2019 Priscilla’s Birthday

July 26, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

A doctor’s visit for over two hours and finishing a novel made for a good morning and afternoon. I even got a nap time in with Rizzo before I had to get up and get ready for Priscilla’s birthday celebration.

Sinh Sinh | Houston, Texas | Priscilla's Bir

We went to Sinh Sinh for dinner with her husband and four other friends and Salim. We all ordered different dishes and shared. This wasn’t even all of it and we were stuffed.

We are currently at District 249, a country dance hall. I never realized how much I missed these places. People watching and finding new country songs. Only thing missing is a man to two step too. Haha

Okay, time to get back to the people. Night, world!

Happy Hour with Data Scientists

July 25, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

The Moonshiners Southern Table + Bar | Houston, Texas | Old Fashioned & Lavender Mule

Earlier in the week, Salim invited me to happy hour at The Moonshiners Southern Table + Bar with the data scientists from our old company. I’ve always wanted to try this place and although I didn’t end up getting food, I would love to come back and try. Shown is my Old Fashioned and Salim’s Lavender Mule.

I met new people and also saw people I haven’t seen since we left the company. Although they are all super smart and I get lost in their conversations, it’s nice to hear them talk. The best feeling is understanding certain parts they talk about! I get more motivated to be better with them around.

The Conservatory | Houston, Texas | Pho

Salim, John, Ejie (?) and I decided to get pho from The Conservatory. Much more wonderful conversations before Salim walked me to where my Uber was going to meet me after a homeless man tried to swindle us out of money when we were all outside on the streets talking.

My Uber driver was pretty awesome. She’s a police officer, private investigator, and bodyguard. If you ever met her, you’d never guess. She was also nice enough to watch me walk into the house versus just leaving.

It’s finally the weekend. Two more days of work and then it’s finally a vacation. Hallelujah.

Homemade Ice Cream & Sorbet

July 21, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Ed's Homemade Herb Garden Ice Cream, Cherry Sorbet, Lemongrass Ginger Lime Sorbet

I had plans with Ed today. It’s been a long while and figured we’d put something in the calendar else it’d never happen. I told him it was national ice cream day a couple of weeks ago and funny enough, he’d been making ice creams and sorbets. I got to try a few that he’s made in the past. Herb Garden Ice Cream, Cherry Sorbet, Lemongrass Ginger Lime Sorbet.

Fort Bend County Library Card

We, mostly Ed, made the base of Orange Sherbet and headed to the library in Richmond so I could get a library card. The one I have at the moment is a small library with fewer audiobooks available. I have so much more to choose from now and I’m so excited!

Taro Slush with Pudding | Kung Fu

After we went and got Kung Fu Tea. Even with 30% sugar, it’s way too sweet!

Burger IM | Richmond, Texas

We went next door for BurgerIM but we failed at calculating drinks. We both ended up with two drinks and I’m never for the soft drink machines.

They are mini burgers and both did the duo combo. The Angus burger had a frozen pattie flavour and not worth the addition of grilled onions and grilled mushrooms. The crispy chicken was very, very good. I was so surprised by it. The only thing was they broke my egg yolk so it spilled everywhere and the cheese wasn’t melted. The fries were not a favourite at all but the garlic aioli addition helped.

Would I come back here? Most likely not. But if I ever was nearby and craved a crispy chicken burger, then yes, yes I would.

Homemade Orange Sherbet with Ed

We went back to his house to get the Orange Sherbet out of the fridge and into the ice cream churner. After it was the right consistency we tasted it and it was delicious. But in the freezer, it goes for an hour before the final product.

I went home before that happened. I was pooped and had a lot to take care of before work tomorrow. I spent most of the evening discussing the Cousins Trip plans. We’ve booked our Airbnb! And things are getting a little more real with the time we spent planning on finalizing things.

EEEp! Now I need to focus on my August trip first!

Baby Finn – Gender Reveal

July 20, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Chickfila Breakfast

The day started out very busy. Actually, I’m lying. The whole day was busy! I started off heading to get my routine bloodwork done. Afterward, I picked up some Chick-fil-A breakfast chicken minis and headed to Mallory’s community pool.

After the food settled for a good forty-five minutes we started our water aerobics workout with others. I never thought I’d say this but I LOVE WATER AEROBICS! It was fun and not as stressful on the joints and old injuries.

I showered at Mallory’s and played with JJ for a bit. He seems to like me a lot more and was even nice enough to dip a tater tot in honey mustard and fed it to me when I asked if I could have one!

Minuti Coffee | Katy, Texas | Reunion with Tan

Soon enough I was out the door to Minuti Coffee. I met up with Tan. We did the math and realized we hadn’t seen each other in 10 years! But now that he lives closer and had a tasting near me we decided to catch up. I’m glad we did. And I cannot wait for more future adventures with him. We had a great time talking about people from our past and catching up about the in-between. Let’s hope this reunion will last.

Shopping at La Centerra | Katy, Texas

Soon enough sissy came over. As she got her haircut I went shopping near the area. I even got a little taste of a cocktail they were serving at a store!

Kim's Teahouse | Katy, Texas | Strawberry Green Tea with Mini Boba

After her haircut we stopped by Kim’s Teahouse for her to get a drink. Don’t get strawberry green tea. It was not good at all. We also got popcorn chicken and fries.

We went home to let Rizzo out, then went to Wal-Mart for groceries. As we were putting groceries away Brudda video called since we were finally going to find out what the gender of the new baby was going to be!!

Baby Finn Gender Reveal

We had to make them wait so we could finish putting up groceries, as well as, the drive over to Katie’s! It’s a boy! I am getting a nephew! Just what I guessed! They already have a name picked out and I’m going to call him Finn. Gah, I’m too excited. I bought a heat press from Amazon Prime Day and I cannot wait to make all these shirts!

Dinner at Katie's

After the reveal we played with Jasmine and had dinner with their family.

Dinner at Katie's | Cheesecake - Perfect Circle

Then we had a dessert of cheesecakes that Sissy and I brought over. I had a smart idea to do the perfect circle so we got to try everything to figure out which one was our favourites. Vanilla bean for me!

After dessert, we planned out our Cousin’s Trip a little bit more. Booked an excursion with the ones who want to do it as well as making a list of all the Airbnbs and getting everyone to rank them.

I’m pooped and ready to relax before bedtime. Night, world!

A Day at Home

July 19, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Due to having to take Dad for his CT Scan this morning, I had to work from home. I had to start working at five in the morning to make a five-thirty conference call with India and not having to change and drive into the office for it was gold. It sounds horrible to many but I actually didn’t mind it since I did get a lot of work done before I had to leave for the doctor.

Los Balitos | Katy, Texas | Barbacoa Taco, Lengua Taco, Carne Asada Fries

After the doctor’s we picked up some Los Balitos. Their tacos are still on point but they are getting horrible with the carne asada fries. They used to be my favourite but with the amount of fries they put with the amount of toppings, the ratio is off. Definitely not how it used to be.

Rizzo Waiting by the Window

I worked attended more meetings, worked my hours, then I ordered dinner. Rizzo looked out the window while I looked out the window and it was freaking adorable. I love the little curl in his tail although it is a broken tail.

Kurry Walah | Katy, Texas

I ordered Kurry Walah through Door Dash and it was not a hit. Nothing had the spice factor and therefore the taste was off. Three of the six papad were stale and burnt. Not happy at all. I’ll never come back to this place.

I miss my favourite Indian restaurant. I wish they delivered and was closer. Sigh …
