2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Part II

April 14, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Crown Seafood Restaurant | Houston, Texas

This morning, we went to the cemetery to do some Buddhist/Daoism thing for Grandma. We aren’t religious but we do it for her when she asks. Afterwards, we went to lunch at Crown Seafood Restaurant.

Timothy, Peggy and June ordered way too much food. This scene brings me back to Hong Kong with the family when Dad ordered a table full of food. It was fun trying new things though.

We stopped by Eck Bakery on the way home.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Eck Bakery | Houston, Texas | Egg Tarts

They have the best egg tarts in Houston. Houston because everything in Hong Kong tastes better of course! This would have been my picture of the day but there’s something better down below!

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Fresh, Live Lobsters

Wilson went to the market and bought live, fresh lobster to cook for the ENTIRE family.

He even took time out to crack the shells beforehand for easy eating.

This is the end result. The picture doesn’t do it justice. It was steaming and fogging up my lens but my dang, was it good.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Fresh, Live Razor Clams

The best thing was seeing razor clams in a stainless steel bowl. I was so surprised because I didn’t know these were sold here. I’ve only had it once by June’s sister back in Hong Kong in 2012.

The end product was DANG good. This was the highlight of the day. Razor clams and getting to spend time with my cousin. He taught me a lot of new skills. There was a part where I got teary-eyed because I wished we saw each other more.

We stopped by Katie’s house a bit for Wilson and Mei Mei to see before we headed home. Tomorrow is a new day and a long drive ahead so, peace out world!

Drinks and Board Games

March 31, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Moon Tower Inn | Houston, Texas

Scruffy and I started out the day heading over to Sissy and BILs. We had plans with the two of them and Timothy. Drinks and board games. We started off at Moon Tower Inn.

Moon Tower Inn | Houston, Texas | Cheech Big Body Burgers

Cheech Big Body Burgers [chevre, poblano, thick bacon, and sambal mayo] | $9.99

Scruffy and BIL both got this burger. I wasn’t too big of a fan of it since the poblanos gave it a weird flavour.

Moon Tower Inn | Houston, Texas | Chong Big Body Burgers

Chong Big Body Burgers [sunnyside egg, thick bacon, cheddar, creole mustard and housemade bread and butter picked japs] | $9.99

I did like my burger more since the yolk made it much juicier and the pickled jalapenos made it a word of difference.

Sigma Brewing Company | Houston, Texas

After that, we headed over to Sigma Brewing Company.

Sigma Brewing Company | Houston, Texas | Flights

Scruffy and BIL both got flights but the rest of us weren’t too down for any more beers. They both concluded that the beers were not great and that they won’t be coming back.

We went back to Sissy and BIL’s house where we played more board games before leaving for Gordon’s Birthday dinner.

[2018] 090/365:

We had the dinner at Crown Seafood Restaurant where the tables were filled with too much food. After much talking and hanging out we all went back to our own homes.

Scruffy went back to his own house so I get Luna all to myself. 😀

2nd Anniversary Presents

March 30, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Jarro Truck | Tacos

Jarro Cafe lunch with the love after he dropped Luna off at my house. We’ve missed this truck so much now that we both don’t work by. Best tacos in town if you haven’t been!

2018 | 089/365 | Scruffy's 2nd Anniversary Present

[2018] 089/365: 2nd Anniversary

Scruffy and I decided to open our two year anniversary presents. I love how the wrapping paper kind in away goes with Panda. Thoughtful. <3

Scruffy's 2nd Anniversary Present Contents

I’m excited for my scratch offs. He taped a penny he found to the card. He found it after he bought the scratch offs so he believes it’s the winning penny.

2nd Anniversary Present The Five Senses

I decided to go the five senses route.

2nd Anniversary Present The Five Senses Contents

And it was a hit! He didn’t even know Rebelution’s newest cd was on pre-sale so he was super surprised.

Crawfish Boil

We went to Yassin’s for a crawfish boil. They know how to host a boil. Over 160 pounds for about 25 people … and that’s without counting the corn, potatoes, Brussels sprouts, sausage, and onions.

Crawfish Boil | Bella

They also had the cutest lab named Bella. I wanted to trade her for Luna but no one wanted to take her. Haha I’m joking though cuz I can never trade Luna.

Pot of Crawfish

Look how big their pot was!!

Garlic Butter Concoction for Crawfish Boil

His uncle made his own garlic butter concoction that was a hot. A bit on the salty side for me but not bad!

We stayed out late and partied with his crazy friends before heading back home to chill with my parents for a bit.

I’m ready to for bed. Good night y’all!

An 8-Hour Interview

March 29, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Leftover Kim Son's Vegan Pho

I started off the day eating my leftovers for breakfast before leaving for my interview at 9 am. This was the longest, brain powered interview I’ve ever had. We ended at 4:45 pm! How crazy is that?! Have you ever heard of an 8 hour interview, because that was the first for me!

2018 | 088/365 | Azuma Sushi & Robata Bar | Houston, Texas | Chicken Katsu Bento Box

[2018] 088/365: Interview Lunch

They did give me a swag bag in the beginning for showing up, validated my $40 parking, and took me out for lunch at Azuma. For being downtown and the price, I would have hoped for a better chicken katsu. It was a bit on the dry side but with the amount they gave, I had enough for another meal so I cannot complain much.

After all of that, even if I didn’t get the job, it was nice to have met so many smart people. It’s been a while since I’ve had conversations for eight hours straight but now, I have a headache so time to relax and forget about the interview! Peace out, world!

Beating the Traffic

March 28, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Kim's Teahouse | Katy, Texas

This morning Joanna, Jasmine, and Katie came over to play with Rocky and Rizzo. After they left, I decided to head to Kim’s Tea house for lunch and I brought along my laptop to work on some coding exercises while chowing down.

2018 | 087/365 | Kim Son | Houston, Texas

[2018] 087/365: Pho Goodness

I’m currently at Sissy and BIL’s, spending the night since I have things to do in the morning and it feels good not having to sit in traffic.

It took us a good hour to figure out where we were going to order food from then another hour for it to be delivered so at the end it was the best pho I had in forever. Obviously, everyone knows that there are better places but we make do.

Sleepy bed time. Night, y’all!
