2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Jenny & Le Wedding

November 21, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Gma's Birthday, Jollibee, Macaroni Soup

Started off the week with celebrating Gma’s birthday by having a family dinner at Gordon’s. Then the rest of the week was Jollibee and homemade soup because the weather was so nice!

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Taste of Texas with NOV Team + Award

Thursday, I met the NOV team for our last lunch together at The Taste of Texas. I ordered a $98 porterhouse steak and was not disappointed. I even got a dessert served in a boot that I got to keep! We were awarded with a tiny drop of oil inside a Texas shaped figurine which was nice as we don’t really get stuff like that. It was a great lunch with one of the best managers I’ve ever had a pleasure of working with even though I was not directly under him, nor worked with him long.

Earlier that day, I had gone to Starbucks to get a free reusable Christmas cup and for the first time, able to snag a couple of boxes of instant peppermint mocha lattes. I can never find them!

After I got back from lunch, which ended almost three hours later, we drove to Dallas to start Jenny and Le’s wedding festivities. We were given Thai food for dinner and started the movie The Rescue. The movie was so long, we had to cut it short and head to bed!

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Jenny & Le Wedding | Tea Ceremony | Emmy, Mellie Dee, Ethan

Friday morning, we got ready and headed off to Jenny’s parent’s house to kick off the wedding festivities. Tea Ceremony consisted of bridesmaids playing games with the groomsmen. We ended up making them shots of random sauces we found mixed together and Mary decided adding Bicardi to them would make it better. Too funny. Then Le had to eat half of a chocolate crepe with one of them before singing and dancing to a Backstreet Boys song of his choice. Then they were allowed in and the rest was history.

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Kyodai | Ethan, Jenny, Sammi

Later that night, Brudda, SIL, and I met up with Jenny and Sammi at Kyodai for some handrolls. Loved the fresh wasabi and practically ate the rest of everyone elses.

Then we went home and finished The Rescue. Ethan watched the end of the movie with us and wouldn’t take his eyes off the screen. The day before Emmy ran away scared because of the fire scenes. This boy surprises us every day.

When everyone went to bed, Jenny and I had hours of conversations, eating pickle chips on the early morning of her wedding day. Sammi came home from hanging out with Le and the cousins and friends on both sides and they decided it was a great idea to be blow drying their hair at 1:30am. Then sleeps.

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Ethan & Rizzo

Saturday morning, I spent some time with Ethan and Rizzo. He loves when Rizzo sits next to him and loves giving him kisses. So sweet.

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Jenny & Le Wedding | Getting Ready | Mellie Dee, Mary, Rosanna, SIL, Deana

Once Jenny’s mum showed up at the house, we headed to the venue, The Rosemary Barn, and met up with the rest of the bridesmaids. We opened our gifts and changed into the silk pajamas and took silly pictures. We had our rehearsal with just the girls and Rich was nice enough to pick up some Raising Cane’s for us so that we could nibble while getting our hair and makeup done.

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Jenny & Le Wedding | Decor

I was able to snap these pictures while waiting in line to walk down the aisle.

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Jenny & Le Wedding

Their first dance with everyone watching and their last dance with no one around. The smiles and laughs especially when it was just them was so sweet.

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Jenny & Le Wedding | Mellie Dee, Emmy, Ethan, Sammi, Mary, Rosanna

Just some pictures with some peoples.

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Jenny & Le Wedding | Food

And just some foods. I had bridesmaid duties and when I got back, my food was taken away. Sad day. But luckily, SIL was down to get some In n Out before calling it a night.

We were going to go out to their after party but it was so late and we were both pooped by the time Jenny and Le decided to leave to the party.

2021 | Week 88 of Quarantine | Sweet Hut, Dairy Queen

Waking up late the next day, Sissy and BIL were nice enough to pick up some goodies for us to eat from Sweet Hut. We hung out a bit and went home. The drive was so long with so many on the road that we stopped by Dairy Queen and McDonald’s for goodies to wake us up.

We did the bare minimum of cleaning up and have been lounging around and relaxing. Half day of work tomorrow and then a whole lot of nothing. I am pumped for some whole lot of nothings.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Texas Renaissance Festival & Cirque du Soleil Alegria

November 14, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Cottage Mountain Puzzle | Maria's Going Away Lunch at Hungry's

Started off the week by finishing up a cottage mountain puzzle. I’m running out but luckily Target had a buy two get one free sale!

On Thursday, we had a going away lunch at Hungry’s for Maria. It was the first time seeing them since we started working from home, other than Christopher. It was nice to talk face to face again though.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Work Holiday & Farewell Party | The Tasting Room | Houston, Texas

Friday was our work’s Holiday and Farewell party for everyone since starting December first, our asset is sold off to a different company. I got a job offer from them but did not accept as it was in Midland. Hoping I find something within the company but if not, I know I’ll be okay, wherever I land.

We enjoyed finger foods and many drinks before we called it a day. I tried leaving and was stuck in conversations.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Barcelona Restaurant and Lounge | Houston, Texas

Luckily Amy was amazing and was okay with skipping day plans we made so that I could attend my work party. She also showed up at the hotel earlier than expected and I ended up being way later than expected. We had a glassblowing class scheduled but due to furnace problems, they cancelled a day early. If not, I would have been late!

We caught up a bit, and decided to have dinner at Barcelona Restaurant and Lounge. We’ve been spoiled by Toro in San Antonio, so this wasn’t super up to par, but wasn’t horrible. We then went back to the hotel and hung out until we passed out.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Texas Renaissance Festival | Todd Mission, Texas | Mellie Dee

Saturday morning, we went off to the Texas Renaissance Festival. It was her first time and it was definitely a lot to take in for a newcomer. I haven’t been in years and it has grew a lot since then. We walked around the whole time and watching some men fight and joust. All fun and exciting to see how into it everyone was. Since we had to reschedule our glassblowing event to another day, she had fun watching the lady demonstrate glassblowing and is now more excited than ever for when our class comes around in the future. She was like a kid in a candy shop. Precious.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Whistle Stop Tea Room | Tomball, Texas

We had a quick lunch at Whistle Stop Tea Room. Everything was delicious. My favourite was the pasta salad and their broccoli and cheese soup. Amy liked their tortilla soup. I would love to come back.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Galaxy Nail and Spa | Tomball, Texas | Jade Siam Thai Massage Therapy | Magnolia, Texas

We went back to the hotel so that Amy could change into sweats for our pedicure at Galaxy Nail Spa. Afterward, we drove close to our massage place, Jade Siam Thai Massage Therapy. We walked around TJ Maxx where we came out with goodies before heading to get our muscles worked on. It was her first time getting stretched during a massage and my first time getting stepped on in the US (I’ve had a legit Thai massage in Thailand). We came out refreshed.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Mikado | Magnolia, Texas

We feasted on habachi and sushi at Mikado. It hit the spot. She mentioned loving to eat with me because I order so much. I, on the other hand, need to learn to order less. But surprisingly, we didn’t have a lot left over.

It was back to the hotel to relax and sleep.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Sleek Creperie & Cafe | Cypress, Texas

This morning, we woke up, drove our separate cars to Sleek Creperie & Cafe. We both got our own savory crepe and lattes, and shared a sweet one together. Thank goodness because that sweet crepe was bigger than our faces! They also sell chocolates and gelato. I want to come back and try those out as well.

We said our goodbyes and headed home.

It’s not rare that people drive to my world but what’s rare is that they make time for me when they end up by me. To this day, Amy is one of the easiest people to travel with. We literally had no plans other than glassblowing, which got rescheduled, and the Texas Renaissance Festival. We ended up filling our time up with things by just talking. Ever since I introduced her to reflexology on our California trip, it’s become a thing for us to incorporate massages into our trips – like Liliana and I with massages and facials. These chill trips with Amy makes me feel so refreshed after. Sigh, cannot wait for our next one!

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Cirque du Soleil Alegria | Beth & Mallory

I went home and took an amazing nap before heading to Mallory’s. We picked up Beth and headed to Sam Houston Race Park to see my (and Mallory’s) first Cirque du Soleil Alegria. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was way better than that. Mallory drank coffee hoping to stay away prior, but I don’t think anyone needs assistance in staying awake. They keep you pulled in with fire, flips, air swings, and more. The live musical performance was so beautiful with the addition to the performance made me tear up on many occasions. I am now wanting to attend ALL of them because it was just that fun! Thank you, Beth, for getting us early tickets for such wonderfulness!

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Frankenstein | Jinya | Katy, Texas

I had a late dinner date with Frankenstein at Jinya. He was nice enough to drive all the way to me since I had such a busy night. We sat outside for his big bowl of ramen and my kids meal that came with SO much variety of food. We paid and continued talking to the point where it started to get cold. We fought the chill until it was way past their closing time and a waiter had to go around all the tables and practically kick us out.

This whole entire weekend has been filled with memorable moments and getting to end it seeing him was icing on the cake! This coming week will be crazy and tiring. Bring it on. I’m (kinda) ready for you.

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine

November 7, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Dish Society | Katy, Texas | Sebastian's Late Birthday Lunch

Finally celebrated Sebastian’s birthday by treating him to lunch at Dish Society. First time going off to lunch during work day and it was nice to get away. Never enough time to talk but always the best conversations.

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Ambriza | Kay, Texas | Mallory's Birthday Dinner with Beth

Thursday night, Beth and I finally went out to dinner to celebrate Mallory’s birthday at Ambriza. Since it was our first time, we got the corn for free. And since it was her birthday, they had a frame to take pictures with and a free tres leches as they sung happy birthday to her. The food was good but the company was better. We later took pics outside the Christmas tree that’s been lit and Mallory was freezing and jokingly put on the scarf I made her. Haha

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Balayage Hair

Since I was off Friday, I finally fixed my hair to a more natural colour for Jenny’s upcoming wedding. It was so blonde before that it’s still super light in certain places but overall, looks great. Also, found my go to hair dresser. Win!

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Roots | Houston, Texas | Sissy, BIL, Timothy, Lillian, Jacky

Sarurday, Sissy, BIL, Timothy, Lillian, Jacky, and I met at Roots Wine Bar prior to Sarah’s performance.

You give them your credit card and they link it to the chip card they have. The chip card is used for the wine machines where you can choose 1oz, 3 oz, or 5 oz pours of certain wines. So much to choose from and they even have a placard you can take that describes the wines in detail. Every with is different cost depending what it is as well. (Note: If you make reservations you have to put a $10 deposit for each person. That money ends up on one chip card and if you don’t use it all you lose it. We went over so not sure if you spend money on food if it can go towards it though.)

Although food isn’t the main thing here it was a hot. Expensive with little portions but it was delicious. We were surprised by the steak tartare. I think that was my first time and was well worth it.

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Lazarus Dance Featuring Sarah | Houston, Texas | Sissy, BIL, Timothy, Lillian, Jacky

We headed off to Sarah’s performance sans BIL. The costumes and live music accompaniment was perfect. The music was written by the grandfather of the person that put it all together. It’s crazy how she still dances professionally. Who said you can’t dance after a certain age?

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Thaicoon, Big City Wings, Hot Pot

Some good eats for the week. Thaicoon is still the best Thai place. Big City Wings wasn’t hitting the spot with their flavours. But the hot pot made a comeback after so long since it’s starting to get cold.

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Cats & Dogs, Night and Day Paris Puzzles

I went puzzle crazy this week and finished four of them. My cats and dogs 10 set puzzle is now completed. Sad some had missing pieces though due to kids or manufacturers but since it’s so old, nothing I can do Those were hard since all the pieces had the same shapes but very rewarding.

The rest of the month is going to be a bit crazy … but fun. I cannot wait for the hump to be over so I can relax a bit though.

2021 | Week 85 of Quarantine | WWE Monday Night Raw

October 31, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 85 of Quarantine | Mallory & Mellie Dee | WWE Monday Night Raw

Started off the week celebrating Mallory’s birthday early by going to WWE Monday Night Raw. It’s been on my list since I was a kid watching it with Brudda.

The ladders and tables made the show the best. It does suck you don’t hear them talk if they don’t have a mic and you don’t hear the announcer either. And the sound effects of them getting slammed against the floor is fake and sometimes they forget to press the button.

But overall it was an experience and I wouldn’t mind going again.

2021 | Week 85 of Quarantine | PPDM Expo

I went to the second day of the PPDM Expo. I missed Monday’s because I was up all night for to stomach issues. FYI, I know.

But it was nice to see some with people again and listen to some presentations. The food was real good and can’t say no to free stuff.

2021 | Week 85 of Quarantine | Beth's Meatball and Spaghetti, Halloween Nails

Thursday after work I went over to Beth’s for dinner spaghetti and meatballs. I mostly went to pick up some nail stuff I bought (exhibit Halloween nails) and ended up taking to get and Scott for hours. Connor has grown so much and so smiley practically all the time.

2021 | Week 85 of Quarantine | Good Eats

Just since eats and drinks from the week. Tried it a new Mexican place and it was good. They even have Fideo but not as good as Patricia’s.

2021 | Week 85 of Quarantine | Loch Bar | Houston, Texas | Frankenstein & Mellie Dee

Saturday night, I met up with Frankenstein at Loch Bar. Or second time here and we went crazy and ordered a lot of stuff.

  • Bread – free, crispy exterior but super fluffy interior
  • 3 different kinds of oysters:
    • sweet petite (my favourite),
    • raspberry point (his favourite),
    • queen cup (server’s favourite haha)
  • Oysters Rockefeller – to much cheese. We both loved the raw better.
  • Chesapeake Crab Dip – worth it. They give you so many chunks of crab and you can trade the crab as of you were eating it right out of the shell. Love the carrots and celery to dip than the bread.
  • Rye Whiskey Flight – I believe it was the manager that came and gave us an extra whiskey, the Jefferson, to try. That ended up to be one of the favourites for the both of us as well as the Sagamore for me.
  • Seafood Diavalo Pasta – so good and they give you a great deal of seafood that isn’t all chopped up.

We watched the Astros game while we were there and since we were up, we decided to leave and walk around. We were in the River Oaks area so we walked around and looked through the windows pretty much laughing at the clothes.

I finally found the place that makes ice cream look like a rose. He asked if I wanted to get one but I was too full. Maybe next time.

we passed by an art gallery and joked about wanting a very expensive piece where the words make up people which is made from splotches of paint. It was so cool.

When I got home I found out Astros lost. Sigh, sad day but a great date night.

2021 | Week 85 of Quarantine | Sissy's Birthday

Today’s Sissy’s birthday. They landed from their trip and came over to pick up the pups and celebrate. We ordered food from Thai Cuisine and Ramen King, opened presents and ate Oreo cake. We then all spent time sitting outside and just talking.

It’s been a very quick and fun week filled with people with a lot of relaxation. I think I’m still trying to make up being out so late for the bachelorette that this weekend’s naps were amazing.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | San Francisco & Napa, California

October 24, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Dallas with Ethan, Doggie Puzzle, Vietnamese

Started off the week by finishing up my dog puzzle from weeks ago! Ethan helped by handing me pieces as I found their rightful spots.

Wednesday after work, we packed the car and drove off to Dallas. Ethan is SO good on long car rides. He didn’t sleep long but he also didn’t make a fuss. Sadly he did throw up milk which messed up my car but that’s baby life, right?

We ate pho for dinner and then Sammi wanted to stay up as late as possible so she chilled in my room while we talked about boys and life.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny's Bachelorette | Ethan, Sammi, Mellie Dee, Chick-fil-A, Dallas to San Francisco, Target

The next day, Thursday, Ethan and I had some quality time together before Sammi’s friend drove us to Chickfila and took us to the airport to start off Jenny’s Bachelorette Party. I thought it was cool they had a phone/tablet holder built into the seats now. After a couple of movies, we arrived. We were stuck on the plane for a LONG LONG time and we ended up in the departure area rather than the arrivals making Brudda have to drive all over the airport to find us.

We finally made it to the hotel, chilled for a bit before heading out to get some necessities from Target.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny's Bachelorette | Fang | San Francisco, California

We were all getting hungry and I was craving soup dumplings so I picked Fang for a light snack. From the pictures you can tell we don’t know what that means. Sadly, they don’t do soup dumplings anymore, but their food wasn’t bad! Their pork baos and eggplant vegetarian dumplings were the favourites for the masses.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny's Bachelorette | Mister Jiu's | San Francisco, California | Mellie Dee, Jenny, Rosanna, Tammy

We stopped by 7 Eleven for some breakfast foods we needed for the next day since we wouldn’t have time and then headed back to the hotel, got ready, relaxed, before the bridesmaids went with the bride to Mister Jiu’s for dinner. We took some picture3s on the street since we had some time to spare.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny's Bachelorette | Mister Jiu's | San Francisco, California | Food

The food was nothing to write about. It has one Michelin star but so far, none of the places I’ve been to that have Michelin star has been worth it. The food isn’t horrible, but it wasn’t amazing. The drinks on the other hand were bomb. Fan favourite was definitely the chow fun and oysters.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | Castello di Amorosa | Calistoga, California | Mellie Dee & Brudda

On Friday, we all woke up early and Brudda drove us all to Castello di Amorosa. It was a pretty fun drive there. We even stopped by Starbucks where I found it funny that Brudda wanted a cake pop.

The wine from Castello di Amorosa was okay. Nothing popped out to being fantastic so the thought of shipping some home as gifts was dropped. I think people mostly come here to take pictures of the castle. We paid for one hour of wine tasting and one hour of picture taking around the castle. If you ever come here, even if you don’t drink, you have to pay the same amount but don’t ever do the grape juice tasting. If you don’t drink, just don’t come to this place. It costs the same as a wine tasting but they don’t even serve you the amount that would be worth it. They only got 3 tiny pours of the same exact grape juice which we had to ask for every time. They sell a bottle of grape juice for $14 so definitely not worth it; the flavour is great though.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | V. Sattui Winery | St. Helena, California | Mellie Dee & Rosanna

After taking enough pictures, we headed off to V. Sattui Winery for a picnic lunch. You walk in and order from the deli counter and you can buy a bottle of wine if you so choose but no tastings here so you’re not obligated to pay even if you’re not a drinker. We got a little of almost everything and everything tasted amazing. Lot of choices for every type of diet.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | Son & Garden | San Francisco, California | Food

We got back to the hotel, took naps, then the bridesmaids and bride met up with MLam and Rachel at Son & Garden. The bone marrow and duck confit was the favoruite for me. The lobster bisque was good too. You can actually taste the lobster in the soup unlike other places.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | Son & Garden | San Francisco, California | Mellie Dee, Tammy, Jenny, Rosanna, Rachel, MLam

We then took pictures at their flower wall before heading out. I was feeling myself hence some selfies because I couldn’t choose. Don’t judge.

We walked for forever to a bar where you pay $10 for Jenny to spin the wheel for a drink. After she got her drink Rosanna and I went back to the hotel to get started on getting ready for the night. Tammy and Jenny came after and we just talked about how unsafe we all felt while walking to the bar: needles on the ground, guy pissing, pee smells, and hobos just all about screaming their heads off. Yikes.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | Surisan | San Francisco, California | Mellie Dee, Tammy, Jenny, Rosanna, MLam, Vi, Sammi, Tram, MyTien

Saturday, we wore the tshirts I made with wine puns to brunch at Surisan. If you’re ever in town, come here. You won’t regret it! I suggest the benedicts, fried wings, and their Iced Strawbertty Matcha Latte.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | Umbrella Alley | San Francisco, California

We then walked to Umbrella Alley to take pictures. It was super cute.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | Jenny & Tammy | Boba Guys | Decorating

We headed back to the hotel to decorate for later tonight and order Boba Guys as well.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | AsiaSF | San Francisco, California

Then it was off to Asia SF. The food was better than I expected but not somewhere I’d come back to for the food, especially for the cost.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | AsiaSF | San Francisco, California | Mellie Dee & Jenny

Their show as fun though. And made me feel like, dang they are so confident I’m starting to feel it too. Afterwards we went downstairs to their night club and danced for a bit.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | Lingerie Party | Mellie Dee & Jenny

Then it was to the hotel for the lingerie party which turned into crazy drinking by all of Le’s cousins, Jenny, Tammy, and Sammi.

Let’s just say, some threw up, some passed out, and we got two calls of multiple, multiple complaints about the noise.

2021 | Week 84 of Quarantine | Jenny’s Bachelorette | San Francisco to Dallas | Jenny & Mellie Dee | Goldilocks Filipino

Brudda drove me, Jenny, and Rosanna to the airport at 4am after we only slept for a couple of hours. Jenny got me some siu mai from Goldilocks Flipino at the airport since I didn’t get my soup dumplings. Not the same but still delicious. I watched so many episodes of Maid while Jenny slept through the flight.

The Le came to pick us up and I packed the car and drove back to Houston with Mum and Dad. I am pooped to say the least. And this week is suppose to be a little crazy in the beginning of the week. Eeek, save me.
