Wok & Roll | Houston, Texas

May 8, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I received my parking badge yesterday and parked there this morning. It resulted in me getting lost when exiting the building but I still made it on time. I filled up my Thermos cup with water and noticed all the fresh fruits they had sitting out. I also realized that they had Chobani and Yoplait yoghurt, sodas, water bottles, espresso/latte maker, coffee/tea maker, as well as instant chicken noodle or instant veggie soup mix for grabs. All great for when you’re in that slump and need a pick me up.

When lunchtime hit, I was super tired and happy to get away from the desk to fuel back up. I went back into the tunnels and ended up with a bad choice: Wok & Roll. I need to start hitting up non-Asian places and get out of my comfort zone.

[2018] 218/365: Greasy Asian Food

A bad choice because it was greasy. It was good though but I’ve definitely had better. I did slurp up all the soup and saved a lot of the plate for tomorrow … possibly for breakfast.

Since I went in a bit earlier today, I was able to leave a bit early as well. I was able to find my car quite simply this time around and with the time I left it worked SO much better with less traffic. Now it’s showering and getting ready for bed, cuddling with Rizzo and watching TVB’s Apple-Colada.

First Day on the Job

May 7, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

2018 | 127/365 | First Day of Work Look

[2018] 127/365: First Day Look

Today marks the first day of my new job. I woke up a bit groggy since I didn’t fall asleep until after midnight, thanks to not having a consistent schedule since unemployment. I soon kicked into a full go-go-go mode and got ready while Mum took Rizzo out to potty for me. Rizzo was sitting on the stairs waiting for me to go back upstairs for more cuddles, poor baby.

After almost an hour of driving, I finally made it to the office, sitting in the office for over an hour since my new line manager was stuck in a meeting. She showed me around and introduced me to a few people and threw me to the dogs! Ha Just kidding. I pretty much shadowed someone throughout the day.

Downtown Tunnels

Time flew by VERY fast and I didn’t realize it was time for lunch. I ventured into the tunnels on my own in search of lunch around 12 PM. This is where a giant corporation differed where lunch is usually with the whole team but I made do and picked up my own lunch.

Baoz Dumplings | Houston, Texas

It took me a while to decide on Baoz Dumplings where you order and take it to go.

Chicken Dumplings Special with Lobster Ball and Hot and Sour Soup • Passion Fruit Green Tea

I found a nice little sitting area and had my lunch all by my lonesome, enjoying some Parks and Rec on the side. The dumplings aren’t the best things ever but were able to keep me a bit full. The lobster ball is ridiculous and not that great – rip off. Their tea was overly sweet and I had to throw it away after drinking a third of it. Just water for me, please! I don’t mind coming back for some dumplings and hot and sour soup though.

Rizzo Asleep with the Red Ball

After a little over an hour drive, I made it home. Little Rizzo was so ecstatic to see me. My little baby. Time to cuddle with him. Bye y’all!

Sephora Haul

May 1, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Woke up, ate my leftover pho, then headed out the door to accompany Dad to the doctor. Afterwards, we stopped by Sissy and BIL’s to pick up their pups, stopped by Mum’s work to pick up her car before heading home.

[2018] 121/365: Sephora Haul

I stopped by the bank then went to pick Mum up from work to go shopping. We were there to shop for my new job but somehow it ended up shopping for her. I was able to stop by Sephora buying mascara, setting spray, and perfume. The rest were free and samples. Win!

Mum and I then went to dinner at Perry’s Steakhouse. We ordered way too much food but we also decided to give some to Dad who was home watching all the pups.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Part VII

April 19, 2018 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

We were able to sleep in again today since it was supposed to be a pretty chill day. We went to Snooze an AM Eatery for breakfast. This place has been on my list for quite some time so I was happy to try it. Sadly, it didn’t meet my expectations.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Cockrell Butterfly Center | Houston, Texas

We went to pick up Sissy where Wilson and Mei Mei were able to check out their place. Soon after, we headed to The Houston Museum of Natural Science where the Cockrell Butterfly Center was located.

I was so happy to be able to put my photography skills to work. Look at my awesome shots! They came out better than I thought. This is without editing!! A few landed on us and we’d squeal with happiness.

We then headed to lunch at Liberty Kitchen.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Liberty Kitchen | Houston, Texas | Food

This was the best seafood place I’ve been to in a long while. Everything (except the chicken wings) were delicious! And they were nice enough to notice we were new and gave us two dishes for free, one which we knew costs at least $20+ bucks! That’s how you gain a loyal customer. Mum already wants to come back!

[2018] 109/365: We Heart Houston

We stopped by Jacky’s work where he has a downtown view. Since I used to work in the building next to his, it wasn’t anything special for me but was nice to still go up. June met us up there and we headed towards 8th Wonder Brewery where this I LOVE HOUSTON sign is located right outside. We took some quick shots before heading in.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | 8th Wonder Brewery | Houston, Texas | Flight of Beers

Since we were running a bit late, BIL and Scruffy were already there drinking. We ordered a few beers and even got a flight! How cute! We all had some good laughs and sweet conversations sitting in the wonderful weather.

For some reason, no one knew why the Beatles statues were there but were thankful we had another picture taking opportunity.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Xochi | Houston, Texas

After some drinking, we all headed to Xochi.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Xochi | Houston, Texas | Entrees and Desserts

We ordered so much food and desserts. I’m not truly full but was happy to be able to get a little bit of everything since we did a family type meal. Overall it was a great experience but I’m not sure if I’ll come back here since the prices are crazy.

Tomorrow is Wilson and Mei Mei’s last day here. I’m hoping I can go and hang out with them before their flight at night. Until then, it’s sleepy time for me and shower in the morning because I cannot function right now. Bye!

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Part VI

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Whataburger | Dallas, Texas

We were able to sleep in today, thank goodness. It’s been such a toll on us all with dehydration and lack of sleep. We stopped by Whataburger for breakfast of champions before heading back to Houston.

We stopped by Space Center since it’s been something they’ve wanted to do since day one.

Dad stayed in the car while Mum and I went in with them. Wilson and Mei Mei were like kids in a candy store, wide-eyed and running with excitement.

Sadly, they took too long looking at things that we missed the last tram to go and see real astronauts at work at NASA.

[2018] 108/365: Houston We Have A Problem

Luckily enough we were able to do the simulation. Mei Mei was supposed to go with Wilson but last second she got scared so I went. It was nice to get that chance to have with him, just the two of us.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Cravin' Cajun | Katy, Texas

We went through traffic and went to dinner at Cravin’ Cajun where June, Timothy, and Agnes joined us.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Cravin' Cajun | Katy, Texas | Grilled Oysters, Etouffee, Fried Rice, Shrimp, and Crawfish

We ordered a dozen grilled oysters, shrimp and crawfish etouffee, fried rice, 2 lbs shrimp and 10 lbs crawfish. They told us they could do spicy but hot was too much for them. We ordered another 4 lbs of crawfish in medium spice level. I was so surprised they liked it and excited to hear that they’ll come back to eat this in the future.

Tomorrow is our last day with them. I’m excited to relax but also said to have to say goodbye.
