2018 Houston Restaurant Week | The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas

August 3, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

James Coney Island | Katy, Texas | Texas Chili Dog

Scruffy came over with Luna after I got off work. We decided to hit up our first Houston Restaurant Week place tonight but since our reservation was not until eight pm we decided on a light snack at James Coney Island. This is the first time that I’ve been here and I was surprisingly not as bad as I thought it be.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas

Afterwords we chilled at home for a bit before heading to The Melting Pot.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Fat Tire & Wine Flight

He started off with a flat tire while I went for a wine flight. The one flying consisted of four different wines to pair with our four courses. For the cheese, a Meiomi, Pinot Noir, California. For the salad, a Starborough, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand. For the entree, a Portillo, Malbec, Valle de Uco, Argentina. For the chocolate, a Luccio, Moscato d’ Asti, Italy.

My favourite wine was the salad wine while Scruffy enjoyed the entree one. Overall it was a great experience because I’ve never had a different one pair for every course before.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Loaded Baked Potato Cheddar

Her first entrée was the loaded baked potato cheddar cheese fondue which comes with cheddar cheese blend potatoes, garlic and wine seasoning, bacon, green goddess, and scallions. It came with bread, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers and apples.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Scruffy Cheese Pull

Look at that cheese pull!

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | The Melting Pot House & Caesar

Our second course was a type of salad. I went with the melting pot house which came with romaine iceberg mix, cheddar, eggs, tomatoes, croutons, with a white balsamic dressing. Scruffy opted for the Caesar salad. Both, we felt was just a filler but nice to have since there wasn’t much vegetable overall.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | The Classic Entree

We were starting to get full but we pushed through to the third course. We decided on the mojo broth, a Caribbean seasoned bouillon with distinctive garlic and citrus flair which was super limey in our opinion when the broccoli and mushrooms came out. We both got the classic entrée which came with certified Angus beef sirloin, shrimp, Memphis style dry rub pork, herb crusted chicken breast, and teriyaki marinated sirloin. The told us how long to cook everything and it all tasted fantastic.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Flaming Turtle Chocolate Fondue

We were stuffed to the brim and didn’t actually finish every single meal that we had on our dish. But we knew that we had to try the flaming turtle chocolate fondue which is a combination of milk chocolate, caramel and candied pecans flambeed table side. The strawberries and chocolate covered  marshmallows were my favorite.

[2018] 215/365: Date Night with My Mustache Boo

I’m glad we finally had a romantic night out and we both got to experience a new way of eating together. Scruffy said he’d come back for the cheese course whereas, I am okay never coming back. It was delicious but definitely not worth the money.

Now it’s time to snuggle up for some Shameless. Night everyone.

Shish Kabob Cafe | Katy, Texas

2018 | 201/365 | Shish Kabob Cafe

[2018] 201/365: Lunchtime, Metime

I got off work early today due to all the extra hours I accumulated. It was pretty nice but not having anything planned was kind of hard on me. Instead, I went to sign some documents at the place my car is at now and then headed to lunch. I wasn’t feeling anything so ended up at Shish Kabob Cafe. It was delicious! I didn’t feel the hummus was worth four bucks with the amount I got. It looks like a lot but the bowl plays tricks on your eyes. The tahdig was crispy, yes, but felt more like a chip than what I’m used to. The koobideh was very delicious though. Super juicy and flavourful. Would I come back? Yes, because the meat was that great.

I’m excited about my Liliana adventures. It’s going to be short but I know we’ll make the best of it!

Rizzo and Kong

Willie's | Wings, Burger and Fish Tacos

Scruffy and I went to Willie’s before he had to leave to meet up with his cousin somewhere. He got a burger and was surprised how delicious it was that he doesn’t mind coming back here again. I asked for the Baja shrimp tacos but they sent over catfish tacos. Ugh! She did say she would bring me the shrimp tacos and I could continue eating the catfish. I thought they would charge me for it so I declined. It wasn’t until Scruffy told me they were going to give it to me for free after the server left. Whoops. Oh well! At least the server didn’t have to pay for it right? My good deed for the day. I just wanted to make sure I didn’t get charged for shrimp since it’s more expensive than the fish. We also got the wings and it was flavourful outside but not at all inside. Fail. I’ll come back to try the shrimp or burgers though.

2018 | 189/365 | Rizzo and Kong

[2018] 189/365: Rizzo and Kong

We stopped by the pet store so that Scruffy could pick something up for Luna and Bailey. Bailey is his cousin’s dog that’s staying for a while. I got Rizzo a Kong and he chowed down on it. He never really gets any treats so he was in paradise.

Asian Style Noodle Soup

I made delicious Asian style noodle soup. It’s a pish posh of cabbage, zucchini, mushrooms, and fish tofu. Nothing too fancy but definitely delicious enough to satisfy my hunger. My lunch for the next few days will be this but with macaroni pasta and I’m excited.

Tiger Noodle House | Katy, Texas | Xiao Long Bao Fail

Tiger Noodle House | Katy, Texas | Xiao Long Bao and Shrimp Eggroll

Scruffy came over today after work and we went to Tiger Noodle House for dinner. I’ve been here before but my whole family wasn’t a big fan. I decided to come since they have xiao long bao and I haven’t had a good one since I was in Taiwan at Ding Tai Fung. Let’s just say, this does not even compare. No soup in the dumplings, the folds for that nice chew wasn’t there either. The ginger was sliced too thick and the black vinegar tasted off. The shrimp egg rolls aren’t the best either. Overall, I’m still disappointed at this place and have decided I won’t be back until they get their act together. Everyone who reviewed and loved this place hasn’t had a real xiao long bao, you’re in for a surprise when you do one day because this wasn’t it!

2018 | 187/365 | Bulgogi Fries

[2018] 187/365: Bulgogi Fries

We went to grab some bulgogi fries just to satisfy my fried potato hunger. It hit the spot. We went home and spent time with Mum where we played three rounds of Sequence (I won!) and Scruffy and I played LIFE! (I won, too!).

Now he’s playing his golf app game while I blog but I’m heading off and we’re going to spend time watching telly until we fall asleep.

EID Mubarak!!

June 15, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

End of Ramadan | Eid Mubarak

Today marks the end of Ramadan or as they would say, EID Mubarak! We celebrated by going to Camilla’s house for some light snacks. Jamie made a tomato sauce with egg type thing that you dip with bread. The other crazy looking thing is like a funnel cake but much oilier. They love their carbs! haha

Jarro Cafe Tacos

We then went to the Jarro Cafe. It’s been forever and we were bummed when we found out they were all out of pastor. We ended up getting three tacos total, one for each of us and sharing the last one. Yum. I wish they were closer to my house!

2018 | 166/365 | Cravin' Cajun Date with Scruffy

[2018] 166/365:

We went back to my place, lazed around and headed to 99 Ranch Market before eating dinner at Cravin’ Cajun. I was shocked when Scruffy said he craved it so I agreed to it without hesitation. We ended up order four pounds of crawfish, one pound of shrimp, two corns, and A LOT of potatoes.

It’s been a great day. I really do miss having every other Friday off. It really puts into perspective how much I actually got done not having to work those two Fridays a month. Now to relax for the rest of the weekend.
