Empathy

December 18, 2012 by Mellie Dee 2 Comments

I took a day off blogging/commenting yesterday just like all the others to give a moment of silence for those lost from Sandy Hook Elementary. I won’t sit here and tell you I know how it feels. I can only empathize with them. Check out the group: 5k Run for the Children of Sandy Hook on Facebook.

Two days after the incident, there was a San Antonio Theater Shooting. It just seems everywhere you turn, there’s another one. And even though you’re probably not in danger, you can’t help but wonder about the other shootings and think of the worst that could happen wherever you are.

I kid you not, just now I heard a gunshot like noise outside my house. I’m certain it was fireworks … but how can you tell nowadays. My heart jumped out my body so I can’t even begin to phantom how victims of the shootings felt.

All these horrible things happening in the world makes me so thankful for everything and everyone that I have. Let those that mean so much to you know you care before it’s too late.

More Celebrations

We had BossMan’s birthday celebration #2 Friday night. Drinks at Woodrow’s then went to Wild West and this other place. I got to know my coworkers better and that’s what I love about going out with them. The fears of not fitting in kind of subsided for those 7-8 hours we were together. Let’s just say the night ended with things I never thought possible. Maybe when I go back to the office tomorrow it’ll be different … or it’ll be just the same. All I know is for those 7-8 hours, I felt like I fitted.

P.S. I don’t know who that girl is in that picture. She just looks like she was having TOO much fun. Love her make up though. Smile with tongue out

Kenny and Cindy retired these past few weeks so we had dinner today to celebrate. I cannot wait to retire. Kind of sad though since I just started working. I love my job but the idea of staying home ALL the time and doing nothing … actually that sounds boring. I’d rather work part time if possible or find some kind of volunteer thing to do.

I hope you all had a great weekend. I know I did.

One more week til Christmas! We can do it!

Celebration Station

December 13, 2012 by Mellie Dee 4 Comments

Those in Houston, do you remember that place? I remember going there for fun and games whenever there was something to celebrate.

Anyway, thank you for the feedback from my previous post. I tried all the advice I got and it seems it might be working. Or all the worries are in my head. I guess time will tell.  But after posting the post, and going to work the last couple days, things seemed to have changed.Everything takes time and if I don’t feel like I fit in now, maybe I just have to try try again and not over think things. I tend to do so.

I met a British man today. He’s going to be the liaison between me and my new contractor company. He is funny and has a really sweet accent. I am jealous of his accent. And he is kind of cute. 😉 I always think contractor companies send over older people but he seems to be in his middle to late 20s if I have to guess. But uh … can I holla atchu boy? haha JK!

On Wednesday my company invited the people on my floor for a Christmas Luncheon at the Downtown Aquarium. If I remember correctly, I don’t think I’ve ever been there so I was very excited … until we got there and realized we weren’t going to see the whole aquarium. Womp Womp.

The picture you see is from the restaurant part of the aquarium. It was really big and we actually saw a lot of fishies and sting rays and whatnot. Just wish I could of seen the sharks and stuff too.

Here was our food lineup:

  • Salad
  • Cranberry Bread – AMAZING. And I never say that about bread.
  • Beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies – medium rare, no flowing jucies. One of my coworkers sent it back because it wasn’t “dead” enough. teehee And I love what they did with the mashed potatoes. They always tasted better when it’s not just plopped down on the plate.
  • Chocolate Mousse (Disgusting. Sorry.), Key Lime Pie (LOVE LOVE LOVE especially the shell), Crème Brulee (wasn’t bad but could be a little thicker for better taste)

I made pound cake! Since we decided to celebrate BossMan’s birthday early, I promised him pound cake and I delivered. I didn’t get to taste any so maybe next time. But it sure smelled delicious!

We went out to lunch today for BossMan’s birthday. That prime rib was DELICIOIUS. Cooked to perfection. I know what I’m getting next time I’m here .. whenever that will be. We even had a Carrot Cake from Ooh La La Bakery. It was $60 something bucks! But all worth it since it weighed like 10 pounds.

Tomorrow night it’s BossMan’s Birthday Celebration Part 2 … cannot wait. Eep.

Have a great Friday tomorrow! 🙂

I Don’t Fit In – Emotional-ish Post

December 11, 2012 by Mellie Dee 15 Comments

I love my job. My BossMan is awesome. Let me tell you why.

I feel grown up because I get to go to my first ever business trip in Janurary! It’s only at New Orleans for two days but what the hay! I get to not be in the office for two whole days! … and be in other people’s office and learn.

And if you didn’t know, I’m a contractor so we’re switching contractor companies so we can get better benefits. Win! Maybe a raise? 😉 But I highly doubt it since I only started a few months ago.

But okay here goes … I never really talk about stuff like this on my blog because I don’t like showing that I’m insecure. But we’re only human right? If you can help a sister out, mucho thanks.

I finally opened up to Mum about my unhappiness at my job. I mean, I love it obviously with how I praised about stuff up above but sometimes I feel very out of place. Like I don’t fit in. I bring my lunch to work every day because I cannot afford to buy every meal. They pay us really, really well but I have things that are more important then that. I sit at my desk and work and talk to no one unless they come to me. I don’t like butting into people’s business so if they have powwows I will only join if I was invited. I guess this makes me not a people person or that I don’t like to talk which is weird because I love to talk to people. Well, more like listen. When my friends or family ask how I like my job, my answer is almost always, “It’s good”, because how can I say, “Meh, it could be better.” I don’t like being asked things so the simpler the answer the better. I am hoping after this trip, I can feel like I fit in more. Maybe this is all in my head but who knows …

If you’ve gone through this before, give me some pointers. Please and thank you.

Watch this. It will melt your heart. Her dad passed away before her wedding so the important men in her life wanted to do something special for her for her wedding day.

If you didn’t get at least teary eyed, you’re not human. We can’t be friends anymore.

Anyway, help me with my dilemma if you can.

Long Overdue Reunion

December 10, 2012 by Mellie Dee 6 Comments

It’s been a Happy Monday for whatever reason I don’t know.

All I know is I got off work. Ran my run. SOOO GOOD! My knees have been a little alekwjre but not like how it use to be so that’s good.

Showered and got ready and went out to Bellaire.

I had a dinner plans with my friends Graham and Oscar. They’re in town from San Antonio for work training people.

Graham has been there for me since I started college, driving me everywhere, and making sure I felt included but we all grow up and get busy. I haven’t seen him in over 2 years! So it was great catching up with him.

As with Oscar, he’s my little. But I haven’t seen him for a few months now. Especially now that I’m in Houston indefinitely. It’s nice to know his studies are going well and he’ll be working and making that dough soon enough! Two years!

It was good seeing them. I realized they’re pretty much the first ones from San Antonio that I’ve ever hung out with in Houston. Reason? I’m really bad at keeping in touch. But it felt amazing doing getting to see them.

Next time I’ll see them is when I go to San Antonio for Julia and Noel’s wedding end of January! Eep!

I hope you all had a great Monday too!
