2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas

Cosa Bella Salon & Day Spa | Houston, Texas

I got a haircut today. I’m still in search of a new place so I ended up at Cosa Bella. I feel like not too long ago (two months?) I had my hair cut and it has grown a lot so I snipped off over four inches of hair!

Cosa Bella Salon & Day Spa | Houston, Texas | Haircut

It’s a quaint little place and right when I walked in people were ready to work on me  I first got my brows done then I had a very nice lady cut my hair.

Cosa Bella Salon & Day Spa | Houston, Texas | Facial

I wanted to book a facial as well but the front desk lady wasn’t so nice and said there wasn’t any opened slots. Luckily the lady who did my brows had time and she gave me a very relaxing facial. As relaxing as it could be since I had a lot of blackheads and she needed to get into them. She asked me to come back and book a larger section of time and we could get more done but we’ll see. I might go somewhere else for a full facial one day.

I was there for two hours but they were both super nice and kept the conversation going making it a fast visit. They were very informative as well which is always great.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas

I had thirty minutes to kill before dinner for Houston Restaurant Week with Juhi and Erin at Kitchen 713. I drove over and relaxed in the car as I waited for time to pass.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas | Crispy Eggplant & Gumbo

Soon enough we were seated and were served our first course, Crispy Eggplant and Gumbo. They picked the same thing while I went the less traditional route. Everything tasted delicious.

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas | Black Vinegar Braised Oxtail, Shrimp & Grits, & Bourbon Glazed Pork Chops

We couldn’t put a dent into our second course and packed most of it away. Black Vinegar Braised Oxtail, Shrimp & Grits, and Bourbon Glazed Pork Chops. There was so many oxtail portions that I brought it home for my family!

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | Kitchen 713 | Houston, Texas | Espresso Creme Brulee & Sweet Potato Bread Pudding

We all saved room for dessert. They both ordered the Sweet Potato Bread Pudding and the Espresso Creme Brulee for me. We polished these off.

[2018] 226/365: Juhi & Erin

It was nice getting together with these ladies and being able to enjoy a joyouse evening together. We talked nonstop for two and a half hours and if it was the weekend I’m sure we could have talked for many more hours.

It sucks that they have their own stories together now without me but I guess that’s just life. I can only hope we have more of these moments together.

Now to get ready for bed and cuddle with Rizzo. Night, everyone!

2018 Houston Restaurant Week with Mum

August 12, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Black Bear Diner | Katy, Texas

Sissy and BIL came to visit and picked up Mum, June and I. We went to Pet Supplies Plus, Buy, Buy, Baby and Bed, Bath and Beyond before heading to lunch at Black Bear Diner. They have locations all over the states so it was about time we had one. They have super big portions. I ordered the big portion of chicken fried steak and it came with two giant biscuits. I also added an order of bacon.

I ended up eating half a chicken fried steak, the bacon, a bite of potatoes and the watermelon. I ate a third of a biscuit and gave the rest to June before packing everything up. I was stuffed.

We stopped by Kroger so that they could pick up their groceries before we went home. They left and I went a took a nap.

2018 | 224/365 | 2018 Houston Restaurant Week | McCormick's & Schmick's | Houston, Texas | Mum

[2018] 224/365: 6th Houston Restaurant Week With Mum

When I woke up I went to Mum and I’s annual Houston Restaurant Week. We picked McCormick’s and Schmick’s this time.

Bread and butter for the table. We each ate a slice and pushed it away to save room for the our three course meal.

First course, Crab and Corn Chowder and Buttermilk Fried Scallop. We both agreed the chowder was the best.

Second course, Steak and Lobster (an additional $10) and Pan Seared Sea Scallops. Though it was delicious, I thought the steak and lobster was more worth the money. I even added the Foie Gras Butter with it for that extra oomph. The scallops were great but I wasn’t a super huge fan of the risotto that came with it. I had to pack more than half my steak to go!

We ordered off the Houston Restaurant Week menu and got the Lobster Mashed Potatoes. Mum LOVED this mostly because of the lobster and sauce on top.

Third course, Upside Down Apple Pie and Florida Key Lime Pie. We both finished the Key Lime and wrapped the apple one for June. We were stuffed.

Mum even ordered a cappuccino which was bitter up the wazoo but I guess that’s how it is since it’s not Starbucks. Haha

I went home, meal prepped chicken lettuce wraps for the week and am now ready to shower and head to bed. Night, everyone.

Free Foods and Panda Backpack

August 9, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Free Treebeards at Work

One of the teams at work ordered way too much food so we got to grab some as well. It’s from one of my favourite downtown restaurants, Treebeards. I finally got to try their chicken, gumbo, and etouffee. The etouffee was the best out of the three but does it compare to their fried chicken? I’m not too sure. I had so much food, I couldn’t even finish it!

Ice Cream Party at Work Building

Few hours later our building had an ice cream social. I got strawberry and cookies and cream with some goodies on top just for picture purposes. I couldn’t finish this either. I’m a ome-spoon-of-ice-cream type of girl.

2018 | 221/365 | Panda Backpack

[2018] 221/365: Panda Backpack

Before leaving work, I saw this cute Panda backpack. We donated some money to get school supplies for kids who can’t afford it. My good deed of the day is complete.

I took a picture of this and send it to Scruffy hoping that you get me one. It’s from Target for $17! But what would I put in it? Is it frowned upon for an almost thirty year old to carry around a panda backpack like it’s their purse?

2018 Houston Restaurant Week | The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas

August 3, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

James Coney Island | Katy, Texas | Texas Chili Dog

Scruffy came over with Luna after I got off work. We decided to hit up our first Houston Restaurant Week place tonight but since our reservation was not until eight pm we decided on a light snack at James Coney Island. This is the first time that I’ve been here and I was surprisingly not as bad as I thought it be.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas

Afterwords we chilled at home for a bit before heading to The Melting Pot.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Fat Tire & Wine Flight

He started off with a flat tire while I went for a wine flight. The one flying consisted of four different wines to pair with our four courses. For the cheese, a Meiomi, Pinot Noir, California. For the salad, a Starborough, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand. For the entree, a Portillo, Malbec, Valle de Uco, Argentina. For the chocolate, a Luccio, Moscato d’ Asti, Italy.

My favourite wine was the salad wine while Scruffy enjoyed the entree one. Overall it was a great experience because I’ve never had a different one pair for every course before.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Loaded Baked Potato Cheddar

Her first entrée was the loaded baked potato cheddar cheese fondue which comes with cheddar cheese blend potatoes, garlic and wine seasoning, bacon, green goddess, and scallions. It came with bread, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers and apples.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Scruffy Cheese Pull

Look at that cheese pull!

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | The Melting Pot House & Caesar

Our second course was a type of salad. I went with the melting pot house which came with romaine iceberg mix, cheddar, eggs, tomatoes, croutons, with a white balsamic dressing. Scruffy opted for the Caesar salad. Both, we felt was just a filler but nice to have since there wasn’t much vegetable overall.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | The Classic Entree

We were starting to get full but we pushed through to the third course. We decided on the mojo broth, a Caribbean seasoned bouillon with distinctive garlic and citrus flair which was super limey in our opinion when the broccoli and mushrooms came out. We both got the classic entrée which came with certified Angus beef sirloin, shrimp, Memphis style dry rub pork, herb crusted chicken breast, and teriyaki marinated sirloin. The told us how long to cook everything and it all tasted fantastic.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Flaming Turtle Chocolate Fondue

We were stuffed to the brim and didn’t actually finish every single meal that we had on our dish. But we knew that we had to try the flaming turtle chocolate fondue which is a combination of milk chocolate, caramel and candied pecans flambeed table side. The strawberries and chocolate covered  marshmallows were my favorite.

[2018] 215/365: Date Night with My Mustache Boo

I’m glad we finally had a romantic night out and we both got to experience a new way of eating together. Scruffy said he’d come back for the cheese course whereas, I am okay never coming back. It was delicious but definitely not worth the money.

Now it’s time to snuggle up for some Shameless. Night everyone.

Treebeards | Houston, Texas

Free Chobani at Work

Whenever there’s no free breakfast at work we have yogurts and bars and poptarts to pick from. I usually go for the Chobani yogurt but that could only mean one thing …

2018 | 214/365 | Treebeards | Houston, Texas | Chicken Fried Chicken

[2018] 214/365: Delicious Comfort Food

… I’m usually starving before lunchtime and I chow down on some almonds that I have stashed at my desk. I was extremely happy that I was invited to go to lunch at Treebeards with Noah and Prisila.

I have found my favorite lunch place near work. I mean I don’t know if it’s my favorite but it sure is one of the best things that I’ve eaten here. It is southern comfort food and I ordered the chicken fried chicken, gravy on the side, with green beans and mashed potatoes. It came with a roll which had butter sandwiched in between and I even ordered a yellow cake with chocolate frosting for my coworker whose birthday is this weekend.

We ate, we had laughter, and soon it was back to work. Having that break was actually pretty nice. It made work go by a little bit faster and soon enough I was on my way home.

Tomorrow is date night with Scruffy and I cannot wait! We will be attacking one of the Houston Restaurant Week restaurants!
