Koreana | San Antonio, Texas

December 20, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

Who likes Korean food?

Me.

Who likes to answer their own questions?

Me.

Tammy came to San Antonio for her birthday week and we went out for dinner and dessert.

These are the side dishes that are given. You can ask for more if needed … and of course we did. They were that delicious!

2011-11-30 20.13.05

Gal Bi [Korean style BBQ short ribs marinated in special Korean sauce] | $15.95

If you think this comes with the bone in on every single piece of meat … you are incorrect. We were a little sad by this.

But it was still delicious.

2011-11-30 20.13.18

Yuk Gae Jang [sliced Brisket vegetable soup w/hot spicy seasoning, beef, and egg] | $9.95

So yummy. So many vegetables. Words cannot describe.

2011-11-30 20.14.04

This is our table filled with food. We did not finish it at all which was fine by us. I actually had four meals coming out of this.

So worth the price!

Towards the end, they give you a tiny shot like cup with a little bit of cinnamon like tea. It’s cold but so good.

We toasted, and drank it down. Yum!

Do come here if you’re ever in San Antonio and want Korean food. Else for pricing-wise, stick to Houston.

We then made our way to Cheesecake Factory for some yummy cheesecake.

Feeling Like Crap

But I still went out and RAN!

Okay I lied. More like got off my butt, ran and walked.

Better than nothing right?

I did 1.15 mi. with a super horrible time.

Things I learned/realized while running:

  • Never throw away everything you did in the summer training to run a 5k; it is always harder to get back on track.
  • My fracture is still there … whoops. Oh well.
  • If I motivate myself with some things (that I will not share), I can make it through.
  • I have less than 5 months to whip myself into shape.
  • Over all, I’m doing this for myself, but if it wasn’t for the promise I made on my blog that I will strap on my running shoes today, I never would have done so.
  • Also, I was thinking of Rachael all this time and didn’t want to disappoint her. Ever since college started again, I blogged way less than I use to but I know she’s always there reading (hopefully) and encouraging me. Thanks chica!

I did a lot of Christmas shopping and helped my mum find presents for people as well.

I stumbled on this baby at TJ Maxx. Yes it’s Jillian Michaels and I loathe her but there are exercise cards, circuit training cards and training technique cards inside.

I realized these makes me workout more than videos do. I am not sure why.

Maybe because I don’t have to listen to her voice …

Anyway, I am thinking of doing them on my off days from running.

Let’s see how that goes.

Let’s see how long it’ll take till I fall of the bandwagon again.

Hopefully, never.

Holocaust Museum

December 19, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I went to the Holocaust Museum on November 30th. I learned a lot.

A survivor of the Holocaust came and talked to us. I feel real blessed to have heard her story, thanks to her son. Her son had cancer and just before he passed away, he begged his mum to write and tell her story so that their future grandchildren will remember it.

Sorry .. blurry picture from my camera! That’s me, Holocaust survivor (Rose?), and Kim.

2011-11-30 11.14.362011-11-30 11.15.27

It was a small museum but VERY educational. That’s what they wore when they were imprisoned in the camps.

2011-11-30 11.17.20

We were told we could go out on the balcony to check out two sculputres. My friend Andy here thought this was the door to go.

He was wrong. Locked to the maxx. It’s just a funny picture/memory. Smile with tongue out

I’m not too sure what the one on the left is a sculpture of but the one on the right is a lady behind the barbed wire and she sees a butterfly on the outside. The butterfly is in color signifying freedom. It’s a really good piece.

I’m thankful for having a chance to come here and learning so much. Open-mouthed smile

2011-11-30 11.48.42

Then we went to Habanero’s. That’s a lot of burritos … but it wasn’t all of it. We had the Leadership Challenge class from college as well as high school. Mmm so yummy! There was also queso and chips on the table.

All free.

Score! Smile

The Ranch at Las Colinas | Las Colinas, Texas

December 19, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

For brother and Tammy’s birthday party, we went to:

2011-11-26 19.49.48

The Ranch at Las Colinas
857 W. John Carpenter Freeway
Las Colinas, TX 75039
(972) 506-7262
www.theranchlc.com

2011-11-26 19.57.54

Look at their menu! Crazy long. There was a back page as well but that was filled with drinks and wines and etc.

2011-11-26 20.01.41

My brother asked me if I could take pictures for him for the night while he mingled with his friends. Uhh … okay! Duh … so fun!

2011-11-26 21.23.07

10 oz. PNB Flat Iron [Lucky-Layla sweet cream butter] | $22.00

My side was sweet potato fries.

I wasn’t a big fan of the flat iron steak. It was a little dry on the inside and it didn’t have much any flavor.

The fries were delicious though.

2011-11-26 21.23.21

Jenny got the ribs with cream corn. I wish I had too. It was fall-off-the-bone type of ribs. So yummy. The reason I didn’t get it was because I had to take pictures and didn’t want meaty bbq sauced fingers. Next time though.

A good place to try. A good date place. Or simply a place to hang out with some great people and eat great food.

In-n-Out | Dallas, Texas

December 18, 2011 by Mellie Dee Leave a Comment

I know it’s been forever that I’ve posted therefore these past food places and what I’ve done, etc. will be coming up these next few days.

Forgive me.

As some of you know, I went to Dallas for part of my Thanksgiving break. So naturally we went to some different places for some yums!

I got the Double-Double as you can see in the wrapper above. [two 100% pure beef patties, hand-leafed lettuce, tomato, spread, two slices of American cheese, with or without onions, stacked high on a freshly baked bun]

It was delicious. But I had high expectations for this burger and it did not give me the satisfaction I was hoping for. It was good but not good enough in my book.

2011-11-26 13.15.51

This is the shot of my brother’s order … Cheeseburger [100% pure beef patty, lettuce, tomato, spread, one slice of American cheese, with or without onions, on a freshly baked bun]

I put this shot in to show the French Fries [fresh cut potatoes prepared in 100% vegetable oil]

Was not delicious at all. Kind of disgusting if you ask me. It was too hard – over fried perhaps?

Compare this with Carl’s Jr. … definitely does not compare. Carl’s Jr. for the win. I felt I wasted my 6 bucks on this ish.
