Supervisor Intern Lunch at Gyu Kaku

November 5, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 | 309/365 | Gyu Kaku Supervisor Intern Lunch

[2018] 309/365: Supervisor Intern Lunch

Today we had our first (out of four) Supervisor Intern Lunch. We let them pick a place and they chose Gyu Kaku. One of my favourite places! I like this (Japanese BBQ) more than Korean BBQ and that’s mostly because they have cow tongue. That’s my favourite one to order and I gladly took two plates of them. Yum!

It was nice to get out of the office and just have a bit of fun with them. And it’s amazing to see them open up.

Kit Kats from Japan

To go with the Japanese theme … Tim went to Korea this past week and they had a layover in Japan. He was able to snag these for our family. I’ve had the wasabi before but man, the strawberry cheesecake definitely takes the cake! Hehehe get it?

Oba Japanese Cuisine | Sugar Land, Texas

[2018] 257/365: Oba Japanese Cuisine

Scruffy treated Jamie and I to dinner at Oba Japanese Cuisine. They have happy hour all day and was instructed to only order off that list. There were a lot of choices and soon enough we were full and happy.

They don’t have a license to sell alcohol yet so Scruffy ran next door for some sake.

Their salmon was killer though it’s nothing compared to Seattle. Regardless, it’s worth coming back soon.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week at Tobiuo Sushi & Bar

2018 | Houston Restaurant Week | Tobiuo Sushi & Bar | Katy, Texas

Another Houston Restaurant Week for the books this year! Was it worth the $35 for four courses? Probably not.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Tobiuo Sushi & Bar | Katy, Texas | Mallory & JJ

Mallory and JJ came along for the ride with me and Scruffy. I haven’t seen these two for a long while so it was long overdue. This boy has grown up so fast!

2018 | Houston Restaurant Week | Tobiuo Sushi & Bar | Katy, Texas | Sake Bombs

We ordered two rounds of sake bombs, traditional between Mallory and I. I haven’t drank that much in such a long time I got tipsy.

2018 | Houston Restaurant Week | Tobiuo Sushi & Bar | Katy, Texas | First Course

Our first course was pretty bleugh overall. I believe the coconut shrimp was the best out of everything flavourwise.

2018 | Houston Restaurant Week | Tobiuo Sushi & Bar | Katy, Texas | Second Course

Our second course blew me away! I was surprised to find that I had nine pieces of sashimi instead of six as stated on the menu. Everything was pretty good overall for this course.

2018 | Houston Restaurant Week | Tobiuo Sushi & Bar | Katy, Texas | Third Course

Scruffy and I got the same for our third course. The ribeye was very flavourful and tender. Probably one of the best I’ve had in a while. Mallory’s salmon was pretty good too. I especially loved the crispy skin.

2018 | Houston Restaurant Week | Tobiuo Sushi & Bar | Katy, Texas | Fourth Course

Four our fourth and final course, we were deeply disappointed. The waiter said the watermelon dessert was his favourite but it was horrible. Think of a watermelon soaked in lemon-citris juice. The summer shaved ice was a big giant fail. JJ had fun eating the fruit out of it though. The winner was the Lychee Ice Cream with Macarons.

2018 | 241/365 | Houston Restaurant Week | Tobiuo Sushi & Bar | Katy, Texas | Favourite People

[2018] 241/365: Dinner with Some Favourites

It’s usually just Mallory, JJ and I at dinner or over at her house so I was very estatic that Scruffy was around to join us. With him and Mallory chatting up a storm I was able to chopstick feed JJ and focus on him. He is adorable and makes me wish my niece was closer to us so I could do the same with her.

After dinner we all stopped by Sephora before heading home. I’m so pooped. I cannot wait to jump into bed. Good night!

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

August 18, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Square Root Poke | Katy, Texas | Lotus Root Chip

Square Root Poke with Scruffy as our first meal of the day. We shared a large and had two small bowls of miso to go with it. This is a very filling and somewhat healthy choice. I really want to try their alternative carb choices. One day! Maybe when we are both starving enough to order our own.

We walked around Target, Office Max, and Home Goods before heading home. Scruffy played video games while I napped and I even watched To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. I’ve read the book so I was excited to see it on screen.

2018 | 230/365 | Korean BBQ with Scruffy and June

[2018] 230/365: Korean BBQ Goodness

Since the parents are away, Scruffy, June and I went and feasted. We bought meat and veggies for our own Korean BBQ and it was delicious. Without my parents there we already bought less and still couldn’t finish.

World Market Date

Square Root Poke | Katy, Texas

Scruffy and I woke up in search of delicious raw goodness and landed in Square Root Poke. It’s in the new Asian area in Katy!

We shared a small poke bowl and the place has a pot of miso soup, complimentary! We drank two mini bowls worth. I’m not a super big lover of miso but this one was actually pretty tasty.

The poke bowl didn’t have enough sauce. They did say we could go back up and ask for more but there were customers and we weren’t about to stand and wait I’m line.

Gong Cha | Katy, Texas

We drove slow around the area to see what new stores were going to pop up and found Gong Cha. We shared a Taro Milk Tea with tapioca. We should have said less sugar because we were in a sugar rush after.

2018 | 217/365 | Whole Foods Date

[2018] 217/365: Whole Foods Date

We walked around World Market and Whole Foods before grabbing a chicken noodle soup and a slice of pepperoni pizza from the self-serve bar. We then pay for everything and sat down at the bar they had in the middle of the store and he ordered a beer, I got a rose and we ate our foods.

I’ve always wanted to do a Whole Foods date so I was glad we crossed it off the list. Can we have more my love?

Korean BBQ Dinner

We went back to my house where we watched Shamless and fell asleep. We woke up in time for Korean BBQ with the family before he called it a night. This boy loves Bulgogi and I love that he eats so much because he’s a small eater.

Tomorrow, it’s back to reality. Sigh … I need a vacation.
