A Day at Home

July 19, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Due to having to take Dad for his CT Scan this morning, I had to work from home. I had to start working at five in the morning to make a five-thirty conference call with India and not having to change and drive into the office for it was gold. It sounds horrible to many but I actually didn’t mind it since I did get a lot of work done before I had to leave for the doctor.

Los Balitos | Katy, Texas | Barbacoa Taco, Lengua Taco, Carne Asada Fries

After the doctor’s we picked up some Los Balitos. Their tacos are still on point but they are getting horrible with the carne asada fries. They used to be my favourite but with the amount of fries they put with the amount of toppings, the ratio is off. Definitely not how it used to be.

Rizzo Waiting by the Window

I worked attended more meetings, worked my hours, then I ordered dinner. Rizzo looked out the window while I looked out the window and it was freaking adorable. I love the little curl in his tail although it is a broken tail.

Kurry Walah | Katy, Texas

I ordered Kurry Walah through Door Dash and it was not a hit. Nothing had the spice factor and therefore the taste was off. Three of the six papad were stale and burnt. Not happy at all. I’ll never come back to this place.

I miss my favourite Indian restaurant. I wish they delivered and was closer. Sigh …

Girls Afternoon Out

Nail Bar with Mallory and Leah

A lazy morning before heading over to Mallory’s. Mallory and I planned on manicures and pedicures and since Leah was in town for a wedding she decided to join in.

We all got the same shade of pink except Mallory and I had colour changing ones that become a way darker pink when cold. You can see a little bit of a darker pink on her nails far right.

Eight Turn Crepe | Katy, Texas | Strawberry Nutella, Truffled Royal Scrambled Eggs , Harajuku Fruit Cocktail Crepes
R to L: Strawberry Nutella [fresh strawberries, Nutella, chocolate custard, whipped yogurt, and hazelnuts | $7.62; Truffled Royal Scrambled Eggs [two scrambled organic eggs, truffled mushrooms, truffle oil, baby spinach, tofu sauce, and cheddar cheese] | $7.99, Harajuku Fruit Cocktail Crepes [fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, mango, and banana, whipped yogurt, custard cream, and sliced almonds] | $8.96

We went to Katy Asian Town. They’ve never been and so I took them around. We stopped by Eight Turn Crepe first since we were a bit hungry. We all shared a savory crepe and two sweet crepes. Let’s be real though, I ate the majority of the savory one since sweets aren’t really my biggest love. They were all equally amazing but I’m still a savory person. I want to go back and try to creme brulee one but they only have that Mondays to Fridays though.

The cool kids.

Sharetea | Katy, Texas | Mango & Passion Fruit Green Tea, Taro Ice Blended with Pudding
Mango & Passion Fruit Green Tea with Pearls | $4.50 + $0.50 for Pearls, Taro Ice Blended with Pudding | $5

Mallory and I got drinks from ShareTea. It was her first tapioca drink and I believe she’ll be happy with just the drink without the balls in the future.

We headed to H-Mart afterward. Their first Asian grocery store. They had a lot of questions and I had fun showing them around the place. I was even surprised when they tried conch at one of the tasting spots.

We went back to Mallory’s and hung out and talked about boys before I headed back home. I’m ready for bed now since this weekend has been super busy. Night, world.

The General Public | Houston, Texas

July 13, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I had a good few hours of sleep in before getting pawed by Rizzo to go out. After relaxing for a bit Timothy came to pick me and June up to go to The Escape Game Houston, Playground edition meeting up with Sissy, BIL, Gordon, and Patsy.

The Escape Game | Houston, Texas | Playground

Thanks to The Houston Bloggers Union, it was all free! And we had a great time! The object of the game was to go through and solve puzzles pretaining to our report card. We were slow to start but ended up getting through everything with only 54 seconds to spare! We were cutting it close!! All A+’s!! I’ve never had all As on my report card! Haha

The General Public | Houston, Texas | Shrimp and Grits and Potato Au Gratin

Afterward we all headed across the street to the General Public. This has been on my list to try since they opened and I was thrilled to have good company with me.

Shrimp and Grits with a sunny side up egg. The grits are made out of cauliflower and although it did have a different texture, I feel better knowing it’s a tad healthier than if they were grits.

The side of Potato Au Gratin was okay. Not anything go hit home about. I wished the green chili came through more.

I did get to try some fries and it was perfect fried and seasoned! I’d come back for that!

Fish by John

We all went out separate ways and I laid in bed with Rizzo for about a good thirty minutes before heading out to Mallory’s. John was having Trey and Robby over for dinner so Mallory asked if I wanted to join. We had fish cooked by John and everything else by Mallory. Yum!

JJ and the Telly

After dinner we all sat in the living room and watched telly. JJ kept attacking Trey and I and although it was tiring since I haven’t been getting much sleep, I had fun. There were times where he would sit peacefully and watch telly and I loved when he say in my lap. Makes me miss Emmy. After JJ went to bed, we played Mario Kart and watched more telly before calling it a night.

Gus’s World Fried Chicken | Houston, Texas

July 12, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Jumped on an early morning call with the prototyping team. I love seeing it come together and I really hope it gets signed off by the high ups. But if not, we can always build our own through the local team.

I spent four hours after that with Dad at his doctor appointments. It was mostly a lot of waiting but I was able to get in a twenty five minute nap afterwards since I only had two hours of sleep.

La Madeline with Joel

I drove and picked up Joel for lunch at La Madeline, more of a snack for me but I got kind of full. He was sweet in buying me a fruit tart since I got coffee last time. My little intern is all grown up!

Gus's World Fried Chicken | Houston, Texas | Salim

After a while of catching up with Joel, I dropped him off at his work and went and picked up Salim from his work for a super late lunch at Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, his favourite fried chicken place. (That’s only because he’s never been to Jollibee or Bawls!)

Dark thighs are always my favourite and it was pretty darn good. I wished it was spicier but other than that, it’s a pretty good southern fried chicken. We thought their greens would be green beans but if was collard greens. I was a bit disappointed but they started growing on me as I ate them.

Gus's World Fried Chicken | Houston, Texas | Sweet Potato Pie

He also said they had good pies, at least the ones he has tried. He’s never had sweet potato pie here so we decided to be “healthy”. He says this was the worst pie he’s gotten here. I agree. It wasn’t that great. If I ever come back I’ll try one of the chess pies he likes.

I’ve been wanting to try this place and glad I finally got to cross it off my list! Where’s my next new foodventure?

Houston Cousins Day

July 6, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Started off the day watching the first Avenger movie before Timothy came to pick me up to go to Grandma’s. Sissy, BIL, Sarah, and Jacky died up as well. We picked up some Vietnamese food as well and chowed down with them and talked a bit before heading back home.

Game Night at Sarah & Jacky's

Soon enough I was out the door again picking up Timothy for game night at Sarah and Jacky’s with Sissy and BIL. Family Guy Clue and some Escape Curse if the Temple. Everyone was pretty competitive but was fun overall.

Canyon Creek Cafe | Houston, Texas
Old Fashioned, Moscow Mule, Texas Wang’s Sweet and Spicy, Chicken Fried Steak, Frijoles Burger, Barbacoa Hash

Then we headed to dinner at Canyon Creek Cafe. The best out of it all is the Barbacoa Hash. I really want to order one to go so I have it for tomorrow or something. It was THAT good.

We are currently chilling and will either call it a night or play more games. I’m sleepy and rest to relax with some Marvel movies.
