Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo

May 28, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Rodeo Houston. HLSR. All ways to call the annual event downtown filled with booths of food, livestock shows, and performances.

On March 15th (16th?) me, Brudda, Dad, Sissy, and her boyfriend, Brett went for the festivities. Then me, Brudda, Mum, Dad, and June went again Friday, the 18th.

Houston Rodeo | Shrimp Dinner

Shrimp Dinner [friend shrimp and fries]

The fried shrimps were decent but the fries were a big win – mushy and crunchy all at the same time.

Houston Rodeo | Turkey Leg

Turkey Leg

I got three bites of turkey leg before I gave up. I’m not a big fan of them but somehow my family was able to finish three together.

Houston Rodeo | Margarita

Strawberry & Lime Swirl Margarita

I had a marg the other night and though they went a little heavy with the alcohol, I recommended it to my parents. They were the opposite and wished for more alcohol in it. Either they had one with less alcohol or they’re alcoholics.

Houston Rodeo | Funnel Cake

Funnel Cake

I always crave funnel cakes and always tell myself I’ll make it at home but I never do. They have options to add toppings for a cost but June and I only wanted powdered sugar which is included in the plain. PERFECT.

Houston Rodeo | Dippin' Dots

Dippin’ Dots

I tried to get a picture of Brudda’s Dippin Dots but he kept moving it around. Annoying. This reminds me of Schlitterbahn days when we would go with the orchestra and eat these little balls of ice cream.

Houston Rodeo | Caramel Popcorn

Caramel Popcorn

I pretty much come to carnivals so that I can get a caramel popcorn bag to go. If you’ve never had any before, you’re missing out. Get a life! I want to learn to make this but it seems like a sticky situation.

I suggest everyone to go to the Rodeo if you’ve never been. Gaining weight is the best!

Star Ice & Teriyaki | Houston, Texas

Star Ice & Teriyaki | Houston, Texas

Family day continued to Herman Park then Star Ice & Teriyaki for lunch.

Star Ice & Teriyaki | Houston, Texas | #12 Beef Noodle Soup

#12 Beef Noodle Soup | $4.75

I’m usually not a big fan of this dish since the noodles are either under-cooked or too overcooked and the meat is usually tough. I was shocked. The noodles had the right bounce to it and the meat was super tender. It’s one of their most known dishes and now I know why.

Star Ice & Teriyaki | Houston, Texas | #29 Spicy Squid (Fried)

#29 Spicy Squid (Fried) | $3.00

Little fried critters are always a fan favourite. Usually squid comes out chewy but this was perfect with just the right crunchy texture on the outside.

Star Ice & Teriyaki | Houston, Texas | #2 Beef Teriyaki

#2 Beef Teriyaki | $4.28

My first thought when they brought this out was that I wouldn’t be full from it but boy was I wrong. Definitely enough food for one especially since we did other other things to share.

Star Ice & Teriyaki | Houston, Texas | #37 Spicy Chicken Nuggets

#37 Spicy Chicken Nuggets | $3.00

Just like the squid but with moist, tender chicken inside. It went really well with the rice.

This is a great place to go to when you just want a quick snack. They have tapioca drinks as well but we didn’t bother with that.

The Breakfast Klub | Houston, Texas

The Breakfast Klub | Houston, Texas

March 16th, Mum, Brudda, Dad, and I had a family day and ate at The Breakfast Klub. It’s a well-known place so it’s a must try, right?

The Breakfast Klub | Houston, Texas | Chicken and Waffles

Wings ‘N Waffles

Definitely correct! I am in love, love, love with this famous dish. No words can really describe it so I’ll try my best. Their chicken wings were very crunchy on the outside and super moist on the inside. I’m not a big fan of pancakes or waffles but the waffle, oh my goodness the waffle – crispy and soft on the inside. Just spectacular! I want to go back, order it, and gobble it all up!

Buffalo Grille | Houston, Texas

Buffalo Grille | Houston, Texas | Menu

During Spring Break, we were all back home so we met up with Sissy in her area for breakfast at Buffalo Grille on March 13th.

Buffalo Grille | Houston, Texas | Chalkboard Menu

I don’t know what it is about chalkboard menus. They make me so happy. I want to have a chalkboard wall in my house in the future.

Buffalo Grille | Houston, Texas | Omelette

Build Your Own Omelet [3 eggs, bell pepper, onions, mushrooms, spinach, and sausage]

It starts off with three eggs and a side of bread for $3.60. Add $0.65 for each veggie and $0.95 for each meat, cheese, or sauce. Overall for me adding so much extras, the outcome was bland. If you’re trying to eat healthy, this is the place for you.

Buffalo Grille | Houston, Texas | Hashbrowns

Hashbrowns

Instead of the side of bread, I upgraded it to hashbrowns for a dollar. If you haven’t noticed my love for potatoes yet you must be new here. But my goodness, save your dollar. These were paper thin and dry. A butt-load of ketchup still made it hard to go down.

Sissy praised this place so much that I thought we just had high expectations but even she agreed that it was horrible this time. Maybe I’ll be nice and give it another go one day but … ugh.

Fish City Grill | San Antonio, Texas

April 8, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Tammy came to visit on the 5th of March and we decided we wanted some crawfish. I was craving some good ole oyster nachos so we headed to Fish City Grill.

Fish City Grill | San Antonio, Texas | Oyster Nachos

Oyster Nachos [tortilla chips with fried oysters, chipotle tartar sauce & topped with fresh pico de gallo]

Mmm … if you aren’t sure of what to get, you have to get these for sure! They are an explosion in your mouth. I get it almost every single time I’m here.

Fish City Grill | San Antonio, Texas | Crawfish Bucket

This is the bucket they gave us for our crawfish trash. It smelled really metally.

Fish City Grill | San Antonio, Texas | Crawfish

Three Pounds Crawfish

Here is my 3 lb Crawfish. So delicious! They spice it up really well.

Fish City Grill | San Antonio, Texas | Corn & Potato

They also give you sides of potatoes and corn but they weren’t seasoned well like the crawfish.

I love this place for oyster nachos. A must try!
