Last High School Mentoring Session at Olive Garden

December 5, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Networking Lunch with Gift Cards

I forced myself to attend a networking lunch today. We got free notebooks and pens as well as pizza. We played networking bingo and in the end, we had conversations with five different people we wanted to get to know better, wrote down their information for a future coffee date.

I met someone who does cyber defense, something I wanted to study and get a master on but had to come out and work instead. She talked about getting me to join her cyber forensics team and my heart fell in love with the position. Maybe one day, when my window opens, I’ll move to that. Who knows.

When I left, I was given two gift cards. One to use and get coffee with the five people I met and the other for winning networking bingo. Whoo hoo!

High School Mentoring | Olive Garden | Houston, Texas | John, Jessica, Mellie Dee, Mawaddah, Alejandra

I left work and met these lovely people at Olive Garden. Our last mentoring session, unofficially, but officially. Today was supposed to be the last scheduled day but since they pushed it up, we decided we needed one last hurrah. John and Jessica were the originals. Mawaddah requested me that one day her mentor didn’t show up. Alejandra had a different mentor but liked hanging out with us.

High School Mentoring | Olive Garden | Houston, Texas

I ordered a drink for myself, an appetizer, soups, salads, plates of pasta, and desserts. The kids kept telling me that our server, Darius, was flirting with me and stuff but I think he just wanted a great big tip. Though he was a great server and was nice enough to comp the desserts so who knows.

High School Mentoring | Olive Garden | Houston, Texas | Personalized Cards

I left work thinking I’d have time to run to the store to get them all gift cards but instead surprised them and told them I was paying for the whole meal. Luckily I spent time writing them goodbye notes, personalized them, and then sealed it with a wax seal. They were all so in love with the gold embossing and the wax seal that they didn’t want to open it. Darius saw and wanted one, too.

High School Mentoring | Olive Garden | Houston, Texas | Thank You Card from Jessica

Mawaddah gave me a present last time and this time I got one from Jessica. Chickfila forever. I’m just waiting for their spicy tenders/nuggets.

These are such sweet kids. Great hearts. Funny. Smart. They’ll go far as long as they put time into growing. It’s been a pleasure getting to know them as they have taught me a lot and helped me grow as a person. The only thing I hope for is that we’ll stay in touch.

2019 Liliana & Daniel Christmas Cards

I came home to this lovely surprise. I love the picture they chose … because someone awesome took it for them. 😉 I miss you both and the pups mucho! Hoping to see you guys next year … somehow!

2019 December Big Brother Big Sister Meeting

December 3, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

The Original Alamo Tamales | Houston, Texas

Today was Big Brother Big Sister first meet up and since I was going to be a bit early, I stopped by Alamo Tamales. Prisila had brought these to work when I worked at the old job and they were delicious. I think she bought them from the other location but the original should taste just as great, right? I bought a dozen and some baked goodies before heading over to the school.

P.S. The tamales are on point … as well as the salsas that go with it. Drool.

Big Brothers Big Sisters | 2019 December Meeting | Pizza and Cookies

We were served Dominos pizza and cookies while we chatted with our mentees. I was told she was shy but she opened up pretty easily and conversation flowed pretty nicely.

Big Brothers Big Sisters | 2019 December Meeting | Raffle Winners

We played games and such as well as made commitments to one another. Two hours flew by pretty fast and soon enough they did a raffle drawing and we won. Starbucks gift card for me and a speaker for her.

Big Brothers Big Sisters | 2019 December Meeting | Free YMCA Membership

Upon leaving we recived free YMCA memberships. I’m excited to sign up and go. Since I get every other Friday off, this would be great! It’ll be tough to go since the closest one is over thirty minutes from work but I’ll make it happen, somehow.

Anker's Soundcore Liberty Total-Wireless Earphones

I came home to one of my Cyber Monday deals. I don’t really need it but it was a good deal and won’t hurt to have an upgrade. I cannot wait to set it up and start using it! Perfect timing too since they’re sweat resistant. It’ll go well with my workouts.

Rizzo’s 6th Anniversary

December 1, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Mellie Dee & Rizzo - 6 Year Anniversary

It’s December. Another year almost to an end. Another year celebrating Rizzo coming home. Six years total. It feels like yesterday I took him home. I haven’t realized how much he’s been through with me. The ups and the downs.

Yummy Crawfish & Seafood Leftovers

We celebrated by cuddles, binging on telly, and eating leftovers from one of my favourite places, Yummy Crawfish & Seafood, from last night. I continued my crocheting project and had a completely relaxing Sunday.

Four more weekends until the new year. I need to start putting together my new year resolutions.

2019 SIL’s Birthday

Rizzo Sleeping with IPad

I wasn’t able to sleep all night so I stayed up playing games and watching telly while Rizzo slept like a log next to me. Moments like these make my heart happy.

Drywall with Brudda

We started putting up the rest of the drywall. I give props to all the renovators, housebuilders, and construction workers because it’s such hard work.

Ninja Ramen | Plano, Texas | Door Dash

We ordered from Ninja Ramen through Door Dash. Surprisingly good and Emmy even ate a lot! I would order from here again, especially because their level of spicy is on point. After the quick lunch, we were back at it renovating the attic. Then I took a shower, shopped online, took a quick cat nap, and played with Emmy while parents, Brudda and SIL were off buying a new car.

Gogiya | Plano, Texas

Dinner was at Gogiya to celebrate SIL’s birthday a day early. You could choose all you can eat for Korean BBQ or Hot Pot. We first wanted Korean BBQ until we realized it’d be an extra $14 per person if we wanted the good meats so we switched over to hot pot.

Gogiya | Plano, Texas | Salad Bar

They had a salad bar you can eat from. Mostly vegetables, seafood, and hot sauces. So freaking good. They could do better with their choice of sauces though.

Gogiya | Plano, Texas | Personal Hot Pot

Choosing hot pot was a good idea. Everyone had their own personal hot pot to cook from. I got full faster because I had my own pot where no one stole what I put in! I wish we could do something like this at home but it’d be super expensive.

June and I are currently watching a movie in the media room. Brudda, SIL, and I were going to go to Richard’s annual Friendsgiving but we were all super tired from a busy day, not to mention the drive back I have to make.

I cannot believe the holiday is already over. Luckily I have all my Fridays off for the rest of the year which means only a four day work week. Yippee!

2019 | Thanksgiving in Dallas

November 28, 2019 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

McDonald's with Emmy and SIL

We got into Dallas last night. Mostly to drop off Emmy but to also spend Thanksgiving together. Mum and June went and got us breakfast at McDonald’s – first time Mum’s ever drove in Dallas! I shared above with Emmy and SIL.

Attic Remodel with Brudda and Dad

Then Brudda put me to work in the attic with Dad. He’s transforming his two attics into storage rooms so we’ve been putting in drywall. I worked for a good while before they were able to handle it themselves but there is still a lot of work to do for tomorrow.

Cris and John Vietnamese Street Food | Dallas, Texas

They kept working but the rest of us went to Cris and John Vietnamese Street Food for lunch. They had such cute decor and their Horchata was on point. It’s a fusion between Vietnamese and Mexican.

Cris and John Vietnamese Street Food | Dallas, Texas | Food

We ordered almost everything off the menu. I won’t say everything was great but I’d come back for the pho.

Patti La Belle Sweet Potato Pie

We even stopped by Wal-Mart because I really craved the sweet potato pie from last year at Richard’s Thanksgiving. They sell the mini version as well and I found it so freaking adorable. I was told to put it back down though and stick with the big one.

We all tried to shop online and take naps as well but Emmy kept me up. Soon enough, Brudda and I went to Wal-Mart so that I could get my 10-inch gold Deadpool Funko. He bought the other four variations for me this morning as early birthday presents for the next few birthdays.

Hunan Bistro | Plano, Texas | Le, Aaron, Mellie Dee, SIL

Then it was Thanksgiving at Hunan Bistro. No usual Thanksgiving feast here though we did get some wine. We ordered so much that I am so stuffed. My favourite was the fried intestines. I know you’re probably thinking it’s gross, but it’s all in your head.

Boba Ave 8090 | Plano, Texas | Jenny & Mellie Dee

The kids went next door to Boba Ave 8090 while everyone else went back to their respective homes. We talked about weddings and random things before heading home.

June and I finished our movies and I went and bought more things as Christmas presents. I hope everyone likes theirs!
