Black Walnut Cafe | Sugar Land, Texas

July 10, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I went over to Michelle’s house Friday night. I was a little afraid of driving through the countryside.

Eyes on the road. Safety first!

When I got to her place, Stephanie was already there. We went to the backyard.

Michelle's Backyard

Isn’t it beautiful?! They have a river out back and past the grass is a slope with more land and the gazebo you see on the left. Pretty neat huh?

They have a really gorgeous house. Plus, their family is really sweet.

Yesterday, June, Timothy, and I went out to Sugar Land to celebrate our cousin, Kenson’s, birthday.

We went and watched Transformers: Dark of the Moon. I wasn’t really a big fan of wanting to watch this movie because they took Megan Fox out and added that model girl, who I don’t really care to know the name of but I still wanted to see it nonetheless.

Though I don’t like the girl, I like her hair. Especially when they were standing in rubble and she was talking into the camera.

I knew I would like this movie but I was hoping my cousin wouldn’t pick it because it was two hours long. I even tried to make him not pick it by saying “I heard it sucks! Let’s watch something else.” In the end, I still wished we didn’t see it in the theater.

Shia LeBeouf is as sexy as ever. As is Josh Duhamel.

Oh, and I’m not ashamed to say I shed some tears in this movie.

Anyway, for dinner, we went to:

Black Walnut Cafe | Sugar Land, Texas | Toasted Raviolis "Espanol"

Toasted Raviolis “Español” [ravioli, mild jalapeño cheese, tomato & Pavia alfredo sauces, garlic bread] | $8.50 to share with the group.

I was told this was the best dish on the menu and everyone ordered it. Sadly, I was not a fan of the ravioli. It was crispy but on the inside, it was very dry. The garlic bread, on the other hand, was to die for. Crispy and moist enough.

Black Walnut Cafe | Sugar Land, Texas | Meatball Sandwich

For my main meal, Meatball Sandwich [house-made meatballs, mozzarella, tomato & Pavia alfredo sauces, onion baguette] | $8.50.

The meatballs were a little dry but I really liked the onion baguette. It was just the right crunch but also soft. The fries were mushy, just how I like it.

I would like to go here again and try other dishes. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t 100% terrific. Maybe I just need to order something else that people love.

I can’t believe the weekend is already over! Sad, sad! Hope you guys had a good weekend!!

Recipe | Overnight Oats In A Jar

July 8, 2011 by Mellie Dee 1 Comment

I have  never been a lover of oats, especially oatmeal. But I took the plunge and made Overnight Oats in a Jar since my knockoff Nutella was all gone.

Overnight Oats in a Jar

Overnight Oats In A Jar

Ingredients:

  • Almost empty jar of spread
  • Rolled oats
  • yogurt
  • milk
  • Honey Nut Cheerios
  • blueberries
  • strawberries
  • peanut butter

Preparation:

  1. Put rolled oats, yogurt, milk, and peanut butter (I didn’t have enough leftover spread in my jar) into the almost empty jar of spread.
  2. Put into fridge overnight.
  3. Add Honey Nut Cheerios, blueberries, and strawberries on top.
  4. Eat.

I added a little bit of chocolate syrup because I always wanted to squirt some of that on something.

Overnight Oats in a Jar with Berries

Ba-ba-ba-berries!

I think I change my mind on oats. It was so freaking delicious. I didn’t mix it well enough though since the bottom didn’t have much flavour. And this breakfast kept me so full for so many hours. Sahweet!

Rocky Asleep

Rocky is so lazy! He took up half the bed as I got busy working on things knowing I get to sleep in due to not having to work on Friday.

I just got done with my C25K: Week 8! Felt good not giving up. I decided to give the treadmill another try. Instead of listening to music, I put on Netflix and the run went way faster than expected. I guess running on the treadmill is okay as long as I have something better to do.

Now I’m running late – no pun intended. Got to get ready and head over to Michelle’s house.

Hope you guys are enjoying y’all’s Friday! 🙂

P.S. I changed up my page layout. Hopefully, it’ll be the last for a while.

Brasil | Houston, Texas

Brasil | Houston, Texas

We celebrated Michelle’s birthday back in Houston on April 2nd starting with dinner at Brasil.

Brasil | Houston, Texas | Fried Catfish Tacos

Fried Catfish Tacos [with arugula, orange, avocado, jicama salad] | $10.47

I could do without the jicama and the sauce gave it some weird flavors. Though the catfish was cooked to perfection, everything else kind of ruined it for me.

The service was pretty terrible too. We waited for almost an hour for our food. Though it’s a cute little place, I don’t think I’ll ever come back here again.

The Breakfast Klub | Houston, Texas

The Breakfast Klub | Houston, Texas

March 16th, Mum, Brudda, Dad, and I had a family day and ate at The Breakfast Klub. It’s a well-known place so it’s a must try, right?

The Breakfast Klub | Houston, Texas | Chicken and Waffles

Wings ‘N Waffles

Definitely correct! I am in love, love, love with this famous dish. No words can really describe it so I’ll try my best. Their chicken wings were very crunchy on the outside and super moist on the inside. I’m not a big fan of pancakes or waffles but the waffle, oh my goodness the waffle – crispy and soft on the inside. Just spectacular! I want to go back, order it, and gobble it all up!

Buffalo Grille | Houston, Texas

Buffalo Grille | Houston, Texas | Menu

During Spring Break, we were all back home so we met up with Sissy in her area for breakfast at Buffalo Grille on March 13th.

Buffalo Grille | Houston, Texas | Chalkboard Menu

I don’t know what it is about chalkboard menus. They make me so happy. I want to have a chalkboard wall in my house in the future.

Buffalo Grille | Houston, Texas | Omelette

Build Your Own Omelet [3 eggs, bell pepper, onions, mushrooms, spinach, and sausage]

It starts off with three eggs and a side of bread for $3.60. Add $0.65 for each veggie and $0.95 for each meat, cheese, or sauce. Overall for me adding so much extras, the outcome was bland. If you’re trying to eat healthy, this is the place for you.

Buffalo Grille | Houston, Texas | Hashbrowns

Hashbrowns

Instead of the side of bread, I upgraded it to hashbrowns for a dollar. If you haven’t noticed my love for potatoes yet you must be new here. But my goodness, save your dollar. These were paper thin and dry. A butt-load of ketchup still made it hard to go down.

Sissy praised this place so much that I thought we just had high expectations but even she agreed that it was horrible this time. Maybe I’ll be nice and give it another go one day but … ugh.
