2018 Houston Restaurant Week | The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas

August 3, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

James Coney Island | Katy, Texas | Texas Chili Dog

Scruffy came over with Luna after I got off work. We decided to hit up our first Houston Restaurant Week place tonight but since our reservation was not until eight pm we decided on a light snack at James Coney Island. This is the first time that I’ve been here and I was surprisingly not as bad as I thought it be.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas

Afterwords we chilled at home for a bit before heading to The Melting Pot.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Fat Tire & Wine Flight

He started off with a flat tire while I went for a wine flight. The one flying consisted of four different wines to pair with our four courses. For the cheese, a Meiomi, Pinot Noir, California. For the salad, a Starborough, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand. For the entree, a Portillo, Malbec, Valle de Uco, Argentina. For the chocolate, a Luccio, Moscato d’ Asti, Italy.

My favourite wine was the salad wine while Scruffy enjoyed the entree one. Overall it was a great experience because I’ve never had a different one pair for every course before.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Loaded Baked Potato Cheddar

Her first entrée was the loaded baked potato cheddar cheese fondue which comes with cheddar cheese blend potatoes, garlic and wine seasoning, bacon, green goddess, and scallions. It came with bread, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers and apples.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Scruffy Cheese Pull

Look at that cheese pull!

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | The Melting Pot House & Caesar

Our second course was a type of salad. I went with the melting pot house which came with romaine iceberg mix, cheddar, eggs, tomatoes, croutons, with a white balsamic dressing. Scruffy opted for the Caesar salad. Both, we felt was just a filler but nice to have since there wasn’t much vegetable overall.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | The Classic Entree

We were starting to get full but we pushed through to the third course. We decided on the mojo broth, a Caribbean seasoned bouillon with distinctive garlic and citrus flair which was super limey in our opinion when the broccoli and mushrooms came out. We both got the classic entrée which came with certified Angus beef sirloin, shrimp, Memphis style dry rub pork, herb crusted chicken breast, and teriyaki marinated sirloin. The told us how long to cook everything and it all tasted fantastic.

The Melting Pot | Houston, Texas | Flaming Turtle Chocolate Fondue

We were stuffed to the brim and didn’t actually finish every single meal that we had on our dish. But we knew that we had to try the flaming turtle chocolate fondue which is a combination of milk chocolate, caramel and candied pecans flambeed table side. The strawberries and chocolate covered  marshmallows were my favorite.

[2018] 215/365: Date Night with My Mustache Boo

I’m glad we finally had a romantic night out and we both got to experience a new way of eating together. Scruffy said he’d come back for the cheese course whereas, I am okay never coming back. It was delicious but definitely not worth the money.

Now it’s time to snuggle up for some Shameless. Night everyone.

2018 Jamie’s Birthday

June 30, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Bombay Grill Lunch

I went and picked up lunch for Scruffy and I at Bombay Grill. I haven’t had it in a long time since Scruffy got sick from them. We came to a conclusion that it was most likely their yogurt so we steer clear of that now. We ordered hot since the medium was never spicy enough and it was perfect!

2018 Jamie's Birthday Present

We went and visited Mama in the hospital. Jamie and Ashy came home and Jamie opened her birthday present a day early. I’m excited to see the tea flowers bloom.

Bistro Provence | Houston, Texas

For her birthday dinner we went to Bistro Provence. Scruffy’s boss used to take him here when he worked at the other company so I was excited we were finally getting to try it.

[2018] 181/365: Best Dang Dinner

Okay, it’s not the best dinner but it was dang delicious. It’s been a while since I’ve been to a French restaurant and eaten like this so it hit the spot. Everyone loved my duck entree and we all agreed the foie gras was on point.

Can anyone take me to France? I want to eat like the French … and maybe then I’ll lose a few pounds. haha

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Part IV

April 16, 2018 by Mellie Dee 1 Comment

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Hash House A Go Go | Plano, Texas

We were able to sleep in today, thank goodness! We were all so tired. We started out meeting Joanna, Jasmine, John, Katie, and Sarah at Hash House A Go Go for breakfast.

2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Hash House A Go Go | Plano, Texas | Food

We all ordered different things and shared so that we got a little of everything. These portions were hella big. I didn’t think anything was too special as it seems to be regular Texas like breakfast.

2018 | 106/365 | 2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | BelVita at the Allen Premium Outlets

We then went back to Brudda and SIL’s house for a bit before heading to Allen Premium Outlets. We (mostly Wilson and Mei Mei) shopped for HOURS and even skipped lunch so I was thankful to find old BelVita crackers in my purse to munch on. We called it quits leaving behind, John, Joanna, Jasmine, Katie, Wilson, Mei Mei, and Peggy. The rest of us headed back to Brudda and SIL’s for some small lunch.

Sometime later, we headed out to Rise N°1.

2018 | 106/365 | 2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Rise No.1 | Dallas, Texas | Scrabble Pieces

I thought it was kind of cute that they had this on the table when we walked in. My cousin booked the table so it had her name on it.

2018 | 106/365 | 2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Rise No.1 | Dallas, Texas | Plates

Their plates were so adorable, I wished I could have taken some home! It even has “rise” imprinted on them.

2018 | 106/365 | 2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Rise No.1 | Dallas, Texas | Bread and Knife

We got complimentary bread and butter. I loved their little cutting board knife duo. They even sell them by the front door but since I’m not a big bread eater, it would have gone to waste if I bought one. Great idea though!

2018 | 106/365 | 2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Rise No.1 | Dallas, Texas | Savory Souffles

Wilson, Mei Mei, SIL, and I shared our souffles, Escargot, Crab Cake, Crawfish, and Truffle Mushrooms. The best one was the escargot.

2018 | 106/365 | 2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Rise No.1 | Dallas, Texas | Sweet Souffles

Then we shared our desserts of Pistachio, Chocolate, Grand Marnier, and Raspberry. Our favourite was a clear winner amongst the whole table: Pistachio.

Would I come back here? Probably not. It was just carbs and air we were eating. Nothing substantial but it was nice to experience it. The service was amazing though.

2018 | 106/365 | 2018 Wilson & Mei Mei Visit | Rise No.1 | Dallas, Texas | Abalone

When we got home everyone seemed to be snacking. I guess I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t full! Brudda served an abalone each to himself and I. It was delicious and much filling than the dinner.

Tomorrow is going to be another long day so I’ll be hitting the hay now. Night, y’all!

Café Rabelais | Houston, Texas

March 7, 2018 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Café Rabelais | Houston, Texas

Scruffy and I started out with lunch at Café Rabelais. I love this part of town but can never live here with the busy traffic.

Café Rabelais | Houston, Texas | Bread & Butter

Bread & Butter | FREE

The butter was too hard and the bread was TOO toasted. I had fun eating the soft parts and dipping it into our next dish.

Café Rabelais | Houston, Texas | Escargot

Escargot | $8

Super buttery and garlicky. We loved this dish and the fact we could dip SO much bread in it. Always a bummer that places only give you six. Never enough!

Café Rabelais | Houston, Texas | Bone Marrow with Toasted Bread

Bone Marrow [with toasted bread] | $12

We wanted the foie gras but since they didn’t have that for the lunch menu we ended up getting the bone marrow which wasn’t bad at all. Definitely better than the ones we got in Lake Charles. Scruffy’s only complaint was that the toasted bread was buttered and with bone marrow’s buttery-ness, it’s too much. Other than that we both loved it.

Café Rabelais | Houston, Texas | Roasted Cauliflower

Roasted Cauliflower | $8

I wanted to get something healthier, not so buttery and since they didn’t have the Brussels sprouts, I got this. It wasn’t the best but still delicious.

2018 | 066/365 | BBQ Night

[2018] 066/365: Homemade BBQ Meal By Scruffy & I

We went and hung out with Caitlin and Peyton a bit and I even got Peyton to fall asleep. Either I’m boring or I am good. haha

Since Andrew was coming over again, Scruffy put the ribs in the smoker and I went to the store to pick up some things for the sides. Everything came out well though Scruffy will say otherwise.

Rizzo, Luna, Smokey Chewing Dentals and Bone Marrow

Caitlin was nice enough to supply the puppies with bone marrows and a dental so Rizzo got the dental while Luna and Smokey both chewed on bone marrows. So messy but the pups enjoyed it!

Right now we are all watching telly and relaxing after a great meal. I’m ready for bed.

Graduations, Birthdays, Crawfish, and More JJ

May 23, 2017 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Wild Wings Cafe | Katy, Texas | Michael and JJ

On Thursday at Wild Wing Cafe, Michael finally had a chance to meet JJ and even hold him. JJ wouldn’t have it though partly because it was nearing his bedtime. Mallory and I haven’t seen him since the high school reunion and figured it was time for a catch up.

La Madeline | Houston, Texas | Delisha, Fruit Tart

I met up with Delisha Friday at La Madeline for my belated birthday lunch. It was great getting to catch up with her and see how she’s doing. And she was nice enough to pay for my meal and even get me a fruit tart. #winning

Next Door Lounge | Houston, Texas | Red Sangria, Beer, Housemade Potato Chips with Jalapeño Feta Dip, and Housemade Angus Mini Meatballs

Red Sangria, Beer, Housemade Potato Chips with Jalapeño Feta Dip, and Housemade Angus Mini Meatballs

After Scruffy got off work, we went to Next Door Bar & Lounge for some drinks and snacks. Do not order their meatballs. They are five itty bitty things with mashed potatoes all around. Do go for the potato chips though. Their dip is out of this world! We also went to King’s Head Pub, his favourite bar place where Saleh came to join us.

2017 Ahmed and Noora Graduation Party

Then we all headed to Ahmed and Noora’s graduation party. They had such cute little cakes made. I didn’t try them but I heard they were delicious.

2017 Ahmed and Noora Graduation Meal

They even got Niko’s Niko’s catered! So much goodness on one plate!

Buffalo Bayou Brewery | Houston, Texas

Saturday morning Scruffy and I met up with Sissy and BIL for a chill drinking session at Buffalo Bayou Brewing. Two and I was done. Scruffy had like six and could keep going if we stayed any longer. Crazy boy. I’m hoping to come back for their better beers later in the year.

2017 Crawfish Boil

We then all went home and helped out for a family crawfish boil. Mmm … Dad went crazy and bought sixty pounds of crawfish for six people not counting Sissy who’s a vegetarian. Timothy came over later to help out then we played a few rounds of Camel Up and called it a night.

Hannah's 2017 Birthday Meal

Sunday afternoon was Hannah’s birthday celebration since her birthday was actually the day when Ahmed and Noora celebrated their graduation. All home cooked goodness. The chicken was the best thing ever along with the green beans.

Los Cucos | Katy, Texas | Scruffy and JJ

After work today Scruffy and I walked around the mall then headed to Los Cucos for dinner plans with Mallory and JJ. The first time Scruffy met JJ, he was asleep in his carrier but this time he was wide awake and he finally got to hold JJ. Too adorable.
