Houston Dynamo vs Minnesota United FC

September 11, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Houston Dynamo vs Minnesota United FC

After work I headed over to Sissy and BIL’s. Timothy met up with us an hour later and we headed over to the Houston Dynamo vs Minnesota United FC game. They had $1 hotdogs and $3 beers so we got a few. I got chicken tenders and fries as well though I couldn’t eat most of the fries and gave them away. I think not eating fries or potatoes for a long time actually made me not as big of a fan of them anymore. Weird, huh?

Houston Dynamo vs Minnesota United FC | 2 Goals Before Half

We scored two goals before the halftime and we won with the same score. There was a scare that Minnesota scored one bit after the replay they realized that one of the players used their arms and disqualified their goal. The place looks empty but we had all the people on our side due to the cheap seats.

It was fun to get out and go to a sporting event. It’s been awhile since we’ve done this. I’m going we can get a NFL game and NBA game in too. That would be the dream!

Mentoring 3rd Graders

Mentoring Elementary Third Graders

Today was the first day Christopher and I went to mentor a couple of 3rd graders. They are so sweet. My girl talked so much so it was pretty easy.

We missed part of their recess since we couldn’t find the front office so by the time we got through the tour it was time for their lunch.

They ate and we each got to know our own kid. Then we played Jenga with Christopher and his kid before we decided to do a “All About Me” sheet. I didn’t know what to write on some so I made it up.

Chick-fil-A Lunch

We ended up getting Chick-fil-A and brought it back to our desks to eat while we worked. I’ve been craving it so when Christopher said he wanted that for lunch, I didn’t fight him on it.

The rest of the day was a mess of issues. I ended up staying later than I wanted and ended up working a little bit just now but tomorrow is a new day.

Mentoring the kids gave me a break away from my desk so it was nice. It made the day go by faster and seeing the kids so excited that we were there and wishing we could come everyday puts a smile on my face.

Mallory’s Fried Rice

September 9, 2019 by Mellie Dee 1 Comment

Mallory's Fried Rice

I headed over to Mallory’s after work today. She made fried rice which was delicious. She went heavy with the sesame oil but that’s one of my favourite things so it made it that much better. I wanted more but I had to control myself from eating too many carbs.

JJ was very wild today but happy. I like hearing his laugh and watching his imagination go wild. I wonder how he’ll do once Jake is born. If he’s going to be as wild too or calmer.

I haven’t seen Mallory in a couple of weeks and it’s only going to get tougher since my mentorship for the high school starts and as my workload gets shifted. I cannot wait for my fall vacation coming up. I’m leaving work behind this time so hopefully everyone can survive two work days without me. I am excited to get my hike on and take more photographs. I need more travel buddies. Sign up here!

2019 Claire’s 2nd Birthday

2019 Clarie's 2nd Birthday | BBQ and Cake

Claire’s first birthday was in Buffalo and traveling was tough for me last year so when Michelle told me she’d be in town to throw her second birthday right here in Houston, I carved out the day for them. Her uncle apparently has a bbq restaurant in Richmond so we were lucky to be able to chow down on some!

2019 Clarie's 2nd Birthday | Claire & Jack with Mellie Dee

I got to hold the two babes again. Jack is always so smiley and Claire always wants to jump to everyone’s arms like a hot potato.

Stephanie showed up as well as Nicole with her mum and Lily. We haven’t all been in a room since Claire’s baby shower if I remember correctly. It’s crazy how time flies and how much has happened in between. It was nice getting to catch up with them all. We took a picture with the four of us but it’s stuck in Michelle’s aunt’s phone so hopefully, I get a copy one day.

2019 Clarie's 2nd Birthday | Claire & Matt Playing with my Gift

When Claire was opening gifts or rather, Michelle was opening Clarie’s gifts, Claire got sidetracked and played with what I gave her instead. That makes me happy that out of ALL the toys and stuff, she picked mine. Thanks, Amazon!

2019 Clarie's 2nd Birthday | Michelle & Mellie Dee

Although Michelle and I rare see one another, nor do we have time to catch up. When we do, it’s as if nothing has changed. Those are true friendships. Two more years and Matt will be done with residency and they’ll be back in Houston. I’m planning to visit them sometime next year when it’s not snowing with twenty-degree weather. Wishing them a safe flight back to the winter tomorrow morning.

Wanna Bao | Houston, Texas

September 6, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I finally did my Big Brother Big Sister interview. It usually takes two hours but mine ended up being an two and a half hours. I’m not sure how it went but I’m hoping I made it through. I would love to watch the kid grow up and everything. But I heard a lot of people get rejected so … Oh well if that happens to me.

Wanna Bao | Houston, Texas | Pork Crispy Bottom Bao, Shrimp Xiao Long Bao, Pork Xiao Long Bao, Colorful Dumplings Adventure
Pork Crispy Bottom Bao [pork filling pan fried crispy bottom bao drizzled with scallion and sesame] | $8.50 • Shrimp Xiao Long Bao [shrimp and pork filling soup dumpling] | $9.50 • Pork Xiao Long Bao [pork filling soup dumpling] | $8.50 • Colorful Dumplings Adventure [steamed dumpling sampler, Yellow: chicken + shiitake + bamboo shoots, Pink: shrimp + pork + corn, Green: mixed vegetables wrapped by fresh house made colourful vegetable dough] | $8

Afterward, I read a book my boss gave me for a bit before picking Salim up from work. Last minute plans since I was downtown already. We went to Wanna Bao, a place I’ve been wanting to try since they opened.

Definitely way better than the one we went to in Chinatown. There was actually soup in the dumplings! We ended up order a second batch of Xiao long bao because it wasn’t enough food for us both.

Overall everything was perfect and I’d want to come back in the future. It was packed even when we left around one so you know it’s good!

Kung Fu Tea | Houston, Texas | Boba Milk Tea and Yogurt Grapefruit

We went to Kung Fu after to talk about work and girls again. I tried a yogurt drink and it ended up being freaking delicious. They use real fruit juice and mix in Yakult which is a type of yogurt drink Asians have.

I took him home soon after and headed home myself. I took an amazing nap before getting ready again.

Mellie Dee with Jack and Claire at Michelle's

Michelle and Matt were in town from Buffalo and brought the kids as well. I finally got to meet Jack who is about to be seven months old and Claire who is turning two in a couple weeks. Her party is tomorrow which I’ll be going to as well.

Dinner at Michelle's

She had her aunt and grandparents over and we had some food made by her dad. I didn’t get much as I wasn’t too hungry but it all tasted delicious.

Michelle and I got to catch up a bit which was nice. It’s harder now since she’s so far away and busy with two kids, a job, and a husband who is in residency. Two more years and they’ll be back home. I’m making plans to visit them sometime next year, when it’s not cold as eff.
