominated you
4. Come up with 11 question for the 11 people you nominate

11 FACTS ABOUT MOI

Wall-E

  1. One of the best things ever created: sporks. I want a real stainless steal one that works REALLY well. I would use it ALL THE TIME. Remember Wall-E trying to figure out where to put his spork? Teehee so cute!
  2. I’ve been told I’m “too nice”. I like to believe everyone’s good and they don’t have some kind of ulterior motive. Sometimes that backfires. If you’re honest and loyal to me, I will be one of the bestest friends you’ll ever have. (Not to toot my own horn or anything.)
  3. Speaking of loyalty and honesty, I have trust issues. I’m very cautious in opening up. And once you break that trust, adios.
  4. I’ve only truly liked three wines and I don’t know the name to any of them. Therefore, I’m still on the hunt for my favorite wine.
  5. If someone’s talking and it’s a few words put together that reminds me of a song, I start singing or humming it.
  6. I’ve been told I’m picky with guys and that’s why I’m single. I’d like to believe that’s false. No one likes a fat girl.
  7. My all time favorite song is Scars by Papa Roach. I can relate to that song since it’s been out.
  8. One of my favorite pastimes is watching Chinese Drama. They’re sometimes cheesy and have bad actors but I love them. Keeps me in touch with where I came from.
  9. I dislike feet. Keep them to yourself.
  10. I wish I was a real singer/songwriter. I don’t care if I was sell-out-a-stadium famous. I’d just want to do it for the fun of it and meet amazing people along the way.
  11. I sleep with 7 pillows and three blankets. I don’t sleep ON all 7 pillows and definitely don’t cover myself with 3 blankets. I just like to be cradled by softness.

QUESTIONS FROM BLAKE

  1. Do you have tattoos? If so, what is your latest one? If not, would you ever get one? What would it be? I don’t have a tattoo, but it’ll be cool to get a sibling tattoo. Not sure what it’ll be though. If one for just myself, possibly a bow tattoo. I love bows. They’re so cute!
  2. Would you rather cut your hair to the tops of your ears or not shave your legs for six months? Not shave my legs. My leg hairs don’t grow out that fast. Plus, I can just wear pants/jeans! If I cut my hair that short, I’d look like a fat boy.
  3. What is your favorite month of the year? I’ve never really thought about it. I guess I’d say May since it’s my birthday month … and if I was still in college, it means summer break.
  4. If you could only drink water and one other liquid for the rest of your life, what other drink would you choose? Tea. Tea. Tea. Hot tea to be exact.
  5. What is one of your goals you hope to achieve by 2014? Pay off more than half my loans! Lose a few billion pounds. Check out my 2013 resolutions.
  6. What is a TV show that your parents didn’t let you watch when you were little, but you watched it anyway behind their backs? Tom & Jerry. Mum said it was to violent … which it kind of is if you think about it. It worked wonderfully … Brother and I would turn the sound off (since they never talk anyway).
  7. What does your dream house look like? I don’t really have a dream house. I think it’s because I’m not ready to settle down – no boyfriend or anything. Maybe a townhouse/apartment for now. But I would love to decorate it all pretty. Pinterest has been helping me out with that.
  8. If someone paid you ten dollars every day you left the house without any makeup on, how many days would you go out without makeup? I can go forever without makeup. I love makeup. I collect ‘em. But I’ll be fine never having to wear it. So I guess I’d be so rich. Who wants to pay me? I’ll definitely finish paying off my loans easily.
  9. Tell us a story about how you embarrassed yourself in front of your crush in high school. If you don’t have one to tell, describe what would have been the most embarrassing thing to happen. In Orchestra, we usually climb up the cabinets (used to put string instruments) to put up posters on the wall. We tend to jump off after we’re done … I slipped and hit my head on the adjacent cabinet and fell on my ass.
  10. If your job asked you to relocate to the middle of nowhere, would you happily go? Does the middle of nowhere imply there are no people or stores around? If so, probably not. But if it’s like Midland, Texas or something of that sort, yeah of course. They pay so much better too!
  11. What is your favorite thing about the summer season? When I was in college, I’d say the break. Being able to not go to school daily. Now I kind of wished I did. Hmm … Sundress. I don’t wear them much but they’re so cute.

On The Outside Looking In

August 29, 2012 by Mellie Dee 7 Comments

If you’re a follower of Alex’s blog, this might sound familiar. I had this written to post on the special day but she beat me to the punch! We are so alike!

It’s a long post so it’s okay if you skip it and only read the memes but if you read it all, I’ll send you a virtual cookie.

Today’s the first day of classes for my Alma Mater. It’s kind of bizarre not going back to school after being in it for forever. Everyone’s reunited and it’s so strange that I am not. Some people love work more but I miss those last couple years of college. That’s when I found people I actually felt comfortable being myself around. Maybe this will change after a few more months but for now, that’s how it feels to me.

I’ve been told I get along with everyone. Walking down the halls or through campus, I would see someone I know or they would see me and we would exchanges “hellos” to the point where I was dubbed “popular”.

They cannot be more wrong.

source

If y’all don’t know by now, I immigrated from Hong Kong so in pre-school, I didn’t understand English. But was able to still make friends. I guess when you’re a kid all you had to do was share crayons.

When elementary came, still not fully understanding English, kids jumped at the chance to be my friend. Maybe because they’ve never seen a little Chinese girl before? I don’t know.

It’s weird how it happened as well. All the cool kids were in another classroom yet I got along with them during lunch, recess, and arts. Guess sharing your jump rope with the girls and playing basketball with the boys helped, too.

I still felt like an outsider though since the lack of English puts you in a barrier.

source

After 4th grade, my parents told me I get to finish 5th before moving to somewhere else in Houston. But shit happens and I didn’t get to do my 5th grade with my friends I grew up with. I didn’t get to say goodbye. I lost them all.

It was hard making new friends at a new place going into 5th grade when everyone already had their own friends. I got really shy but met Manvi on the bus and we became instant best friends. We even had best friend gems. We’re not best friends anymore but for some reason, we both still have our gems and talk about it whenever we bump into one another. I met some of her friends and made some of my own.

After elementary ended, my cousin, Timothy who was in the same grade as me, told me I hung out with the popular kids and was surprised. Really? … Uh … Okay.

Middle school happened. More than half the people from 5th grade went to a different middle school so I had to yet again make new friends. I got even more shy. I didn’t talk a lot in and out of class except for orchestra since Timothy and my brother were in that class with me but I got along with everyone and would know anyone that walked down the hall. I had classes with some football players, basketball players, cheerleaders, etc. and we got along well. But I was still reserved.

I was told I was friends with the populars. So why didn’t I feel that way? I still felt like the awkward kid.

source

High school came and less than 1/4th of my middle school went to my high school. Everyone else went to the high school that was 3 minutes away from my house. Sometimes school districts suck at zoning. My commute was 10 minutes to school … and that’s without traffic.

Shy yet again I kept to myself most of the time but as the days went on, I started making new friends naturally. Being in basketball and orchestra helped a lot. Sophomore year I broke through my shell and got all crazy and met a lot of people . Everyone seemed to know me. Yet I still didn’t feel like I fit in. But people who walked with me felt I was because I knew anyone I passed by in the halls.

When I finally thought I found some great friends who I never want to leave, college came. We all went to different colleges and it got kind of hard to keep in touch. Even with Facebook, things were different. If someone doesn’t want to make the effort, it doesn’t work. I’m still friends with some of them and they are now my bestest. I would not change that for the world.

It took a while but I started to make friends in college. Went through many of them if you ask me. College is a place you grow and find yourself … some people never grew up and I didn’t want to stay through the immaturity.

source

Throughout all those years, I never felt I fit in no matter how much I tried with whatever group I was in. I was told I was “popular” but I felt like the kid from the outside looking in. I was never in the “in” crowd. I was never popular. I just knew a lot of people. That is all.

I never felt like I fit in until the end of college. I found people in my life I could finally be myself (other than the ones I could obviously before) because they believed in the same things as me and didn’t care how weird I was, I hope.

Now I’m at my new job trying hard to stay in touch with them. But it’s hard when they don’t reciprocate. It’s even harder to make friends now because all you do is work. Hopefully some workers become my real life friends but that’s unlikely.

I’m thankful for the friends that text me or message me or email me through the weeks … it makes work more bearable and shows that they care. I’m actually grateful that I’m reconnecting with some of my good friends from high school. It feels great. I’m not sure where it’s going but I hope they’re here to stay.

source

I’m glad I got over the phase of trying to fit in because no matter where I’m at, I know I have the bestest.

Price texted me the other day that he’s too busy working and getting his MBA to make friends and stay in touch with them. My response? I’ve been through that. All through high school and college. So I learned.

To me, if they really truly are your friends, no matter how long you’ve been distant, they’ll always be there because they know you’re working towards your future that defines the rest of your life. Real friends will always be your friend. No matter how long. It’s that simple.

With Price it’s been 6 years give or take and we can still hold a conversation when I saw him again at Alyssa’s wedding.

Same goes with blogger friends. I’m always here for y’all! Even if we never met. Winking smile

That’s the end of my reflection. Hope you all have a great hump day! And for those starting school today or have school, hope it went well. Enjoy it while you can!

P.S. If you were wondering, Manvi went to all the same schools as me … even college. Bizarre, right? We’re not close anymore but it’s always nice when we see each other.
