No Slacking

July 4, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Happy end of Fourth of July!!

We grilled up a lot of foods. I ended up eating a hamburger and two hot dogs. Plus a lot of little trees, onions, squash, zucchini, etc. Yum!!

Afterward, Sissy, Brother, Brett, and I played Scattergories. I am horrible at this game and was in last place the first time around but we had a rematch and I became second to last. At least I moved up!

But just because it was July Fourth and we had a guest over, it doesn’t mean that I would skip running. I laced up my shoes and did C25K: Week 8.

The run felt long especially since I was starting to feel the pain in the tummy I had felt all weekend. I pushed through and though my legs weren’t tired while I was running, it felt like jelly afterward. Plus, the weather didn’t help much until the end when I was about to do my cool down. Mother Nature gave me a gust of wind.

Five more days of running total. I got this! Night y’all!

Saltgrass Steakhouse | Houston, Texas

July 3, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Tonight Brother and Sissy took Timothy out for his belated graduation dinner. I tagged along.

We went to:

Saltgrass Steakhouse
8943 Katy Freeway
Houston TX
(713) 461-6111
saltgrass.com

Saltgrass Steakhouse | Houston, Texas | Shiner Bock Soda Bread

Sissy was already waiting at the restaurant when me, Brother, and Timothy got there. This was sitting on the table and our first question was, “Is this real?!”

And real it was. It’s their very own Shiner Bock Beer Bread [with butter] | free. Yum. It was very melt-in-your-mouth kind of deal and very wheaty tasting. It was gone pretty quickly.

Sissy went on ordering the Artichoke and Spinach dip for us to share … but the manager came out and told us it was out. He did ask if we wanted something else instead, giving us other options customers love.

Saltgrass Steakhouse | Houston, Texas | French Fried Onions

We ended up getting the French Fried Onions [thinly sliced & piled high served with our border sauce] | $6.49. It wasn’t a favorite for me. The onions were too thinly sliced (guess that’s why it’s french?) and it was too much batter than onions. We couldn’t even taste the onions.

Saltgrass Steakhouse | Houston, Texas | Chuck Wagon Cheese Fries

We also ordered the Chuck Wagon Cheese Fries [fried potatoes, topped with melted jack & cheddar cheese, bacon, sour cream, & chives] | $6.99. When we ordered this, we asked for bacon on the side. But when it came to us, bacon was everywhere! So we told the manager and he fixed it right up for us! This was a win! We all loved this. And ate it all up!

Because of kitchen error and server error, we ended up not having to pay for our French Fried Onions or Chuck Wagon Cheese Fries. WIN WIN WIN!

Saltgrass Steakhouse | Houston, Texas | Chopped Sirloin Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Potato Soup

For my main entree I got the Chopped Sirloin Steak [Certified Angus Beef ground steak topped with: grilled onions, cheddar cheese & diced tomatoes OR grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms & cognac pepper sauce] | $14.99. Plus you get either soup or salad with your entree. I got Potato soup.

The potato soup was a big soupy, thick deliciousness. The chopped sirloin was not up to par with others that I’ve had before. It wasn’t disgusting but it wasn’t great. I only had 1/4 and packed the rest home. The mashed potatoes were a fluffy cloud of goodness but I packed the rest home as well since it should go pretty well with the steak.

Those free appetizers really filled me up. And on top of that, Sissy ordered a Shiner Bock before we arrived and she needed help with it.

We had the worst server in the earth of servers. He wasn’t attentive and rarely checked in on us and kept getting things incorrect. Though he tried to smile through you could tell he was unhappy working there. Sir, please quit your job. You would be so much happier.

But that didn’t make us angry with our meal. We had fun together reminiscing and talking about future things. Then we went back to our house and played Partini. Never heard of it?! It’s like charades but better.

Sissy, Timothy, and I never played before. We chose teams and in the end, brother and I won.

So far it’s been a good 4 day weekend. Not anything to really complain about except for the whole getting sick thing.

Tomorrow Brett is coming in and we’re going to bbq for Fourth of July. Sahweet!!

What are your plans for Fourth of July day?!

Time to relax. Night y’all!!

Everyone’s Getting Married

July 3, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I haven’t been feeling well but I still went on my run Friday resulting into a tummy ache. I was so sore come Saturday morning that I had to roll off of bed.

Today, thought my stomach isn’t fully okay, I went out with Mum, Brudda, and June for Pho, Sports Authority, and Kohl’s.

During Pho, I received a text from Alyssa. Greg proposed last night and she wanted to let me know before it was Facebook official. I’m so happy for her! I remember Skyping with her in the beginning of the year and telling her that this might just be the one. Ahh … It feels like just yesterday we were in high school talking about how boys were annoying. Congrats to the lovely couple!

I’m not sure if she wanted to let people know yet. But since no one personally knows I have this blog, I felt it was safe. Sigh … seems like everyone’s getting married … and I’m getting left in the dust but I don’t care because …

I got these new sunglasses free due to Kohl’s cash backs and coupons. Sahweet.

Cannot believe it’s already Sunday! Hope you’re having a good weekend!

A Whole Lotta Words

July 1, 2011 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

I was the only one in the family that had to work today but work got a little easier when Mum called to let me know we were going to Tokyo One for dinner with June and Dad. Since it wasn’t a thrilling experience last time and the price went up from $25 to $27.99 per person, I debated on going.

Tokyo One | Houston, Texas | View

But since I rarely get to see Dad I sucked it up and went. Outside our window was this wonderful view. There were even turtles but I didn’t have the right angle to take a picture of them.

Tokyo One | Houston, Texas | Buffet

I actually didn’t eat the crab but took a picture anyway because it was scary huge.

The green tea ice cream was not up to par as last times. Such a disappointment. The other ice cream is red bean ice cream. It tasted more like raspberries.

I really liked our waiter this time around. He came and picked up our plates pretty much every five minutes. We’re fast eaters.

I really don’t think me coming here is such a good deal since I don’t love it like they do but I guess whatever I have to do to spend time with Dad! Plus I didn’t have to pay!!

Tokyo One | Houston, Texas | Bill

Look at that bill!

Late last week, I made plans with Nicole to meet up at Baker Street Pub then found out Brudda was coming into town as well. Since I get a whole week with him, I decided to not cancel on Nicole. We always had a friend with us because we knew some of the same people despite graduating with 1000+ back in 2007 so this is the first time it was one-on-one.

We talked about a lot of personal things. And I feel even closer to her. It feels good to trust someone with things you don’t tell people.

While we were there trying to have a conversation over the loud music, a guy came up to us and asked us if he could buy us a beer. We declined.  I always get awkward when people come up to me and do that, plus we both had to drive home after.

Our waitress kept asking if we needed anything else and we kept saying no. She finally told us the same guy had told her he will pick up the tab to whatever else we ordered. Still creeps me out.

All in all, after a long and tiring week of work, it was good to unwind with Nicole. I’ve missed her so much and it was definitely great to see her again. We’re planning for something next week but it depends on how busy our schedules are.

Good night blog world! 🙂

Disco Pink Nails

I painted my ugly nails Friday night in pretty disco pink. But today, I picked it all off by the end of a two-hour-long lunch meeting.

Crawfish

June had the week off from work and surprised us with a crawfish boil.

I was too stuffed to run so I waited for the longest two hours of my life. Even though I was still full I ran the C25K: Week 7 – Run 1. I blame the crawfish for my lagging. Mmm … I can still taste the goodness in my mouth.

Ten minutes into the run I got really tired. My legs started to cramp so I ran a little bit faster … which surprisingly felt better. Weird. I thought the run would be easier. Think being lazy all weekend messed me up. Gotta pick it up!

Time for telly before bed! Hope you guys had a good Monday!!
