Wedding Dress Galore

August 17, 2012 by Mellie Dee 3 Comments

Before I start talking about my day I just want to say … seriously, sometimes I feel like everyone’s reading my blog. Upon writing last night’s post about being thankful for friends who keep in touch with you and whatnot, my little, Jennifer S., IMed me. Coincidence? … I hope so. But she is the sweetest and though we didn’t get to spend a lot of time together the years we were at the same school, we always made sure to keep in touch and hopefully that stays the same.

And then I got to Skype with Patricia. Sadly, Shayna was already asleep. But it was nice being able to catch up with Patricia. Talked about boys (what else), work, and music. I seriously miss being in San Antonio. I wonder how different things would have been if I was to have stayed there instead of back here in Houston.

I told her about dreaming of moving back to Hong Kong and work for the company that I’m with there. I work for a big company and they’re all around the world. And she was pretty “angry” that I was willing to move to Hong Kong for a job, but not for San Antonio. I have to say though, I have family in Hong Kong so it’s different. I feel I have no one in San Antonio. Maybe things would be different if I had someone. HA

Jared texted me just now asking if I was wanting to grab a few drinks. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to since I haven’t seen him in almost 5 years but I am way too tired from a long day. The drive is at least 30 minutes give or take and I can’t even drink because I gave blood …

IMG_20120817_110427

I started off my day by doing a good deed. Donated blood! In my Instagram picture I said I was doing Platelets but it was actually Plasmas … whoops. And also RBCs (red blood cells). There was some complications on the return and blood pretty much leaked everywhere. Yeah, beautiful. I was only a few mL away to finishing RBCs so I was pretty unhappy that I wasn’t able to. My arm’s a little sore and a little bruised but in the end, I still saved some lives and that’s all that matters.

Since Sissy and I had the day off, Mum took a half day so we could try on wedding gowns! But more on that later. First, we feasted.

Buffalo Short Ribs [braised fall off the bone tender short ribs + 2 sides] | $11.95

I got my sides of steamed broccoli and roasted red potatoes. YUM!

It’s a tiny little shop located right next to a gym (smart!) so they get plenty of customers. And the food’s not bad at all. The short ribs was a little on the salty side though. But everything was pretty delicious. Read straight up not oily or filled with spices. I would love to come back again.

They also have breakfast served all day that they’re open. That’s what Mum ordered.

Then it was time for dress shopping!

Sissy looking at so many dang dresses. I’ve never seen so much white in my life. It was fun picking out some hideous ones. I wish she tried those on.

Sorry, no pictures of her actually trying them on. Just in case it’s the one she ends up with. But let me tell you, she looked so pretty! She tried on 7 or 8 in an hour and we were done.

I think she’s found the one. She went online afterward to look up which one she tried on and really liked. Then she even looked at some bridesmaid dresses. She’s still not sure if she’s doing that whole bridesmaid/groomsmen thing so we’ll see but I hope she does! Because then I have an excuse to buy a really, really pretty dress!

We stopped by McDonald’s on the way home. This would be my chocolate dipped ice cream cone. I’ve always wanted to try one and I finally got to! I was a happy camper. Definitely better tasting than a boring old ice cream cone … which is what Mum got. Sissy opted for a Iced Mocha or whatever.

It’s been a good day and this week has been pretty fabulous to me with everyone keeping in contact with me. I feel loved.

Home Sweet Home

July 27, 2012 by Mellie Dee 1 Comment

Bad blogger over here.

Did not take ANY pictures on the flights back cuz I was too tired to do anything. Plus, sitting on your ass for a good 15+ hours for one flight is hard enough … oh and not to mention a sweaty guy with big B.O. sitting next to me. Sorry, I don’t want to be mean but sitting next to someone like that for a good 15+ hours is hell.

I did however watch SEVEN movies while in air.

Yep. Seven.

  1. Race to Witch Mountain
  2. This Means War
  3. Welcome to the Riley’s
  4. One Day
  5. I Love Hong Kong 2012
  6. Glee: The 3D Concert Movie
  7. Coraline

I loved every single movie I watched. I cried in some of them. Embarrassing right? Crying on the plane … only me.

Whoever invented watching TV/Movies while flying is GENIUS! And the fact that it’s complimentary, you’ll be dumb not watching. Especially now with how plane tickets are CAH-RAZY!

I miss Hong Kong. I miss Macau. I miss Taiwan. And the people in it.

I am already planning on going back soon. Definitely NOT 15 years later like before.

I have 228 blog posts to go through in my Google Reader and as I type, it goes up a little at a time so late comments might occur. Beware.Winking smile

2012 Asia Trip | Day 22

July 26, 2012 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

Not a good day for pictures. I packed my bags and forgot to take my camera with me when I went out the door.

I had Dim Sum for brunch with PoPo and Mum. Then Mum and I went shopping and bought a lot of little things. Last day … had to buy, buy, buy!

After that, all I did was sleep and play on the computer. Very relaxing.

Dinner of Pigeon, intestines, veggies, and homemade soup. Going to miss PoPo’s cooking.

I’m up in the air right now flying high in the sky.

Next time I “talk” to y’all will be when I’m back in the states.

Peace and Love.

2012 Asia Trip | Day 21

The aftermath of the storm … not that bad over here but it’s worse other parts of Hong Kong.

IMG_8453IMG_8454IMG_8455IMG_8456

Ate at another Shanghai Restaurant … Shanghai Po Po Restaurant. Not as great as yesterdays but it was okay.

IMG_8457

Saw this view while walking in the mall. More aftermath cleaning up and people shopping and whatnot.

IMG_8472

Got a haircut … finally. This is the best picture I can show you … I didn’t take any except for this one.

I want to come back once a year for a haircut … from this place … by Brenda. YES.

Oh … and did I mention. When they wash your hair, they go through a long process? They put stuff in my hair and rinsed and repeated four times. And they massage your head. I’m not a great fan of it but dude … I almost fell asleep.

IMG_8463IMG_8464

We bought some piggie bread and cakes for Vincent and Alva since they had to go to work.

IMG_8473

Mum and I met Kathy at one of the subway stops. Then we went to Ladies’ Market. A place where people open their own shops on the streets and you can buy things. I went down the whole street but only a few things caught my eye … for other people.

IMG_8474IMG_8475

When we were leaving going to the subway, Mum wanted some fishballs so fishballs we got. And I finally got my STINKY TOFU! Real stinky tofu. Not like the ones in Taiwan where they were not stinky enough. Ah .. heaven.

(photo via)

Kathy bought me this little beauty … without letting me know! Samsung Galaxy S3. Sahweet! I cannot wait to physically use it. (I have to wait till I’m back in the States …) I’ve been playing with it and I’m already in love. Winking smile

IMG_8477IMG_8478IMG_8476

Dinner was intestines with noodles, veggies, and fried fish skin.

Done deal.

Bags are packed .. hopefully we aren’t overloaded.

2012 Asia Trip | Day 20

IMG_8437IMG_8438IMG_8439IMG_8440IMG_8444IMG_8441IMG_8442IMG_8443IMG_8436IMG_8435

Due to going to bed late, I woke up at a good 1pm. YEP! Waited for Vincent and we didn’t eat till 3pm. Just Mum, Vincent, and I at a Shanghai restaurant and all the foods … we are fatties for sure. So GOOD!

Since there was a thunderstorm warning there wasn’t ANY one at the restaurant except us. And when we went shopping later after eating one of the stores literally said, “Are you done? It’s thunder storming and we want to go home …”

Wonderful. So all I ended up with was ONE Essie nail polish.

IMG_8447IMG_8449IMG_8446IMG_8448

What dinner consisted of. PoPo was sick so she got congee while the rest of us (Mum, Kathy, Vincent, Rachel, and I) gobbled on all the pizza and many chickens.

Somehow we ended up with a good 14 pieces of fried chicken …. holy mackerel. We obviously didn’t finish it all …

The dang storm won’t let up. It is bipolar. It’ll rain then stop then rain then stop and on and on … Sad smile

Fingers crossed tomorrow will be better!
