Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill | San Antonio, Texas

Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill | San Antonio, Texas

On the weekend of the 17th of April, Brudda and Tammy came down along with Sissy. Too bad Sissy left before brunch at Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill.

Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill | San Antonio, Texas | Tejas Trio

Tejas Trio [fresh chips, hand-hacked guacamole, chile con queso with chorizo and salsa picante] | $9.75

An appetizer to curb our appetite until our main dishes came out. The guacamole was my favorite but they gave so little of it. I very much wished we got the type where they make it at your table because I would have gotten so much more. Mmm …

Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill | San Antonio, Texas | Cornbread

Cornbread | free

You get a choice of freshly baked muffins or cornbread. I’ve never been a fan of cornbread but they both did and I am happy we did. Surprisingly the best cornbread I’ve ever had to the point where I would definitely come back just for this.

Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill | San Antonio, Texas | Huevos Rancheros

Huevos Rancheros [eggs cooked over easy, with Jack cheese, salsa Picante and sliced avocado, served with pureed black beans, flour tortillas and home-fried potatoes] | $8.95

The meal itself was very delicious. The only thing I was unhappy about was how they put tortilla chips at the bottom of my dish. It was super soggy and chewy. The potatoes were really delicious though.

It’s a pretty simple menu but I’ll definitely come back to try all the others.

C25K: Week 5

June 14, 2011 by Mellie Dee 3 Comments

I’m proud to say that I’ve started week five yesterday. I’ve checked around and it seemed like there are a different number of weeks depending on which C25K you chose. Mine so happens to be nine weeks total. The other one I found had eight but the runs seem to be longer. No thanks.

I never thought I’d be able to run the way I have been running. Usually, I give up because I cannot do it or because I’m simply just lazy. Making it to week four meant something so I decided to buy myself some rings to congratulate myself when Sissy, Mum, June, and I went to Charming Charlie’s last Wednesday.

Last night I almost gave up running the last leg last because my calves and shins hurt so badly. I really need to find running shoes that are right for my feet. I am proud to say I didn’t give up and made it through.

Tomorrow’s run is going to be a little tougher but I know I can do it. I’m already coming up with a list of stuff I would want to buy when I get to the end of the program. Got to reward myself with hard work, right?

Agora | Houston, Texas

Agora | Houston, Texas

After dinner, we continued on to Agora for coffees or wine.

Agora | Houston, Texas | White Mocha Frappacino

White Mocha Frappuccino | $4.50

Much better than expected. Not bitter and just the right amount of sweetener.

I would come back here again until we were chilling with our drinks and chatting and we saw cockroaches everywhere. Also, we were kicked out because the owners literally told us they needed the tables for the other customers. We were customers too but … okay. Nice way of doing business.

That night we went to various bars that included Poison Girl – not enough seats, La Carafe – very dark and creepy since it does advertise themselves as a haunted bar, mostly wine, Bronx Bar – came here for shots, too crowded, and Pearl Bar – a lot of Mexican people, don’t have anything against them but they seem to be very, very drunk and wild, one lady had her shoes off and was dancing on glass …. okay lady.

Brasil | Houston, Texas

Brasil | Houston, Texas

We celebrated Michelle’s birthday back in Houston on April 2nd starting with dinner at Brasil.

Brasil | Houston, Texas | Fried Catfish Tacos

Fried Catfish Tacos [with arugula, orange, avocado, jicama salad] | $10.47

I could do without the jicama and the sauce gave it some weird flavors. Though the catfish was cooked to perfection, everything else kind of ruined it for me.

The service was pretty terrible too. We waited for almost an hour for our food. Though it’s a cute little place, I don’t think I’ll ever come back here again.

Smashburger | San Antonio, Texas

Smashburger | San Antonio, Texas

Trisha and I wanted a burger before a FSA meeting on the 29th of March and ended up at Smashburger. I’ve seen them around but never ventured in so I was super excited to see what it’s all about.

Smashburger | San Antonio, Texas | Mushroom Swiss

Mushroom Swiss [garlic sauteed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, and mayo on an egg bun] | $5.99

The burger was so juicy and you had mushrooms in every single bite. They pile those babies on high. Other restaurants, please take notes.

Smashburger | San Antonio, Texas | Smashfries

Smashfries [tender and crispy fries tossed with rosemary, olive oil, and garlic] | $2.99

They don’t have meal deals so if you want fries, you have to order them separately. Although they’re too thin for my liking, it was crispy and flavourful so I can’t dock all their points off.

Smashburger | San Antonio, Texas | Fried Pickles

Fried Pickles [fried dill pickles served with buttermilk ranch dressing] | $2.99

I would come back for the fried pickles. The breading had a unique flavour and tasted amazing with the dip.

Other than it being pricey, this place is good. I’ll only come back when I’m craving fried pickles or burgers though which is very rare.
