2021 | Week 64 of Quarantine

June 6, 2021 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2021 | Week 64 of Quarantine | Ethan & Mellie Dee Matching Rockets Shirts

Memorial Monday equaled Ethan and I accidentally both wearing Rockets shirts. We took some impromptu selfies together while he chowed down on some sauceless/brothless macaroni.

2021 | Week 64 of Quarantine | 8th Wonder | Houston, Texas | Friends Reunion | Sissy, BIL, June, Sarah, Jacky, Timothy

June and I picked up Timothy and headed over to Sissy and BIL’s house where we then walked to 8th Wonder and met up with Sarah and Jacky. We drank some beers, picked up Rodeo Goat and ate that at the brewery as well before heading back to Sissy and BIL’s house to watch the Friends Reunion.

It was nice getting to do it with them and remember all the memories with it.

2021 | Week 64 of Quarantine | Ethan, Mellie Dee, Rizzo

The rest of the week was filled with Ethan screams and Rizzo cuddles. Ethan left with Dad Friday morning and the house has been super quiet. Two weeks until I get to see him again. Which means another round of stranger danger until he feels safe with me again. Sigh.

2021 | Week 64 of Quarantine | Sushihana Door Dash | Mellie Dee & Ethan | Dad's Birthday

We celebrated Dad’s birthday on Thursday, the actual day before they left. Ordered him Sushihana and blew out the candles of cheesecake and mousse cake. Ethan didn’t like his dinner but was all for cheesecake. Silly.

2021 | Week 64 of Quarantine | Whiskey Cake | Katy, Texas | Mallory, Beth

Later that night, I met up with Mallory and Beth along with their friend Michelle at Whiskey Cake. I had a whiskey flight which was much better than I thought. Their devil eggs and chef’s board was a hit. I would say the brussels and grits were subpar though. Great conversations and great company.

2021 | Week 64 of Quarantine | Cruella, Jacob, Snow Cones

Friday, after work, I went over to Mallory’s to do my laundry since our washer broke and will take a while for a new one to arrive. We tried to start Cruella while Jacob high fived us. We didn’t get far but I did chow down on the free salad that she gave me since I hadn’t eaten all day. We went and got Snow Cones with Beth before heading over to pick up JJ from her mum’s. I got to see her parents and her grandparents, aunt, and cousin. It’s been a long time so it was great to see their faces and catch up.

2021 | Week 64 of Quarantine | Farmers Market & Tahicoon | Katy, Texas

Saturday, Mum, June, and I went to the Katy’s Farmers Market. Not a lot of vendors but it was still fun to check stuff out. We then had lunch at Thaicoon. Highly recommend. Great big portions and delicious.

We went to Costco after and I finally got my Melona Ice Cream that I’ve been craving after trying it at Gordon’s and Patsy’s. YUM!

We watched Cruella and I highly recommend it. So much twist and turns. Great acting from everyone. It’s been a while since something surprised me.

2021 | Week 64 of Quarantine | Frankenstein | Cooking Date Chicken Spaghetti and Roasted Asparagus

Today, I drove over to Frankenstein’s and we looked at cookbooks he had, deciding on Chicken Spaghetti. We went to HEB to pick up the ingredients then went back and made it. He says it’s kind of like what he grew up eating, plus or minus a few ingredients. I’ve been craving pasta so it hit the spot. And for anyone that knows me, knows I need to have a little more greens so he agreed and roasted me asparagus. We watched an episode of Money Explained (Student Loans) and it resonated a bit so we were able to talk about it. Then he showed me and explained to me about South Padre’s SpaceX which was pretty interesting.

I’m ready for my four day work week.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Disney On Ice: Mickey’s Search Party

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Samsung Galaxy S21

I finally splurged and got myself a new phone! It’s the cheapest S21 out there but I’m loving the smallness already. Nothing new but the selfie camera is dang clear. Technology just keeps getting better and better!

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Emmy - Hatched Chick

Took a couple of days for Emmy’s egg to hatch! I would like a refund. The chick looks NOTHING like the picture. She named it after herself. So silly.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Yin Yueng, Flaming Cheetos Mac & Cheese, Snowcrabs Seafood, Veggie Plate

Some goodies I’ve had this week that are worth mentioning.

My yin yuern — it’s hard to find this exact brand so I’ve been having BIG cups worth. I’ve also been craving a lot of raw vegetables.

Flaming hot cheetos mac & cheese is actually not so bad. But the red makes me a little worrisome.

Snow crabs, octopus, and surf clams dipped in Yummy Seafood’s seafood boil sauce. This has been the cheapest way of getting my seafood boils in. Buy the sauce and prep the seafood by myself..

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Emmy, Ethan, Mellie Dee

I’ve taken Emmy out a few times to walk Rizzo but a few times, the weather was not cooperative. We sat outside watching the rain in the backyard though.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Emmy | Starbucks, Hobby Lobby, Canes, Rizzo

I took Thursday off so I took Emmy with me to run errands. We dropped off a package, got Starbucks (Dragon Drink makes the coconut milk SO pink!), Hobby Lobby to buy shirts, and Cane’s. She had a LOT of fun and slept a great bunch afterward. When I got home from going out, we walked Rizzo.

I was able to sneak off to meet up with Frankenstein during her nap at Menchie’s. I haven’t had frozen yogurt in a long time so I was excited! We sat and talked for two and a half hours before I had to head home to help Emmy with Kumon and to walk Rizzo.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Mexican Candy and Jerky from Ricardo

Emmy and I had also stopped at my work parking lot to meet up with Patrick for a package from Ricardo. Jose was coming down to visit his family so Ricardo gave the package to him, who gave it to Patrick to give to me. I didn’t know how much was really in the box until I laid it all out. I am still hesitant to try the candies but I will report that this type of beef jerky is the best I’ve ever had. It’s crunch, hard and super thin. SO good.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Emmy | IHop

June and I were off on Friday so we helped Dad out housework before we left and hung out at Target for a bit. Then we went and had lunch at IHop. Their menu is now one time use. The menu is smaller and they even have potato pancakes. Those were bomb.

Emmy and I made our Disney t-shirts and I made one for June as well with a different design. I did accidentally put June’s design on mine so I had to run to Hobby Lobby Saturday morning to buy another shirt for myself so I can put on my Disney On Ice one as well. Now I have matching shirts with both June and Emmy.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Crown Seafood Restaurant with Frankenstein

I had lunch with Frankenstein at Crown Seafood. I over ordered (it’s a given) but I had been craving dim sum for a LONG time. We had a good two and a half hour conversation before I had to go.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Mani Pedi with Mallory and Beth

I went to Mallory’s, changed, then we met Beth at Capri’s for a mani pedi. I hung out at Mallory’s for a bit before leaving. It was nice to get away from the kids. Now I know how parents feel.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Emmy & Bruno | Harry's and Games with Sissy and BIL

This morning, when Emmy woke up, we got ready and headed over to Harry’s Restaurant to have breakfast with Sissy and BIL.

Everything we ordered was DELICIOUS. My favourite were their fries. I know that me saying that makes it sound like their food sucks but the seasoning they use on the fries was freaking amazing. I already want to go back. I love that they have a covered patio.

We went back to Sissy and BIL’s for games. They mostly played and I tried to relax and figure out tickets/parking for Disney On Ice. Emmy and I changed into our matching t-shirts and had a photoshoot in front of the fireplace. Bruno wanted in on the action.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Disney On Ice: Mickey's Search Party | Emmy, JJ, Mallory

We met Mallory and JJ at NRG stadium. We walked around and got our and went into our seats.

The kids loved the light up wands Mallory got off of Amazon for $5 each. Tips to everyone that’s going to go:

  • You can bring your own light up wands and glow sticks.
  • Since we had kids, we brought in snacks and drinks.
  • Only kids can dress up in costume. We thought that meant, adults couldn’t have mouse ears but that didn’t seem to be the case. Bring your ears!
  • They said it’d be cold but we didn’t wear our jackets. Emmy just had her thin jacket on. It was colder outside than inside but bring something just in case. You never know!
  • We got there an hour early before the show started. This helped us not have to stand in long lines.
2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Disney On Ice: Mickey's Search Party

They had so many characters there! I kept being amazed at how they’re able to skate with their costumes. Some were even up in the air spinning around. It’s all so crazy but all so cool.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Disney On Ice: Mickey's Search Party | Emmy, JJ, Mallory, Mellie Dee

We had taken group pictures with Ariel. Worth the money since we get a digital copy too. She had so much fun she passed out holding her wand on the way home.

2021 | Week 57 of Quarantine | Emmy's Chore Chart

We ended the day with the chore chart and for doing so well she got a surprise. She can’t play with it until tomorrow since it’s bed time but she’s excited.

It’s been a VERY eventful week. I am SO pooped and excited to go to bed soon. Hope the little girl feels the same!

Twistee Treat |Cypress, Texas

Pho and Dessert Delivered Working at Home

Due to the water burst in East Houston we all got to work from home today. June didn’t have to work so she made plans with my parents for lunch and kindly brought something back for me!

Mellie Dee and Jacob Chilling

After work I ran some errands and headed over to Mallory’s. I had John’s early birthday present I wanted to give before I forgot but to also destress from such a shitty week at work. Jacob was nice enough to take a selfie with me. His eyes are so pretty. I love when he stares at me.

Habachi Dinner | Mallory

We ordered habachi dinners. Vegetarian for me, steak for Mallory and a whole bunch of fried rice for John. I always forget habachi has amazing fried rice! And they have one sauce that is to die for. Fits perfectly mixed with the rice.

Twistee Treat | Cypress, Texas | Mallory

Mallory, Jacob and I went for a sweet treat after dinner at Twistee Treat. Strawberry ice cream with a chocolate sprinkle waffle cone for me. A vanilla ice cream dipped in Cherry coating for Mallory. It is so dang simple yet so dang delicious. Their strawberry flavour doesn’t taste fake at all! This might be my new favourite ice cream place but it’s a little far.

When we got back I went with John and JJ to the clubhouse to battle Pokemons. They’re obsessed with the game and they’ve found others! So crazy. We won and I caught a Mewtwo so that’s cool.

Mala Szechuan and Bing Sui | Katy, Texas

January 31, 2020 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

JJ & Emmy on the Trampoline

JJ and Emmy finally got to play together again! They got to jump on trampolines and make pretend foods and ride in the mini car. They even got to enjoy some Tiff’s I brought over. Sadly I left work an hour early and ended up working practically the entire time j was over. Luckily, SIL was able to join and meet Mallory so whenever Emmy needed something I could continue working.

Mala Szechuan | Katy, Texas | Brudda, SIL, Jenny, Le, Jennifer, Jimmy

Since the Dallas folks, Brudda, SIL, Jenny, and Le were in town, they made plans to meet up with Jennifer and Jimmy and I got asked to tag along. I’m always down for food so I agreed. Ethan came along as well. We went to Mala Szechuan for dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine and a great big number of dishes. Everythimg is always so delicious here. My favourite is the crispy chicken!

Bing Sui | Katy, Texas | Brudda, SIL, Jenny, Le, Jennifer, Jimmy

We decided to get dessert at Bing Sui. Somi Somi is still my favourite ice cream and takiyaki combo. Bing Sui gave out some stale takiyakis and the ice cream wasn’t as memorable as Somi Somi. They did like their shaved ice dessert though.

After we were all stuffed we all headed to Jennifer’s new practice. Her opening is tomorrow and it was nice to see it before the renovations. We were there for a while getting some free consultation for our eyes and joking about other things.

I’m so pooped now and ready to unwind and go to sleep. Night, world.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Denver, Colorado | Day 2

November 2, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Tupelo Honey | Denver, Colorado

In the morning we forgo the breakfast plans and picked a Tupelo Honey closer to our hotel. Everything was perfect here. From their brussel sprouts to the shashuka and grits and shrimp and grits. I wouldn’t mind having one of these places back in Houston.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Denver Botanic Gardens | Denver, Colorado | Plants

Since the walk was kind of far we took and Uber to the botanical gardens. There’s not much to see since it is winter but they did have a couple of exhibits that were indoor.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Denver Botanic Gardens | Denver, Colorado | Dio de Las Muertos

They were also celebrating Dio de Las Muertos. They had so many things painted and lots of children activities in tents such as face painting.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Denver Botanic Gardens | Denver, Colorado | Frozen Pond

We skipped all of that and walked around and found a frozen pond. It still surprises me that this happens every year for the people that live here.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Denver Botanic Gardens | Denver, Colorado | Japanese Garden Snowy

My favourite part of the whole garden was the Japanese Garden. Everything was snowy here so it was beautiful.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Little Owl Coffee | Denver, Colorado

After the gardens Sissy wanted coffee so we took an Uber to Little Owl Coffee. It was a short distance to our hotel but the only thing I didn’t like was their lack of pastries. We saw pictures online but nothing in person so we opted to just lattes and mochas.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Walking on Snow | Denver, Colorado

We chugged our drinks and trekked on. I love being able to step in snow with my boots. I love the sound and the way it feels. No more after today.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Cooper + Dash Gifts and Gallery | Denver, Colorado

We made a couple stops to find souvenirs and ended up at Dash + Cooper. I love that there is a giant unicorn at the doorway. Emmy would have loved it!

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Milkbox Ice Creamery | Denver, Colorado

As we were walking back to our hotel, we stopped by Union Station to Milkbox for some ice cream. I got a peanut butter type while she got a vegan chocolate type. Both delicious and perfect treat for the cold weather.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Union Station at Night | Denver, Colorado

We showered and lazied about the hotel until close to our dinner reservations. As we walked to the restaurant we got to see Union Station lighted up at night. It was gorgeous.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Panzano | Denver, Colorado

We finally made it to Panzano for dinner. I’ve been looking forward to their brussel sprouts. If you haven’t noticed, that’s usually one of the things I have to order if it’s on the menu. The way this was prepped reminds me of the place I went to in San Antonio since they both use apples and pistachios with their dish. My lamb was also on point and being able to suck out the bone marrow was a huge plus for me.

2019 Mother Daughters Trip | Panzano | Denver, Colorado | Mellie Dee

We walked to another shop for a souvenir before calling it a night. We packed as much as we could and are now in bed. Night, world!
