2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Texas Renaissance Festival & Cirque du Soleil Alegria

November 14, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Cottage Mountain Puzzle | Maria's Going Away Lunch at Hungry's

Started off the week by finishing up a cottage mountain puzzle. I’m running out but luckily Target had a buy two get one free sale!

On Thursday, we had a going away lunch at Hungry’s for Maria. It was the first time seeing them since we started working from home, other than Christopher. It was nice to talk face to face again though.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Work Holiday & Farewell Party | The Tasting Room | Houston, Texas

Friday was our work’s Holiday and Farewell party for everyone since starting December first, our asset is sold off to a different company. I got a job offer from them but did not accept as it was in Midland. Hoping I find something within the company but if not, I know I’ll be okay, wherever I land.

We enjoyed finger foods and many drinks before we called it a day. I tried leaving and was stuck in conversations.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Barcelona Restaurant and Lounge | Houston, Texas

Luckily Amy was amazing and was okay with skipping day plans we made so that I could attend my work party. She also showed up at the hotel earlier than expected and I ended up being way later than expected. We had a glassblowing class scheduled but due to furnace problems, they cancelled a day early. If not, I would have been late!

We caught up a bit, and decided to have dinner at Barcelona Restaurant and Lounge. We’ve been spoiled by Toro in San Antonio, so this wasn’t super up to par, but wasn’t horrible. We then went back to the hotel and hung out until we passed out.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Texas Renaissance Festival | Todd Mission, Texas | Mellie Dee

Saturday morning, we went off to the Texas Renaissance Festival. It was her first time and it was definitely a lot to take in for a newcomer. I haven’t been in years and it has grew a lot since then. We walked around the whole time and watching some men fight and joust. All fun and exciting to see how into it everyone was. Since we had to reschedule our glassblowing event to another day, she had fun watching the lady demonstrate glassblowing and is now more excited than ever for when our class comes around in the future. She was like a kid in a candy shop. Precious.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Whistle Stop Tea Room | Tomball, Texas

We had a quick lunch at Whistle Stop Tea Room. Everything was delicious. My favourite was the pasta salad and their broccoli and cheese soup. Amy liked their tortilla soup. I would love to come back.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Galaxy Nail and Spa | Tomball, Texas | Jade Siam Thai Massage Therapy | Magnolia, Texas

We went back to the hotel so that Amy could change into sweats for our pedicure at Galaxy Nail Spa. Afterward, we drove close to our massage place, Jade Siam Thai Massage Therapy. We walked around TJ Maxx where we came out with goodies before heading to get our muscles worked on. It was her first time getting stretched during a massage and my first time getting stepped on in the US (I’ve had a legit Thai massage in Thailand). We came out refreshed.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Mikado | Magnolia, Texas

We feasted on habachi and sushi at Mikado. It hit the spot. She mentioned loving to eat with me because I order so much. I, on the other hand, need to learn to order less. But surprisingly, we didn’t have a lot left over.

It was back to the hotel to relax and sleep.

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Amy | Sleek Creperie & Cafe | Cypress, Texas

This morning, we woke up, drove our separate cars to Sleek Creperie & Cafe. We both got our own savory crepe and lattes, and shared a sweet one together. Thank goodness because that sweet crepe was bigger than our faces! They also sell chocolates and gelato. I want to come back and try those out as well.

We said our goodbyes and headed home.

It’s not rare that people drive to my world but what’s rare is that they make time for me when they end up by me. To this day, Amy is one of the easiest people to travel with. We literally had no plans other than glassblowing, which got rescheduled, and the Texas Renaissance Festival. We ended up filling our time up with things by just talking. Ever since I introduced her to reflexology on our California trip, it’s become a thing for us to incorporate massages into our trips – like Liliana and I with massages and facials. These chill trips with Amy makes me feel so refreshed after. Sigh, cannot wait for our next one!

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Cirque du Soleil Alegria | Beth & Mallory

I went home and took an amazing nap before heading to Mallory’s. We picked up Beth and headed to Sam Houston Race Park to see my (and Mallory’s) first Cirque du Soleil Alegria. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was way better than that. Mallory drank coffee hoping to stay away prior, but I don’t think anyone needs assistance in staying awake. They keep you pulled in with fire, flips, air swings, and more. The live musical performance was so beautiful with the addition to the performance made me tear up on many occasions. I am now wanting to attend ALL of them because it was just that fun! Thank you, Beth, for getting us early tickets for such wonderfulness!

2021 | Week 87 of Quarantine | Frankenstein | Jinya | Katy, Texas

I had a late dinner date with Frankenstein at Jinya. He was nice enough to drive all the way to me since I had such a busy night. We sat outside for his big bowl of ramen and my kids meal that came with SO much variety of food. We paid and continued talking to the point where it started to get cold. We fought the chill until it was way past their closing time and a waiter had to go around all the tables and practically kick us out.

This whole entire weekend has been filled with memorable moments and getting to end it seeing him was icing on the cake! This coming week will be crazy and tiring. Bring it on. I’m (kinda) ready for you.

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Dish Society | Katy, Texas | Sebastian's Late Birthday Lunch

Finally celebrated Sebastian’s birthday by treating him to lunch at Dish Society. First time going off to lunch during work day and it was nice to get away. Never enough time to talk but always the best conversations.

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Ambriza | Kay, Texas | Mallory's Birthday Dinner with Beth

Thursday night, Beth and I finally went out to dinner to celebrate Mallory’s birthday at Ambriza. Since it was our first time, we got the corn for free. And since it was her birthday, they had a frame to take pictures with and a free tres leches as they sung happy birthday to her. The food was good but the company was better. We later took pics outside the Christmas tree that’s been lit and Mallory was freezing and jokingly put on the scarf I made her. Haha

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Balayage Hair

Since I was off Friday, I finally fixed my hair to a more natural colour for Jenny’s upcoming wedding. It was so blonde before that it’s still super light in certain places but overall, looks great. Also, found my go to hair dresser. Win!

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Roots | Houston, Texas | Sissy, BIL, Timothy, Lillian, Jacky

Sarurday, Sissy, BIL, Timothy, Lillian, Jacky, and I met at Roots Wine Bar prior to Sarah’s performance.

You give them your credit card and they link it to the chip card they have. The chip card is used for the wine machines where you can choose 1oz, 3 oz, or 5 oz pours of certain wines. So much to choose from and they even have a placard you can take that describes the wines in detail. Every with is different cost depending what it is as well. (Note: If you make reservations you have to put a $10 deposit for each person. That money ends up on one chip card and if you don’t use it all you lose it. We went over so not sure if you spend money on food if it can go towards it though.)

Although food isn’t the main thing here it was a hot. Expensive with little portions but it was delicious. We were surprised by the steak tartare. I think that was my first time and was well worth it.

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Lazarus Dance Featuring Sarah | Houston, Texas | Sissy, BIL, Timothy, Lillian, Jacky

We headed off to Sarah’s performance sans BIL. The costumes and live music accompaniment was perfect. The music was written by the grandfather of the person that put it all together. It’s crazy how she still dances professionally. Who said you can’t dance after a certain age?

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Thaicoon, Big City Wings, Hot Pot

Some good eats for the week. Thaicoon is still the best Thai place. Big City Wings wasn’t hitting the spot with their flavours. But the hot pot made a comeback after so long since it’s starting to get cold.

2021 | Week 86 of Quarantine | Cats & Dogs, Night and Day Paris Puzzles

I went puzzle crazy this week and finished four of them. My cats and dogs 10 set puzzle is now completed. Sad some had missing pieces though due to kids or manufacturers but since it’s so old, nothing I can do Those were hard since all the pieces had the same shapes but very rewarding.

The rest of the month is going to be a bit crazy … but fun. I cannot wait for the hump to be over so I can relax a bit though.

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine | Rizzo While I Work

Rizzo still stares at me a lot while I work.

As of this afternoon (Sunday), I have applied to the first round of jobs available. 6 total within my company. Three weeks or so, we’ll find out the results.

Fingers crossed I get something.

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine | Rizzo Walks

I’ve been taking Rizzo on walks and he’s super lazy. After 15 to 20 minutes he just wants to lay down on the grass. Luckily he doesn’t really run away so I left him on my front lawn and continued my walks alone until he was ready again.

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine | Steak Dinner

My steak meals are getting better and better. And eating this helped my iron count for the next day.

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine | Blood Donation Fail

i had a breakfast tacos from Los Roberto’s on the way to the blood donation center. I passed all the tests this time but they failed at putting in the needle. Luckily I got a shirt.

I go again this Friday. Hopefully the third time’s the charm.

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine | Nail Wraps and Jacob

Saturday afternoon I went over to Mallory’s. We did nails with Beth. We’ve come to realize we can get three full sets completed out of two sets. Saves a lot of money! So kind of cool.

Beth tried getting Jacob to crawl. Still not there yet but he’s good at spinning himself around.

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine | Daddy Duncan's BBQ, Texas Sno and Erma Rose Winery | JJ

We went to Daddy Duncan’s BBQ truck, Erma Rose Winery and Texas Sno. Beth and Scott met up with us.

The BBQ was fantastic! I love BBQ sides so much! As for the winery, I’m a little meh about it but I probably need a lot more tries to fully decide.

I opted out of the snow cone this time but it’s definitely on my list.

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine | Aggies Car Decal

Mallory got a new car so I made her a decal I saw from online. Hit me up. Bahaha

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine | Emmy and Bubbles

Today, Emmy came down with Dad from Dallas. She still loves her bubbles and Halloween sing-a-longs.

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine | Father's Day Meal

I had a whole spread of food for Father’s Day. Timothy joined after he dropped Dad and Emmy off. I ordered Church’s Chicken with a few sides and made the rest.

2020 | Week 14 of Quarantine | Pound Cake and Berries

I made little pound cake topped with berries and whipped cream for Dad and Emmy. They gobbled it all up.

It’s been a good weekend. The only thing I’m worried about is the whole job thing but I’ve done my part. It’s out of my hands and I can only stay positive.

2019 Cousin’s Trip | Day 3

October 7, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

  • 2019 Cousin’s Trip | Day 3 | Tourist Home Cafe & Bakery | Flagstaff, Arizona | Hash Bowl

Today was a day where we all pretty much spent it together. We drove and had a nice breakfast at Tourist Home Cafe & Bakery near our Airbnb. I ordered the Hash Bowl which was terrific. I’ve never cooked with beets before but I just might after this experience. I need to recreate it!

2019 Cousin’s Trip | Day 3 | Fay Canyon | Sedona, Arizona

We then drove to Sedona and started on our hike at Fay Canyon. I was wearing long sleeves everything but I didn’t feel overheated. When I talk about hiking, I talk about this. Simple, pretty flat, rocks with a pretty view. The pictures really don’t do it justice.

2019 Cousin’s Trip | Day 3 | Fay Canyon | Sedona, Arizona | Arch Way

Everything was dandy until we deviated off the path for a tougher, more steep off the road path so that we could get up to the arches. We had to leave SIL under some shade since it was getting too tough for her. But we did it!

2019 Cousin’s Trip | Day 3 | Fay Canyon | Sedona, Arizona | Top of Arch View

The view is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The breeze was so rewarding. Getting pricked by cactus was worth it.

2019 Cousin’s Trip | Day 3 | Fay Canyon | Sedona, Arizona | End of Maintained Trail

The way down was hell. I thought I was going to fall a few times but we survived and finished off the trail. I didn’t finish the other hike up since my knee was killing me but we all survived and made it back to the car.

2019 Cousin’s Trip | Day 3 | Art of Wine | Sedona, Arizona

We went to The Art of Wine for a sip. I opted out of drinking since I was driving back. I shared a grapefruit fizzy type drink instead and we ordered a couple hummus for the table.

2019 Cousin’s Trip | Day 3 | Wildflower Bread Company | Sedona, Arizona

They didn’t have any cheese and meat boards because they apparently ran out so we went to Wildflower Bread Company for some soup and bread.

2019 Cousin’s Trip | Day 3 | View | Sedona, Arizona

We walked back to our car and saw this amazing view. I am still mesmerized that nature made this and am thankful I got to witness it.

2019 Cousin’s Trip | Day 3 | Josephine's | Flagstaff, Arizona

We all drove back to the Airbnb, showered and got ready. We decided to dress up a little for our last night together. We ended up at Josephine’s and it was a great pick. Because we have a bigger party we were seated on the upper floor and We’re able to hear each other talk. Everything tasted fantastic to where we decided to get dessert too. Highly recommended.

Tomorrow we head back to the real world. I’m not ready.

2018 San Antonio Trip for Our 2nd Dating Anniversary | Day 2

April 7, 2018 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

2018 San Antonio Trip | Alamo Beer | San Antonio, Texas | Beer Flight

Scruffy woke up pretty early but since I slept late, I didn’t wake up until almost eleven and by that time, it was time for lunch soooo, we headed over to Alamo Beer and shared a flight.

2018 San Antonio Trip | So. Tex BBQ | San Antonio, Texas

They had a food truck set up outside, SO. Tex BBQ.

2018 San Antonio Trip | So. Tex BBQ | San Antonio, Texas | BBQ Sandwich, Sausage Wrap, Pico de Gallo

He ordered a pork sandwich and I ordered a sausage wrap. Hands down, best sausage I’ve had. Scruffy attest that any sausage with a natural casing is my favourite. I just love that crunch, or snap, as Scruffy would say.

2018 San Antonio Trip | The Pearl | San Antonio, Texas

Afterward, we headed over to The Pearl. It’s an area that I’ve done a brisk walk before when I came for dinner but never really took it in.

2018 San Antonio Trip | The Twig Book Shop | San Antonio, Texas

We walked into a lot of random places but The Twig Book Shop needs to be mentioned. Scruffy isn’t a book reader so I was surprised when he walked up to the cash register with one to purchase. The pages have short facts in them and apparently pleases him to know he won’t have to read something page to page like a novel.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Bottling Department | San Antonio, Texas

He grabbed a beer from Bottling Department and we were able to take it anywhere on the property. All we had to do was recycle. How cool is that?!

2018 San Antonio Trip | The Pearl | San Antonio, Texas | Scenery

And how gorgeous is this?! I wanted to get a close up picture but it was super cold and Scruffy wasn’t having it. Getting this picture still made me happy enough to let it go.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Hotel Emma | San Antonio, Texas

I was finally able to go to Hotel Emma. It is so beautiful inside and historic. We tried to take many selfies while we were in there but I didn’t like much of them of myself.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Scruffy

Here’s my love standing outside. We aren’t too sure what this is for but I liked the design.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Brew's Lee Tea Station | San Antonio, Texas | Milk Tea with Pearls and Glowing Tea

We stopped by Brew’s Lee Tea Station where I was able to finally get a dual drink! I’ve always wanted to try this place since I see a lot of my friends posting about it. Sadly the milk tea with pearls and glowing tea wasn’t anything to rave about. I will say everything was way too sweet and I felt I was getting into a diabetic shock. Spoiler alert: the glowing tea is tangerine.

2018 San Antonio Trip | For The Kids Dance Marathon at UTSA

We stopped by my old stomping grounds and visited the For The Kids Dance Marathon at UTSA. I will say it was a little awkward showing up but I figured since I was in town, it only made sense. We hauled ass out of there though. Later in the night, we found out they raised $50000 or so which isn’t too bad.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Reds, Whites, & Brews Restaurant | San Antonio, Texas

After leaving, we went to Reds, Whites & Brews Restaurant.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Reds, Whites, & Brews Restaurant | San Antonio, Texas | Red Wine, Baked Brie with Jalapeno Jam

We ordered a Malbec and chomped on some baked brie and jalapeno jam. The garlic herb butter they served with the bread was the bomb. We literally spread that on the bottom of the bread before slathering on the brie and jam combo. Omg … go try that out!

2018 San Antonio Trip | Bush's Chicken | San Antonio, Texas

We were heading back to the hotel but Scruffy saw Bush’s Chicken and just HAD to have it.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Bush's Chicken | San Antonio, Texas | Chicken

Let’s just say he was a bit disappointed. We saved the rest later that night after a night of drinking and hanging out with friends so, not much complaint, but not much to rave about.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Cover 3 | San Antonio, Texas

Patricia was nice enough to come pick us up and we headed to Cover 3 where we met up with Amy and Jackie.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Cover 3 | San Antonio, Texas | Dos-a-rita

I started off with a dos-a-rita, that’s not what they called it but that’s what I’m calling it. I felt wayyyyyyy good after that if you know what I mean.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Cover 3 | San Antonio, Texas | Margarita Flatbread

Scruffy got the Margarita Flatbread which was a hit for him. He loved it so much and says it’s the best flatbread he’s ever had. I’ll have to agree.

2018 San Antonio Trip | Cover 3 | San Antonio, Texas | Chicken Fried NY Strip

He wanted to try the Chicken Fried NY Strip as well so I got that and it was equally as delicious. The potatoes were …. omg. Just anything slathered with garlic is a hit for me lately. #vampiresbackoff

2018 | 097/365 | 2018 San Antonio Trip | Patricia, Amy, & Mellie Dee

[2018] 097/365: Love These Gals

These girls. I don’t see or talk to them often but when I do, it’s always a ball. I love them so much and am always glad to have them in my life and that we are able to pick up right where we left off.

After we bid our farewells, Patricia was nice enough to drop us off and even come to our room and hang out with us. We talked about so many random things and it brings back college memories. I miss having these days with any and all of my friends so I definitely appreciated this a lot.

So many memories have been gained from taking this trip and I cannot wait for more.
