Alyssa’s House: A Night of Laughter

August 2, 2012 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

What’s weird … waking up early then sitting on the computer working on things and noticing that it’s only 9:48am when it felt like 12pm or something. When I was in Hong Kong, time flew by fast. I feel like I’m wasting away sitting here doing nothing when I should be doing something. I cannot wait to start my job. At least I’ll have a purpose then.

But then I took a nap and all time slipped away from me and it was time to get ready for Alyssa’s.

She was having Pappasito’s Cantina deliver to her house. I was excited. I haven’t had Mexican food since I’ve been back and Alyssa’s family is so amazing that I know her extended would be as well. And they were. It was great meeting some of her college friends as well.

Pappasito’s went all out. They brought out a grill and everything. It was great! The food was delicious.

I’m a great blogger and took only ONE picture. Better than none, right?

Alyssa with one of her doggies, Stuart Little.
And some of her wedding gifts behind her.

I had a great time with her family and we laughed A LOT. Though our friendship got distant, I’m glad we were still able to be close enough to where I can hang out with her family and friends. I hope that doesn’t change because they are all amazing.

Tomorrow we’re getting our nails done and having lunch. I can’t wait. Sounds fun!

Proud Owner of a Foam Roller

August 1, 2012 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

Want to hear a funny story? No? Well tooooooo bad.

An old friend of mine who I haven’t really talked to since three years ago (?) just caught up a little on Facebook. Oh the joys of social media. And she told me she has a blog and all that other jazz. Surprise! ME TOO! You didn’t know that huh? Anyway, I told her I had one too but that I wasn’t ready to share. And she understood but will be willing to read it once I was comfortable. Thanks, Dhvani. I’ll keep that in mind! Smile

Then I did what any normal person would do … I Google’d myself with keywords that connect to me. And found out I have a Blogspot. Which I started in 2009. And where I was actually funny. I guess it was easier to let my sarcasm show up in my writing more back then.

***

Anyway, Sonja and I had plans to meet up at Rudy’s for lunch. I love it because it’s only a good 10 minutes from my house. As I was driving, I got stuck in traffic. Not on the freeway or anything. On a street. Why? Because everyone was waiting at the drive through of Chic-Fil-A. Ridiculous. Get out of the damn car.

Sonja and I got to catch up for a good 2 1/2 hours. Everything from boys to school to work to family to random crap. We only see each other two times a year. But only get to catch up once a year. I’m lucky to have friendships like this.

***

After we said our goodbyes I walked around Wal-Mart. I got use to walking around after eating in Hong Kong so I’m trying to keep up with that. I don’t know how that’ll work once I start my job though.

But … I finally bought a foam roller!

It’s from Gold’s Gym the 3-in-1 Massage Roll.

  • 18” High Density Massage Roll Layer
  • 18” Low Density Massage Roll Layer
  • 18” Rolling Massage Stick
  • Instructional DVD

Hot guy not included … boo.

It’s wrapped in cellophane and as nasty as it sounds, I tried it out on my back. If it didn’t work, I was going to return it. Don’t judge me. I don’t care if it was the right form or not or if it was the right layer but my back feels better. So I’m keeping it! I’m excited to roll every part of my body so all the pain goes away and better my muscles! Hopefully this will also mean, less injuries for me. Fingers crossed!

Happy Things

July 31, 2012 by Mellie Dee 4 Comments

I’m not going to lie. It’s been messy in my room. Remember when I said I was going to redo my room? I got halfway done, then moved too much stuff in my room before taking apart some things and then I just got lazy and then Hong Kong happened. Whoops. At least I got the bookshelf and desk down … My telly console was delivered to me before I got back from Hong Kong so I’m hoping I can put that together soon so I can get this show on the road. It would be nice to have a clean room.

After signing my contract, sissy and I hung out. We went grocery shopping then made lunch and I got to play with Bruno. Tomato Basil Soup and Grilled Cheese!

Tummy still wasn’t feeling well but it’s slowly getting better.

Then I went to Alyssa’s where I finally met Greg. I’ve always known of him in high school but we all ran in too many different circles. From what I can see, he’s such a nice guy. Even got to see her mum, dad, and sister. Haven’t seen them in five years! Geebus! And Lauren F. was there. We didn’t run in the same circles but because of Alyssa we met towards the end of high school. It was great knowing she’s going to be at the wedding because it’s someone I know. We helped her with decoration ideas and I. Cannot. Wait. for the day. It’s going to be beautiful. Alyssa is very arts and crafts. No pictures though. Can’t let anything slip till the day of!

Simple thinking. I’m blessed to have some people in my life. Even if we don’t communicate 24/7 like others do. It means a lot knowing that they’re there.

This or That?

July 31, 2012 by Mellie Dee 4 Comments

This post was written at an earlier time because I had food poisoning all day yesterday. So naturally, I had lots of time. Yeah it was a lot of joy. My last week before my big girl job starts and I’m thrown with this. Wonderful!

Hopefully I’m all better because I’ll be signing my contract later today! I’m a bit excited and a bit scared. I am not ready to be at a big girl’s job. I wonder if I can still wear my jeans. I love my jeans. Where do people buy their big girl’s clothes? I can never find anything appropriate.

And I get to see Alyssa afterwards! I’m going to her house to help her with some wedding stuff before the special day this weekend! I’m excited. I haven’t seen her in a year. Yep. It’s so hard getting together because we’re so busy but I’m happy that I get to see her before she’s a Mrs.

Oh, and my new planner came in last week. You obviously cannot tell by my facial expression but I’m beyond stoked. It’s a weekly planner where one side is the week and the other side is for notes and such. Finally, one that I’ve always dreamed of.

So I saw this on Alex’s blog and I thought it would be pretty fun.

A. Run/workout in the heat and humidity or freezing temps and snow? I like running in the cold. Always have and always will. I like the way it feels sweating in the cold. It feels nice. And your body works harder to keep warm. Win – Win.

B. Have washboard abs or flat abs? Flat abs. Washboard abs always freaked me out. Even on guys. It seems so surreal. And I like the natural look. It’s no wonder my close friends think I like scrawny guys …

C. Dr. Oz or The Doctors? I watch neither. Not gonna lie … I wouldn’t of even known they were shows if it wasn’t for Alex’s answer. haha

D. Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper? Like I’ve stated in the past, I’m not a big fan of Jillian even though her ways do work … so I guess I pick the latter. Bob Harper it is. And he’s kind of cute for his age (46) … scruff does something for me.

E. Frozen Yogurt or Ice Cream? Neither. But if I had to pick, frozen yogurt of course.

F. To train: Upper body or Lower body? Lower body is so much more easier for me. Sadly, I’ve been getting injured in both ankles. But I really need to focus more on my upper body. Note to self: find upper body workouts!

G. Protein powder or food with protein? Food with protein. I’ve never drank protein powder and though I think it’s the easy way, I like to eat my food more than drink it because you get a more sense of fulfillment in your tummy. I might try it in the future, but not anytime soon.

H. Lunges or squats? Squats are easier for me and my knees. And I feel like they work better than lunges but nonetheless I try to incorporate some lunges in there.

I. Sweet or salty? I guess I’d have to go with salty since I’m not a big fan of sweets.

J. Workout attire: cute or comfy? Comfy of course. I do not put on skimpy workout outfits and makeup to workout in hopes that someone will notice me. I will never understand those girls. Plus I workout at home and run around the neighborhood so … I’m pretty sure it’s little kids and old men. I wish I looked this good while working out. Hair in place. Makeup perfect. Pshh … fake.

(photo via)

K. Body Pump or Heavy lifting? Heavy lifting though I would love to try body pump one day. I’ve heard wonderful things about it.

L. Yoga or Pilates? I learned Pilates in 7th grade because my coach just had a kid and wanted to loose weight. It’s very helpful and I loved it … I should start again. It wasn’t stressful on my joints as other workouts I do. Yoga, I would love to try. I heard it’s good for your back and whatnot. Definitely something I should try. My back is all kinds of messed up!

M. Nike or Adidas? Nike. Adidas always hurt my running feet.

N. Running on the treadmill or outdoors? I love running outdoors. I love smelling the wonderful air and seeing people and cars passing by. The only time I run on the treadmill is if it’s raining hard outside. If it’s drizzling, I’ll still go out. Oh, and if it’s super hot outside.

(photo via)

O. Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s? I have yet to been to Trader Joe’s. It’s on my to-do list. I’m waiting until they finish building them here in Texas. So I guess Whole Foods will have to do till then when I’m able to compare.

P. Summer or Winter Olympics? I love them both. But if I have to pick one, summer since I can play most of the sports. I would love to know how to do gymnastics. So jealous!

Q. Exercise classes or Exercise videos? I would love, love, loveeeee to do an exercise class but because of my insecurity I’ve always been hesitant so I do exercise videos which does not hold my attention most of the times. At least when I’m in the comfort of my own home, I can look like shit and a total goofball.

R. Steamed veggies or roasted veggies? I love them both. And even if I have to pick one, I would still pick both. I love veggies and no matter how you cook them (as long as it’s not fattening) I would love it!

Happy Tuesday, y’all!
