Ed and I met at Black Walnut Café in Cinco Ranch.

Black Walnut Cafe | Katy, Texas | Garlic Cheese Bread

Ed and I shared the Garlic Cheese Bread for starters. These are the devil. They were so good that we couldn’t stop and was sad when it was over.

Black Walnut Cafe | Katy, Texas | Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup

I got the Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup as my main entree. The soup wasn’t something to talk about and if you love cheese, this grilled cheese is perfect for you.

I was so full but Ed wanted to hang out some more before he had to go to work so we went to Starbucks down the street. He paid for my Green Tea Frap since I paid for the appetizer.

Afterward, I went home and played my guitar. Ed re-strung all the strings for me since I’m always afraid it will pop in my face (because that has happened before).

Reunited and it feels so good!

I headed into Sugar Land to meet up with Amanda. It was supposed to be us and two of her other friends but they couldn’t make it. Oh well, more time for us to catch up!

I went to pick her up and we headed to:

Bravos Mexican Restaurant | Sugar Land, Texas

Bravos Mexican Restaurant
4514 Texas 6

Amanda has never been to happy hour before so we popped her happy hour cherry. I believe it was also the first time she’s drank since her birthday celebration.

Bravos Mexican Restaurant | Sugar Land, Texas | Chips and Dip

Chips & Dip | Free. Much needed with our drinking.

Bravos Mexican Restaurant | Sugar Land, Texas | Strawberry Margaritas

Strawberry Margarita. There is too much alcohol in that shizz. After this, I know I do not like margaritas. Beer for me, please.

After much talking and sucking those babies down, I drove her home and headed home.

After reading Rachael’s post about Recommitting, I hopped on the treadmill. I obviously did not do a 6-mile tempo run like she did (I haven’t even reached that point yet!) but I did do a 25-minute run and a 25-minute butt and thigh exercise.

I feel better already but it’s going to be hard to go back to how I did three weeks ago. I should have not quitted for so long! Ah, you’re stupid, Melissa. But I did better than I thought. I even up the tempo a little more than I usually did.

Thanks, Rachael, for that post. You saved me.

Mellie Dee | Blueberry Smoothie

Now I’m sucking down a blueberry smoothie with too much milk. I ran out of yogurt so it’s mostly milk and ice. Still delicious.

Tomorrow is going to be another Food-venture!! Mum and I will be attending lunch at one of the Houston Restaurant Week locations. Then I can cross it off my Bucket List!

Night!

Chuy’s | Houston, Texas

June 25, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I got home super early and was able to make myself lunch.

Lunch: Eggs, Bagel Thin, Spinach

Sunny side up eggs on a bed of spinach, bagel thin with Nutella knockoff spread, a handful of jalapeno chips. So not healthy but so, so good.

Sweet Potato and Yogurt

Sweet potato with yogurt. Yum! So much good food in my tummy.

Chuy's | Houston, Texas

When 7:30pm rolled around I got ready for Ed’s birthday. It was just me and the boys (Ed, Ryan, Daniel). All that was missing was John. We had dinner plans and Ryan had ended up at the wrong Chuy’s and so we waited and waited for him to arrive.

Chuy's | Houston, Texas | Chips and Salsa

Chips and Salsa | free

Chuy's | Houston, Texas | Soft Tacos

Soft Tacos [two tacos with lettuce, cheese, pico, and your choice of ground sirloin, grilled chicken, or carne guisada. (Also available with guacamole instead of meat for a vegetarian option). Tacos served with rice and refried or charro beans] | $8.47

I would love to come here again and am happy that they have opened one in Katy!

Baker St. | Ryan, Daniel, Ed

Ryan, Daniel, Ed

We went to Sherlock’s Baker Street Pub for some drinks. Since Ryan was having a bad day, I bought him a drink called Sex on Baker Street. He liked it a lot but I was too full from the greasy food to have any drinks.

You Don't Always Get What You Wish For But What You Work For

We bid farewell after a few hours and I debated if I should work out or not. I kept telling myself it was the last one of the week and I shouldn’t give up. So, I went and conquered C25K: Week 6 – Run 3.

Luckily my arch didn’t hurt so that’s good. I seriously love longer runs than intervals. When can I stop doing intervals?! 🙁 Probably never.

I came home and almost passed out on the floor. That’s how tired I was.

The boys went to a laser tag lock-in while I chose running. I must be going crazy.

Head over to Fit Chick Britt. She’s asking for pictures of you sporting a makeup-free look for her future post!!

Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill | San Antonio, Texas

Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill | San Antonio, Texas

On the weekend of the 17th of April, Brudda and Tammy came down along with Sissy. Too bad Sissy left before brunch at Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill.

Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill | San Antonio, Texas | Tejas Trio

Tejas Trio [fresh chips, hand-hacked guacamole, chile con queso with chorizo and salsa picante] | $9.75

An appetizer to curb our appetite until our main dishes came out. The guacamole was my favorite but they gave so little of it. I very much wished we got the type where they make it at your table because I would have gotten so much more. Mmm …

Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill | San Antonio, Texas | Cornbread

Cornbread | free

You get a choice of freshly baked muffins or cornbread. I’ve never been a fan of cornbread but they both did and I am happy we did. Surprisingly the best cornbread I’ve ever had to the point where I would definitely come back just for this.

Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill | San Antonio, Texas | Huevos Rancheros

Huevos Rancheros [eggs cooked over easy, with Jack cheese, salsa Picante and sliced avocado, served with pureed black beans, flour tortillas and home-fried potatoes] | $8.95

The meal itself was very delicious. The only thing I was unhappy about was how they put tortilla chips at the bottom of my dish. It was super soggy and chewy. The potatoes were really delicious though.

It’s a pretty simple menu but I’ll definitely come back to try all the others.

Torchy’s Tacos | Austin, Texas

February 24, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Torchy's Taco | Austin, Texas

For breakfast on February 4th, Tammy, Jenny, and I went to Torchy’s Tacos. I’ve heard so much about this place from Sissy but never had a chance to go.

Torchy's Taco | Austin, Texas | Menu

Their menu is pretty straightforward. Everything’s written on a chalkboard. I love it!

Torchy's Taco | Austin, Texas | Jalapeno Sausage Egg and Cheese

Jalapeno Sausage Egg and Cheese on a Flour Tortilla | $2

Torchy's Taco | Austin, Texas | The Democrat

The Democrat [shredded beef barbacoa topped with fresh avocado, queso fresco, cilantro, onions, & a wedge of lime] | $3.75

They stuff these babies so it’s definitely worth the money. I got my Democrat taco on a corn tortilla which we found out they’ll give you two of. If you order flour, you’ll only get one. Because of this, I was able to make two tacos.

I really want to go here again and again. Thank goodness they have so many locations!

Alamo Cafe | San Antonio, Texas

January 9, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I came back to college a day early to pick Jenny up from the airport. Travis and AV decided to accompany me so that we could all grab a bite to eat at Alamo Cafe after.

Alamo Cafe | San Antonio, Texas | Fajita Dinner

Fajita Dinner [2 soft tacos, choice of beef, chicken, or mixed, rice, beans, guacamole, and pico de gallo] | ~$10

They gave us free chips and tortillas. The tortillas are homemade, fluffy and soft, and oh so wonderful in my mouth! They give you butter to slather on it but I ate mine plain because it was that good.

For the fajita dinner, I ordered one beef and one chicken. The beef was like any other beef but the chicken, oh the chicken! It was juicy and tender. If I ever come here again I’ll nix the beef and get two chicken fajitas.

It’s a good place to try if you want some great tex-mex.
