Cloud Cafe

April 12, 2013 by Mellie Dee 6 Comments

Happy Friday y’all! I’ve been on a hunt for a local coffee shop since forever ago. Starbucks was killing me with all those cardboard cups. I needed a real cup.

Like the ones characters of F.R.I.E.N.D.S hold in Central Perk. Dork status. I know. Leave me be. Still can’t get over how that show could ever be cancelled …

Cloud Cafe pretty much fell in my lap. I pass this place a lot (in the 6 months or so they’ve been opened) but I never had the courage to walk in. It’s always scary going to a new place for me. I saw a deal on Groupon (where I get everything) where I paid $5 for 5 cups of coffee, tea, or bubble tea. What? Score. K. I’m down.

I’m currently sitting down drinking a big cup of Caramel Latte. With a pretty design.

It was empty walking in. Two employees were working just chilling because there’s not much people no one here. I’m sure they get tons of business in the morning or after work time.

It’s a very hidden shop which I love because that means it’s very chill and I can find a seat. The servers are super nice. They go above and beyond to help you out.

Miss Amazing explained the menu to me and helped me out. Hallelujah. I would of just stood there like a dumbass. Then she told me to sit anywhere and she would bring the cup of joe to me. I don’t have to move? Score. I love this place already.

IMG_20130412_114132

I sat down to use the Wi-Fi but it failed. Instead of writing me off as my laptop being a stinker (which lazy people usually do in these situations), she looked up a way to fix it for me. A simple router restart x2. Thank you, Miss Amazing. Life would be bummer without internet at a cafe where I cannot blog.

There’s an Art Gallery where you can pretty much buy off the walls. And the art is pretty impressive. Paintings to drawings to straight up stitching? Yep.

They also have open mic nights. A piano sits in the corner. Miss Amazing, who I just found out is actually Miss Co-Owner, even busted out with some notes. She says she’s only learning but dang … another amazing thing to add to the list of stuff she can do.

IMG_20130412_125539

Couldn’t help it. Just ordered a Hazelnut Latte. Sadly I cannot use one of my 4 remaining vouchers BUT shiet is so good, I don’t mind it. Blogging on the right and blog reading on the left. That would be Lauren’s blog on the left. She’s amazing. Go check her out.

It’s been a good 30 minutes or so and 3 customers already came in. This place is definitely a place to check out. Love it. I will be coming back with or without this Groupon. Hello Fridays off. You and I have a place to go now. 🙂

Too Much Food

March 16, 2013 by Mellie Dee 6 Comments

Two days of no posts. Whoops. I’ve been … lazy.

Thursday:

20130314_114255

Went out to Lenny’s with some coworker’s.

Lenny’s Sub Shop
14625 Memorial Dr
Houston, TX 77079
(281) 293-8700
www.lennys.com

The coworker’s claim it’s better than Subway or Quizno’s. I do not agree. Although Lenny’s do not skimp out on the meat, I feel the other places had more toppings. I need a lot of vegetables …

Later that day we had Happy Hour at Watson’s.

Watson’s House of Ales
14656 Grisby Rd
Houston, TX 77079
(281) 920-2929
www.watsons.com

WORST service ever. Plus they don’t have happy hour prices. At least we didn’t get them. I know it’s Thursday after work but um … wtf! We waited for a good hour for service sitting at our table. Then when we put our order in we had to wait another 30 minutes. And not everyone got their drinks! Maybe we went on the wrong day but for seriously? All of us agreed not to go there ever again. Once was enough.

The only good thing was a dude buying a beer for me. Score.

Friday:

20130315_110257

Had brunch with Amanda and her friend at Black Walnut Cafe. I got the French Dip this time around. I didn’t dip my sandwich. As for the meat, it wasn’t that amazing. It had a smell to it. Next time I’m going to try the Chicken Pesto Pasta Salad. Mmmm …

I also got a Chocolate Cannoli and a Pistachio Canolli. That stuff is delicious. I’ve asked Sissy to make cannoli’s happen at her wedding …

Sissy and Brett came to visit later that afternoon so we played Marvel Ultimate Alliance II. We beat it!

20130315_160231(0)

Bruno chilling on me as I gamed on.

While I was at the vet with Rocky, Sissy and Brett went and got Rudy’s takeout! YUM! Moist brisket!

Saturday:

I’ve done absolutely nothing. And it feels AMAZING. Thank goodness for the days we can just relax. I did get my crawfish fix though. Not a lot but enough to be happy.

Tomorrow I am going to see Samantha! It’s been a good two weeks! We are hoping to get some green beer. 😉

Whoo … that is a lot of stuff in one post.

Good night!

Shopping, Wine, & Movies

Sissy is such a bad influence. She sent me another link to a shopping site. Eeps. Money is just draining out of me. I want to buy EVERYTHING!

Speaking of buying things, I bought these cute booties for the wedding that’s this Sunday at DSW. You like? I figure i can wear them out AND to the office. Win-Win. I want them in grey now. Or any color they have. Bows, Bows, Bows. Love, Love, Love.

20130119_155505

Mallory, Lauren, Samantha, and I bought a Groupon for Wine Tasting at The Cellar Door in Katy.

Sorry for my huge face … I was really close to the camera. Or maybe this is a wake up call to loose weight!

20130119_153759

We tasted 13 wines. Red and White. I only had a few I liked. If you know me, I’m a beer person. But now I know which wines I like. So I guess I learned something.

If you ask my friends, they’ll tell you that I thought some wines smelled like fish … or moldy squid. How? I don’t know.

20130119_191347

Later that night, Samantha and I went and ate Rudy’s then watched Silver Lining Playbook and Pitch Perfect. It was a pretty chill night.

Sunday, I even got to see Tammy, Jenny, their friends Mary and Jennifer (her boyfriend too) at lunch. It’s been a long, eventful weekend.

Can’t wait for this weekend. Friends and weddings. Exciting!!

P.S. I got on it and did my workout today! Holla!

New Orleans Eateries

January 18, 2013 by Mellie Dee 3 Comments

How do I get 100+ unread blogs each day?! I can’t keep up! Eeps.

Since I mostly ate in New Orleans, I’m just going to do pictures of the places with food/descriptions. Enjoy. 🙂

20130112_123141

Cochon
930 Tchoupitoulas St.
New Orleans, LA 70130
(504) 588-2123
www.cochonrestaurant.com

20130112_125106

Fried Boudin [with picked peppers] | $8

I believe it has a Dijon mustard kind of dip. Mmm … it had a weird taste at first but after a few more bites it was actually quite good.

20130112_125111

Oyster & Meat Pie | $8

I’m not too sure what the dip is but it was spicy. And I really did love this. It was filled with many bite-fulls of oysters!

I didn’t know that both of these dishes were fried, else I would of got something else but OHHHH shiet! So good. I wish I actually got to go there again before I left.

20130112_153030

Cafe Du Monde
800 Decatur St.
New Orleans, LA 70116
(504) 525-4544
www.cafedumonde.com

I didn’t get beignets! I know! It’s a crime!

But I didn’t want sweets since I was so full from Cochon … so I only got a Large Iced Coffee | $5. It was too water downed and tasted like poop. What happened?! I guess they were just busy but meh …

Eat the beignets … they’re much more worth it.

20130112_214554

Mother’s Restaurant
401 Poydras St.
New Orleans, LA 70130
(504) 523-9656
www.mothersrestaurant.net

20130112_201240

Jerry’s Jambalaya [with cabbage & french fries]

I forgot how much it costs but mmm … they served TOO much jambalaya but it was pretty dang tasty. I really loved the cabbage and wished I had more of that. As for the fries … you all know I love potatoes and these were perfectly done!

It was pretty good … just don’t come here for breakfast. Definitely overpriced for that kinda food.

20130113_114511

Pho NOLA
3320 Transcontiental Dr.
Metairie, LA 70006
(504) 941-7690
www.pho-nola.com

20130113_115155

I’m not sure what I ordered … but that it’s obviously Pho. And that it obviously does not taste as good as Houston. Obviously. But if you’re in the mood for Pho in New Orleans, this would do.

20130113_204703

Lüke Restaurant
333 St. Charles Ave.
New Orleans, LA 70130
(504) 378-2840
www.lukeneworleans.com

 20130113_214322

Canard Roti [Chappapeela Farms’ duck breast, confit leg, satsuma glaze, squash tian] | $28

If you had to get ONE thing in New Orleans … get this. I about died eating this. It was that delicious. It wasn’t dry like most ducks I’ve eaten at restaurants. My coworkers were actually jealous at how wonderful it came out.

Best –ish ever!

20130114_073454

Southern Breakfast [2 sunny side up eggs, 2 sausages, grits, & biscuit with orange juice]

How do they eat such heavy breakfasts?! The sausages were super oily. No me gusta. The eggs were done up just right and though the biscuit looks burnt, it was actually quite the right amount of cripsness/softness factor.

I’ve never had grits before … or I’ve had but didn’t like it. Gave it another try and it wasn’t bad at all.

Breakfast at Lüke’s isn’t as great as dinner. That’s all I have to say about that.

20130114_112431

Singha Thai Cafe
413 Carondelet St.
New Orleans, LA 70130
(504) 581-2205

20130114_115134

Pad Thai

Um … it was actually, surprisingly good. They give you so much shrimp and chicken unlike many other places I’ve been too. This plate would be enough to feed 2 people … possibly 3.

Go here if you crave Thai food in New Orleans!

20130114_165219

American Sector
945 Magazine St.
New Orleans, LA 70130
(504) 528-1940
www.american-sector.com

This is located in the World War II museum … we got to watch the movie that’s in 4-d. It’s VERY educational. I want you all to go!

The chef is the same one from Lüke Restaurant … if y’all were wondering.

20130114_170851

Abita Purple Haze

I was a little skeptical to not get Guinness … my go to beer every time I have no idea what to get.

I was not disappointed.

20130114_17094720130114_171113

Meat Pies & Shrimp Pies

I’m not going to lie. I forgot which tin is what but they’re pretty much the same. The only thing is the inside. I liked the meat pies more. It was juicy and spicy! The shrimp pies on the other hand … it was just weird. But nonetheless good.

20130114_170950

Shrimp & Crab Dip [local spinach and grilled ciabatta]

Mmm … I’ve had better. The bread wasn’t good to me at all. It was too hard to eat.

20130114_171053

Mini Cheeseburgers [bacon-onion marmalade]

Oh man … they cut up that meat real nicely. It was kinda like sloppy joes … but without the slops. Must try!

20130114_182932

Grilled Black Drum [farra and Covey Rise vegetables] | $16.50

Mmm … this was a “heart healthy” meal. And it sure was. One of my coworkers got the same exact meal as me … but she said hers was dry and cold … lucky for me, mine was the exact opposite. It was too dang good.

Only thing that confused me was that I had flowers and stuff in there … which I don’t think belonged.

They seemed pretty messy here. Hopefully it’s because they are still new. Else, they need some work.

20130114_123220IMG_20130115_134954

My first King Cake. It’s a must since it’s so close to Mardi Gras time. And I got the baby! Yay!! It’s like a Cinnamon Roll … but with Mardi Gras sprinkles. I really do think sprinkles make everything taste better!

That’s it! I’m full just looking at it all.

Hope you all have a great Friday!!

Pecan Creek Grille

January 4, 2013 by Mellie Dee 5 Comments

Lunch happened yesterday with some coworkers at:

Pecan Creek Grille

via

Pecan Creek Grille
1510 Eldridge Parkway
Houston, TX 77077
(281) 759-3663
www.pecancreekgrille.com

They have an all day breakfast menu! Which some of my coworkers opted for.

As for me, I stuck with the lunch menu that happens after 11am.

20130103_115330 20130103_115526

Turkey Burger Basket [on an egg bun with grilled onions and mushrooms, fries & and drink] | around $11

You get to snazz up your burger however you like with a few bucks.

My fries are humongous because they actually forgot to put it on my plate. Else, it would be right next to my burger and rest assured, way less. To die for. I’ve never tried thin fries that I adore, and these were just perfect. Just the right amount of crispy on the outside and seasoned to perfection.

As for the burger … juicy. Yum. The onions and mushrooms I got added in there definitely made it that much better. I can’t say much for the lettuce. It tasted old and … disgusting so I kind of left it where it laid.

I got my drink of sweet tea [not pictured]. It didn’t taste good at all. Maybe I went on a bad day but the tea was no where near … sweet. It felt very watered down.

20130103_115325

Homemade Chili [cup] | $3.59

I don’t know why I always feel the need to order chili if I can but I did!

I should of said no to the cheese and not to be greedy with the onions. They sure aren’t greedy with the meat though. You will find chunks of ground meat in there. It was really good and I just loved dunking my fries in there.

I really did love this place and I would definitely come back. I’m thinking of bringing the family here one day.

Hey sissy, if you read this … you can come here! They have veggie burgers!

Has anyone checked out PV.Body 30 Day Challenge for today?

Day 3 and it’s a recipe for Protein Pancakes. I didn’t make them but if you did, let me know how they turned out!

It’s finally the weekend! Hope you all have a great one!
