2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine

April 5, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Work from Home Rizzo

Work was horrible in the beginning of the week but it was nice getting Friday off even though everyone knows I have issues signing off. Turning around working on my secondary work laptop and seeing this face makes my heart so happy.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Rizzo and Ukulele

I took the plunge and finally got myself a ukulele, mostly because Brudda wants me to teach Emmy. It’s super easy since I already know guitar. Only thing I need to work on is getting my huge fingers to fit on the fret well enough. This came with a case, capo, electric tuner, extra strings, picks, strap and a little guide book – amazing! I also like that it’s not the usual hole in the middle so it gives it a little flair. I’m getting concert requests from friends like the college days with the guitar so we’ll see how comfortable I am.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Egg, Beet and Veggie Bake

I had time to cook lunch Friday and opted to use up some old vegetables lying around, zucchini, Brussels, and carrots. I added in beets and eggs all baked to perfection. This is definitely my easiest bake meal.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Orleans Seafood Kitchen | Katy, Texas | Door Dash

We decided to get crawfish for dinner. Mostly for me since everyone else had their own food. This is from Orleans Seafood House. They don’t have the usual flavour I love, just Cajun, but was still super flavourful, spicy, and cooked perfectly. The lemon garlic butter was perfect for the potatoes. Definitely putting that in my boils in the future!

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Rizzo Freshly Cut and Clean

Many people complained of Rizzo’s crazy hair so I went and trimmed him up and gave him a wash. Fresh and clean! He was so good and even let me do the bottom of his paws too.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Diamond Painting

Other than phone calls and video chats to keep busy, I jumped on the bandwagon with Diamond Painting. More like diamond placing. It’s actually very relaxing and I’m already more than halfway done and have another one waiting for me. I might share the end product once I finish.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Rizzo Watching Me Diamond Painting

This was Rizzo’s stages of watching me do this project. He’s so cute.

2020 | Week 3 of Quarantine | Tandoori Grill | Katy, Texas | UberEats

June and I have been obsessed with Tandoori Grill and ordered it AGAIN. We convinced Mum she had to try it so the outcome looks as if we ordered the whole store. They are awesome and added a ton of papadum when I asked for it – all for free! Love this restaurant and the fact that they’re not stingy with the servings too!

We’ve been told that quarantine life will last till May or even up to July. So far, the introverted me is okay with this life. Especially if Amazon stays open and we have enough alcohol to spray everything down, I’ll always be able to get my groceries and fun project stuff to fill the time.

I hope the rest of y’all are doing well.

Seafood, Reunions, Theater, & Bar Hopping

September 15, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Yesterday was so busy I didn’t have time to blog! It’s been a long while since that has happened. Overall, it was a great relaxing day. I put down the worries and didn’t care. I went with the flow and everything went very well.

Nail Bar | Katy, Texas | Mimosa, Pedicure, Manicure

I started off getting a manicure and pedicure by myself to relax and enjoyed a mimosa while doing so. In less than half an hour I was out the door. They have great timing and get so many customers because of it.

Footworks with June

I went home and relaxed for half an hour before heading back out the door with June. We went and got reflexology massage at Footworks. $30 per person for an hour. So freaking worth it.

Yummy Crawfish & Seafood | Katy, Texas | The Yummy-nator, Crawfish, Shrimp
The Yummy-Nator [2 pieces snow crabs, 2 pieces blue crabs, 2 lb crawfish, 6 pieces shrimp, 2 pieces corn, 2 pieces potatoes, mushrooms in combo mixer, spicy] | ~$50 • 1 lb crawfish [Cajun, medium spicy] | $6.99 • 1 lb shrimp [yummy house delight, medium spicy] | $12.99

June and I went to Yummy Crawfish and Seafood. We weren’t sure if it’ll be good but since my usual place closed down I’ve been searching for a new one. They have great flavour but not spicy enough. We will definitely come back even though it’s a bit expensive. I love having the snow crabs but didn’t care much about the blue crabs.

June and I believe I might be allergic to crawfish since I never feel well after. Shrimp and snow crabs only might be what I’ll have to end up having if that’s the case. With sporadic crawfish feast … obviously.

Hong Kong Cafe | Houston, Texas | Nancy

I took a nap and talked to London before heading out the door for dinner with Nancy. I haven’t seen her in a couple years since Thuy’s wedding. We shared beef noodles, pork chop bake, and Hong Kong French toast. I was glad she loved it and it warmed my heart that the toast reminds her of her dad. He would be super proud of the woman she’s become.

The Hobby Center | Houston, Texas | A Chorus Line | Nancy

Her boss gave her free tickets to the play, A Chorus Line, since they couldn’t make it anymore. We had no clue what it was about and it ended to being so good. We can’t believe her boss paid $90 for each ticket!

Electric Feel-good | Houston, Texas | Nancy, Carmen, Adam

We got an Uber and meet up with Carmen and Adam at Electric Feelgood. We ordered drinks and took a lot of pictures and boomerangs before heading to other places to check out the scene.

It’s the latest I’ve stayed out for a long while and was happy that I got to go and enjoy a night out in downtown, something I always want to do once in a while.

I finished Love Alarm from Netflix since I wasn’t able to fall asleep until 5am. I ended up sleeping for a good two hours before waking up. Today has been relaxing. Sissy and BIL came over with lunch from Aji Ramen, watched the Texans game and bought thickets to the Astros game. Meal prep took only 20 minutes thanks to the instant pot. I need to look for more recipes!

2019 Houston Restaurant Week | The Union Kitchen – Memorial | Houston, Texas

August 28, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Work went by fairly quickly today. Before we knew it, it was time to meet Juhi, Amelia, and Chase at The Union Kitchen in Memorial for my last planned HRW for $35 per person.

2019 Houston Restaurant Week | The Union Kitchen - Memorial | Houston, Texas | Cajun Deviled Eggs with Colossal Crab, Chicken Tortilla Soup, Shrimp and Crab Fondue
Shrimp and Crab Fondue [with roasted garlic crostini] | Cajun Deviled Eggs with Colossal Crab [4 each half eggs with creamy Cajun seasoned yolk filled topped with flash fried blue, smoked paprika and Chipotle aioli] | Chicken Tortilla Soup [braised chicken, roasted poblano and corn, topped with fresh avocado, fried tortilla strips, Pico de Gallo and cotija cheese]

The best out of the three was the fondue. Filling and delicious. The soup was nothing special as you can usually get that anywhere and the deviled eggs per Chase wouldn’t be his choice since he’s a man and portion size trumps taste sometimes.

2019 Houston Restaurant Week | The Union Kitchen - Memorial | Houston, Texas | Veal Osso Bucco Milanese, Surf and Turf, Gulf Coast Jumbo Lump Crab Cake
Veal Osso Bucco Milanese [braised veal shank with saffron risotto and gremolata] | Surf and Turf [14 oz ribeye and shrimp embrochette with cheddar au gratin potatoes] | Gulf Coast Jumbo Lump Crab Cake [with cavum lemon butter sauce, dirty rice and grilled asparagus]

The veal was a little dry on top but the inside was fine. The sauce on top didn’t do much since it dried up a little as well. Green beans could be cooked a little longer though. I loved the bone marrow in my veal though!

The crab cake was very good and the rice seemed to be a dirty pilaf type. Chase loved his steak and cleaned his plate! I’d probably get the steak or crab cake if I got to do it over again.

2019 Houston Restaurant Week | The Union Kitchen - Memorial | Houston, Texas | White Chocolate Champagne Pound Cake, Almond Raspberry Torte
White Chocolate Champagne Pound Cake [with warm grilled peach compote and vanilla ice cream] | Almond Raspberry Torte [layered yellow butter cake and raspberry filling with almond cream cheese icing]

No one seemed to want the flan but thinking back, maybe that would have been better. These two desserts weren’t good at all. The pound cake tasted a little stale. I think the white chocolate made it dense. I didn’t taste the vanilla in the ice cream either.

As for the torte, the raspberry filling was too tart and overpowered the cake layers and almond cream cheese. None of us finished our desserts and we didn’t pack it up either which says a lot of me.

The food overall was good but I don’t know if it’s a place I’d come if it wasn’t for the HRW. I did hear from a coworker the breakfast is very good. Maybe I need to check it out.

Taylor Swift's Lover Album Version 1 to 4

My Lover Taylor Swift albums arrived!!!! I know. It’s stupid to get them all but ever since she came out with her first album I’ve always bought all the different versions and I just had to! I like reading the things she wrote when she was a kid. Shows you how much she’s grown too!

I’m hoping tomorrow goes by fast so that I can start my four day weekend! Eeeeeek!

Babies, Events, and Christmas

December 27, 2016 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

It’s been a long while since I’ve last updated. Life took hold yet again and I don’t regret it at all! Sometimes you just gotta live so here are some highlights of the past couple months.

Tasting Room | Houston, Texas | Apurva & Mellie Dee

I had two blogging opportunities that I keep forgetting to recap. The Tasting Room at City Centre (with Apurva) and Diamonds & Desserts (with Sissy).

Robbins Brothers | Promise & Engagement Ring

I had fun at both and found my promise ring, engagement ring, and wedding ring at Robbins Brothers. Just kidding, I am not the type of girl that fantasized over getting married and I highly doubt these will be the ones. Nonetheless, it was fun to try them on and spend time with Sissy.

Baby Ems Announcement & Baby Shower

Broseph and SIL finally announced to the world about their pregnancy and Sissy and I threw a family baby shower. I will be Auntie to a little baby girl in February!

Baby John Jr. & Mellie Dee

Mallory and John welcomed their bundle of joy this year. Look at that face!! I cannot wait to see him grow up!

Speaking of babies, Wacko and Monica’s little Emma is to be born any day now! Eeep! So excited. So many babies!!

Bombay Grill | Richmond, Texas | Indian Food

I tried Indian food for the first time since I last almost threw up and … I survived and even ended up liking it more than I thought I would. It takes a while for the food to make but it’s worth it and we’ve been back a second time since then.

Dinner for Scruffy

I’ve never truly made Scruffy a full meal since other people were always around and I was afraid of the critique. I found an opportunity one week and voila! He told me it tasted really good so … I’ll take his word for it.

Rebelution Concert | Houston, Texas

Scruffy’s favourite band, Rebelution, played at the White Oak Music Hall which was a whole new experience for me. You could definitely feel the love of music that night.

Via Colori | Houston, Texas

Scruffy, Jamie, and Ashy accompanied me to Via Colori. Artwork was done with chalk on a sidewalk. It has always been on my list of things to check out so I’m happy that I was able to finally go. These people are hella talented!

Scruffy & Mellie Dee | Work Christmas Party

I was able to attend Scruffy’s work Christmas party at Backstreet Cafe. This has always been on Apurva and I’s list of places to hit but never had a chance to. The food is pretty good but it’s not a place that I will crave to go back to.

2016 Christmas | Dallas, Texas | Scruffy & Rizzo

Christmas this year was super busy. On the 23rd, Scruffy’s intermediate family met up for food, white elephant, and saran wrap ball game. On the 24th, we drove up to Dallas for my immediate family for some all you can eat Korean BBQ, gift opening, games, dinner, and baby room reveal before driving back down. On the 25th, Scruffy’s immediate family had breakfast and gift opening in the morning, and at night, my intermediate family had dinner and gift opening. We are both all Christmas’d out!

We also went to Colorado for a weekend getaway but I’ll do a recap in the next post.
