2019 Summer Trip | Day 3

August 2, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Tim Horton's | Meadville, Pennsylvania

Liliana and I got to sleep in before getting ready. We stopped and had breakfast at Tim Horton’s. They give out such good coupon deals so the meal was fairly cheap.

We stopped by Daniel’s hospital to drop off his food and coffee before heading out for our day.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Chateau Christine | Meadville, Pennsylvania

As promised we started at Chateau Christine’s to check out her 80% deals. We got such great goodies!

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Vera Bradley Backpack from Liliana

This Vera Bradley backpack was 50% off! Liliana saw it and had to get it and I fell in love with it as well especially since my work backpack I brought with me was falling apart at the seams. I went online to see if they had more since they were out of stock at the store.

As we left the place and was driving to our next destination, Lily surprised me with the backpack. My heart … I feel so loved. Thank you, Lily!! I love it a million and cannot wait to use it for the first time in Ohio! This backpack is huge and cute and waterproof!! I also love that it isn’t a crazy pattern like usual Vera Bradley things.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Conneaut Cellars Winery | Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania

We stopped by Conneaut Cellars Winery. Doesn’t Lily look adorable with her new umbrella? They’ve won so many medals throughout the years. It was pretty overwhelming.

They give out six complementary samples per person and you get to pick any six on their list. If you wanted the fancier ones you had to pay $2 for the first and $1 for every one after that. It was worth it to get the whole experience. If you buy one of those special bottles they waive the fee which was pretty cool. We just ended up buying the Merlot instead and called it a day.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Pineapple Eddie Southern Bistro | Erie, Pennsylvania
Chicken Poblano Soup with Cornbread Muffins; Shrimp and Grits; Pork Belly and Grits

A late lunch at Pineapple Eddie’s Southern Bistro was a big hit! We loved everything we tried. I’m not a fan of cornbread and I was in love mostly because it wasn’t dry. This place is a must try. Don’t miss out! P.S. It seems to be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | The Shops at the Colony | Erie, Pennsylvania

We walked for hours at The Shops at the Colony. They had many little shops with cute things. I will say that I’m surprised I haven’t bought as much as I thought I would this trip but it’s probably to early to tell.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | The Original Popcorn House | Erie, Pennsylvania

One of my favourite purchase is from The Original Popcorn House. Lily bought three bags and I bought two and I’m excited to take it with us on the ride to Ohio. Good road trip snack.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Wal-Mart Crane Game Winner, Liliana

We went back to the house to drop our stuff off before heading to Wal-Mart for groceries. Liliana made a go at the crane game and actually won something for Daniel!

I volunteered to make dinner and we were having a guest over, Stephen, one of Daniel’s coworkers. I’m already a nervous wreck when I cook for others because I’m afraid they’ll hate it so having a whole new stranger try my cooking was nerve-wracking.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Homemade Dinner by Mellie Dee
Appetizer: Guacamole, Salsa, and Chips | Entree: Crunchwrap | Dessert: Sopapillas with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and Nutella Drizzle

I was surprised but everyone loved it! And even said that they can’t ever go back to Taco Bell anymore. I’m sure they were joking but it made me feel better. Daniel was nice enough to assist with the dessert since I’m not good at using their stove. I was the head chef giving orders as he executed them. I’m happy with how everything came out.

Once I’m back home, I’ll give the recipe for the crunchwrap. Oh, and did I mention Jack Daniel’s has their own Jack and Coke bottled? How crazy … Crazy cool!

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Voodoo Brewery | Meadville, Pennsylvania

We headed to Voodoo Brewery since it’s been on my list. Stephen had already dranked part of his drink so he wasn’t allowed to put it into the picture. They had mostly IPAs but it wasn’t too bad.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Biker Festival | Meadville, Pennsylvania

They decided they wanted a bucket drink so we went through then Biker Festival crowd. There was a live band playing a lot of 90s music. I had fun twirling on the street in the nice weather.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Chestnut Street Pub & Grill | Meadville, Pennsylvania | Bucket Drinks | Liliana, Daniel, Stephen

The three got their bucket drinks from Chestnut Street Pub and Grill. I was done with sugar so I didn’t want my own. I did take a sip of Lily’s and it reminded me of a Skittle. Very delicious but I was also very full to put anything else in my belly.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Matching Bows and Blue and White Dresses | Liliana and Mellie Dee

This morning when we took food to Daniel at the hospital he took our pictures. Then he took another one later at night. Can you spot the similarities and difference between us?

We both have matching bow hair clips that we got from the railroad visit yesterday. It’s made out of wood and we just HAD to have them. We also didn’t know we’d both be wearing blue and white dresses and loved that we somewhat matched. Lily is also wearing her new pineapple shoes in the picture on the right so she fully matched to my blue shoes and our outfits were complete.

2019 Summer Trip Day 3 | Tops | Meadville, Pennsylvania | Scratch Offs

We hung out on the street while they chugged their drinks. Then we walked to Tops, a grocery store, so that I could buy lotto tickets. Stephen got Grumpy Cat ones and ended up winning $15 on the $4 he spent on the cards. Daniel and Lily spent money on the crane but didn’t end up winning. I’m saving my tickets for the ride tomorrow.

I had to call it a day since I was getting tired and we have a busy day tomorrow. Eeek! I cannot wait!!

The General Public | Houston, Texas

July 13, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I had a good few hours of sleep in before getting pawed by Rizzo to go out. After relaxing for a bit Timothy came to pick me and June up to go to The Escape Game Houston, Playground edition meeting up with Sissy, BIL, Gordon, and Patsy.

The Escape Game | Houston, Texas | Playground

Thanks to The Houston Bloggers Union, it was all free! And we had a great time! The object of the game was to go through and solve puzzles pretaining to our report card. We were slow to start but ended up getting through everything with only 54 seconds to spare! We were cutting it close!! All A+’s!! I’ve never had all As on my report card! Haha

The General Public | Houston, Texas | Shrimp and Grits and Potato Au Gratin

Afterward we all headed across the street to the General Public. This has been on my list to try since they opened and I was thrilled to have good company with me.

Shrimp and Grits with a sunny side up egg. The grits are made out of cauliflower and although it did have a different texture, I feel better knowing it’s a tad healthier than if they were grits.

The side of Potato Au Gratin was okay. Not anything go hit home about. I wished the green chili came through more.

I did get to try some fries and it was perfect fried and seasoned! I’d come back for that!

Fish by John

We all went out separate ways and I laid in bed with Rizzo for about a good thirty minutes before heading out to Mallory’s. John was having Trey and Robby over for dinner so Mallory asked if I wanted to join. We had fish cooked by John and everything else by Mallory. Yum!

JJ and the Telly

After dinner we all sat in the living room and watched telly. JJ kept attacking Trey and I and although it was tiring since I haven’t been getting much sleep, I had fun. There were times where he would sit peacefully and watch telly and I loved when he say in my lap. Makes me miss Emmy. After JJ went to bed, we played Mario Kart and watched more telly before calling it a night.

Gus’s World Fried Chicken | Houston, Texas

July 12, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Jumped on an early morning call with the prototyping team. I love seeing it come together and I really hope it gets signed off by the high ups. But if not, we can always build our own through the local team.

I spent four hours after that with Dad at his doctor appointments. It was mostly a lot of waiting but I was able to get in a twenty five minute nap afterwards since I only had two hours of sleep.

La Madeline with Joel

I drove and picked up Joel for lunch at La Madeline, more of a snack for me but I got kind of full. He was sweet in buying me a fruit tart since I got coffee last time. My little intern is all grown up!

Gus's World Fried Chicken | Houston, Texas | Salim

After a while of catching up with Joel, I dropped him off at his work and went and picked up Salim from his work for a super late lunch at Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, his favourite fried chicken place. (That’s only because he’s never been to Jollibee or Bawls!)

Dark thighs are always my favourite and it was pretty darn good. I wished it was spicier but other than that, it’s a pretty good southern fried chicken. We thought their greens would be green beans but if was collard greens. I was a bit disappointed but they started growing on me as I ate them.

Gus's World Fried Chicken | Houston, Texas | Sweet Potato Pie

He also said they had good pies, at least the ones he has tried. He’s never had sweet potato pie here so we decided to be “healthy”. He says this was the worst pie he’s gotten here. I agree. It wasn’t that great. If I ever come back I’ll try one of the chess pies he likes.

I’ve been wanting to try this place and glad I finally got to cross it off my list! Where’s my next new foodventure?

Cosa Bella Salon & Day Spa | Houston, Texas

I got a haircut today. I’m still in search of a new place so I ended up at Cosa Bella. I feel like not too long ago (two months?) I had my hair cut and it has grown a lot so I snipped off over four inches of hair!

Cosa Bella Salon & Day Spa | Houston, Texas | Haircut

It’s a quaint little place and right when I walked in people were ready to work on me  I first got my brows done then I had a very nice lady cut my hair.

Cosa Bella Salon & Day Spa | Houston, Texas | Facial

I wanted to book a facial as well but the front desk lady wasn’t so nice and said there wasn’t any opened slots. Luckily the lady who did my brows had time and she gave me a very relaxing facial. As relaxing as it could be since I had a lot of blackheads and she needed to get into them. She asked me to come back and book a larger section of time and we could get more done but we’ll see. I might go somewhere else for a full facial one day.

I was there for two hours but they were both super nice and kept the conversation going making it a fast visit. They were very informative as well which is always great.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas

I had thirty minutes to kill before dinner for Houston Restaurant Week with Juhi and Erin at Kitchen 713. I drove over and relaxed in the car as I waited for time to pass.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas | Crispy Eggplant & Gumbo

Soon enough we were seated and were served our first course, Crispy Eggplant and Gumbo. They picked the same thing while I went the less traditional route. Everything tasted delicious.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas | Black Vinegar Braised Oxtail, Shrimp & Grits, & Bourbon Glazed Pork Chops

We couldn’t put a dent into our second course and packed most of it away. Black Vinegar Braised Oxtail, Shrimp & Grits, and Bourbon Glazed Pork Chops. There was so many oxtail portions that I brought it home for my family!

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas | Espresso Creme Brulee & Sweet Potato Bread Pudding

We all saved room for dessert. They both ordered the Sweet Potato Bread Pudding and the Espresso Creme Brulee for me. We polished these off.

2018 | 226/365 | 2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas | Juhi, Erin, Mellie Dee

[2018] 226/365: Juhi & Erin

It was nice getting together with these ladies and being able to enjoy a joyouse evening together. We talked nonstop for two and a half hours and if it was the weekend I’m sure we could have talked for many more hours.

It sucks that they have their own stories together now without me but I guess that’s just life. I can only hope we have more of these moments together.

Now to get ready for bed and cuddle with Rizzo. Night, everyone!

Free Foods and Panda Backpack

August 9, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Free Treebeards at Work

One of the teams at work ordered way too much food so we got to grab some as well. It’s from one of my favourite downtown restaurants, Treebeards. I finally got to try their chicken, gumbo, and etouffee. The etouffee was the best out of the three but does it compare to their fried chicken? I’m not too sure. I had so much food, I couldn’t even finish it!

Ice Cream Party at Work Building

Few hours later our building had an ice cream social. I got strawberry and cookies and cream with some goodies on top just for picture purposes. I couldn’t finish this either. I’m a ome-spoon-of-ice-cream type of girl.

2018 | 221/365 | Panda Backpack

[2018] 221/365: Panda Backpack

Before leaving work, I saw this cute Panda backpack. We donated some money to get school supplies for kids who can’t afford it. My good deed of the day is complete.

I took a picture of this and send it to Scruffy hoping that you get me one. It’s from Target for $17! But what would I put in it? Is it frowned upon for an almost thirty year old to carry around a panda backpack like it’s their purse?
